Battle of Jakku
« on: September 26, 2018, 02:05:33 PM »
Being a weak-willed wargaming collector type person it came as no great surprise to find my wallet had conspired with Ebay to empty itself in the direction of Star Wars Legions (SWL).

A two starter box bargain found me sporting Imperials and a friend having the rebels. Of course getting the figures is just the top of the slippery slope. Next up comes scenery and so I began looking at all the wonderful scenery that people have put together for SWL and it quickly became apparent that there was loads of great stuff available to purchase.

So I went with option B: Start from scratch a large and long winded project for making my own scenery.

Cos I haven't got nearly enough unfinished things on the go already.  ;)

So what to make? I was liking the desert setting but feeling a bit meh about Mos Eisley as so many people had already done so many nice versions.

However I was quite partial to the crashed ship debris on Jakku featured in The Forces Awakens.

So with this in mind I set about designing and do the CAD work to send to my friends over at Blotz who had been helping me with my VSF project http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=104743.0

Over the last few months the range of kits that make up the crashed space has slowly grown and is now complete!

A couple of barricade type things made from crashed hull pieces.

I've tried to make the pieces in such a way that figures can interact with them.

Evac deck with an un-launched pod that is available as a separate kit.

There is also a pod that launched successfully.......I wonder if there are any plans hidden in there?  ;D

Big ol' engine nozzles!

A radar dome......yes.... the angles were interesting.

And a bridge superstructure!

There are more kits but I'm sure you get what I was trying to do with them  ;)

Now to finish off my stormtroopers and get these painted!

Wow those are looking great! I was just thinking those are remaining debris are of a Star Destroyer, so one could use them with 15mm  and they would look just fine. As soon as the wallet feels better I will look into this!

So I finally got a chance to progress this scenery. I still need to do a nose section and finish the crashed escape pod but the rest are done now.

I've also managed to get some actual figures painted for the game as well! A minor miracle!

Must admit I expected a space battle report based on the 3rd Aftermath book, but this scenery looks great. Loved the Jakku scenes in The Force Awakens!

Just re-read this thread, I had not realised you designed them. Excellent.

Any tips on how you painted them?

Thanks Folks!

Any tips on how you painted them?

They are painted pretty simply really. I don't get on with airbrushes so I tend to use layered dry brushing to build up mottled colour layers. I use make up brushes as they are so fine that after a bit of practice you can get some nice subtle effects.

I put down base colours heavily all over the model and then progressively lighten the colours used. I also use masking tape as this works pretty well with dry brushing to get the finish seen on the hull pieces.

I've got the last piece of the set to paint still so I'll try and do a step by step posting.
