I tend to work on different projects, and rather than open several threads I think this year I will just dump everything into one thread. So here we go with my first month of the year, you will have already seen the Mordor Orcs (Oathmark goblins), but there's also somebody to fight them now.
For those interested, there's more information and more pics on my blog - https://paintsngluenrocknroll.blogspot.co.uk/ (https://paintsngluenrocknroll.blogspot.co.uk/)

Splendid painting!
Those are the Northstar plastics? Really good-looking miniatures. Did you make them straight out of the box? (Didn't check the blog, thus sorry if you answer this question there.)
-
Beautifully done builds and paintjobs!
-
Those goblins are amazing, the purple really ties them together :)
From what I can see, its pure Oathmark plastic Goblins, with the preorder metal Goblin thrown in, and the dwarfs are all GW plastic, the axes are dead give aways.
-
Thanks guys, yes your guesses are correct. I do explain this all in full on the blog of course :o
-
Really lovely.
-
Great stuff!
The tutorials on your blog are terrific, by the way; I "softened" my preshading on some skaven recently, in line with your examples, and was very pleased with the improvement. So thanks!
-
Thanks, it's good to know that some find it useful.
One day I hope to progress to youtube videos.
-
The dwarves look great. I like the leather armour look a lot better than the metal plates of the GW paint job.

Spent a pleasant hour browsing through your site. Thanks for posting all of the lovely work on there. Please keep us abreast here.
-
Thanks for the comments. I am currently working on a single figure so hopefully an update later this week. :D
-
Lovely stuff as ever. I wonder if you would be so good as to take a comparison pic of an Oathmark goblins next to one of GW Hobbit goblins? Would much appreciated!
-
Excellent painting, and I must say that I really llike the GW dwarves (Never seen the models before!).
-
Started collecting orcs and goblins from 1992 (like you do) and picked up a troll in the process. Old school figure in a more modern paint job. More pictures on my facebook page.

nice painting
-
Really nice paintjob. The stone axe/club head especially is superb. Rarely seen such an aged stone surface.
-
Lovely troll there

February was a lean month, but here's something a bit meatier for March - Krom the Paunch.
And with his hounds.

-
Love it! Great background behind the character too.
-
Loving the painting style, will have to check out your blog :)
-
The painting of Krom is indeed superb.
But Krom the Paunch...? The name echoes with something green, mean, and small, doesn't it? ;)
-
More Khorne stuff painted, this is the Shadespire Magore's Fiends set. Skulls floating in streams of blood, of course. :)

There are more pictures on my facebook page for those brave enough - https://www.facebook.com/NordsPaintingSaga/ (https://www.facebook.com/NordsPaintingSaga/)
-
Great painting style :o :o and a really nice blog :)
-
I always love your painting style and colour choice! :-*
-
Here's something a bit different, by Alkemy Miniatures.

wow! I've just finished painting this model, a couple of days ago, and I was feeling pretty pleased with how it came out ...but now I want to go smash my version with a hammer .. :(
Fantastic paint job on that guy lovely natural colours..
-
A brief visit to Middle Earth to see how the dwarfs are getting on.
First up, a Forge World Iron Hills regiment, painted on commission.
Similar in style, a little bit easier on the pocket, some GW GrimHammers painted for my own collection.
And some older metals, sadly no longer available but who knows, with the renewed support of the range, maybe they will be re-issued at some point. More for my own Dwarves collection. Free biscuit if you spot the oddity.

That's it for a while, hopefully will return to the Dwarves later in the year. Something a bit spooky is next. :D
-
Added some new recruits to my Undead force.
-
Love the undead... and everything else... amazing work sir. I'm a huge fan of undead... i'm getting more experience under my belt before I start opening some of my more prized Rackham Acheron undead guys..
-
Took me a while before I even saw the ghosts in the background - your army of the dead just kicks so much ass. Great stuff!!
-
fantastic work.
will have to check out those alkemy miniatures.
-
Entirely gorgeous. Love the way you sneaked a shield from ‘Vikings’ in there 8)
-
Brilliant! :-* Any more pics of those ghosty things in the background?
-
Thanks guys. Here's another pic, and there's more on my blog if you are really, really interested https://paintsngluenrocknroll.blogspot.com/2018/07/the-warden-and-awakener.html (https://paintsngluenrocknroll.blogspot.com/2018/07/the-warden-and-awakener.html)

-
Fantastic! Best painted versions of them I’ve seen! Way better than the studios! :-*
Sorry, just something else.....how fragile are these models? They look quite delicate! :?
-
Not sure on the fragility, not played a game with them yet. There are lots of thin bits and you do occasionally catch them as you paint, not broken yet. Only time will tell. If you feel like you are a bit clumsy with stuff, probably not for you.
-
Painted some more of the spirits.
And for a change of pace, some Mordor orcs. There's a big horde of them on my blog - https://paintsngluenrocknroll.blogspot.com/2018/08/more-mordor-orcs.html
(https://i.imgur.com/p2x1USt.jpg)
-
Great painting Nord. I really like the LoTR models, especially the Mordor Orcs and Rohirrim. You mention the Orcs not being your best painted but they are painted. When you are having fun with them on the table, nobody is going to notice there isn't 7 layers of blending on their boot laces.
-
Hot Mordor action..
You prompt me to digg up mine.
I always wanted to try LOTR but when it was hot I spent my miniature budget on Necromunda and Epic and later only kids played it (due to magazine trade style - it was most popular when biweekly LOTR magazines with miniature was at hing).
Ive bought me some Orks when kids were selling out 10 years later but there was just no play time around my group.
I hope something will move now :>

A couple of orcs from 1992. Got a handful of these I want to try to get them all.
-
Finally got these lads finished, started them back in 2016. This little collection represents my whole time in the hobby, some of these figures going back to 1992.
-
they look fantastic ... organic!
-
Thanks.
Plenty of free range goat and fresh malted beer I reckon. ;)
-
Really nice painting. What I especially like is that your painting is not one style. You seem to adapt your style for the miniature rather than force the miniature into your style. Comparing the dwarfs and the wraiths and the Mordor orcs you wouldn't say they were obviously painted by the same person.
-
Those nighthaunts are lovely, but those dwarves are so nice!!
-
Thanks.
Plenty of free range goat and fresh malted beer I reckon. ;)
there's something about them - that pair in the middle look 'real' ... !
-
Cracking painting! These really are how I'd picture dwarfs! :-*
-
Dwarfs are lovely. Where are their shields from?
-
Thanks all, good to see some love for the beardies.
Shields are current plastics from the ironbreaker/hammerer set? An elite infantry unit at any rate. Check out the sprues on the GW website.
-
Hastily painted hasty folk.

Very nice, even if Legolas looks a Little seasick :-X
Jokes aside, I really like your painting style!
Cheers
-
Very nice, even if Legolas looks a Little seasick :-X
Ha ha, I was going for mysterious elvish pallor. :D
-
He just looks business (opposed to fashion-business of Orlando Bloom ) lol

It's been a while since I posted, here's a little catch up for the past six months.

A change of decade, a change of system. Some Lotr - these metal orcs were re-released in a very small window (one week).
And here they are with some plastic compatriots, mostly GW though look closely and you will spot an intruder.
-
I also bought a couple of sets of the Dwarf Kings while they were available.

-
Lovely stuff as always. I really admire your painting style.
-
Thank you Andrew, I feel guilty that I have some of your fine figures but have never painted them. Maybe this year...
And I am going to be making painting videos to share my technique, tips, etc. Stay tuned. :D
-
Gorgeous painting, magnificent color palette. You really brought a great look in particular to the goblins... so different from the usual look.
-
Thanks, it's good to try something new, sometimes it works out :)
-
Awesome
-
I am now on YouTube. Very early days, only one video, but we all have to start somewhere. Take a look and share if ye like. :)

Man, I love this thread.
-
Great video, wouldn't necessarily have picked up all the techniques just from text. Very helpful.
-
Thanks guys.
Great video, wouldn't necessarily have picked up all the techniques just from text. Very helpful.
It's been a very steep learning curve for me, but some things are definitely easier to show than tell. I don't think many people use forums and text descriptions that much these days.
-
Another video tutorial, this time a slightly more involved way to paint robes. If you don't like the blue, try a neutral grey or a warm beige for your shade colour.

-
helpful guidance. Thank you for posting.
-
Great video. I've been thinking about getting some Nighthaunt figs and you really do them justice.
-
Thanks guys, currently working on a banshee, using just five colours. Hoping to get that posted early next week.
-
Lovely work! And thanks for the guide too!
If you don't mind me asking, how do you paint those white horses?
-
Horse painting video is on my to do list. In a nutshell, it's based, glazed/shaded, stippled for texture, selective highlights. Probably not that helpful, I will move the horses up the list.
In the meantime, got some more pics of the chariot :-
