Title: Castle Dracula - Revisited
Post by: Malamute on January 19, 2018, 09:52:01 AM
Seeing Dinohunterpoa's thread on creating a vertical vampire's castle made me revisit my Castle Dracula model. I built this probably 20 years ago and it was one of the first things I showed on LAF back in 2006 lol

It made from several GW Mighty Fortresses cut up, repositioned and stuck together, lots of plastic sheet for roof tiles, and balsa wood.

It has been boxed up in the loft for the past ten years waiting patiently for an opportunity to see the light of day or would that be darkness.... ;)

I thought it might be nice to show it off once again ;)

Malamute, I remember that a long time ago those pictures inspired a bunch of friends of mine to start vampire hunting as a hobby!  ;)

And once again I must say: that's a perfectly WOW model, CONGRATULATIONS!!!  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

BTW: if I recall correctly, your awesome DRACULA production is yet waiting for completion...  :D

 lol

Wait until you see some of the lady Vampires ;) lol

I might drag this out for BLAM this year, I've been threatening to do it for the last couple, but have always stumbled when it comes to what rules to use. I always used to play the old Vampire Wars rules, which copped a lot of flack for the way they were written and proof read. I have never really got to grips with Empire of the Dead. I might just have to work out my own with a little help from the rules Meister... ;)

I'm glad you did show it off, I've never seen it before. What a great castle!   :-*  I have quite a bit of GW Mighty Fortress parts and other castle bits up in the roof. Maybe I should get some of them out and copy emulate your superb model. Probably, I'll just think about though!   ;)

Go for it, build one! ;D

If I was making it today I would certainly do things differently on it and change the design somewhat.

That's a great build. Put it to use again!

Malamute, I don't really think so...  ;)

Chapter 1

Its may 1897 and a young English lawyer Johnathan Harker has travelled to Transylvania at the request of a certain Count Dracula to negotiate the sale of properties in England.

Johnathan is staying in Bistritz and is about to leave on the coach when the locals try to stop him, warning him not to go to the castle. A kindly woman presses him to take a crucifix....

As the coach pulls away the locals can be seen in the distance giving the evil eye sign and crossing themselves.

Nick not wishing to inflate your ego too much but your post on the Dracula story was one of the outstanding posts on LAF in my opinion, bearing in mind there have been some outstanding things over the years, but this is up there with the very best of them. A true artistic production.

If the Moderator had any sense he would have made it a sticky for future generations.  :D :D

I can't believe you would have trusted all your photos to those shysters at Photobucket. A sad day for us all.

I suppose you could do it all again? lol lol

Thanks Chaps for the kind comments.

When I look at the pictures now to me they look very dated, badly composed, some partialy out of focus, etc. It would be a big undertaking to do it again and I don't think I have the time or the inclination. You'll have to make do with looking at them on Matakishi's thread lol

Malamute, do you mind if I post all the text and pictures of MALAMUTE'S DRACULA on a new thread here at LAF? I currently have the time and inclination!  :D  Then you as a moderator make it stick, ok?!

Even if you now think it could be a better work, I think it should be forever available to all the LAF community as an inspiration to us hobbysts and to inspire the new generations as well!

Please let me know!  ;)

Where's the van helsing figure from?

As it's said in the Malamute's Gallery Page (http://www.displacedminiatures.com/Malamute/image/1075/8794/ (http://www.displacedminiatures.com/Malamute/image/1075/8794/)), it's a conversion from this Foundry Old West figure:

Picture from here: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/jimbo_old_west_07.html (http://www.ifelix.co.uk/jimbo_old_west_07.html)

It's Earl Jones from OW045 - Posse: The Reverend John Wesley Carrington And Earl Jones

But of course the Prince of Darkness himself is the best one to give you the specifics!

 ;)

And YES, since we already know there's a mounted Van Helsing version somewhere in Malamute's dungeon basement, we're anxiously waiting for the vampire coach's chase scene!  :D

Ah ha! you’d be wrong! There is no mounted Van Helsing. Being the purist when I converted these Vampire hunters i followed the book...
Van Helsing made his way to Castle Dracula with Mina in a carriage. Therefore the only mounted figures are Harker, Morris, Seward and Holmwood. Photos will follow I promise of the mount d/dismounted versions. :)

Thank you. He is shamelessly copied from the Anthony Hopkins interpretation.
I very much enjoy that film. It’s not perfect by a long shot and  I don’t know why Coppola changed the end given how faithful the rest of the film was to the book.

Malamute
, I know that you know that I knew that, being you a purist, there's no hope of a Van Helsing mounted figure, and you know that I've only used that possibility and answered the fellow's question about your great Van Helsing's conversion in order to entice you to give us MORE of your awesome DRACULA stuff!!!  ;)

And it seems that it pretty much worked!  lol
