Okay not Victorian per se, really Edwardian time period, nevertheless these stories certainly were/are a VSF inspiration to me, and the book covers always captured the flavour of the stories.
Thought others may like these either as a memory trigger or seeing them for the first time.
Two pages here, three more on my blog.

I keep wanting to find good, detailed versions of the cover art to make some vinyl wall posters to put up for several things.

Okay not Victorian per se, really Edwardian time period, ...
Okay, someone set me straight, please!
While written much later(beginning at 1912 wasn't THAT much later), I thought John Carter was, as in the movie, a Confederate veteran, making him very Victorian. We have no problem with later work based on Victorian mores, history, and imagined tech, right?
Better, I'd like to hear corrections of Burroughs faux pas, where they occurred.

Hi Beast
My bad, while written in the 20th century the stories do start in the 19th century. The first book starts in 1886, when Carter has 'died' but actually returned to Barsoom. We find that he has been trapped on Earth for 10 years.
Also in the story he has spent 9-10 years on Barsoom (assuming Earth years not Barsoom years but it is not specified)
So his Barsoom adventures start in 1866, very Victorian time period, he first travels to Barsoom, returns to Earth in 1876, and finally gets back to Barsoom in 1886.
I was kind of foolishly thinking of the time written not the setting.

PLEASE don't think I was complaining, just getting my thoughts straight. :)

I still live :)
Do not worry, I did not take it that way.
Truly I was not thinking clearly when I wrote Edwardian, after all it matters not when it was crafted, but when it occurs!
You did make me go to my book shelf and pull down the first book to reread parts of the book to get my facts straight. lol

Would be fun to get John Carter into a mix up with Flashman. Their time lines do overlap.

What polar opposites, neither could comprehend the other... :)
But John Carter would be the perfect straight man to Flashman.

I'm more trying to imagine Flashman and Barsoom! :o

A very nice collection. Some of them would deserve to be framed and put on walls!
Flashman in Barsoom? Brilliant idea. Now where did I put my minis... lol

:D
Looking at the timeline in the Flashman books, I see a couple of good times for him to be transported via astral projection to Barsoom:
1. 1850 to 1854
The first gap comes after the end of part one of Flashman and the Redskins, which had Flashman in Apache country. It's before John Carter gets to Barsoom, but would still make for an interesting story.
2. 1868 to 1875
The second one would put him on Barsoom about the time John Carter got there. Although Flashman would be a bit older at that point, his body on Barsoom might ignore the effects of earth aging.

"Flashman On Mars" one can only dream...maybe that is the game for me to use Sharp Practice 2 for? (Not that I have it...yet)
