Title: 28mm Post Apoc Vehicles?
Post by: richarDISNEY on June 06, 2017, 03:39:50 PM
I am getting back into Post Apoc gaming.

I'm thinking of Mad Max style of vehicles.

I am wondering if anyone knows of any companies who make 28mm Post Apoc vehicles?

I am looking for bikes, buggies, cars, big rigs, ect.

Any suggestions on where to look?

Thanks!

Hit your local Dollar Store or equivalent, or disocunt toy store.  Buy cheap cars and trucks and go to town converting them.

My suggestions are mainly vehicles that can be made suitable for the post apocalypse.

Empress do Technicals:
With various weapons (and without).

They also do: the BMD series (ex-HLBS) which would give you a Fury Road vehicle; HMMWVs, MRAPs.

They also do a new "large" scale jeep with various options:

As mentioned above, there are a number of cheap die cast vehicles in shops.
The above was bought (in the UK) from QD (also available from Wilko) for £2.99 in 2011.

Take a standing figure with you so you can compare the sizes, the above was quoted at 1/60.

For those in the UK, Wilko (Wilkinsons) have some new die cast models on offer.

I have not compared them with any figures, but by eye they are close to 28mm scale.

Spotted these today in the new Cars 3 toys in the local Big W, they're nice and banged up looking with chains and dents and trophies already on them.

Think I'll take along a mini for scale tomorrow to look again. With regular exhausts instead of those crazy exhaust horns, an armoured grill to cover the mouth on the front, maybe a ram over the bumper and of course ab properly rusty paintjob could be a great vehicle.

Was also the Rambulance

They could do with putting a better photograph of the basic bus, the roof does not fit due to warping.

Edited as noted below the roof is not warped, it is just a shadow.

That's not warping, that's a shadow. It looks like the bus is one piece, including the roof, but the light source is behind the model. Either way, they could do with a better photo.

Nobody seems to have mentioned Airfix - their 1/48 Coyote, Land Rovers and quad bikes for Afghanistan would all be suitable as a basis for modification. They seem to be OOP at the moment but are still available on eBay.

Good point (other 1/48 scale vehicles are available).
Empress does a 28mm crew pack for the Airfix kits: Brit16.

Related to the above, I have a 1/56 resin Jackal and crew I bought at a show, but cannot remember the company.

When I get home I will blutack the wheels on and photograph it, and someone can tell us who made it ^__^.

I keep thinking it is S and S, but can only find the 1/72 one on their site.

Though designed for "rescaling" Airfix kits, I thought they would make a good crew for the Empress WW2 Jeep.

Someone on another thread asked about the size of the Trucks being released by Crooked Dice (available prerelease at Salute).

I have not assembled mine yet, but here is a size comparison (I have added the transmission and axles and started on assembling the cab - the roof is not attached).

As you can see, it is a good scale match to the Cadian Imperial Guard.

A better photograph after I have assembled it.

Definitely more Heroic Scale than suitable for say Empress' 28mm. Though sci-fi enough to work in a say a Mass Effect style setting without looking as out of place perhaps.

However, my vehicle weathering skills suck and I paniced at the thought of messing up the model trying to do the logo, so it has languished for nearly five years now. I still look at it regularly, so hopefully one day...

That is a nice job on that conversion.

Company B do Mystery Machine decals, though for either the Armorcast or Crooked Dice vans.

Maybe I will leave my model out and work on it after some time.

i swear by 1:43 diecasts especially when dealing with "heroic" figures.  Diassembling them makes it easy to paint them quickly, they are easy to convert, and inexpensive compared to most other options.
