After realising that I'd not post anything of my own lately, because I'm too busy(which I am)but simply a severe bought of CBA.
So here's a work bench thread to keep me motivated and to show the odd bit as I plod a long.
-
Nice. Any details of what they are?
-
Any chances of unarmed nurses?
-
Excellent! I'd like to know more too.
-
Lovely work Mark.
-
Cheers Helen,
I suppose it'd make more sense ,if I made more sense. So here we go.
The Chinese figures are a combination of musings. whole league (foreground) is a combination of three real people and a sketch from 'Fram' ,The Chinese cannon fodder are inspired by Lon's back of beyond thread. Then all wrapped up in a out line for a Pulp Alley supplement.
The Mummy us for a Pulp sarcophagus. As my six year old thought it'd be funny if the mummy did an Egyptian 'Dab' as it stood up.
The Green man alter is a cancellation ( found the sculpt a little uncomfortable for gaming in his church hall.So I made him something less English and more American .So he's a happy bunny) I'm just plodding along adding left over clay to finish it off . As it seemed a shame to waste the work this far on.
The Matilda tank turret is a Blitzkrieg product. (I think.) 1st corps have me making crews for English and Germans Simon sent this and a mk iv turret to scale the crews on. I've a four piece English crew done so far.
The nurses are for Sally 4th. As is the Golden Monkey set.
It's an interesting range figures that nod at characters not the Actors.(in the case of the tales of the golden monkey, that's not a bad thing.) rather than doing 'Not' figures.
Once you take a step back its an idea that works. How many actors have played, Sherlock Holmes?,or Batman,or Buck Rodgers, and so on. Always the same character just different faces.(plus there's no stepping on toes )
Don't get me wrong I'm dropping real people in amongst the characters. The Casablanca nods have Johnny Vegas hidden in they're ranks.
Mark.

Lovely characterful sculpts. The shaman = the mummy?
-
Sorry ,
The image seems to have disappeared.(technology tends to ignore me.)
Here it is again
-
Great work.
-
It's been a while since I've had anything that isn't Hush,Hush.
Here's one I can mention. Three bespoke role-play items that had to be multifunctional, and not commercially available.
A flat bottomed row boat with seating option and capable of holding figure. A wagon and a cart that can represent both functional and destroyed.
-
Wow, really nice work, those ones!
-
Tidy
-
The boat looks especially good, and a nice tatty paint job or should I say a nice paint job to make it look tatty. :)
-
Here's a quick picture of the Chinese figures all are cast,.Plus a peek at 'Matts version'and his sketch.
-
Heres a bunch of builds to fill out my 30's table, Just need the motivation to finish and paint them.
Plus a few sculpts.
-
I love this whole pulp universe you are building - looking forward to more of these becoming available.
-
More great work. Love your project. Thanks for posting this up.
-
I'm.glad both of you like my odd ball approach.
The figures are for Sally 4th,not the Follies range. My 30's town is a combination of re scaled card Ho-oo railway buildings, and a couple of Mdf buildings which required a chunk of rebuilding. As the majority of them were dire.I was given three Charlie foxtrot, buildings.By Simon and Mick.Once I'd opened the kits I felt bad for them as they'd spent a fair chunk of money on some awful models .(the terraced houses were missing the entire roof panel.not a small piece its a full A4 sheet long.) but since they needed tweaking to fit the styling of the card buildings. It wasn't something I couldn't work with, all be it alot more work than I expected.
There's a 'Chippy' on the end of the terrace, As its a staple for a 3O's life along with the Pawn brokers(already built and painted.)
Mark.
-
Will that truck with the Vickers be available from anyone at any point?
-
Amazing as ever! :D
-
I look forward to seeing your work on those buildings. :)
-
That's a rather nice show 8) 8) 8)
-
Looking great!
-
Lots of interesting figures and other stuff.
Look forward to seeing how every thing turns out.
-
As you chaps are interested in the dusty corners of my shed.
Here's a couple of pictures of 2/3rds of Fram's Pulp racer crew, which was inspired by a sketch of a driver Fram sent me . I maybe heading off into the dusty corners as its gone from one driver sketch to a car(still building) an orangutan, 15th century Italian armoured Lewis gunner. All on foot and in the car.
-
:-*
-
Looking mighty good - you've captured the confident stride very well! The only comment I'd make is that the moustache looks rather more old and British than young and Japanese. Of course it's enormously difficult to fiddle that finely at this scale... but the easiest fix is to make sure it's not wider than his mouth.
-
Already done ;)
Once I'd seen the image ,I realised he reminded me more of Dick Dastardly . So I took a scalpel to his face.,and gave him a shave.
-
It's too true that sometimes you only see it in the photos.
"Wait... I never painted his tie! Aw CRAP!"
-
I love the orangutan!
-
Murder at the gallop :D :-*
-
Well spotted.
They're off to Sally 4th (probably at Partizan) :)
-
Here a quick 'sketch sculpt ' I was in theory just converting a bike to fit a set of legs.Only I got bored and knocked up this . It's not a proper sculpt. More a rapid throwing of clay.( a little over three episodes of plebs)
If need I'll tweak it and finish it ,otherwise it'll end up back in the bit box.
-
Cracking thread 8)
-
Dam! That’s a stunning build! I’m gutted that’s better than mine! :'(
-
Today's
Nonsense is starting with a green base colour and seeing where it ends up.
There's a little loss of colour tones in the photos. The final highlight just looks like dots . Fools the eyes better than the lens. Hay ho ::)
-
Well, dang it, I can't complain about building an elephant (except for the scale). But I can complain about cathedrals! If I wanted to.
-
Nice colouring! :-* The different tones through it, make it look more ‘real’.

Never ceases to amaze me what you can sculpt out of a bit of cereal packet, Mark. :o
-
Amazing. Looking forward to the release of any of these cast up and for sale.
-
Sabot,
Which one's?
The Chinese are out with 1st corps.
Fram's driver is MIA presumed burried in the cat-Orang is okay.
The others are at Sally 4th. Cast and as far as I know 'Dags' has had his hands on them to paint up( which is more than I have.)
The pagan altar has gone to a new home. The mummy is propping up a tube of super glue at the moment.
I've been flat out with deadlines I've not had time to add sculpts to the thread(actually it never occurred to me too.)
So I'll add a few more painting pictures. I've been trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. As these are really poor castings, full of holes and weak detailing. I've had to use different styles of painting to try and coax something reason out of them. But needs must and now they're done.
So onto the next job.
-
Cheers chap. 👍
-
Fram's driver is MIA presumed burried in the cat-Orang is okay.
lol
-
I am expecting the 1st Corps Chinese in the next couple of days. I got so excited I had to paint up some more bandits for them to fight lol. I would never have guessed that you had any problems with the Casablanca themed minis. They came out a treat.
Lon
-
Lon,
You'll probably get them painted before I do. Next week I'll be making some new figures for my 'follies' bits n bobs. Speaking of bob that's where the next bunch of characters hang out ;)
Until then here's some tank crews.
Mark.
-
These would be really useful. :o Are they out yet?
-
Mark,
I did buy one of the character packages - I couldn't help myself lol Hopefully, you have even more future characters for me! I am still waiting for my original purchase to arrive. We have had a tropical storm through this week so that may have been part of the delay. Oh well, that just means more Chines bandits for them to deal with - assuming that friends don't give me more sake :D
Lon
-
Lon,
I've had ban myself from painting the 'Egg' figure from the character set. Until I can get the urge to paint the 'Magic bomb' he's holding as a Pokémon ball. Out of my system. :D
Vodka they're with Simon, so I'm out of the loop.as far as a release date goes.
Whilst the footie was all pervasive my youngest has graduated from Tin tin, to Blake and Mortimer . So once again I'm commanded to prove figures to go with his Tin tin.
Here's the first thought on the subject.
Plus some more bits for Sally 4th.
-
The Andrews Sisters? ;D
-
Showing your age mate! 😁😁😁😁😁
-
I've a very short deadline for theses. But hears my first throw of dice.Dumb Dumb Dugan.
(still at the fix stage. As This isn't my usual stomping ground I thought I'd see what people thought before committing to the rest.)
Mark.
-
I just teared up a little... that is absolutely brilliant! Can't wait to see the other three :D
-
As always, cracking work. 👍
-
Fantastic, great job Mark.
-
Looks great! :D
I must say, he has more pouches than a Rob Liefeld comic character. lol
-
Are there you go Fram.Inspired by .. Not copy of.. ;)
In short they're chimeras of comic styles and film . So I'm taking the bits I like and seeing what happens. Plus I'm changing through them at N rate of knots. So I won't be a 100% happy until I've had a coupe of days off on something else, and then take a fresh look.
With Dugan behind them it kind of hints at the idea that was floating around my bonce.
Mark.
-
Not technically a new sculpt just dusted off and ready to be handed over for casting at Partizan.(it's been in a box for years just waiting for the casting list to get round to it.)
But I thought it was worth a mention as I've had to tweak the crew(not in the photos) and correct some age related issues.
-
Yay! Are you going to do a Chindit crew as well? :D
-
Cool, how about a twin and triple mount? Maybe a Crusader mount?!
-
I'm afraid that's not upto me. It's taken quite a long time for 1st corps .To go 'you know that Polston ,well we'd like it now please.'
Poiter50 I think you've probably got a better idea than me on how long It's been gathering dust.
I normally receive a wish list of sculpts that I work through this just happens to be one that's been shelved and superseded by other bits and rush jobs.
Rich the weapon has been made so it can be reused for different systems and platforms.
Other than that forward planning ,its the same answer I'm afraid.
-
Possibly my question at Claymore struck home.
-
Cracking sculpt! :-*
I especially love the base with the used shells!
-
Polsten is cast( had to send some pictures to show how to put it together this morning so thought I'd add one here.)
Also the Original Adventures motorcycle , and the production version. Which has the odd tweak to ensure it casts.
-
Lovely work mark once again. The Polsten will be a real hit with gamers/collectors.
All the best,
Helen
-
At the risk of sounding repetitious, where is the Chindit crew? ;)
-
So, is there a full list of all the new stuff you've sculpted for 1st corps lately? So many different things in so many threads! o_o
-
lol
There's a lot, and of Thursday a lot more to do. Next week is Chris Abbey week (plus a shield if the metal work arrives )as I'm re working some ideas for him. This week my workshop smells of teak oil .As I've been craving waisters.Plus I. Fit inthe odd bit of painting or at the moment a bit cearal packet silliness to fill the time when I've sculpted my self into a corner .
'Ecliptic and busy'.would be the polite way to describe my life. 1st corps alone send me A4 wish lists of sculpts to fit in . Thats often in several sculpting styles . In fact Thursdays list actually says this is not a wish list it's a to do list.
Poiter50.
Im entirely the wrong person to ask. (Simon and Mick. ;))
Cheers Helen.
Mark.
-
Just trying to figure out what I ought to get when I place a 1st corps order, or if I should be holding off until a few more of the releases are in the shop... want so many of these! lol
-
I love the painting on that red motorcycle! :-*
-
Andy,
Glad you like it. It's the original concept pulp bike only the rifle is metal , the rest is clay.
Fram there's still more to be released(3 variants of Austin7 alone . One of them has three crew options ;. )
Here's a couple of pictures of the start of Chris's 50's/60's stuff.
-
the snowmobil, which looks fantastic, is an interesting addition yo yhe ranges available. I hope that there will be more interesting additions.
Just a small /humble offtopic suggestion.
You already have this set of boy scouts. Please make a set of girl scouts/guides. They will be a fine addition to the pulp ranges.
-
Thanks Mark,
These look fantastic.
These are the first sculpts for our next Classic Movies kickstarter, which as you may have guessed is going to be Spy-Fi themed. The initial inspiration was the ski chase scene from 'The Spy Who Loved Me' so Mark is sculpting us a 'OO' agent on Skis and a bunch of KGB assassins on Skis. We are then looking to expand the range with all of the gadgety bits that are not currently available in any other range like snow mobiles, jet bikes, midget submarines, Little Nelly gyrocopter etc.
So if you can think of anything that you'd like in the range that we've missed, let <ark and myself know and we'll see what we can do to add them in.
-
;)
There's something in the pipeline that might just fill the bill.
In the meantime heres the Austin7 variants.
-
I think the uppermost .303 rifle on the middle vehicle should be laying the same way as the lower one. We were trained to lay a rifle down with the bolt handle upwards when laying the weapon flat.
Otherwise, I want one for a platoon command vehicle or a specialist transport, (so maybe 3 of them?). lol
-
Oooh, that's really something!
-
The snowmobile and figures look like it would be useful for an Ice Station Zebra game.
As for the Austin 7s :-*
-
Your absolutely right . breach and bolt shouldn't be placed face down. Neither should it be placed on the ground only ever rested on your kit.
I've put it this way for a couple of reasons . It just didn't work visually another way . It bugged the heck out of the khaki in me. Then I came across a period photo with the weapons placed this way.(actually just the one in the top rack.) So I thought what the heck. There's by the book, and then theres free from the eyes of a stripe.
The version with the hood up is a radio car theres an antenna to fix to the left wing and a runner.
Theres a couple of crew options for the civillian soft top.
-
Terrific. 👍
-
As I mentioned in another thread I've found a couple of old pictures. Here's one of scenery and figures I no longer own.But I thought it worth a mention that from time to time I do have enough finished for game.
-
I've been double busy as the saying goes.
Here's a quick of one of the projects that have plodded across my desk recently.
-
I love that motorcycle! The stowage on it is perfect! :-*
-

That's the heavily-laden adventure biker, right? Or something new?
EDIT: Wait, no, he doesn't seem quite so massively burdened - and that's almost certainly a period Harley. A US scout to complement the British one?
-
Fantastic stuff
How many hours are in your day then?
-
The answer is 14-18 hour day.(especially this time of year.)
Glad you like it. But its not a 'follies' bike. It's a commission for some one else.(Infact it'll be sent on it's merry way on Thursday).
Quite a deceptively simple brief,of a two in one kit . Two very different looks and genres all from one set.
Fram ,
In the picture it's not quite finished . So its a little deceptive from this side with all the kit added (including the Harley style horn) Its actually an interpretation of 1926 Superior .
-
Ah! I see now... Is this a private thing or will it be for sale? Dear lord would I like one of THOSE!
The tank is actually what made me first think of Harleys, as their famous wartime WLA had the long flat teardrop design as well. The rifle holster also fits too:

Please let it go on general sale :-*
-
Ewan .
It's my understanding it will be.(just not as a follies piece)
Fram .
The Brough superior was what was asked for. With a .303 holstered as an optional piece. The brief inclued a section of 'flying' scarf. Also the ability to build a historic and pulp inspired bike all from one model.(minimal effort and parts.)
-
Ewan .

-
Great hog! It makes me think of the first scene in 'Lawrence of Arabia'
-
Could be seen that way I suppose ;)
-
Still need a little tweaking but you can see where its heading.
-
Absolutely excellent, it will be useful for both VBCW and for the LDV during Sealion.
-
Terrific 👍😁
-
So many in such a small space... It's like a clown car. lol
-
I'm thinking "Duck Season! Rabbit Season! Duck Season!". Love it.
-
Hahaha! Lovely! :)
-
It does look ridiculously over crowed. But that's the Austin7 for you. Looks perfectly plausible until you add passengers. ::)
As always they're based on real people.( although the images weren't very detailed .So they're more best guess interpretations than normal also they're not part of the family offer. They're from a local history pamphlet .hense them 'hidden' in a vehicle.)
Mark.
-
I love it!
-
Here's a sneak peak of one of the characters from a set of figures commissioned for the new year.
Mark.

Porta!

Q:How many elephants can you get in an Austin 7?
A: Two in the front and two in the back, of course....
-
Brilliant!
-
Cheers I'm still working on a little figure(well Tiny would be more accurate ;) ) to go with it
-
Here's another sneaky peak.
-
Bravo!
-
These are all rather brill! :)

Actually, the rather marvellous 'two option' Brough Superior, with the ability to represent the 'historical' and 'movie' version of T E Lawrence will be the 2019 Show Giveaway Miniature for Wargames Illustrated - you subscribe to the Print magazine, you get one free!
-
Here's another sneaky peak.
And these two Damned Panzer Crewmen will become part of the Wargames Illustrated Giants In Miniature range during 2019.

Errrr.. British tank crew dear boy.. British.
-
Only off garrison, and on active ;)
Just knocking up a quick owl bear built it yesterday painting tonight as number three son needs one for his game tomorrow.( a little more notice would have been useful . But a hairdryer is even more useful so it's doable.)
Mark.
-
Lovely work Mark.
-
You made that!?!?! :o
-
of course lol.
This is what the youngest wants next ::)
-
Naturally! :)
-
I thought I'd better update my workbench thread before it disappears into the eather . (Simply left unused as other my projects of late have ended up with their own threads).
So here's a few finished musing for Home front and the Follies.
Mark.
-
This thread is amazing... I will never tire of miniatures whilst things like this are being produced. Thank you for sharing.
-
I really like the civilians!
-
Lovely work :-* :-* :-*
Sorry but I don't know what the last one is?
-
Superb! 👍
-
its an idea for an Egyptian themed cult.
-
These are a set loosely based on the Ice Station Zebra.
(As people know I'm not a fan of sculpting ' ;) NOT' figures ( unles its for my youngest and he can have what he wants Hense the Tin Tin .))
I read the book rather than watching the film. So I've gone with slightly older looking spies and the officer a more jar head feel. The main nod to the film is the out fits.As I do enjoy the visual of the spies being in fur skins. The subtle cue that the more skilled spy has luxurious furs and boots than his counter part. The fact it visually separates the soldiers and sailors on both sides embroiled in their own issues.
-
Like it :D
-
nice indeed
-
Fantastic work. Many thanks Mark.
These lovely character models are going to be the first stretch goals in the Sally 4th Classic Movies / Whiteout Kick Starter which is scheduled to run for 2 weeks in June.
The next pack that Mark is working on for it is a character pack inspired by 'The Thing'.
I can't wait to see what he comes up with!
-
Great faces!
-
Lovely work Mark.
-
Thank you chaps.
It'll be more a hybrid pack inspired by both the black and white film and the Kurt Russel film.Than any one source.
-
This thread has a lot of amazing stuff, mate!
-
Lovely work! :-*
-
I did pop a thread on Future wars on 'The Thing.' But since I've. mentioned it here (and the thread faded into the eather lol)
Here's my musings on the subject.
Also a couple of ww2 artillery crews.(if a little dusty)
-
Lovely.. now stop mucking about with artillery crew, and sculpt the BEF.. you know you want to.
-
Fantastic work Mark, we are working on the Kickstarter campaign right now and are looking to go live at the end of the week!
-
Whilst re working the artillery crews. I've been doing a spot of upcycling with the heads from the crews.
The sailors in tin hats are a private commission. But the naval landing party will be the Follies range , and the dismounted motorcycle riders will go in with the Homefront stuff. Once they've been tidied up a little.
( I am sort of tinkering around the '38 - '40 mark though. ;) )
-
The dismounted motorcyclists do look good :-* and you can't go wrong with the Royal Navy :)
-
Lovely work Mark.
-
Brilliant work!
Have you finished anymore LAF members yet? ;)
-
There's a few around 80% done. Includeding an artillery office with a tankers holster .So were talking mid july.As certain aspects need a little more reserach . Off to see a farrier next Wednesday. As one of you always wanted to be a blacksmith ;) It does almost sound like glamorous and near decadent way to research for a figure. But Ian's called in a favour . So I get to kill two birds with one stone.Rather than owe him another favour.Mind you he is a vain bugger so theres no way he'd object to having his photo taken. ::)
-
Mark, that's how I do things, 'tis what makes our hobby interesting and fun, hopefully always learning (often obscure trivia, nevertheless).
-
Oh my life is full of odd . its only six months since I got stopped by police and had to explain why I was carrying a spear and a marrow grown by a druid. At 11 o'clock at night.
Right the Mrs is almost ready so I'm off to see Ian.
Here's an update on the pulp cult figure to give it a little more context and more of an idea of what I'm upto.
-
That statue is very sharp!
-
Cheers ,
I'm plodding on with more bits including a cult busting league which will include a rework of Frams Japanese Driver since the original went Awol ,and the remaining orangutan side kick.
Plus my own musings on cultist's .The alter statue will have a couple of detail peices to go with it The oval base on the statue can be put in either way so you cant get it wrong.( so you don't have to panic once you start to glue the figure on.)
-
It reminds me of a Mongolian Buddhist statue, great stuff :)
-
Have you (would you) consider weapons packs for sale? It’s really difficult (night on impossible) to get 28mm Lewis Guns that fit the scale and your Home Guard Vicker’s ‘k’ and Lewis Guns seem spot on.
-
Blackwolf.
It is loosely . I'm playing with the idea of a hybrid of middle east and Far east. (Not as easy but that way I'm not stuck with an obviously themed cult thus a one trick pony.)
I don't personally have anything to do with production and sales.
You could email Simon at 1st Corps. Hes unlikely to let you just order a couple of Lewis guns. As they're part of the master set I did to speed production in the follies range. He may sell you a full spin of the master mould.
Which would consist of a Lewis with cooling shroud , aircraft Lewis. Thompson , .303 and Remington pump action.Scoped stalking rifle and side by side shot gun.
Two pistol forms. Two revolvers, a broom handle mauser, and a stub nosed luger .
The Home guard are armed with a 1916 shrouded lewis and the official Home guard issue unshrouded Lewis
If your after a Vickers K I did a single and a double version for their air bourne range. No idea if you can get your hands on them.
You could always ask about the unreleased aircraft ring mounting in the picture.Although its armed with "K's" in the picture(for my pulp league.) I did make double aircraft Lewis guns.It also fits both versions of the Lewis Guns.
Plus I made a 50cal version on an airboat that I gave to Jon( Dag's ). As far as I know they're these are the only two castings It is moulded . So if a few of you ask it might jog Simons memory and he might cast some up in time for Partizan ii.
-
very very cool stuff :-* :-* :-*
-
Tin Shed Gamer
I gave it a go and received this reply:
“I'm afraid they are sculpted on the figure so are not available separately.”
It was worth a try, thank you for the suggestion.
-
Company B have Lewis guns...

Company B have Lewis guns...
So have Colonel Bills

-
I have some from Colonel Bills and whilst they’re nice sculpts they’re a little too ‘thin’, more like rifles.
I’ve not seen Company B’s in person. Are they any better?
-
Simon popped round this morning to pick some more home front figures.
We discussed releasing the weappns ,and he's happy to do so.
The Un shrouded Home guard issue is not a separate weapon .But the shrouded and Aircraft versions are.
I've a few spare weapons including Vickers K's and mounts.Rich H has first dibs as I'd already promised him some Lewis guns to go with the navy sculpts. After that your welcome to them.
Mark.
-
You’re a star thank you. Let me know what’s left as those Lewis’ and Vickers have a home to go to 😉👊🏻
-
I think I'll need 2 Lewis guns for my planned LCAs... not that I've finished the LCT (A) yet...
-
Just a little up date on some of the things charging across the desk ready for Partizan.
The car has its own thread on the WW2 board but its worth just adding for continuity.
The other bits are sledges and loads for Sally 4th as are the Soviet Paras.
-
Fantastic mate! :o :-* You really are a man of manyyyyyyyyyyyy talents!
-
I do like those,cracking :-*
-
Thanks, Mark. They look fantastic.
-
These are in scale with each other the Loyd looks positively massive with out the seats.I suspect it'll mellow down with eight infantry figures plonked in the back.and the addition furniture as its just a core vehicle to build the varriants from.
The Scout carrier has a radio and slightly oversized airel mounts (so you can drill a hole in for a wire airel). The detailing is done so parts support each other and are less likely to be knocked off easily.
-
They're ace 8)
Which version was it that had the poor sods sitting dangling their legs over the side? 'Cavalry' rings a bell....
-
Some might say that would be a September Follie . Paired with a Dragon ;)
-
Nice work Mark.
-
When will the carriers be available, and how much?
-
The Scout carrier has slightly oversized aerial mounts (so you can drill a hole in for a wire aerial)
Good man!
-
Has Been.
I only makes em. ;) I shouldn't think it'll be too long.A regular peak at their Facebook page should keep you in the loop.(Since I only dropped off the masters today at Partizan. I doubt it'll be this week.) As for prices They've a few varriants of Universal carriers already on the website(all be me ;)) so that might give a ball park price .
'H'& Matt glad you like the gaming friendly stylin
Personally I think there's some beautiful representations of vehicles out their. Which for me are a littleto close to scale model kits with dainty detailing and furniture.I like to take into account Sausage fingers and two left thumbs as basic aids to moving kit around a table.(plus the whole point of an aerial socket is to put one in. Its only going to take a few knock more than a true scale version. But its going to be a lot easier to glue back together.)
-
All these lovely BEF vehicles and no BEF figs..
-
That's a bloody nice little carrier kit! :)
Would love to see some BEF and interwar crew/passengers for it ;)
-
A big chunk of real life at the moment so just a quick peak at some of things floating around on the workbench.
-
They look great, very characterful.
Many thanks.
-
Well I wasn't going to add this as it was posted to Simon more than a week ago.Picked up my post today thinking it was the staff car master.
Opened the box and it's my own parcel lol (the post office put the label on the wrong side of the box. So I've payed to send it right back to where it started from ;D )
So I might as well take a picture while it's here. ::)
-
Very nice :)
-
Is that a scout carrier?
Very nice :-* :-* :-*
-
Cracking work alround Mr Shed! :-*
-
Yep.
That's all the small carrier types done. With the exception of the flame thrower version.
These are all for existing 1st Corps WW2 ranges. However Simon has given the Green light for The Home front range to have compatible crews in the Home front sculpting style.
Cheers Andy I'll have cleared my books enough by the end of the month . To have a good run at finishing off more pulp and home front figures that are gathering dust.(and I'm very tempted to knock up a few more Dredd bits.)
-
BEF, BEF, BEF.. what do we want, BEF, when do we want it.. as soon as you get round to it...
-

-
BEF, BEF, BEF.. what do we want, BEF, when do we want it.. as soon as you get round to it...
:)
-
Ace stuff!!
-
Surely someone is sculpting some decent BEF in 28mm out there? As far as I can see, the only range currently available is Warlord, and I am not a fan of the heads on that range, while there are only a limited range of poses.
In my rich fantasy world, Mr Hicks is quietly sculpting away right now, and a range of BEF with supports and a huge selection of poses is about to appear.
-
Super!
-
I won't take offense lol
( You see I'm quite comfortable not being another man's fantasy.)
I'm pretty sure someone is out there quitely sculpting away ;)
Rich now your expeditions can be royally stuff before starvation kicks in.(a one piece walrus with no tusks to get knocked off is a little trickier than it looks.Under cuts and texture air traps added to the fun.)
-
Yes, that is a monster indeed.
When Ann first saw the photos she said, surely that is not to scale, so we checked 7-11' and weighing 1 1/2 ton, so spot on and very scary... although the article also said there was no evidence that they had ever eaten a human. Not sure I'd want to meet one on a dark night out on the ice!
Fantastic, can't wait to see the the USAF / 'The Thing' character pack.
-
Here you go Chris,
Everything is both stand alone and compatible with each other. Not easy since there's more twenty five year's difference between all the influences and genres.
-
Oh, I love the expression on the left standing figure. :D
(http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=105571.0;attach=108090;image)
-
Wow... thanks Mark, you have done a fantastic job (as always).
I can't wait to get some of those cast up and in a game (and on the web site as well, I guess)!
-
Oh, I love the expression on the left standing figure. :D
I agree- such character. :D
-
Hi Mark, do you know when 1st Corp are releasing your weapons pack? I've got a friend who is desperate to buy some of your twin vickers for a project.
-
Absolutely no Idea.
I've not been well enough to pop and see Simon and Mick.
I'll be at Fiasco so I'll have a chat with them then.
Mark.
-
Gorgeous stuff. I am in the market for more walruses for my polar expeditions.
-
Not much of an updat mainly because its Museum season for me .Also a lot my recent hobby stuff has been filtered off onto dedicated threads like my Warhammer Fantasy and WW2 homefront threads.
But here's a quick pic of two projects .The first batch of Early war sculpts to paint.
And some 18mm. (28mm scale figures ) for a Fantasy range.
-
Cavalry Carrier :-*
-
Hadn't seen that fellow leaning out the window before. Love it!
-
Quick post as I'm double busy ;)
Here's a wip on a Giant spider . Still a fair way to go.Rather than go for a straight copy of a real spider. I've chosen to mix elements of a Goliath and a crab.
-
scary stuff!
-
I've just been painting those Kobolds ;)
-
An armored spider :o :o
-
Well the more plod with this one the hairier it gets :)
I'd love to see how they turned out as I haven't any copies my self. I suspect you'll end up painting the spider as well. As it's off to the same place.
On a slightly different note. Those three pilot torsos are a bit of a pain. I've managed to find a use for two of them.(actually this lunchtime). I actually couldn't get them to fit anything I've got in 1/48. As they all flare out at the bottom/ elbows.(had to give in and file the arms practically off the Autogyro pilot. Pic doesn't really show his position off that well.)
-
the auto-gyro pilot looks like his leg will be so far forward they will be in the carburettor, the others look just great, tons of character.
-
Nope it's all down to gravity noticing it wasn't glued in. :D
-
If you're at Hammerhead tomorrow I'm dropping them off to you know who ;)
-
The Mrs says I'm grounded so I can't come out to play. :?
(Sort of ,no.1 son and partner are coming up from London.)
-
Man I love that autogyro! It's even better with the pilot :-* :-*
-
The Mrs says I'm grounded so I can't come out to play. :?
(Sort of ,no.1 son and partner are coming up from London.)
Understand entirely mate, and, tbh, you missed nowt ;)
I'll send you the photos in the morning when I've sobered up....
-
I ment to update a little sooner .I totally forgot with everything as it is. :?
Actually its finished chopped up and ready to ship. There's also an independent set of eggs and webbed victims.Plus a set of giant rat's(although it's only a WIP pic).
-
They are all fantastic! Although a departure from your usual I believe? Will they be available anywhere? I'd gladly put them to use for my Rangers games.
-
They're for Bifrost. Martin at Warbases asked for them. In all probability they'll be posted to him next week .
-
A little set of musings on figures for a Spy themed Pulp game set. Nothing's finished but it's enough to get a feel of what's plodding through my bonce.
Mark
-
Oh those are great! I love the boat crew
-
The figure with the Sterling would look good for a Winter of 79 game :)
-
Like those a lot 8)
-
Lovely sculpts, as always Mark. Many thanks.
So... looks like the secrets out. Last years Classic Movie Miniatures Kickstarter was all about 'Whiteout' Spy-Fi in the snowy and mountainous areas, and we started off with models inspired by the ski chase in the opening of 'The Spy Who Loved Me'.
(https://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/WebRoot/Namesco/Shops/950003459/MediaGallery/Categories/Classic_Movies_Kickstarter/Classic_Movies_Photo_Gallery/Spy_WHo_Loved_Me_1,Medium.jpg)
This years Classic Movie Kickstarter is about Spy-Fi and chases on water and is inspired (partly) by the same movie. We have 3 classic speed boats that have featured in Bond films plus the Jetbike and Lotus from The Spy Who Loved Me. We will have figure packs for gaming the breakout scene at the end of the film where Bond fights alongside the British, US and Soviet seamen that he has rescued. Finally we are working on terrain kits for the submarine pen inside the tanker and a big villains super yacht with gameable interior. I'm pretty excited about putting some pulpy / spy-fi maritime themed games on later this year!
-
Looking forward to seeing these, this was my favorite scene from James bond
-

So hopefully some late 1970s Royal Navy figures :-*
-
Yes, exactly, late 1970s Soviet & RN in working dress (shirts & trousers) armed with 9mm SMGs as in the breakout scene from the film, which I can't wait to play.

Watched The Spy Who Loved Me last night and made me excited about the Kickstarter. When do you think it will kick off? Thanks
-
I'd imagine 8-10 weeks away, Mark needs to finish sculpts, they need to be moulded and cast and a set painted and photographed before we can set up campaign.
-
There's a little progress on that front.
-
There's a little progress on that front.
Not my particular scene, but my goodness, what cracking little morsels of goodness. :) but I need another period/rules/terrain set like I need a deep sea diving suit for the bath.
-
Tin Shed Gamer, you, sir, are criminally productive. I suppose it helps when there is a pay day involved. ;D
-
I came across this picture on the Mad Guru's thread on the colonial board a couple of days ago. I thought it was quite a fun image. So whilst I took a couple the last couple of days off to mark surviving another another year.
I thought I'd see if I could come up with an interpretation of the Mullah rallying his troops.
Still needs a little tweaking but its worth a couple of photos to keep the thread up and running .
Mark.
-
Really hope that gets cast....
-
That is just brilliant... well done.
-
Great sculpting that banner is incredible :o :-* :o :-*
-
A fantastic sculpt. Full of character.
Tony
-
Great sculpt :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
I want the mule for a Centurion.
-
Mark,
Incredible job on that sculpt! I'd been waiting months for a German friend of my wife's to finish reading and translating the book that illustration came from before posting that and a handful of other Afghan flag themed images from the same book. Finally I broke down and felt I had to post my "Afghan Flags" article to christen my new site on this year's Maiwand Day, despite still not having a complete English language translation on-hand. Because it inspired your amazing sculpt I'm very happy I posted it when I did! I don't know if you're sculpting it for your own private use or if you have plans to make it available for sale, but I would really love to have the chance to purchase a casting of that Jihad-preaching Mullah on his mule.
-
Thank you one and all.
But..
It's just a musing nothing more. As it stands it's simply not worth casting .It has no context ,and doesn't easily fit with my existing ranges.
It would take quite some time to fit in enough context figures to make a mould economicial.
It's been offered to one of those who PM'd who's in the middle of a project .he may be able to get it cast in context with his commission.I've not heard back yet .If that doesn't happen I'll plonk it in the 'one day pile' until I can fit it into a project.( I do have an inclination for a small BOB/Pulp run of figures if the earlier offer falls through)
Right now I'm off to cut the grass whilst the jig for a moped ,a sombrero , and the dolly for a 15mm 'seamstress' dries.
-
Right I'm Pm'd out. lol
Since it seems I'm not going to get any peace .Its going off to 1st Corps as Simon and Mick said they'll give it some mould space for you lot.
Which is fine and dandy. Since I've been scratching my head trying how to fit it into the Follies range (It won't) I've even gone as far as musing foot pose.
To start some cultist for the Follies. Just so I could get a Mullah figure in to the range.
-

-
Wow, I for one certainly hope you do finish that version of the Mad Mullah on foot! The only question in my mind is whether one of his hands will be holding that same awesomely ragged banner, or perhaps a Koran, or a Tulwar or Khyber knife... or just both empty hands spread for delivery of a fiery denunciation of the Ferenghi?!
As a long-time gamer of the NWF and Second Afghan War, I think I have every 25mm and/or 28mm "Mad Mullah" type figure in existence, but I believe all of them began life as Arab Conquest, Crusades, Reconquista, Eastern Renaissance, or Fantasy figures, rather than being created to serve as 19th or early 20th Century Afghan or North-West Frontier types.
-
or even multiple separate hands for all such eventualities!
-
Nooo, not separate hands! Several different versions with the appropriate parts!
-
I can see him stirring up trouble in the Khyber Pass.
-
Maybe the model is finished, and the Mad Mullah has just been jury-rigging too many IEDs.
-
Here's a little progress .
Ive still a couple of context Pulp/ BoB figures to do for this. Simply because it offends my sensibilities to stick alone figure in the mould .
I've an inkling that it'll involve a monowheel at some point and a couple of motorcycles. ;D
-
Brilliant figure, with loads of character. I'd love to get a set.
-
Totally neglected my workbench thread ( reminded by the more than 120 day header)As the majority of last year's work was either not relevant to my workbench thread or simply ended up on other threads.
Just to breath some life into it. Here's a quick over Christmas. Musing on a two pieces round house. The choice of thatching style is simply the 'teapot' lid. Purely for the ergonomic ease , rather than a historic thatch. As there's several different historical methods to close a roof ( including this one.
I'll be knocking up a couple more varriants as soon as I can fit them in.
-
That is very nice work.
Reminds me of the Snapdragon resin.
-
Cool looking build :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
I don't recall anything much about Snap Dragon stuff other than seeing resin trees and hedge rows at a show many moons ago.
It's probably because it's made from super sculpy it gives it that 'bubble gum' look.
I'm in total butterfly mode this evening . Had Akira on in the background whislt working today.
So Ive spent the even on the start of Kanedas motorcycle. No reason other than to see if this type of clay would play ball.with such a subject matter.
-
I mix GS with milliput, and found it gives the sharper edges of milliput, but also the flexibility of GS once cured. Might be worth trying mixing some with super sculpey, it should survive the bake as it's pretty low temp. I know milliput doesn't like the high heat of vulcanisation.
-
It has been Years since i have watched Akira.Loved the film and Manga stuff too including Ninja Scroll.
I even have several of the Akira cells from the movie.
-
Phil, I don't use green stuff as both it and Super sculpy leave me sort clay blind after long periods of use. I normally only use super sculpy for larger sculpts such as 1/12th and 1/6th.
For 28mm stuff and sharp edges I use Procreate. Miliput rarely as it's nasty stuff. Though the next wave of sculpts have been requested with miliput bases :?
Manic,
Why nine year old love's Spirited Away has since he was a four.
Akria is just that fraction too old for him. Let alone Tank Police!
Here's a few progress pictures The Super sculpy didn't do to bad holding the shapes. It's not a spot on copy as I tweaked the model to proved as much self supporting detail as possible. But it definitely gives a nod to the bike.
-
Love the thatch roof round house. At first I thought it was a resin cast as I didn't realize it was the Super Sculpy master until I saw the bike.

I know what you mean about clay blind. The Vienetta minty tone of GS and Milliput actually helps with that. Thoguht I'd mention it in passing, but you knocked the ball out of the park with it anyway! ;)
-
Totally appreciate the tip. Just happened to involve my personal kryptonite lol
Took a late lunch/early finish today so I threw some paint at it.I knew I'd understated the size and angle of the windshield. Just didn't realize I'd gone too far until I'd undercoated it and a I could see what I'd been doing by guess work( to a degree as I said it plays havoc with my eyes if I've been using it all day.)
Lighting as most Know by now is deliberately low in my house due to light sensitivity of then mini pepple we have stay from time to time So pictures not the best until I can use natural light.
So bare with ;)
-
That looks great with a lick of paint. Will you be doing some figures to go with it?
-
Mark,
I'm QUITE taken with your sculpting style! It's very unique and I like it alot. I've been over to the 1st Corp site pouring over your C20th Follies range and it's all amazing! Just wondered if these civilians are going to be part of that range?
-
Bravo Six they already are
https://1stcorps.co.uk/product/civilians-1/
-
D'oh! Thanks Ewan! ;)
-
Manic,
Slightly better pictures.
I won't be doing any figures with this bike. Coz I've given it away. ;D
Bravo Six,
Thanks for the PM.
I'll just add here too. A lot of the WW2 sculpts are in the Homefront sub category of the WW2 section. On the 1st Corps website.
I've been adding ww2 sculpts to my Homefront thread on the WW2 board of the forum. As they're part of my own WW2 project as well as things for 1st Corps Miniatures.
-
Yes, thanks for that Mark. It took some digging over at 1st Corp but I think I found all your stuff there. I was going to mention, when I look at the above pic of the civilians..... it's nice that the actor John Goodman was immortalized in putty. lol
-
Oh no you didn't lol
I've been doing tech work for 1st Corps Since Robbie Baker started 1st Corps.
Not everything in my personal/ prefered style .I still do tech work and repairs on everything Simon and Mick ask me to. Virtually every range has something tweaked by me. From the darkage ranges ancients. To the WW2 and scifi. Through their resin buildings to their WW2 vehicles . Be it a flock of sheep ,elephants, Romano british church, the figures used on their Darkage banner head for their show stand. Crashed charriots, Chinese battle wagons. A who shield wall of different types of shileds to fit transfers.from Greek to medieval.
Even Robbies orginal romans had their helmet cheek guards done by me. As for Civil war I've lost count of how many head swaps arm moves, Hats and facial hair tweaks I've done. Even the English civil war and thirty years war stuff has tweaks in it by me ( civil war mainly horse tweaks and pistol holsters on horse ) Truth be known I've forgotten how much. It's often quite random from adding an edged base to Russian front house so they pull from the moulds easier. To water pumps and medieval tents and tilt yards. To Roman turf forts.
I haven't always had my name on stuff nor have I always bothered to ask for it to be added. I'm not vain enough to turn down tech work. Be it repairing other people's work thats been damaged by moulds or something as minor as adding a chin strap or a mustache. Its a job and work's work when there's mouths to feed and a mortgage to pay lol
(That's just 1st corps. You'd be suprized how many others pay not to add your name. Its Why I'm able to put four of our kids through uni.(so far still got number five at home.)It really does help not have a big ego.On I've still got one and it's not averse to a little flattery every now and then. lol)
-
Sorry Mark. Had to be said. lol
I had no idea Robbie started 1st Corp. But it would make sense since all the sci-fi stuff is by his hand. He's one of my fave sculptors, and I've been a fan of his since he started Baker Company. All my Vietnam stuff is by him, and now that he's doing more Nam stuff for Full Metal Miniatures my collection has grown exponentially.
.Oh I've still got one and it's not averse to a little flattery every now and then
Well then, having said that, I think you've got a fanboy in me now too with all your C20th Follies and Homefront stuff. ;)
-
Pssst..... Mark..... got any new stuff to share? :?
-
lol
Not allowed to share any Follies stuff.( at the moment)
But I'm plodding around all over the place.
Here's the second Round house. Aa you can see they're designed to stack to save storage space.
The ship is for Lon.( just waiting on Okay before painting)
On the verge of finishing the 1st wave of a fantasy range.( Guard's Guard's thread on Frostgrave)
Those are about the only project's Im allowed to mention.
-
Hi Mark, all looks awesome... and always happy for you to share work in progress shots of stuff for us!
-
Not allowed to share any Follies stuff.( at the moment)
:'(
-
Those all look good! What are the round houses for? Period wise?
And I echo Ewan's sentiments.... :'(
-
Love the houses :-* :-* :-*
the rest of the stuff is not half bad either ;)
-
the rest of the stuff is not half bad either
lol lol
-
lol
As for the round house you've got nearly a millennia to pick from as a round house could be a seasonal build or a generational home maintained for a century or more. From late Stone age through to the Iornage.
Appart from its dimensions , wall construction, roof pitch. Its pretty much conjecture for its overall appearance. I chose the style of thatch that culminates in a 'top knot' .For it's ergonomic properties .( turns the roof into a teapot lid. So it's easier to take off.)
If your intrested I do have a couple of picks of the Morris platoon truck master bluetac'd together. Not technically breaking the Homefront ban As the basic chassis was shown on my Homefront thread last year.
But in the mean time here's a hint at my next build.
-
Morris platoon truck? Yes, please.
;D ;D ;D
-
Lots of clock towers? :D
-
Lots of clock towers? :D
I don't think you are on the right track >:D
-
Morris platoon truck? Yes, please.
;D ;D ;D
Seconded
-
Very curious. :?
-
I don't see why a platoon truck is just a CS8. lol
I'd only be excited if I hadn't forgotten to take photo's of say a CDSW or a D type.
But if I had I'd probably be in trouble with someone or other :D
-
I would love if it was narrow gauge railway related. If not, maybe a future commission :D
-
Lon.
Just let me know the track rail widths (rail width and interior distance between the two rails. )So the wheels dont fall through or hang over the edge. Then I'll see what I can do with the spare wheels.
Here's some dodgy photo's of the CS8. The lights radiator & dust screen are a single piece. There also a role canopy and wing mirror's they're prepped for casting so they were never in the photo's.
It's all a bit Heath Robinson as its held together will blue tac and fighting gravity.
-
Can I suggest that they should make those AA fittings (& crew) available separately? Very useful.
-
Fantastic work Mark! :o I assume that'll be available for Homefront at some point?
-
Yep it will be. I'm still waiting on the Beaverette and Tilly castings from Simom and Mick.
Over on the Frostgrave board. I've just finished 21 characters from Guard's Guard's and the Watch. I didn't post them here originally as it started out as a personal Frostgrave project. Now they've gone off to be cast and live at Sally 4th. The project will still go ahead just with at least 60% metal figures ratger than the original idea of 100% one off sculpts.
-
Which sort of brings me on two a question I've been asked quite a lot lately.Do you paint your one off sculpts?
Yes is the short answer.
Otherwise it's only half a job. Plus painting what you make is probably the best advice I could give .As it let's you really see what you've actually made. Not what you think you've made.
The samurai is coming upto twenty year's old. The chunky Captain America is nearly as old as was made for my son's sausage fingers when he was Seven( he's now 23.)
The Adventurer on a motorcycle. Is some where around six or seven year's old( I think.) It was inspired by a photo of a real character on a Back of Beyond thread. It was one I was nagged and nagged about in the end I made another very similar one which is in the Follies range( rifle is held in the other hand.)
-
Over on the Guard's Guard's thread I've been asked several times what do I sculpt in?( twice in the thread and four PM's)
Rather than answer on the thread and derail it.I thought I'd answer it here. Then if it comes up again. I can point people in the direction of my workbench thread.
It's a simple answer .It depends on what I'm making and who I'm making it for.
As certain companies have a preference of clay depending on their moulding materials and preferences.
For personal project I just pick up what ever I've got the most of going spare.
If I had to pick one and only one clay to use .Then it'd be Procreate. It's not the easiest to work with as it can be quite low tack( always dropping small pieces of clay when I trie to add them to a sculpt.) But it's definitely my favorite despite it being a little awkward.
Anyway here a few pictures of sculpts and builds using different materials and clays.
-
Plus a couple more that wouldn't fit in the first post.
-
.
-
WOW! :o To all of it!!
I recognize that big ol' walrus from Sally 4th. :D Was that elephant ever released?
-
It's certainly a big Walrus .But it's scaled on the biggest Walrus ever reported.( There's no visual drama if your facing a mediocre monster.)
As for elephants I've made more than I can remember( literally) There's at least a dozen different elephants including dead ones in the 1st Corp ranges. I made two different variants of each type of elephant and species. Then went back again and made slightly smaller version.
So yes its most definitely a cast model.
(It was amusing from this side of the fence. As the first one's released caused panic and I spent a whole year hearing companies grumble about them .Then come over to the 1st Corps stand before a show opened sneak a look. Then they'd go home and rework their elephants.
The 'Tap dancing' raised foot pose was me. Now you can't move for tap dancing elephants. lol Its taken a few years but everyone's making then now and pretending its a new idea. ::))
The Judge Dredd on a bike was given to 'AndyM' for his absolutely stunning Judge Dredd project. Thats on the forum and Is in the Judge Dredd issue of Wargames Illustrated.
Andy had made a couple of judge bikes. But they were fighting back. So I offered to come up with a simplified version he could use as a template.
He actually painted this one up and it ended up being used in the magazine photo shoot(which was kind of nice to see.)
I came up with a simple conversion of GW plastic spacemarine bikes and plastic imperial guard. The front judge is a conversion of the judge Minty figure which Dag's kindly sent me( if you haven't seen Judge Minty its on YouTube . ;))
The others are imperial guards. Its such a simple conversion that anyone could make them even if you'd never converted a figure or used Greenstuff before
I'd be more than happy to take a look at the Akira image's .As that bike was knocked out and painted in a day.( it was given to a friend's son who's a big anime fan.) If I find the time I want to revisit Canada's bike as that one is totally off ( the windshield is too short and too shallow for a start. But that's what's you get when you don't take the time to look up.)
If your intrested in what little planning I actually do as nine times of ten I just make stuff straight out my bonce. There's a thread on the Workbench I did which is made up of sketches from my notebooks. That I do in meetings or just as prompts for later if I decided to make them.I think there's even a couple of sketches of the elephants that were talked through in the briefing.
I can never get a link to work so you'll have go rooting if your interested. The threads got stuff like this on it.
Mark
-
Had another look at the 1st Corp site and found the elephants. I just HAVE TO have those. I'm sure I can work those into a VBCW scenario. Escaped elephants from the circus. lol
-
This is one of my favourite threads ever. Genius at work, I remember the cardboard artillery piece which is mind blowing, I appreciate your kind advice when I cobbled together an 18pdr!
Please do add more to this when you have time its all fascinating.
-
I totally agree Carl. I'm a huge fanboy of the TSG and love all the eye candy. :-*
-
Steady on. lol
I've sneaked an hour or so this morning to start reworking my cardboard castle. As I have a cunning new plan. I've been inspired to take another look at it. As it's been recently inquired after on my fantasy 'stuff' thread. I really do work off a lap tray sat in the front room . For most of my personal project's.As I'm not supposed to be in my workshop when.Im not working.Plus it's a pain to heat and it's hardly worth it for an hours fiddling.
I also ran Down Andy's Mega City One thread.( Still brilliant)
Here's how he tackled the judge bike.
-
WOW! :o
-
That bike still takes pride front and centre of my display cabinet! :-* :-* :-*
I hadn't seen the Akira bike before! Thats a corker! 8) 8) 8)
-
Cheers Andy .
I'm glad it still got some life in it. It did make me smile when. I was In WH Smiths. I heard a couple of blokes drooling over your article in WI. Wondering how you made it all . There wasn't anything I could add that wouldn't have made me look like an attention seeking weirdo or a lying attention weirdo . lol
Canada's bike isn't right. It looks near enough at first glance.
But it'd bugged the life out of me if I hadn't given it away
I've got a little sidetracked this evening .Chris Abbey sent me a copy of the Sally 4th Trampsteamer. It arrived yesterday.
Tonight I tweaked it a 'little' .Change the angle of the stern lowered the hull depth by 15mm( it allowed me to use the original side panels to plate the new hull shape.) Planked all deck sections and re design the superstructures. So theres a bridge , radio room, chart room, and a state room. Whilst allowing for two corridors all with in the original floor plan. Re design the bow. Panel profiles . Then I got bored and popped on here.
-
Mark, was there ever a Vicar for C20 Follies or Homefront? Or one planned?
-
Not released . Theres a villain/ cultist disguised as one .( has a pistol in his right hand( flaming hand from the Chinese adventures)the set has a 'nun' ,and fifth columnist , and a crazy scientist.
-
We need a Nun with an MG34 (or a Bren/Madsen/name your favourite early war LMG).
Not released . Theres a villain/ cultist disguised as one .( has a pistol in his right hand( flaming hand from the Chinese adventures)the set has a 'nun' ,and fifth columnist , and a crazy scientist.
-
Nuns with Guns ? Pretty sure Nic at Eureka will have that covered. lol
-
Ah ok. I do have that set with the nun. I guess he'll do.
-
Whilst I'm waiting for my hand to heal enough to work. I thought I'd add the quick build I did for another Laffer.
( one finger typing is providing hours of entertainment ::) )
Mark.
-
She's a beaut! 8)
-
That looks amazing Mark! Hope your hand heals up fast. We need more stuff to buy. lol
-
I am amazed (constantly) by what you can do with cereal packets.
Please keep up the good work.
-
Damn cool! Heal up, we miss your cereal box madness!
-
One handed build :o :o :o :o :o
Amazing work :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Cheers Chaps,
Just about back on track. I'm trying a little painting this weekend. Then I'll start clay pushing next week.
(Not really one handed just not all ten digits lol)
Marianas,
You do realize it's the one you asked for. It'll fit HO track . ;)
-
I do and am quite excited about it! :-*
-
Looking back at the April post about materials... wait wait wait, the ELEPHANT'S made of cardboard?
I don't even know what to say about that. It's as if I found out space shuttles really were just made of soldered soup cans.
:o ;D :o
-
It's as if I found out space shuttles really were just made of soldered soup cans.
Aren't they???? 8)
-
lol
It's not as difficult as you'd think. Just requires treating card more like wood.
When I can count to ten again ( rather than 8 and a bit.) If you like I can build something similar technique wise in a WiP.
-
Just requires treating card more like wood.
In what way?
Burn it? ???
-
Nothing out of the ordinary .Sand it,carve it,and steam it to aid forming.Just as you can do with a piece of wood.
I normally use an old table spoon as a former for each half of a body shape ( couple of pieces laminated after steaming then carved and sanded in shape ).
The domed section on the locomotive is simply roled card .Carved to a rough shape and finished with an Emory board..
-
I must give it a try, though I doubt it will be
anything like as nice as your output.
-
Finally managed to find time for a foot version of the ancient Barbarian. It's going to go over to Chris. As an additional set for his Guard's Guard's stuff.
-
Oh, that's just fantastic. Nice work.
-
Colan the Barbarian or is it Colin I can't remember lol lol lol
-
Colan the Barbarian or is it Colin I can't remember lol lol lol
There’s a “Cohen the barbarian” in the Discworld novels.
Totally unrelated to this other equally old barbarian.
-
Those look FAN-TAS-TIC! :o
-
He is fantastic Mark,a must have!
-
The Ancient Barbarian has now been added to the Guard's Guard Kickstarter campaign, which just has three days to go!
-
Mark, reading back through this thread I am SO intrigued by these Follies things you're "not allowed to talk about or post pics of". lol
-
Here's a few reference pic's I've been using of late. ;)
-
Hmm, FJ in Italy?!
-
No idea I can't read the map its in German ;D

lol lol lol
Looking forward to seeing your version of Boris
-
Hurrah! Teasing without revealing. Can't wait to see what's coming.
-
I spoke to Simon earlier in the week. This is cast and in theory on it's way to me soon( Simon and Mick are double busy so it may slip their mind's) For me to put together and photograph.
-
That's very cute. Presume 1/48?
-
That's definitely on my list. Mostly as a mode of transport for my "adventurers". I asked Simon about upcoming Follies releases and he said they were WAAAAAY too busy with orders to release anything new. I guess in a way, that's a very good thing, that they're THAT busy.
Mark, in a previous post from 2019 you said....
Plus my own musings on cultist's
Did these ever get sculpted? And could these be amongst the top secret pending releases from 1st Corp?
-
Just a small hint/ update to keep things ticking over.
A continuation of a nautical theme.
-
Thunderball? ;)
Just a small hint/ update to keep things ticking over.
A continuation of a nautical theme.
-
I suppose they could be used for such . But I'm not privy to these things :D
-
Thanks Mark, they look fantastic.... as always!
They could be used for Thunderball... or any other underwater encounter... they are part of 'Rising Tides'
28mm Spy-Fi: On, under and around the water. http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Rising-Tides (http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Rising-Tides)
As luck would have it I am putting the campaign pages together today, so not long to wait!!
-
Nice :-* :-* :-*
-
A bit of a lazy one.
This one's been laying around half done for an age.( infact it's actually made it into the odd game , before now.)
It's only been finished now as I used it to give context to the downed pilots on my WW2 thread.
Rather shamefully it took less than a hour to make the props and finished the windows.
I'm still trying to figure out how I couldn't find the time to finish it before now. ::)
-
Smashing! lol
-
Looks great Mark! ....and has.been groan!!! lol
-
I'm just jealous that he makes better things
with cardboard than I do with kits. :-I

We all are. :)

great build :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
lol just to get away from cereal packets . Here'ssomething slightly different from the useual fair .
-
Brilliant 8)
-
Glad you like them . Given the reference pic for the demon. I'm sure you'll both be amused ( if only briefly) when it's summoned. Mind you Sod's law says he won't make the rolls to summon it.
-
You've not played against him.... ::)
-
Here's the first part of another Laffer's musings.
-
:o :o Oh, I can not wait to see the rest of this handsome devil and the accompanying device!!
-
His right hand has the small caliber pistol as requested.
-
Brilliant. :)
His right hand has the small calibre pistol as requested.
...small calibre? ::)
-
Oh that's a brilliant looking fellow. :o Is that a Lon likeness? lol
-
Now that’s fantastic 8) 8)
-
Todd, yes but because I am wearing my fez you can expect that I am a few drinks in. lol lol I know Martinis and revolvers don't mix ::). Malcolm, I was tempted to respond with a dirty remark but I am older and wiser, or at least older.
-
You never know Lon, the martinis could make your aim sharper! Stranger things have happened. lol That aside, it's a GREAT figure. Happy you'll be able to add that to your collection.
-
A little moment of Life imitating Art,For you Lon . I'd sculpted the Fez . Before your additional picture came through ;D
Here's a wip of part two .Should give you an idea of what Lon asked for.
-
Ooooh. I like this. :o
Everytime I see this topic "Our Man on Guam" I think how cool that would be to have a Lon figure released thru the Follies range for the rest of us to use in our games. ;)
-
Looks Ace Mark! :-*
-
Nope it's a one off set for Lon.
The subject of going into tin never came up.So it's straight to paint( once the undercoats fully cured.)
-
These have been waiting to disappear for casting for a while.
So just to keep things flowing whilst I rework some other figures. I've posted them now as it's going to be a bit busy from now until next Monday.
-
Please tell me those marines will be released one day, I need them for Winter of 79 :-*
-
Perfect Mark! :-* :-*
-
Great stuff
-
The way things are shaping up possibly not Ewan. I'll know either way by the weekend. ( If it's not then I'll definitely have a little more spare time at the show. So we'll catch up then)
Cheers Mac.
Lon I'm glad your happy.I on the other hand am not.( The reality of having to paint 32 white and 32 black 1mm squares. Will do that lol)
-
lol lol
-
Rather you than me painting a chess board but The Turk is brilliant 8)
See you on Sunday :D
-
Nice work on the Paddy Ashdown memorial set!
-
lol be it luck or judgment well spotted. It's more of a nod and me amusing myself (in the middle of a long run of sculpting)than an all-out memorial.
I'll be there some time around 11(ish).
-
Awesome work as always Mark....
These are of course party of Sally 4th Rising Tides 28mm Spy Fi on water kickstarter.
-
Just a quick update.
It's 90% done. So it'll be on It's way by the end of the week.
I'm a little behind with stuff for members. As I've literally just finished a couple of Hard weeks of very late night sculpting
-
:o :o :-* :-*
-
OMG!!! Brilliant doesn't begin to describe your work! The figures are so characterful!
-
Well Mark, new year.... anything you can share with us from your workbench? :D
So happy your cultists, the downed pilot vignette, downed pilots, Tommys with rollerskates and others you've teased us with over the last year have finally made it to 1st Corp and are on the site.
-
MaleGriffin,
Sorry for the delay in replying. I've not actually given this thread much thought since posting a picture of Lon's mechanical Turk. Its now with him on Guam and has turned up in pictures on his Chinese building thread.
I've not actually had much I've been allowed to add to this thread of late.
The castle finally reached a usable state ( still needs the keep finishing) and actually ended up in a game.
I've been musing over some concepts pieces for ww2 Street furniture. (More pictures on my ww2 thread.)
The robot's are for Pig Iron. The brief was to keep the styling as close to the original whilst modernising and increase the height by 3mm.
Ignatieff's figure was originally sculpted several year's ago. As part of a set of The Extraordinary League of Kriegspeilers.
The Adrian passed away. After which it never seemed the right time to mention them. So they passed into obscurity and a snap top bag in the lead pile.
It wasn't until speaking to Lon I remember they existed. I spoke to Ignatieff at Vapnartak yesterday all be it briefly. He gave the okay to revive and renew the sculpts with a view to casting.
Six,
There's a few more bits I'll be adding soon for both ranges.
-
Oh man, those are GREAT Mark! :o I really need that Ignatief figure! Actually that Lon figure would a GREAT addition if he wasn't a one off.
I was going to ask about that robot because it looks identical to Pig Ion's, but now I know why. Brill!
Six,
There's a few more bits I'll be adding soon for both ranges.
Looking forward to it, as usual!
-
Absolutely fantastic as always Mark 8) 8)
-
Our Fearless Leader! Great stuff Mark.
-
Swoon! Fabulous Mark. Great to see you on Sunday. I think there may a queue of The League after this fabulous stuff. Where will those nifty sandbags be available??
-
It was great to see so many familiar face's at the show.
My main regret is I never seem to have enough time to chat with your group. As your tables are always wonderful examples of the hobby. (If I'm honest I'd like to stay longer and ask questions because it's a setting I know absolutely begger all about. Even though I'm often asked to make stuff for it.)
On the plus side I did manage to take a break and have a pint with Aircav. Which was genuinely a pleasure. As I normally spend 99% of my time at shows dropping stuff off or picking stuff up.Then flying out the door.
As for the sandbags they'll end up I the Homefront or Follies at 1st Corps.( Possibly In the defensive structure section.,)
There's another two corners a lower one and one without signs. Plus defensive roadblocks, and breastworks.
-
On the plus side I did manage to take a break and have a pint with Aircav. Which was genuinely a pleasure.
Oh that sounds great Mark. Lucky Aircav. lol
-
Oh that sounds great Mark. Lucky Aircav. lol
Was I :D
-
Oh yeah. You was. ;D
-
Very nice! I love the sandbag entrances!
-
Just managed to find enough time to tweak and rebase, another Kriegspeiler. There's also a couple of Pulp musings one for the Airship/bomber/ generic crew set,and a chap in plus fours.
As for the dwarf set. It's a peculiar one off musing. It's loosely inspired by MS paints YouTube channel. It's not a commission rather I just happened to see Dave at Vapnartak looking exceptionally tired climbing up the stairs at the show.
It didn't seem very fair to say hello as it looked like his day was tiring enough without talking to me.Plus I'd had a couple of pints by then so my breath would have been an added sin. That and we were leaving to goto The Hop for something to eat.
-
.
-
FANTASTIC! :-* ALL OF IT!
Those Kreigspielers have SO much character!
-
Just seeing the figures so far posted, I'll be buying all of the Kreigspielers as soon as they hit the store. ::)
-
:o :o
Superb stuff

Just seeing the figures so far posted, I'll be buying all of the Kreigspielers as soon as they hit the store.
Me too. So useful for so many Follies. :D
-
Mark,
I am really looking forward to the complete set of the Kriegspielers. I think that the oversize personalities of the group fit your sculpting style very well lol lol. In another life I would have been all over that dwarf as well. These days I have to justify any increased storage and hobby space to She Who Must Be Obeyed lol lol
Lon
-
These days I have to justify any increased storage and hobby space to She Who Must Be Obeyed
lol
Sad but true Lon.
-
Just found a minute to up date to add a couple more pics.
The Great White hunter Kriegspeiler only requires his feet/sandals reworking( which I'll probably do tonight) .
The Ottoman Spy Kriegspeiler is just some new heals.
As for the Yeti, I'm still not keen on it and it's proving more of a chore ,than fun to paint.
-
Well, the Yeti might be a chore, but I reckon it looks just brilliant!
-
Thank you
I stuffed the blending with a Matt Varnish. Totally my own fault .I knew it was likely to happen with a matt varnish. I figured Id enough contrasting layers to wing it .Turns out I was being to clever for my own good lol
I've literally just tweaked the face, and added the intend shading (alway add a layer of varnish before adding black eyes, and a ruddy nose. That way it's easier to remove without ruining the whole face. If it goes wrong.
The base is still wet .It'll get a layer of varnish once the edging has had a couple of hours to dry.
-
Mark, that yeti is just great but I think that the base is the best part! I really like the colors, a departure from the many bluish yetis that I have seen.
-
Swooooon Mark. Wonderful!!!!
-
Superb!!
-
Fantastic stuff Mark 8) 8)
That’s a cracking job on the Yeti 8)
-
There may or may not be issues with the varnish yet I like the end result. ;)
-
Looks great Mark! Your brushwork has done the Yeti and victim justice!
-
Cheers everyone.
The Kriegspeilers reworks are still plodding along as and when I'm able.At the moment I busy sculpting plantation field hands, and cotton pickers. Then its some Iron age/ dark age figures.
Lon.
The base is it's saving grace. Ironically it took less than ten minutes.
Painted the rocks around the Yeti's feet, a quick two tones of Earth brown around the edge.Blast with a hairdryer. thin layer of Mod podge ,stick some tufts in the wet glue .Dunk in the bag of white sand. A couple of blobs of neat Mod podge here and there on top of the first layer of sand, and some dabbed onto the tufts then back in the bag of sand. Whilst the glue is drying paint the edge of the base black.and it's done.
If you leave the area your going to add sand to grey or very pale brown. It gives it a slush feel .paint the area white first and it gives a brighter snow feel even with a couple of layers of sand.
I've still to go back and either add a couple of dried leaves ,or snow to the base.As I noticed the sand hadn't stuck under the tuft at the front.
Carlos,
It's the Colour Forge Matt varnish, and it's proving a learning curve .As it sucks the contrast out of some colours but not others. I've found it to be quite good at buggering up metalics and transitions from lighter shades to white. Greens it doesn't seem to have much of problem with. Earth tones and lighter browns it seem to vary from use to use.
It's dropped the Yeti's fur from blended, down in appearance to almost a three colour technique. It's lost a lot of skin colour contrast on the stomach. But keep quite a bit on the hands and fingers.
It's still a useful paint job. It's just not what was there before varnishing.Which will probably bug me for a while. At the moment resisting paint the second casting I have. As I've the rest of the set and the Cultists to paint. After which I'll see if its grown on me, or If I'm still sulking about the varnish.
(The figure in the picture has had the same varnish, It killed the metallics, and the horses light to white blending.)
-
The metallics before varnishing looked very similar to this.As it pretty much my bog standard approach to metallics.
Only difference this one's coming upto 30 years old and varnished with Letra-coat.
The rest of the empire force had High-coate matt varnish.
Although I'm not sure how well it shows up in the picture.
-
Fear not ‘twas just a cheap and tawdry device to get ‘ yet I’ into the response. :D
I’ll be here all week, try the fish.
-
I figuredit was in jest. It just gave me the opportunity to show just how temperamental this Colour Forge Matt varnish is proving to be.Rather than just saying it's naff ( otherwise someone will disagree, or say Your not using it properly ::) ) I used it on a couple of printed Winged lancers as test pieces. It shrank and cracked the painted clothing on one figure. Buggered the metallics on all three. Muted the blending on the wings of one but not the other. All were painted at the same time all having the same paints and colours from exactly the same pallet.
As I said it was my own fault, I knew it was temperamental, and grabbed it even though I'd a tried and tested varnish right next to it.
-
It’s been a very wet and humid summer here so anything involving varnish has been done with great trepidation.
-
I’ll be here all week, try the fish.
lol Ah carlos.....
That fantasy fig at the top of the page is gorgeous!
Dunk in the bag of white sand
Say, where does one get white sand? I think this would be a good snow substitute.
-
If it's for big area's then you need to look at Aquatic pet shops
The last time I did a winter board 6'×4' I used Aquarium sand it cost £30 for 5kg.( I think it might of been white marble.) Don't use coral sand as snow as its nearer a cream colour when you get it home.Plus it's a little too coarse. It's what I use for my figures at the moment as I made that mistake .
On the plus side it takes colour really well lol
Serious-play is where the white sand I'm using is from.that 75g bag has done all the figures in the picture( except the train.)and the Yeti plus I spilt the bag to boot.
Whilst I'm on a lunch break I'm going to make a new windscreen for the car .Apparently you don't always getaway with your windscreen intact. Just the side effects of lending stuff to sausage fingered people ::)
-
Thanks Mark. After I asked the question, I found the site Serious-Play and ordered a bag of the white, fine sand. :)
-
A work in progress.
Still needs the sword blade high lights and hand touching up .But I think it's probably the right look for the figures.
Still undecided on whether the bases for the whole ser should be cobbled (which I'd have to make) or dirt grass tuft and dried leaves.
-
After spend my Sunday morning colouring in 'Carrot ' I figured I might as well make a start on 'Fred' this evening ( got side tracked clearing away ,and it was just sat undercoated and offending my sensibilities. Plus I'd quite enjoyed painting the first one.)
Still got the boots and weapon to do,and the left hand to tidy up one the weapon is coloured in.
I've still not finished the sword on 'Carrot ' as I decided to use the original Kirby book cover as colour inspiration. Which ment I had to go back an tweak the leg.
I think I'll paint 'Corporal Nobby 'Next,or may be 'Vimes' ::)
-
Beautiful figures TSG- love your style 8).
-
Cheers Cod,
I sculpted these pre lockdown. So I'm spending a little time each evening colouring in enough of them for their original intended roll.As a Frostgrave warband.
I've done for the night with Corporal Nobby. Also made my mind up on a basing compromise. Cobbles with a couple of fallen leaves, and one or two small 2mm tufts.
Now all I have to do is make another dozen or so bases and I'll be good to go.
-
Gorgeous work 8)
-
Gorgeous work 8)
Plus one to that, though...
'Not enough to be Rank and File. Just...Rank' lol lol lol
-
So much to like about these. Figures, colour choices, painting.. I can figure out how much of it was done, but I am curious about how you did the old metal look on Nobby's breastplate?
-
Cheers Chaps,
I'll plod on with the rest. I've only another three Watch figure's including Vimes to do ( ended up with insomnia so I painted another two) Then it's on to the magical members of the warband.
Shahbahraz,
Base coated of earth brown+black.
1st coat is a 60/40 mix of dark turquoise and leather brown
Then the mix plus metalic silver, and subsequent layers with more silver added to the mix.Until it's virtually metallic silver.
Shading 50/50 mix of red and black. Plus the odd dab of Tuskgor fur as rush highlights.
Base colour might come across a little better in this pick. As their armour isn't as grubby as Corporal Nobby's armour. But it's the same base formula.
-
Thankyou for that - it is a lot of layers, but the result is well worth it... I do desperately want those figures, though I have no use for them whatsoever... :)
-
Not if you consider each layer as a highlight.
-
Just finished number seven. So just Vimes to do. And a few more bases to make as I've only managed to make five so far. I'm Trying to bomb through these as fast as I can .As there's a fair chance I'll have to a fair bit of overtime on the the next commission.Excluding the two trips to Leeds I've got to make as well.Which will mean late nights and no hobby time. ::)
-
I finished the eight main Watch figure's. Based and all So decided to Matt varnish them out side.As it was a perfectly warm and dry day.
Everything went smoothly so I thought I'd leave them outside to dry,and toddled off to make a cuppa. Big mistake..
As the window cleaner turned up next door with a fancy new pressure washer gadget. Then promptly set about sending a delightful mist complete with mini rainbow. Straight ovee the fence and with the accuracy of Sod's Law perfectly across the drying figures.
After a brief bought of dismay followed by a slightly longer sulk.
I set about repair the figures.
The gloss varnish and re varnish. Doesn't work at all on figures this heavily whited out. Normally it's a complete figure strip and start again.
However it is possible to use Biostrip 20 to remove the damaged varnish. It does take practice to judge how long to leave the paint stripper on.( Roughly the second you finish painting it on.Is the second you start to wash it off.)
Then it's just a little retouching rather than a full repaint.
On the plus side it did produce some interesting results on the leaf litter. So I left a few areas of frosted leaf litter on the base's rather than replace the whole thing.
-
Aye lad but if George Formby were to be believed, window cleaners are a cabal of voyeuristic perverts anyway. ‘You should see the things I see…….etc, etc’
Lovely daubings btw.
-
Wow Mark, these look amazing. And good save! They look fine to me.
-
It's a slow weekend (once I've been to the pharmacy and the post office, and completed the list of jobs from the Mrs ::) )
So I thought I'd expanded the Homefront town ,which is woefully lacking and needs some more homes.
The board is already a combination of HO, N, scratch, and 28mm mdf all tweaked to fit together. Which is something I get asked about.
So while I'm tweaking this H0 kit to fit in with 28mm.I thought I might as well add the stages of my approach to scale compression here on my Workbench thread.
The figure is 34mm tall including base( I use this one as a reference miniature because its just a little taller than the majority of my miniatures. So if it looks just about right then everything will fit comfortably. )
The original door height is just too small to even work as a small 28mm door .Windows are windows and vary in size (unlike you built it notion of a door size)unless they're already very small in 1/76 then they door suffer in compression.
First step is to raise the door lintel to the height of the top of the ground floor window. Then widen the door by roughly 3-4mm.
Which will give a door roughly 30mm tall. Not quite enough to make it visually comfortable for me.
At this stage it looks even lower. Mainly due to the raw mdf joints.
-
Should have started with a board pick. lol
The farm is a combination of 28mm and HO card stock.
-
Such a lovely board that really has come to life - love the reworking of HO material great idea.
-
I have been insanely busy of late from work to family stuff and back again. So I've not had much time to work on hobby stuff .Infact the terrace houses are currently doubling as a pen and paint brush holder.( writing this will probably spur me I into action one evening soon.)
On the sculpting side too much to mention or more over not allowed to mention.
However this one I can mention. It's to do service as a surrogate in multiple scifi genre's or companies out put depending on your point of view.
Feet still need a little tweaking. But its as near as finished .As it's needs to be for a photo or two.
-
I *LOVE* that face, but he does end up looking jut a hair top-heavy with the bigger head and oversized vest sitting on those legs.
-
It does look a bit stumpy in the photos it's really compressed him down.
He's proportioned well it's a combination of my crappie camera skills and the strange 'X' shaped webbing belt.( a feature of existing figure's in the range.
I've been cautious of the webbing and plate carrier. As they can have the effect of stumping on some of the original figures.

I'm using what little spare time I have experimenting with some concepts Dwarves.
These are the first four tyring to find a look that works best for unit filler Dwarves or plebs of the dwarf world. They've got separate hands so it's possible to configure them in multiple ways. The shield has a hand and grip built into the reverse side. At the moment it's possible to make several figures dual wielding and five different weapon and shield bearing combinations.also an empty left hand. Plus all four poses can be configured as bowmen including a separate back quiver. At the moment these four are built to either carry on of the four backpacks/ or quiver. There's also a shield to be worn instead of the backpack. Plus left and right hands holding a flagon( 90% finished) I've a couple more pleb ideas to iron out then onto a command set. Plus a couple of other useful pieces. After which I'll play with sketching out a few more heavily armoured figures.
-
Love the Shorties :-*
That change of angle makes a huge difference/improvement to the SF bloke 8)
-
Those Dwarves are excellent :-*
-
I have to confess Matts observation has made me go back and tweak a few subtle areas .
I've thinned the volume of the beard opened the neck up a little more by changing the plate carrier neck to a'V' shape and reducing the capes attachment point on the left shoulder.
Then reduced the width of the abdominal plates.
It's lessened the chunky top half feel. When viewed from that angle.
As for the dwarves, I've been greenlighted to expand them to a full set including a command. Providing I add a shield with a flagon design to the group along with a backpack carrying a crossbow.
So they'll be more to come.
-
Love the dwarfs :-* :-* :-*
Not sure about the long bow, should it not be a short-bow :D :D
-
There's great character in those dwarves - love 'em.
To paraphrase the thread's current title
" A Difficulty of Dwarves " should be adopted as the collective noun for groups of the little guys.
Just sounds right.
-
Ah to you and me it's a short bow. But to the short it's a long bow. lol
A Difficulty of Dwarves may sound right.Unless of course your,Craig Shaw Gardener.
It was more of a nod than a statement ;)
-
Mark, it's been a while since you posted an updates. Are you able to share any more WIPs? Is there anything in the pipe for the Follies range?
Enquiring minds want to know. :D
-
Unfortunately there's not a lot I can share. As lost July entirely to Covid then the first weeks of August was a bit of a chore due to Covid fatigue ( I could do the garden walk for miles and only be a normal kind of tired . Siting and sculpting left me completely knackered after half an hour. ) Back on my tool's and catching up with the back log.
Here's a few of the additional Dwarves I'd manage to make.
-
Oh.. I have no use for dwarves, but those are very appealing, especially the chieftain on the shield.
-
Agree with Shahbahraz Mark. Shitty to hear you had COVID and it impeded the creative process. Hang in there.
-
I'm glad you like them. They're all bagged up ready to go to their new home.
In total I've made six troopers without hand's, all are built to have a backpack/ rucksack ( four made.) Six right hands ,and six left hands ( including three shields with built in hands). Then a separate set of a bow, quiver, and open right hand. So they can all be made as archers. Which means they six basic bodies can built in several hundred ways without repetition.
Then a three figure command The leader/ hero has not got hands so he can be finished in the same manner as the basic troopers.,
The standard bearer with two standard options, and a musician (drummer) with no right-hand.
A wizard and of course the chieftain on the shield. So I think thaty probably enough for a test set.
Next more American civil war.🙄
-
Lovely sculpts! I wish I collected dwarves.
-
I do collect dwarfs :'( :-* :-* :-*
Who is going to sell these
Love the beer mug standard
-
They'll be off to Alex at Pig Iron miniatures.( As soon as he's back from his travels, and of course postal strikes are over Massive back log of parcels waiting for collection at my post office . So it was tempting fate to add to the pile's knowing he's away at the moment.)
I also made a Dwarf 'troll slayer' variant for the chieftains shield bearers. With the slayer doing a sort of a star jump/ dive from the shield. I thought it might give a little more character to a unit.Havinh it in the second rank rather than the first. But that's not actually been commissioned. I just got carried away with the ideas for the shield bearers.
As they're off to pig iron. Don't quote me on it but..there's a very good chance the beer mug hands ( right & left versions) along with all the other bits .Will be sold as separate sets to the figures. As it's a norm within his other ranges
-
These sculpts are brilliant! Soo much character! 8)
-
Turns out the reason I've been so knackered ( and forgetful) is I've been merrily wandering around with good dose of inflammation of the lungs . ( COVID it's the gift that keeps on giving lol)
Lots of waffle about resting up etc which I wasn't listening to Other than after two months of steroids.I'd won they highest inflammation score of the day! ( Apparently it's not a laughing matter. Chronic Asthmatics are supposed to score below 50 and I'm showing them up with a score of 88 ) all that over sharing out of the way. It's the reason I keep forgetting to add stuff to the forum. So I'm not even going to attempt to enter the' Build something competition' assuming there is one . As I've a note from the Mrs.
But I will be using this post as a project ' Header' for the things I ment to make this year. But will make in 2023.
Not in anyway feeling sorry for myself. We've still Fostered and plodded along with work. Being blessed with all the usual Sod's law moment that bounce around to keep life interesting
A Lad we homed when he was a teen came to visit with his partner and children . She promptly had a seizure in the Bathroom pulling the sink from the wall and merrily plonking it through the side of the toilet. ::) Stil had enough puff. To replace the loo and salvage the sink ( totally forgetting to re grout the sink joint though) Only thing I couldn't figure out is how she took a chunk of enamel out of the inside of the bath .
So before the Universe notices I'm sitting quietly with a cuppa here's pictures for two of the projects. The others being finishing the castle, trains and railway lines.Bridges and rivers.
-
You do lead an intersting life lol. I am slogging through my latest bought of covid with lovely addition of an infection on the side.
-
And here I thought I would not feel the need to buy any new dwarf miniature :-*
-
A De Haviland Dragon! :-*
This was the plane I issued to my player group in my Interbellum pulp RPG campaign back in the day! I searched high and low for a 1/48 kit of the type, but it did not exist at the time.
So I eventually settled on providing them with a Supermarine Walrus (which did have the added advantage of being amphibious, opening up even more possibilities for me as DM ;) )
If you are really planning on creating a Dragon (Rapide), I'd be very interested, as I've always wanted to complete my original 'line-up'...
-
Wow, you do seem to attract more than your share of crazy. Hope you're feeling better now.
That exploration vehicle is the absolute mutts, a gaming piece to rival Gamer Mac's zeppelin.
-
Lon,
Hope your on the mend. But I'm pretty sure that's not the kind of exotic your supposed to pick up when your Island hopping.
Daeothar,
As for the Dragon I will most definitely be making one or two. As they're a doddle. Being around 80% the same as the existing template I've used for my other cardboard planes.
Luigi,
I'll be making more fantasy bits and bobs next year. But I honestly don't know when they'll be released ( Dwarves) by Pig Iron. Just keep an eye out for them on their page.
JollyBob,
I bet you've never been stopped by the Police in the middle of the night in the centre of a historic town. Trying to explain your carrying a quarterstaff because you've spent the evening sparing with a Kung Fu studying Electrician who's the student of an old Norwegian man who he believes has taught him an ancient family secret marital art,and has turned the entire ground floor of his home into a Dojo for his students.
Oh the Marrow? It's a gift from a Druid.
That was my last Monday before lockdown.
So I'd say it's about average.
I have managed to get things of to a start with the first figure.Though there's no guarantee I'll keep this kind of pace up
-
Some of the bits which hopefully will be with Simon, and Mick before Christmas.
-
Absolutely fantastic! You definitely have a gift for sculpting!
-
Dunkirk in the bath tub? Very nice.
-
This thread is packed with brilliant sculpting. Great work with lots of character. 👍
-
Fabulous work as always Mark 8) 8)
Hope you are on the mend 🤞
-
I'm glad you all like the bits and bobs as they fall out of the clay . The fourth figure for the Explorers is underway so I'll post a pic of the full set as soon as it's finished.
-
This is as far as I'll get tonight as I'm knackered. But there's enough done to show the premise for the forth figure. It's based on another real person an Inuit who was affectionately known as'Chubby'
-
All four are ready for basing.
-
Bloody hell Mark, trying to make up for lost time are you?
How did I miss this last week's updates? (answer: My turn for the 'rona, which finally got us after 3 years... not too badly though, guess all those jabs were good for something after all lol )
-
I am indeed lol
I hope your all looking after yourselves. For me being 'ill' was little more than a high fever for two days and a temp. For a week not Fun as I had to do a three mile school run in a heat wave on foot twice a day for a week. (having COVID in household is no longer a valid reason not to attend school.) It was important as it was a transition week. I wasn't up to driving so was the only option.
But the worst thing has been the recovery August was a busy totally knackered every day I could walk a couple of miles do a little shopping and be just tired. But try and sit down and actually work .hand eye coordination was way off I was completely knackered after half an hour. So it kind of got in my head a bit. I could graft in the garden , do the normal life stuff . But I couldn't remember what I was doing from one minute to the next when trying to work.
So make sure you give yourselves enough time and credit to recover. I didn't, I just got up and got on. It doesn't work lol
Right back onto the little grey men.
All four are based on real people. The Inuit at the front is 'Chubby' who lived in Nome Alaska, the other Inuit is pure pulp as he's based upon 'Nanook of the North ' it's a character that was suggested to me when I was looking for Ideas to fill the set.
The chap with the bobble hat is, A local gamer Bob ( yes Bob or Bibble) he's been sulking for years that I've not added him to the sculpting list. He's actually a Sami from Norway he works on the oil rigs. That's actually the jacket he's wearing wandering around on the back fields waking his Akita's.
So it'll be a nice Christmas present for him.
The figure the started it off as a set is Peter Freuchen an explorer who's entire life is Pure Pulp ! ( Have to confess I was sent a link to his bio. I just thought he looked great as a Pulp and VSF character turns out I was right lol)
-
Brilliant sculpting. 👍
-
These are all brilliant characters as usual, but I am peculiarly pleased to notice that under all his cold weather gear, Chubby appears to be wearing a shirt and tie.
Standards must be maintained, doncher know...
-
He most definitely wearing one in his photos.
Here's a quick pic. Of the slowly grown pile of Grey.
-
I think the first pic, pretty much sums up the whole project. With out the need for much of an explanation.
So rather than build an insanely oversized model from the film.
I've decided to use a Horten cargo plane as a substitute. Admittedly I'm not aiming for a scale model of one . Rather something inspired by it. I've chosen to reduce the engines down to two. Simply to keep the wingspan manageable on a table.( 42cm-ish) Then just because I'm an idiot and the whole thing looked a little boring from above. I've totally ignored the closed cockpit and opened it up and added a little abstract cockpit detail.
I do have to make another pilots seat.As the original is MIA ( presumed buried in the cat.)
I've painted the upper hull/ wing before building the cargo hold hull just so I could test my colour scheme before painting the fiddly bits on the fuselage and sulking because it'd gone wrong.
-
"Presumably buried in the cat" lol lol lol
-
I am still enamored by what you manage to make out of card. :-*
-
Marvellous stuff Mark :o 8)
-
I had been completely unaware of the existence of this ridiculous contraption, but you've done it more than justice with your card skills (card shark?)! 8)
In fact; your version will undoubtedly be a lot more succesful than the original!
-
Our absolutely mad bugger flies again!
-
Wish you would do a how-to youtube video or some such - another incredible achievement.
-
Here's a picture of the crew.( They've already gone off for casting.) They'll be standing in for Pulp adventure,or until I finish the'wings across the World' figures, and of course 'the Boss'/'the Chief ' and his cronies.
I will be doing a tutorial on the 'Dragon Rapide' inspired plane. It's virtually the same techniques just twice as many wings
-
Great sculpts, oodles of character. 👍
-
A little progress. Now upto 90% done . Just a few more details to make and some posters to paint.
-
Super stuff, some right dodgy looking characters lurking round that station
-
Love the Deco styling. Is it beastly heavy?
-
:o
-
Just for you Lon , I sneaked a quick use of the Mrs kitchen scales . It comes in a hairs width under 2lbs ( that's including the base and detailing.). Sounds a lot but picking it doesn't feel like much at all. I suspect that an MDF building on the same scale would probably either weigh the same or even slightly more.
It also occurred to me I've never actually had the notion too or need to weigh anything in my collection.
Shahb'
Every train station I've ever been to has had some seriously dodgy types hanging around. Went to Leeds at the beginning of January and there was a bloke kissing the Hand dryer in the platform toilet's.( I decided I could probably wait a little longer for a pee,and walked up the hill into town.)
-
I feel honored that you risked the wrath of your good wife to give me a precise answer lol lol
-
Quick Disclaimer I disliked this kit long before,I ended up with one.
Which is well known amongst my friends, and its why I've ended up with one. Because they also know I'll make a gift first over continuing a project. They also know I couldn't just build it as is. But more over they think they're funny.
So here's as much effort I can muster for it.
It's most definitely not working on a 4-6 track ratio even in 'scale' .Even though the chap on the stall was very vocal on it being a scaled model. It isn't in any scale I know. It would be fairer to say it's more likely a scale representation than a scaled model.
It's going on a shelf and maybe end up on a siding as a piece of scenery rather than represent a 'train '.Im just going to scratch build a locomotive and coaches.
-
Looks great though, you did a fantastic job. Who made the kit? Doesn't look like the old Sarissa Precision MDF train and I didn't know anyone else was doing trains in MDF with molded details like that. Or was it a toy?
-
Thanks Matt,
But it is the Sarissa one .I just used the same methods I used to make Lon's cereal packet one
-
Here's the first eight already cast. ( I think I'd mentioned the master's before. But here they are just incase.)
-
Lovely 8)
-
Great work!
-
As it says on the tin.
Here's a little more progress on the Horten IHe.38 inspired scenery piece. It's no where near a model of one just inspired by one.Ive still some details and the props to add.Possibly a rubble themed base.
-
Lovely! :-* Capacious little bugger, isn't it?
-
All your stuff is pretty amazing but that takes the prize.
-
Earlier this week I spent the evening sculpting/musing/ remembering . How to sculpt a horse I did enough to remember what not to do.So I left it at that.
But this evening I sat down with intention of painting a GW giant that's been mocking me from months.
But I managed to convince myself. I'd be better off leaving it for another day and mashing up a rider for the horse instead.
This is as far as I got before I painted myself into a corner with wet clay. Then deciding to call it a night,
-
That's looks great. Brian Blessed as Richard IV, if I'm not mistaken? lol
Honestly, I've seen much worse horses too, that one looks fine to me.
-
Your absolutely right lol
It did end up with a Mr Blessed meets Warhammer feel. But I couldn't go to bed with that arm positioned like that so I gave in and repositioned it after I posted the pictures.
-
It is nice to see a rider holding onto the reins.
Excellent work, as usual.
-
I want to paint that 8)
-
Absolutely A+ bang-up job with King Brian there. :D
-
Jon ,
I didn't think it'd be your cup of tea. As its a bit rough and ready. So I based it up to colour in. I've pretty much remembered enough to build the three part horse's I need to. But colouring in helps point out the bits I don't know .
But if you really like the idea. Then I could probably fit in a better version and possibly a foot one too. At some point this spring ( Maybe before Partizan.)
Fram,
It's a bit off the mark as it was an impulse sculpt from me noggin rather than a planned one with reference pic's and what not. As I've said I may do a better version of Jon wants one.
-
Lovely, is it just me?? couldn't help thinking "To dream the impossible dream, to fight the unbeatable foe. . ." And now it's stuck in my head lol
-
Donstress over it Mark - I genuinely think he ace and the, alleged, roughness just adds to his character - but I've only managed to paint your One Man Band for myself this year and 'unfortunately' that situation doesn't look like changing in the forseeable as I''m, thankfully (according to the bank manager and taxman), fully booked with commission work.....
-
No worries Jon,
It is a little rough I've not back filled the underside or defined the Hands, stirrups, saddle pommel and lumbar are incomplete the reigns don't actually connect to the bit or the bridal.an so on🤫
I've a big push to do for myself and 1st Corps in time for Partizan. At the same time Some multi part horse's and some near future stuff. For a couple other companies. But I've cut my workload down for this half of the year.( Fed up with working till 1:30an to 2am and back up for seven.)
But just to make life interesting I've agreed to do a Barons war game.
So I've started doing a little reworking on my knackered Citadel plastic hills ( and the foam ones with the built in rocks.) Whilst waiting for the rules to arrive. Which they did overnight!
The slightly embarrassing but I was worrying slightly about what buildings I'd need ( and how I was going to find the time to make them) So I opened up the book and braced for the scenery only to see a fair chunk of the display table was populated with my dark age stuff😂
-
Here's the large foam GW hill tweaked in my own peculiar fashion.
( Quick confession - totally forgot to take a before picture of the foam hill. So had to look for a stock image.)
I've the largest plastic hill ready for painting. The other foam hill and the smallest plastic hill are buried some where at the back of the workshop. So they'll have to wait until I'm feeling brave enough to dig through the piles of junk.
-
That’s a huge improvement on the original pieces! The rock formations look really good, enough variation in colour and texture to be interesting.
-

I agree. Those rocks are particularly brilliant. Great work! 👍
-
Those rock!
Nice reminder for me to do something similar to mine, similarly buried in the what was to be my hobby room now subsumed as a storage dump. :(
-
Cheers Chaps,
I must admit they were surprisingly fun to do I've now all three of the larger hills done. But still not braved the chaos to find the remaining two. I think I may make a few extra terrain features .As I've a couple of odd bits of foam knocking about.
But on a slightly different note.
I was asked on Facebook if I'd ever made Helicopters. More over a WW2 one ?
Short answer is Yes. The Sikorsky R4 Hoverfly ( Uber easy in card.) . As they wanted to do Where Eagle's Dare. Unfortunately that helicopter is a post war 1950's one so I'd not bothered. But I had made a Felttner Hummingbird during lockdown.
Then it actually dawned on me . I'd not actually bothered with it. Just popped it in a snap top bag,and got on with something else. So this Saturday ( just gone.) I popped over to Simon and Micks to drop off a Civil war master. Took the Felttner with me . First thing mentioned was the Eagle has landed. So It's now going to turned into a kit.
-
Hah! Mark you mad bugger, that's perfect. Can't wait to see.
-
It's definitely heading towards the eccentric . As the main reason it ended up in a box .Was I've no idea. If the centre of gravity will be too far back . For it to be on the ground without it pulling a Wheely. lol
( I'm pretty sure it'll either work or it won't ;))
-

( I'm pretty sure it'll either work or it won't ;))
Ah, the old 50-50 chance! lol
-
Given its size , layout and likely construction materials it'll be a bugger to add weight to if it's a tail sitter. lol
-
Ah you see there in lies the cunning plan.
This first version ( sculpt) I've opted for the near enclosed cockpit. Giving the opportunity to add a little more weight. So it's possible to drill into it and add some ballast.( Well that's the theory.)
As there were roughly thirty prototypes, fifteen pre production models, and twenty four production models. I've taken a little license with the cockpit combining several original design choices into one airframe. Simply to ease casting. Once it's glued together I'll know if it's worth casting the skeleton cockpit. To have two variants. One for the Follies range and One the Homefront range . Or simply just the first version in both if it's well received. As I'm currently working on the master's and Dollie's. For a new range due out sometime later in the year.
-
Crafty bugger! Makes sense.
-
As it says on the tin.
I'm busy musing over a new project. These aren't much more than an exercise in scaling and equipment proportions As there'd be not point in getting the bits and bobs in a mould. Only to find they don't work on figures.
-
More or less set on styling.
-

Is that a FAL or SLR rifle? If so those might come in useful. Just hoping for a EU based seller now.
-
Is that an M-71 in that last image? If so, he seems to have forgotten to extend the tube :D
-
Is that an M-71 in that last image? If so, he seems to have forgotten to extend the tube :D
Pushed the detente and trying to close it up? Silly sod forgot to put the sights down if he did and it won’t lock.
-
Carlos, Well spotted! But he did remember lol
These are test figures and the LAW is to scale at a little under 18mm. Its odd weapon in that in the hands of some troops it looks a Pringles tube, and in others it looks like a drain pipe.
I'm very tempted to go back and adjust the length of the master version of the Law. Just a little to compensate for sculpting hands .As it's does look a little lost on a figure at scale. Infact I'd already adjusted the length of the closed version as I felt in scale It just didn't convey just how much of a pain carrying an extra piece of kit is when it's over two foot of tube to bang around and snag on every thing you've so much as glanced at.
-
Give me a shout when you get them cast, Mark, and I'll dig out the Vallejo DPM ;)
-
Jon,
I don't suppose one of these might be something you'd want to colour in,As well?
It's only a test casting as It's been a little over sanded after being moulded( it's happens sometimes time when Simon and Mick aren't particularly familiar yet, with the part shapes of a new model(hence test castings and part fitting.) So the angle of the cockpit is a little lower than it should be.
-
That's looking great. I have absolutely no use for one, but I am incredibly tempted.
-
I need one of those! :-*
-
Positutely amazing! ;D
-
Now that is pretty outstanding and well pulpy.
-
Here's another picture with some 28's for scaling.
-
Awesome! 8)
One of those would look perfect next to the FA-223 Drache I built for my pulp Fallschirmjäger...
-
Looking good!
-
Cheers Chaps,
I'm halfway through a gyrocopter to even things out. I've painted one of the Felttner's and popped it over on the WW2 board.
-
Just a quick project for number one Son,as a Birthday present for his friend. Of Course it was asked for with customary notice all children give ie. The day before. ( Sod's law I'm out of Matt varnish. So it's only got it's base coat of gloss.)
-
Man alive! He looks great :o One day, really?!?
-
:D Yep. Dwarves are a doddle. Its just a case of sculpting in parts rather than the whole. Every time you've a bit of clay left it becomes a flagstone or the pouches and Hammer head ,etc. Painting it's just a minimal pallet using the same colours in multiple combinations.
-
My Son sent me picture. Of the dwarf with it's new owner. I'll class that as a win.
-
I would too. I am sure he is very happy!
-
Here's just a few of the things I've had on the go since my last updated. As I've been stuck in a Museum Storage unit refurbishing display models. Since May.
-
That is a nice steamer!
-
Looks great, not tempted by a 1960 Congo range? lol
-
That is a nice steamer!
I love that paddlewheel steamer.
-
I'm glad you like the Gun boat. I did do a thread on it . A while back. The Puffer has gone off to live in Canada as it was a gift for another Laffer.I made it sat on the steps of Shepherds hut in June.( Posh living on a Dig.) I did when I got home add some white sand as sea foam. Before sending it to Canada. It took some serious rooting around to find the materials to build it in my down time it's got everything from chop stick, foam core , cereal packet card, and even a base made of plastic that'd been buried on a Dig for over a year.
There's also the 'Red Lion patrol' for the home guard. That will double as wounded rather than suffering from fresh air.
Belgian
I've dollied up webbing for '38 and '58 , as well as nato Canadianand US. ( Plus Platoon weapons) So it's possible. Especially if you root out an equipment and webbing list.
The figures in the pictures are literally just styling pieces that'll get cast as is There an additional set of dollies to knock out figures at speed.
-
Nice to see some lovely new stuff Mark!
No wonder you've been quiet - I hope the job's some fun at least. lol
-
Oh my God. So much eye candy! Stunning work.
Dan
-
Love the stuff! But are they availble somewhere ?
-
I'm glad you like the stuff I'm allowed to show.( There's always more. I'm not allowed too) although I thought I'd add these two pictures as well. There of the adventures figure's went off to live with Todd in Canada. ( Canadian Postal Pilot, Todd's fez wearing sabre wielding character from his group's art, and an Eldrich Horror's Para Handy.)
The other photo has just musings for Home Front bits .( At least one made into the Drunk Home Guard set.) With out checking I'm pretty sure I went back and added steel helmets to at least three of the figures as well
Matt.
I've had very little spare time this last eighteen months.( Been a little ill as well as working. Hence I've been grounded to indoor work as the Safety Elves deemed me too fragile to stand in a field and get wet. ::) I'm allowed out to play now but the kids have decided they want to go walking with me. Which is Ironic because it means I'll be stuck walking through vaping clouds and cigarette breaks instead of fresh air. lol )
Rommel,
Most of this stuff will be at 1st Corps Miniatures. In either the Follies or Home Front ranges. Or in a new range( at some point.) The Felttner is cast. But technically not released. It maybe possible to send an email and enquire after one . It's only a maybe. However people have had success with a 'maybe' on other unreleased models in the past.
-
Such character! So much to love.
-
I found some at 1st Corps as you mentioned, but not yet the moderner suff. Hope to see soon! Continue the lovely stuff.
-
Mark,
At least one of those sculpts looks to me to be a Kriegspieler! Have you been able to reconstitute the group? Very happy to see you back in the saddle again. Hope you had a good break on the dig.
Lon
-
Nearly Lon,
( There's actually five in the pic.) It was good to have Mrs TSG staying close by Glamping in a Shepherds Hut. Except it ment being devoid of covers on a night. Constantly waking up cold lol
Rommel
I'll post on this thread once they're released.
Grumpy,
I'm glad you like them.
-
Thanks
-
Fantastic stuff as always Mark 8) 8) 8)
-
Terrific sculpting.
-
This is just one of those side projects. That it never actually occurred to me ,That anyone else would be interested in.But what do I know. ::)
Every now and then I cobble together a Locomotive for 28mm's
Such as Lons cereal packet card narrow gauge locomotive. After this one( a couple of year's ago now.) I figured I'd like to have an easier/quicker method. To turn out a cab interior. In all honesty I'd been contemplating it but never actually getting around to it Since I made the space 1889 ether flyer.
So I knocked up a quick version then made a stamp mould . Which I've been using ever since. When I know I've a locomotive to make at some point in the near future.I start by sticking every piece of leftover clay into the mould as I work on other sculpts. Sooner or later the moulds full and it turns out a 90% complete boiler unit/ thingy . A little extra tweaking and I have a unique version for each one off locomotive.
So I figured it'd be nice to have some miniatures to populate the footplate. So I mentioned to 1st Corps that I thought a set of locomotive/ industrial crew miniatures might go down well.
At some point I mentioned The poses would fit in with the boiler thingy I was using. Which turned into might as well cast it up for you as well.( bonus saves even more time.)
Then it was mentioned that if I added it to the Follies Range. Undoubtedly someone will ask does it fit Sarrisa MDF trains? I didn't know if it did or didn't. So I went rooting for that Sarrisa locomotive. I'd been given ( those who are familiar with my views know I'm not a fan of it in the slightest.)
Bugger.. It fits with around a 2mm gap at the bottom. So I thought great I'm stuck with a set of masters that fit someone else's locomotive.. So last week as a courtesy I phoned Sarrisa last week . Said I was stuck with these masters that coincidentally fit in the European locomotive. Was that an issue for them, and would they prefer them to be their product, Or even produced by a third party they already worked with. Because I'd like to see them cast. Explaining that I was dropping off work on Friday ( today) and if they had any objections then they wouldn't be in today's batch for casting.
I was asked did the masters fit all the locomotives in their range. I said I've no idea because they were never made to fit one let alone all of their locomotives.
Not so much as an email back let alone a call by this morning. So take that as they don't see as an issue or product they want themselves. So into the moulds at 1st Corps they go.
( a little vexing since I went to the trouble of knocking up a full second copy of parts and added them to the locomotive as an example of how of the set could fit in a Sarrisa locomotive and not over fill the space. But hey ho at least I've got something of Chuck on eBay. lol )

Mark,
fantastic to see my narrow gauge loco. It is a dynamite build. I really like the inserts but I love the rail workers! I will definitely buy a couple packs. There is a dearth of industrial workers and I NEED some. Beautiful sculpts and chock full of character as usual.
-
I'm glad you like .As I mentioned before it was your build and that pain in the backside of a build spaceship. That got me musing about making life easier. As I now don't have to build boiler fronts for any thing that uses steam,River boats , railways and so on.( might inspire me to make a few more Space 1889 bits( always liked Jim's Aphid builds that come up on the forum. Just never put the time aside to make one ).
I did drop off a fair chunk of miniatures for casting ( in fact too many for one sitting so I brought some home. Including some that I know you're waiting for. They're due out in the next wave. Although six did make it into this wave.)
I think I left some where around the forty plus sculpts with Simon and Michael.
Excluding the pulp and Naval landing party sets which are due in the next wave. I've ended up with a list more or less the same size as the one I've just dropped off. But I've some 'Ratmen' and wild Haggis to finish in time for Partizan ( along with a few civil war ,and Eagle has landed bits and bobs. Although the latter might be pushing it given the time.)
-
A couple of quick miniatures to represent Sgt King and Private Cuthbertson.
-
Wow, how tall are these minis?
Dan
(Hoping the answer is 15mm or 18mm)
-
These are terrific .
Perhaps add another two figures from the Bruneval raid to make a pack of four? I’d suggest the German POW seized on the raid and maybe Johnny Frost?
-
I'm afraid they're roughly 27mm foot to eye.
Oddly enough I've just done some 18mm/20mm 'Skaven' and wild Haggis for someone. Now I've some more figures of similar height to do .
I think I figured out how to use these two figures now. But I'm my spare time sat next to the telly. I'm working on a raiding party for me to use in 02 Hundred hours.

They look ace 8)
I've got the ratboys and haggisses (haggii?) on the table at the moment... great stuff, especially the little porridge monsters. Pix soon ;)
-
haggisses (haggii?)
It's just Haggis, you can use it plural and singular like Lego.
It must of been difficult getting reference photos for the wild ones, you don't normally see them till the annual migrations and the pictures of the haggis hunt are a bit messy.
-
and the pictures of the haggis hunt are a bit messy./quote]
I know! Animal internal bits EVERYWHERE !! lol lol lol
-
Fantastic sculpts! Are they available to purchase at 1st Corps?
-
Lovely work Mark :-* I am trying my best to not add to the lead mountain but you keep on casting up these shiny new challenges!
-
At the moment they're just a personal project. As I'd need around 16 figures. To make a mould worthwhile.( So no rush Lon.)
But.... I'm planning on quite a few more bits.( Almost finished a RN 25' fast motor launch)
-
Chap with a Lewis gun, another with a Lanchester. Add a CPO or Sub Lietenant and there's eight. Rinse and repeat by replacing the heads with tin hats and there's yer 16. All ready to storm the Altmark.
-
My cunning plan is a little grander. 32 miniatures, excluding the high speed motor launch ,and dinghy crews.
-
Gun crews?
I'd really like to see a shore party for the 1970s and 80s. I have the ones from TA.VR but they are absolutely tiny, closer to actual 25mm. Nice enough sculpts but even on raised bases they look like children compared to everything else in the collection.
-
Definitely a gun crew. Just need to figure out a set of reasonably generic poses that'll fit multiple weapon systems lol
-
Fantastic stuff Mark 😎😎
-
Yerrsss, great as always Mark.
-
I'm glad you like the way they're plodding. I was planning on finishing the high speed launch this weekend. But given the current storm warnings it does feel a little like tempting fate
-
Might come in handy.
-
Very excited about the thought of mor Matelots. 👍

I had a chat with Simon on Friday. I'll be popping the naval stuff to them possibly in January or February as the Cold war stuff is higher up the list.
The Gnomes are 15mm-18mm( ish) . They've gone off with a Hobgoblin Captain test figure.( Which didn't cooperate with a photo)to be cast so it's fine to post the pictures. The Hobgoblin was tricky in so far as it had to have its arms raised above it's head and holding it two handed starting to strike and a cape blowing behind the figure. Not the most useful pose when it's a test piece for the head styling. But its what's required. On the upside by doing this pose it means if the head isn't quite what was in visioned then it can be still used as the face is practically obscured once the hands and sword is in place.
Then there's just a couple of Pulp and Home Front concepts.
-
Those are not your normal looking fantasy gnomes. That is not a bad thing in any way! Very nice models all around.
-
These are amazing! :o Love the little tyke with pretend raygun. Or.... is it pretend? ;)
-
Bloody brilliant Mark 8)8)8)8)
-
The Gnomes remind me of Ukko from Slaine.
Love the kid with his Teddy bear and ray gun.
-
Great stuff 8)
Make sure you thoroughly disinfect once the gnomes head off as the little bastards with get everywhere otherwise.
Yes I'm gnomophobic and proud of it.

Never visit Zurich.

I did. With a sledgehammer.

Unfortunately for Dags , his the one they're likely to get to paint them.
I'm glad you all, like the boy with the ray gun. It might be fun to turn it into a four figure set.

How deliciously cruel. Oh the irony! Serves him right for trying to dismantle the Swiss financial system.

Spotted a character from The Eagle Has Landed 👍 Fantastic!!!

I suspected as much ::)
I'll be having words with them ;) :D

Good to see the cereal packet card models live on, cracking work, that boiler plate looks fantastic! 8)
Cheers

A while back Keith mentioned it'd quite nice if I made a miniature of this match seller.
So I spent a little time yesterday making it from memory. (As I'd not saved the link. ) It appears my memory is better at shapes than names lol
Keith posted the image and new link to the original post on Facebook this morning neither of which played ball so for safety I took a screenshot . Just for the fun of a comparison.
-
Nice job there.
-
Wonderful sculpt of a bit of a sad subject. Apparently veterans through time have ended up scraping by...
-
I'm glad you all like the match seller I've gone back and tweaked it slightly including sitting him on his biscuit tin.
As It's a subject I thought was worth covering. But needed to be done without preaching.
The Royal Navy types have apparently been released by Simon and Mick.
-
Love 'em 8)
-
The shore party turned out great! I just wish that the Kriegspielers didn't go missing in the mail. They probably got drunk and wandered off looking for another pub.
-
Lon,
I should have some spare time this summer to remake the missing bits as I'm not down for any field work.( No one's planning holes. on things I can BS on🤫)
In the meantime I'm just using the leftover bits of clay when I'm working. To make a crew for the war altar. They're not brilliant as the clay is at the back end of being workable. But they'll do the job. ( Really cutting corners on the bits you won't see when it's finished.)
