I've started a new project. Getting underway painting the miniatures tomorrow. Updates as and when.

Looks interesting! I'm curious about the rules and how they'll reflect the combat as seen in the films.
-
For a long time I was looking for a rule set based on different kung-fu/martial arts styles, so fingers crossed it will be what I am after :)
-
Paul, great to see a new project from you. And a good KungFu-Game is missing, I think. A fistful of KungFu was not really so interesting.
Maybe you can use some of them: http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?category=modern-%26%0D%0Apost%252dapoc~modern-martial-artists

The first of my painted miniatures.

Love it! The Atomico! KS was awesome! I've only finished 2 minis, but I'm working on it. Will be following eagerly...
And again, I beg to differ w/ fellow commentors re: FFOKF. Fun game, with a great system. I don't think any game can accurately differentiate between martial arts styles except in the most niggling special rules sort of way...
-
I agree with you about differentiating in styles. I've ordered a copy of the Bruce Lee board game to see how they cope with it. I think they give each character a few 'signature' moves to add to the standard combat procedure which I was thinking of doing in some form.
I plan to have small, 3-4 miniatures, factions so it may be more crunchy than what I usually design, maybe not, time will tell. Currently I'm looking at adapting my Shadowman/Juju Man mechanics as they allow for extremely fast and easy combat resolution whilst retaining meaningful choices for the players.
However, they're good for ploughing through minions, less satisfying for fighting other characters. Well, satisfying for the active player but the defending player will just get battered, not a lot of fun unless I include a healing/recovery mechanic where horribly beaten characters regain their feet to fight again during their turn which isn't a bad idea and quite thematic.
As I say, it's in the design phase at the moment.

Looks wonderful.

Some more miniatures.

I love your building!! The details are great and make this really work :-*
Lon
-
Nice work, as always! Did you use a laser cutter and make the detail pieces for that building yourself?
-
The doors and window grills are from Fenris Games.
I may use granny grating to make windows in the future so I can cut out a more oriental pattern.
-
Another material to try, at least for fancier buildings, would be those cheap thin, lasercut wooden fans that some charity shops wind up selling.
-
Cool project! And the building's fantastic!

I've never seen anything like that. I'll investigate, thanks.

As I´m also working on a Wuxia Skirmish game I´ll be watching this. :D
-
I believe that they're called sandalwood fans, and that they may be pierced with a variety of patterns, for example:

Oooh those fans are a good idea :-*

Fantastic! Did you see that Atomico has a new KS on the way? Modern Hong Kong action themed this time!

Yes, just waiting for the announcement that it's live.

Atomico has launched their new Kickstarter and added the original Kung Fu miniatures as optional extras.

Love the scenery! Your buildings are legendary and thy match the walls perfectly.

Thanks. Not bad considering I hadn't seen the walls before I built it :D
Just a lucky coincidence.

Great painting as usual, great scenery. But the figures have gigantic hands. That looks strange. Hope to see your rules, never found a good ruleset for KungFu.

Looks great Paul 8)

The hands seem alright to me. The sculpting isn't the best but the miniatures are fun to paint and the subject isn't oversubscribed so I'm happy to have any miniatures that fit the setting so I'm probably just ignoring the shortcomings.
I've scrapped the idea of a skirmish game for the moment and I'm exploring RPG options.

I always missed the fastness of the Kung-Fu-movies in a game. After reading FistfulofLead with cards I hade some ideas with cards and fate-dices, but nothing concrete to work with in the moment. I love the hasslefree- and northstar-Kung-Fu-figures. Great stuff I think. Hope you will come back to the skirmish rules later...

They're still bubbling away in the back of my mind and occasionally I make a few more notes. Speed of play was my main criteria too.
