Title: Pinno's HYW Castle project
Post by: Pinno on January 18, 2018, 12:25:36 PM
Hi All,

I am new here and have few project on which I am currently working. One is the castle for my HYW period (for 28mm).
Here are the few pictures (still early WIP) - use Hirst Art mold for stone blocks. The castle will not be on flat board.

Looks great, Pinno! That stone texture is quite nice, first I thought it was the old fieldstone mold, but it must be some newer version, the stone edges look sharper? I haven't dabbled with HA for years...

Very nice. Great to see the plaster blocks assemble and painted.

Lots of people seem to get a bit overwhelmed and start out casting lots of blocks, but often seem to loose steam before the painting stage.

Are you going for a whole castle, or a corner that can project onto a table?

^These would be my questions too.

A very nice first post, BTW. Great way to introduce oneself. Welcome!  :)

That’s looking rather magnificent, nice to see the varied levels.

@Verderer

Thank you. HA molds are great. I'll check which mold is this one which I use.

@Fred

I create several molds, then glue all blocks, and repet the process. In this way it is not boring.
It will be the whole castle. Thx

@Anselm van Helsing

Thank you. I am working on 2 projects in the same time. Other one is Napoleonic.

@Levied troop

Thx. I will post the updates here.

That's turning out to be one heck of castle!  :-*

Everybody, including myself, should build one, at least in 28mm :)

Yes, I use mold 263.
I am finishing the main building - working on the roof tiles.

I was thinking the same thing. I have the old fieldstone mold. It always looked a little cartoony.

You're making those Hirts Arts molds look very tempting :)

Which kind of plaster are you using?

@Hammers

This is the HA blocks/mold which I use. And it's enough for my plan.

@Munindk

I am using local plaster and I get great results. I am from Bosnia, btw.

Cool. The Castle molds tend to look a bit clunky. This one looks more realistic (apart from the joints).

Very impressive. I got a load of those moulds 10-15 years ago, then lost the will to live after casting some to get enough blocks to build something. ::)

Yes, I have overall plan in 2D and 3D, created by me (my vision). There will be 2 more towers (one for entrance and one with wooden part on top as one on the pic below). Also, there will be the barrack and stable in, with few trees. I am working on the tower now.

Also check out Debris Of War for barrels and crates, they look good.

And some updates on my castle... The first 2 layers of colors applied on the wall section and early WIP on second building. The next one is the stable (between tower and new building... there will be stairs too). Soldier is Perry's pavisier with small modification.

Simply fantastic. Seeing the groundwork starting to be laid down is always exciting!

I really like the design of the castle itself - it's realistic, and seems like the sort of thing you could justify having as the centrepeice of a game rather than just a luxury backdrop. Storming the walls with ladders would make for a great scenario.

Whole castle is my own vision to create some generic castle... Everything started from sketch, then 3D model in 3ds Max.

The wooden base is the half of the weigh... it is 15mm, because of eventually deformations... Right now I am not sure, but it will not be more than 10-15 kg when complete.
