A little background before the pictures. I collected and played WHFB for a good few years off and on, starting way back in the early 90's and then stumbling to a halt just before the End Times series. Nowadays I tend to play skirmish games like Fantastic Saga or Dragon Rampant, but mostly I just paint for the fun of it. Having said that, I keep motivated if there's an aim in mind and currently it's all about Fantastic Saga so most of my projects are based around this system. This means typically units of eight or twelve.
I have a couple of forces that I am part way through, but my main focus at the moment is some Undead. I started playing Undead way back in my early WHFB days when they were still called Undead - my first army had skeletons and zombies shuffling alongside mummies and carrion, led by a Liche. Then I progressed on to Vampire Counts and have a fairly big collection all mounted on multi bases. This new round based force is more of the same, but with a few little twists. My first unit is an example of this - some ghouls led by a ghoul master/butcher. In Fantastic Saga this is two points as the butcher counts as a monster - my long term aim is to have 12 or more points to choose from for each force.
Enough blah......

These are The Hobbit goblins with a few bits (handbags) trimmed off, plus an old metal Ogre Kingdoms butcher.

Wow! Those are astonishingly good!
Those goblins must rank as some of the best figures ever produced for everything except what they're meant to be. But these are best iteration of them that I've seen. Brilliant!
-
Fantastic miniatures! Your undead figures are very inspirational!
-
Brilliantly gruesome Paul. :-*

Awesome, love the skintones, love the gory-effect, great work all around ( as usual ) :D.
-
excellent stuff. I have to admit I dont know fantastic Saga but I think I am likeminded to you. used to be a fantasy player too but now I'm more interested in finishing myself a nice Lion Rampant force.
Keep up the good work here!
-
Do I even have to say that I like them? lol
More fantastic stuff for Fantastic Saga!
btw, Ive got two new factions in the making since last year, and the test phase for them is almost over.
Just depends on how many games I can fit in over the next few weeks.
So keep an eye out!
:D

Incredible!
That old necromancer figure is good at the best of times but that whole unit is just...wow.

Absolutely fantastic. That ogre slaughterpriest is amazing.
-
Very, VERY nice! I love your use of washes!
-
Best use of the army of the dead I have seen. Great colours.
-
You did a very nice job on those Army of the Dead chaps. You really got an eye for color and subtle nuance.
-
My my, you even make the GW Zombies look amazing.
And are those LotR Army of the Dead models? Well crap, now I need me some of those!
-
Really fantastic stuff! Reminds me I've meant to check out Fantastic Saga for a long time.
-
They look superb.
-
Excellent colouring! :-*
-
I'm a fan and collector of the GW LOTR figures, so I really like what you did with those Goblins and the Army of the Dead figures. Really impressive!
-
Thanks guys. The army of the dead figures are so nice with lots of detail and different textures, it seems a shame to just paint them a ghostly blue!
-
It's all amazing. I was looking at the post and as I considered my reply it started with the goblins, then the zombies, and the army of the dead. The start tones of the skins and muted cloth are fantastic. The bright flashes of blood leap from the photos. Great work!
-
I can only echo what the others have said. Very impressive!
-
Nord, how did you do the skin tone on the original post with the goblins and the ogre?

I didn't write down any colours, but I can give you a description of my technique. Prime white. Glaze skin with a pale colour, then shade areas with slightly darker version. Maybe add in some blue/green/grey for deeper shadow areas. Stipple with red/purple for blotchy effect. Use blood effect plus black/purple for gorey bits.

Ah, the Old Undead - what nostalgia!
Fantastic models in your fantastic saga - well done!
