Hi,
I finally finished some of my 15mm TUSK project and thought I'd share some photos. I utilised the dip method as I wanted to make the process quick and relatively easy.
Khurasan Miniatures Cavemen and Ladies.

A trap, which needs the finishing touches added, and associated markers shamelessly copied from Hetairoi Wargames. I have another trap in the making...

I have selection of Mick Yarrow Miniatures to work my way through and I am waiting for a parcel from Acheson to arrive with more goodies.
-
Lovely stuff. As someone else who has a 15mm TUSK project done, I can appreciate the appeal. Nice fire and burnt markers.
-
Splendid little collection Barry 8)
-
Great stuff! Is it all prehistoric, or do time travelling Victorian gentlemen arrive?
-
Thanks Gentlemen.
Smokeyrone - I do plan to paint up a set of miniatures for a VSF setting :D
-
Very cool...
-
Wow! Those are lovely.
If Khurisan had a UK distributor, I would have gone down the same route I think.

I've ordered from him quite a few times with no issue other than customs and the PO taking a large cut for minimal service :)
-
'Minimal Service'. That's a very polite way of putting it Andrew.
-
Great little project :)
cheers

Great little project :)
It is indeed.
:-*

Like the look, am wondering if you have any photos of the mammoths against 20 or 25mm figures.
Sizewize they would seem ok, but would like idea on compatability before sending money and gift HM customs and the Post office for their interference.
thanks for the ideas and inspiration.

I will try and get a photo taken over the weekend with a 25mm/28mm miniature for you.

I recently watched 'Quest for Fire' and thought the Wildmen of the Savannah by Khurasan Miniatures would fit the bill quite nicely. I have include a Savage Ape by Tabletop Miniatures into the group.

He won't need his spear for long I don't think.
Thanks for the photo, I think they will suit nicely.

I recently finished a 15mm caveman army for HotT and thought I' share some photos. All of the miniatures, except one, are from Khurasan Miniatures range.
The complete army.

'CAPTAIN CAVEMAAAN!!!'
I plan to add a few elements periodically along with the opposing force of associated critters, including some 'Apemen' based on those in the early 1980's movie 'Quest for Fire'. I am undecided about the stronghold. I have a few ideas in mind - the cave featured in the beginning of the aforementioned movie, the island in the swamp where the refugees gather after the attack on the cave or make a selection of hide huts.
-
Lovely - and the bases are suitably lush.
-
Thanks von Lucky!
I based the vegetation loosely on the console/computer game Farcry Primal.
-
Love the use of tusks in the corner of the base - nice touch.
-
I thought I'd share some photos of the enemy to the Cavemen and Women...
The Beasties!

Apemen... :? - Warband
(https://storage.googleapis.com/files-us.myalbum.io/photo/360/AK/Tk/AKTkQ8Nvvbrr.jpg)
These miniatures are from Khurasan Miniatures. I decided to add some elements after watching 'Quest For Fire'.
I seldom play games these days and have very little experience with HotT. Like my Arthurian HotT armies, I just enjoyed painting the army up. I am not too fussed by the make up of the army or the element type or how the army plays and may well change some of the element types over time or suggestions are made.
Finally, even though it's not related to HotT, I thought I'd share it here - a dice holder.
This is designed to hold the D8 used for determining the direction the fire moves when playing Tusk.

All of it looks outstanding! Is the Captain Caveman something you sculpted?
Thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks.
The Captain Caveman is a miniature I picked up on this forum :)

Maybe PM Mason to see if any are still available.

Very well done project.
Like the painting and basing.
the burned Fire markers are great !

What a wonderful collection, with both figures and basing looking superb.
Very lush.
:-* :-*
Looks like you had a lot of fun putting this lot together.
:)

There are still a few left but not too many.
Give me a shout if you want one.
:)
-
Mason, pm sent. :D
-
Terrific stuff, always really pleases me to see someone actually painting and using our miniatures. :)
Next up for this range is THE APES (all caps because it's supposed to be screamed when uttered). THE APES are sasquatch or Gigantopithecus like chaps who are the much bigger, less evolved, and all around scarier cousins of the "wildmen of the savannah" whom we've had out for several years. Seven poses plus an alpha male to lead them who's even bigger than the rest.
The complex battle tactic of THE APES is to barrel straight down on the opponent at breakneck speed and tear them limb from limb.
-
I'll look forward to seeing those, KM. I love me some apes. Sorry, I mean APES!!!
-
They have emerged from the jungle!
http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/15mmfantasy.html
-
Excellent, the detail and sculpting of the models is 1st class and you have painted them up very nicely indeed.
Wish I had seen these before going 28mm, a much more wallet friendly way to go.
Cheers
-
Awesome little collection painted and scatchbuilt with a lot of love. Very nice!
-
Those new APES! are incredible. I thought the pack by Blue Moon couldn't be improved upon, but think you've just done it. Very well done, sir!
-
Just thought I'd share a few additions to my project.
Some mammoth calves -
(https://myalbum.com/photo/ms8TJCfBX6HK/360.jpg)
The small calf is a rubber toy sold as a good luck miniature. The slightly larger toy is by a company called 'Bullyland'.
A wise woman and younger members of the tribe -
(https://myalbum.com/photo/kKiE91K2kXAB/360.jpg)
The Old woman is from Khurasan Miniatures as is the young girl who originally started out as a mammoth rider. The young boys are from Xyston and Irregular Miniatures with the later having a head swap.
Young adult male and wolf companion -
(https://myalbum.com/photo/UGgiqcEmwFQU/360.jpg)
I am eagerly awaiting the release of the movie 'Alpha'.
The wolf is from Splintered Light Miniatures with it's head repositioned and the young adult is from Khurasan with a head swap.
Finally, a new measurement stick -

Cheers,
Barry

Nice clean painting.
-
lovely project. :-* :-*
Watching with great interest. :)
-
I like the measuring stick!
-
I finally finished a HotT Stronghold for the Cavemen, women and children or cave for a very cranky bear!
The cave back is open so I decided to add some very poorly drawn (painted), art by yours truly…
(https://myalbum.com/photo/spljeKQGvtWO/360.jpg)
I also found some more mammoths that seem to fit in okay with my 15mm miniatures. I have cut down one to represent a beast caught in the trap. I plan on repainting the trap.
Finally, something a little different for me – a 25/28mm Cro Magnon miniature from Lucid Eye and Dire Wolf from Pathfinder Battles range by WizKids. I rarely paint miniatures this size, but I have been contemplating a small TUSK project using larger miniatures and decided to dip my toe into the water to see if it is something I really want to follow through on. Both utilised the dip method and still need to be based.
Thanks for taking the time to have a look!
-
Love the bushes on your cave Barry. What make are they? (Or homemade?)
-
Thanks Captain. The bushes are from my own little enterprise - Leadbear's Tufts.
-
Well those are mighty impressive tufts! :)
-
I can highly recommend Barry's products!
-
Excellent stuff, the cave is impressive but the cave paintings are a very nice touch.
The 28 mm figures have worked well, the wolf is suitably ferocious and the dip subtle. The Cro magnons are wonderful figures but I do wonder at the hair style, using a flint razor or scraper. Ouch
-
I agree with the above - both 15mm and 28mm are well done and Barry's products are great.
-
Finally, a new measurement stick -
(https://storage.googleapis.com/files-as.myalbum.io/photo/360/uy/H0/uyH04E6wP3Ko.jpg)
Cheers,
Barry
oh bloody hell !
i see we have got the same idea at the same time. ;) .....but not for the same rules lol lol lol lol
mine are less sophisticated 8)
great collection
cheers
Eric
-
Thanks Gentlemen.
Eric - I look forward to seeing them. I have other sets of rules and I will make some sticks for that set as well as I like doing that kind of thing.
I am planning of adding a couple of groups of Neanderthals. I did consider using the Copplestone Castings Pict Warriors as Neanderthal opposition, however they are 'chunkier' and a little larger than my Khurasan cavemen and just don't look right in my eyes. Instead, I think I will use a couple of packs of Khurasan's 15mm Gasgan warriors with mixed hand weapons, adding some fur to the skirt and the odd pelt or skin cloak over the shoulders of the miniatures.
My Prehistoric project has really taken on a life of it's own.
I have had the Acheson Neanderthals along with their Pre-Historic Mammals sitting in storage. Originally I was going to paint these fellows up as the opposition to the cavemen, but like the Copplestone Pict warriors, they outsized the Khurasan miniatures so I have decided to paint these up in an early winter type setting. A winter themed project of any kind has been on my 'to do' list for quite some years and I think a winter setting of TUSK would be a reasonably, quick, tidy method of achieving this.
To add to that, I have been building a collection for an Australian theme for the setting. I have some large Kangaroos, Bullockornis (Demon Duck of Doom), and Megalania from MY Miniatures, hunters from QRF and a converted Diprotodon (giant looking Wombat), Thylacines (Tasmanian Tigers), Thylacoleo Carnifex (marsupial lion) and Genyornis (large waterfowl – Emu with stumpy legs).
The idea is to have the winter and Australian sets in their own boxes with the appropriate terrain and mat. I really like the idea of PAPPIS Box Challenge (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=51661.0) thread and due to the reasonable small number of miniatures and amount of terrain needed, this should work reasonably well.
Cheers,
Barry

I have finished the miniatures for my 15mm Winter Tusk project and thought I'd share some photos.

A 'VERY Cranky Bear' -
(https://myalbum.com/photo/fPub4l5D3S7Z/360.jpg)
Overall, I am reasonable happy with the result. The miniatures took under a week to complete. I have more terrain to finish off including some tree stands a frozen pond and eventually, a cliff face and a couple of rocky outcrops.
Thanks for looking.
-
Very nice. :-* :-*
May i ask who is the manufacturer of the neanderthals please?
-
Excellent job !
May be too snowy for me for the terrain elements :D ;)

Thanks.
My original intention was to have the terrain as an early winter setting with more ground showing, but I got a bit carried away with the snow... :D

Nice little collection
-
Barry S, thank you for the info. :)

i know that !
It's so fun to get new dimension to basing figuirnes that you can go to far. sometime.... lol

Oh the Neanderthals are brilliant and were yet unknown to me. Together with the Khurasan sapiens sapiens group this gives pretty exciting perspectives for wargaming!
-
Barry S, thank you for the info. :)
You're welcome. I meant to identify them when I posted the photos.

Acheson's Mammoths and other critters are really nice and the main reason for this particular project. I had bought them with the intention of using them as an opposition tribe against my Khurasan Cavemen, but they looked a little too large alongside them, well to me at least. I have long wanted to create something based around winter, so I thought this would be a good opportunity.
-
And about the coppelstone barbarians.
Are they mixable with ?
-
And about the coppelstone barbarians.

I don't know. I don't own any Copplestone Barbarians.
I did consider using the Copplestone Picts as Neanderthal opposition for this project, however they are 'chunkier' in style and a little larger than my Khurasan cavemen and looked out of place to my eyes. I used the Pict miniatures as Beastmen of Opar for my Tarzan Project and quite like the result.

Lovely work Barry, someone has to hold a Little Wars Adelaide, so that we can see and play the game with you.

Who would have thought, just a few years ago, that there would be so many decent prehistoric offerings in 15mm?

I just thought I'd share some photos of my 15mm Australian Primeval project. I still need to finish off some of the terrain.

I have some gum and mallee trees which still need finishing off along with some scrub and a billabong and guest.

Loving the Xanthorrhoea, that's a really nice touch!

I may have said it before but, very nice Barry! 😃

Very nice!
