This round seems to be very heavy on fishmen and robots for some reason.

Not so easy to find matched Big Brother.

Now, this is truly not fair! My favorite Canadian painter squares off against my favorite U.S. painter! :o Who do I vote for? For the first time in all my years of participation, is it time to ask for the button that shall not be named...? lol
Joe, as always, amazing artistry on your shields and patterns. You are my inspiration. Matt, perfect use of darkness in your photograph -- and dramatic staging. The big one looks awesomely repulsive!
Good luck to both of you, my friends! You deserve your places at the top...!

The little girl with the lantern is a wonderfully unsettling touch Matt. That's a great ramshackle building too, and the silvery shine of the deep ones is lovely.
Joe - once again, your freehand art on shields and garments shows all your trademark skill and creativity. Lovely job.
Well done both 8)

Fantastic freehand Neldoreth, I should have entered a Midgard Serpent to even my chances ;)

Awesome use of Lillie Poots and her lantern to frame the Deep One scene, I love how they all seem to be looking her way in horror/surprise and their body language is all "Oh sh*t we just got found..."
The freehand on the Viking shields and weapons is spectacular - is that a 28+mm "Thor" and 15mm Vikings, or 28mm Vikings and a massive Thor?
-
Thanks guys for the positive feedback, greatly appreciated. The figures are 28mm plastic Gripping Beast Dark Age Warriors, some with plastic Viking heads.
The Thor figure is a larger figure that I had shipped from Eastern Europe. I really wanted to go with the more historically-realistic version of the god, and abandon the Marvel-esque winged helmet shenanigans. As a consequence, I had to do some modifications of my own to make it work, but I'm happy with it... I just wish there was a way for me to show off Thor's shield... I toyed with putting a mirror back there, but opted instead to go with a proper setting; mirror was not included in the list of acceptable backdrops either!
Fantastic freehand Neldoreth, I should have entered a Midgard Serpent to even my chances ;)
Excellent creepy ambiance Dr., very disturbing and it really has a narrative... Now that I think about it, the deep ones are basically a Midgard serpent narrative with a Lovecraftian spin! When the great one returns, the end of the human world has come! Replace the gods with crafty investigators and it's essentially the same story :)
Thanks

I (almost) always vote for fishmen. :)
Have you been shopping at Rusty Rail?

Have you been shopping at Rusty Rail?
I certainly did, upon a recommendation from you a couple years ago ;)
