The First Frothers’ Charity Sculpting Contest

This year, instead of doing a single Charity figure I thought we’d try something a little bit different…. A Sculpting Contest with the winning entries being cast and available, as usual, in return for a modest donation to Cancer Research or the MS Society.
The theme for the contest is Mr Kim Newman’s wonderfully inventive Anno Dracula – a cast of thousands to draw your inspiration from. If you haven’t already read the books or comic, why not? They’re great! A handy link or two are at the bottom…
There will be two categories:
Heroes and Heroines
Villains and Villainesses
The Closing date for entries is midnight (UK) 31st of October

Photographs of entries (or digital renders) should be submitted, with your details, to charitymini@gmail.com – please make sure that have no names or obvious identifiable marks so that the judging can be fair.
There will be 3 winners from each category plus one spot for an amateur (someone who has not sold more than 5 sculpts) in each.
Prizes – Don’t be daft, it’s for charity! But the winners will receive some master castings of their sculpts and both the packs.
The Judges:
Firstly, Kim Newman himself who surely needs no introduction or waffle from me
Roy Duffy, master brushsmith, master tailor and part-time Jabba the Hutt cosplayer
Pete Brown, mouldmaker extraordinaire and man you’d least like to share a hotel with (sorry, Uncle Pete!)
The Tentaclemeister himself, Martin Whitmore; brilliant artist and kilt & Chainsaw aficionado
And finally, Ian Brumby, model maker supreme and winner of the world’s silliest haircut more years than anyone can remember.
The Rules
The contest is open to all (except, obviously, the Judges) – both pros and amateurs are welcome. However, because the aim of the contest is to cast and produce miniatures that will be sold in aid of the charities, contestants must be 18 or over. If the contestant is under 18, he or she must be able to produce written parental consent upon demand.
Sculpts can either be physical in any material as long as it is castable (no plasticine or earwax please!) or digital.
Multiple entries are welcome.
Original sculpts only – no conversions of existing miniatures and must be all your own work.
Risks - we cannot take responsibility for winning submissions lost in the mail or with the unlikely event of damage to the green during moulding, the risk lies with the sculptor.
Secrecy clause: In order to avoid any possible predisposition amongst judges, complete secrecy is expected until after the contest. This means that we will pass on all entries to the judges anonymously. To help us with this, you are asked not to post pictures of your entries anywhere else and to refrain from divulging your chosen subject on any public or private forums.
Size:  roughly 30mm for a human adult.
Rights and Greens:  Rights to the sculpts will return to the winning sculptors one year after the actual Charity drive has started (approximately Dec 2018) and Greens will be returned after moulding (although Mr Newman has asked for first refusal on any he likes!)

Any questions please ask!
Huge thanks to Kim Newman and Titan Books for all their help

How does one purchase the figures if one is not a Frother?

The minis will be available to all in return for a donation to the charities - basically make a donation via a Just Giving page, email me your details, I put them in the post to you.

Sounds good - I think I got the Judge Minty miniature from you a while ago (he painted up a treat by the way) so I can vouch for this.

Please do keep us all updated.
