ETA is January 22nd or 23rd, to coincide with the 139th anniversary of the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift.

She-ite, just when I thought I,d finished painting Zulus .........
-
These look quite nice.
-
Hmmm, might be good Summer Islanders for GoT....
-
Damn nice :-*
-
Chief Khoza looks like a man who enjoys a hearty breakfast, lunch, tea and supper. lol
-
I much prefer these to Warlord's- the arm-to-body join is more sensible and these don't appear to be body builders that concentrated on ab work. I presumed these would be very believable, they look great.
-
I agree. I like what they’ve done with the shoulder joint - another nifty bit of innovation.
-
Hopefully there will be a box of nnc hot on its trail 8)
-
Glad I held off on buying any Zulus in bulk, these look so slick. Long live the Perrys! :D
-
a year too late for me.... :'(
-
very nice indeed
-
Purely a matter of style, but I prefer shields to be smooth rather than have the hair sculpted on them. I don't really feel that level of detail is warranted at this scale, as to my eye it seems over-done. The hair on cow-hide shields is pretty smooth and flat, I don't need it represented in the sculpt, I'd rather suggest it with my painting.
But that's just me.
Also not sure about putting casualty figures in a plastic set. Surely you want to maximize rank and file in such a set, and leave the casualties for a separate metal pack? Reminds me a little of those old Airfix packs that habitually included a bunch of bizarre unusable poses that always had to sit out one's childhood miniature battles.
Those minor gripes aside, these are really, really nice. :)
-
Those look great, wish I hadn’t sold my Zulu project last year :(
-
This is my first post on this thread, I have been following it with interest for some time. Thanks to Plynkes and the other administrators for allowing me to join the forum 👍
Anyway !! I have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Perry Brothers Plastic Zulus for some time and now having seen them Wow !!!!
Beautiful sculpts with loads of character and loads of choices on the sprues to create a wide variety of poses, both married and unmarried warriors. Looking forward to their release on the 22nd January. Painting them should be fun and I hope to post some pictures when done.
Attached are some painted examples on the Perrys website by Steve May!!
-
Thanks for posting those, Mike, and welcome to the forum!
-
These look amazing.
-
Here are the new Perry Plastic Zulus taking on some Perry miniatures 17th lancers. Lancers painted by Rafa Archdique !!
Got to agree these look mouth-wateringly good !!
-
Rafa is a member of the forum, Mike - see his thread :D
-
Only ten days to go before their release. Buy 3 boxes and you get a free limited edition figure of Tshingwayo the Zulu commander who masterminded the Zulu victory at Isandlwana!!
-
Do we think the various colonial horse units are on the Perry’s agenda for the Zulu war?

empress miniatures do a very beautiful range of colonial horse
-
Thanks DB, it’s very petty I know, but I really don’t like the Ebob horses
-
oooh very nice.
I was always tempted to get some warlord Zulu. glad I didn't now.
3 boxes of these and a box of British will make some nice big skirmish games.
-

You are not alone.
I have a fair few of the Empress Zulu War British figures by the excellent Mr Hicks. Love them.
The eBob horses, with their outsized chests, I don’t like I’m afraid :(
-
Must admit - the Perry Zulu range is nice but I far prefer Empress- far more animation and far cleaner castings (I’m referring to the metals of course) but, as I’ve said many times before, it would be so boring if we were all the same!
-
Have to say I quite like the E bob horses 🐴 they've lots of character and a joy to paint.? I do love the Empress Zulu War range it's only their Zulus that are poor. I spoke to Paul of Empress Miniatures at colours in September and he told me they are bringing out NNC in the spring. They also have plans to release more Zulus but I feel they may have missed the boat there as Perrys plastics are going to take some beating when released next week !!
-
Nice minis.
How do they compare to the Warlord Games' Zulus?
-
THEY ARE HERE !! Zulus farsands of em !!
Perry Miniatures have today released their long awaited Plastic Zulu warriors.
Zulus painted by Dave Woodward and very nice too !!
Figures available through Perry Miniatures Victoria's little Wars range !!

Must...resist....new...period
-
Trying to coax mates into getting these now I picked up a Matabele army deal from North Star :D
-
Must...resist....new...period
If I can help - think about painting lots and lots and lots and lots of figures that look exactly the same as each other. That puts me off every time. ;D ;D ;D
However they are very nice figures. :D :D
-
What I love about these is they are titles 'Zulus!' on the box, not just a dull 'Zulus'. That exclamation mark makes a load of difference.

Agreed!
Especially when thaasunds of em!

I already have thousands of Zulus. (well about 200 really - Black Tree and Wargames Factory).
I ordered a box last night for no particular reason.

It is the true addiction to miniatures, i'm afraid. And now you have thousand of zulus and one more box from the Perrys... lol
(Maybe know you can win rourke's drift)
-
I've ordered 3 boxes and due to arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to unboxing them and trying some test sculpts out for test painting !!
-

You haven't got any mates
I like the look of these, I've tried to ignore the plastic infantry they released

lol they are very nice, however I really fancied the north star matabele so was force....forced to get an army deal in their sale :D
-
I ordered the 3 box set the other day and am greatly looking forward to getting them. I just finished painting 120+ Warlord Zulus. They are OK but the Perry ones look a little better. The unmarried Warlord Zulu have too much stuff on their heads. There is actually no plain unmarried head in the set.
-
My 3 boxes arrived today and the free figure of Ntshingwayo is very nice indeed. Looking forward to putting some of the models together ready for test painting !!
-
I'll look forward to seeing some painted up! They do look great.
-
lol

Most of my collection are Black Tree Zulus, but these do look good.
Does anyone have any good skin recipes? :)

Scour it with a knife and rub salt and pepper in. You get crackling...

Bril.
I like Scale 75 African Shadow as base, black for shading, and African Shade mixed with P3 Idrian Flesh for highlights.
-
This is a good triad for African flesh https://www.blackhat.co.uk/product/cdatr08-dark-brown-triad/
I used the above for the musket men below.
A simpler way to do it is to mix black with orange, then highlight by adding more orange then add a touch of white for final highlight.
I used this for the chieftain below.
-
I have used Foundry Dusky Flesh 6. Alternative versions are Dark African but this produces a very dark skin
-
I’ve tried Foundry Triad 26 African Flesh. It’s good but a little reddish!!!
I’ve recently tried out the Foundry Triad 21 Dark African flesh but that is quite dark.
As mentioned above the Black Hat Triad Coat D’arms dark brown is good.!!!
No reason why you’re Zulus can’t have a mixture of skin tones as they would in reality!!
I’ve just test painted some of the new Perry Plastic Zulus using all three colours mentioned above. They are currently in the varnishing process so hopefully will post a couple of pics in a couple of days !!!!!
-
Some pics of my recently test painted Perry Plastic Zulus including the free model of Ntshingwayo !!!
The pictures taken on my I phone aren’t the best as the lighting shows the models lighter than they actually are. Anyway pic 1 is s group shot. Pic 2 painted using The Coat D’arms Dark Brown Triad. Pic 3 painted using Foundry triad 21 Dark African flesh. Pic 4 painted using Foundry triad 26 African flesh and finally pic 5 rear group shot. The models are simple to assemble, I assembled a whole box in a day!!
-
Unfortunately I cannot post the pictures at this time as the site won’t allow me to do so !!!
-
If you are going for a vast number of Zulus (in my mind this is obligatory) and not worried about highlights can I recommend Halfords Camo Brown Spray followed by dark tone dip
(https://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j375/ErictheShed/zulu/DSC_1103_zps397fvhwj.jpg)
not the best paint job but I did churn out over 600 in six months

I like them. Great work.
I see the guy on the far left has a cracked off spear shaft. I had exactly the same problem with that Warlord Zulu arm. I think about 3 or 4 of them cracked off.
-
@Jeff965;-😳😳 Wow..beautiful painting there sir!
That chief is the bomb👏👏
-
I can only manage to post these two due to file size limits. But these are pics 3 and 2 on the original post
-
None too shabby Mike :)
When my eyes are back in order, I will be getting a box and doing a few of these to see how they stand up alongside my Copplestone / quasi-Copplestone (Casting Room) Zulus...

Looking forward to seeing them Captain!!!
Always admired your painting of Africans so be nice to see how they stack up.
Nice figures you will enjoy painting them !!
-
Just got my Perry Zulus and will start working on them right away. The bonus figure looks great.
-
Yes he is a nice figure. When I asked them the Perry’s indicated they might be releasing some more Zulu personality figures !!
-
This is great news! You have a very nicely painted collection!
I wish you have many exciting games with them!
-
How did you do that skin colour please Captain?
