Never underestimate my ability to get entangled in more projects that I can deal with! :D
This story begins (as usual) years ago, when I got the new Space Hulk... and never went further than storaging the box since then :'(. That never prevented me from getting the Overkill game and... well, you can guess it :P :'(
Anyway, that's enough! I've put my hands on these four armed gentlemen. I've started with the Space Hulk Genestealers. I decided to paint all of them in a row, as I find it easier and less exhausting.

After spending some time deciding what colours would best fit them, I finally opted for a kind of classic approach. Blue for the chitinous parts then; but for the fleshy parts I didn't want straight purple, so I mixed it with flesh tones. That gives them a more natural feeling and will help me to tie these minis with the Hybrids from Overkill.

In this kind of projects I always tend to make slight conversions. Repositioning arms, swapping heads... But this time I just painted them, it was the only way of having them finished and keeping sanity ;D. I don't think any conversion work would have been noticed among this whirlwind of claws and jaws anyway.

They look spectacular! I love the subtle purple in the skin tones. The bold blue carapace highlighting works really well too.

The Cult has started! Those four armed people now have someone who worship them. Here you have the Magus:

The robes had to be garnished to make his position evident in the Cult. Maybe too much curtain-like, but who am I to judge about fashion within Genestealers.
The Genestealer Primus is quite different, as he is supposed to be the military leader of the uprising miners, so he is more like one of them:

There are two familiars in the command sprue. As I have not read the Overkill rulebook, I have no idea of their purpose in the game. Tiny Genestealer Gollums, I an work with that for the moment:

Funny enough before i looked at their site, i looked at your pic and thought "how do i get a second axel of wheels in the back?"
Oh easy enough, i buy the one with the extra set of wheels in the back instead of the one above. :-)

That car looks awesome indeed! However, I'm taking a whole different path this time. I'm sticking to the mining concept. These people don't live in the city, but hide in the mine, generally hidden from the rest of the population. I thought that, if they had some portable mining lasers, wouldn't they need some bigger lasers to open new tunnels and stuff?

Well, it is in quite an early stage. My first idea was an ordinary drilling machine. The Hades Drill from ForgeWorld would have been perfect, but the price disencouraged me given the little use I would have for it. The mining laser looked like a decent option instead. It's just a Sentinel cockpit, a Humvee rear part and a Tiger I cannon. The structure to hold it all together is plain cardboard.
I'm currently adding bits and bobs to give it a proper sci-fi vibe. Some pics soon, I hope :)

First thing, I needed an operator, so I used the Sentinel pilot...

Then I built the main hull. The pieces you saw the other day with cardboard for the main structure and any random piece I could come up with.

My problem with this is that it resembled too much a WH40K tank. You know, a tiny brick with a ridiculously oversized gun :-X

Wow, gentlemen, I won't pretend I'm even close to the standards of any of you, but your encouragement is tremendously appreciated! I'm planning to build a humble modular mine, just a few corridors and rooms. A place where the Cult lives underground, halfway between abandoned catacombs and a tech-mine. Some kind of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom meets Total Recall ;D
Oh, just dreaming. This is way beyond my skills. In fact I think it would be better if I commissioned any of you to build a mine... or why not both? A joint project involving you two is a thing we all in LAF would love to see ::)

I absolutely love the mining vehicle. Inspired work. Using the sentinel body as a driver's cabin is perfect. Now I know what to do with that extra sentinel kit in my basement.

Why did I enclose it, instead of doing three walls and leaving the fourth one for exposition? Because I didn't want a mere vignette. I'm that crazy and I'm seriously doing a full 3D board, a Space Hulk like dungeon, set in a mine or catacombs where the Genestealer Cult thrives underground o_o. So this is just but the first of many other rooms to come!

I cut it at the waist and made some greenstuff work on all the belly to make him fat and bloated like the old model ::)

It's taken me some time, but I have a second room for my Genestealer dungeon ;D. I wanted to use the rest of the Hobbit core box scenery, so I needed to build a proper space. Foam board and 1 Kg of Das (yes, I used a full kilo set ;D)

I really want the rooms to have four walls when possible. I pretend the dungeon to be immersive, oppressive; that the Space Marine player feels suffocated, as you might expect from a Space Hulk :D. I will necessarily have to break the fourth wall (quite literally) for some of the rooms I have in mind, but I'll build the four walls whenever it is feasible. I believe that the fact of having the platforms and caves both sides in this large room reflects the atmosphere I want to achieve.
I'd like to explore the 3D aspect and build an abandoned mine/catacombs/whatever with two or three levels, but that involves a degree of planification I haven't even started yet to think about! :D

I stuck to the mine vibe, so they all are irregular, just excavated on the rock and with girders to underpin the structure. I took it one step further and dared to paint some decorations on the walls. Some kind of ancient language, only used by the Cult, to add this kind of ritual sense to the thing.

The corridors are really narrow. But that's the whole point of it, these are not the Mines of Moria, just catacombs, mines and abandoned underground places. I think this is how a Space Hulk like board should feel, suffocating and uneasy. Back to the underground maze, I noticed a thing. If this belongs to a Genestealer Cult, it of course needed the defining element of any cult, i.e., a church or a chapel. So I cut some foamboard and put DAS clay putty on it. I used these templates from MiniWorlds (https://www.miniworlds-store.com/index.html), which turned to be a good decision:

The putty was a little bit dry (bad storage, my fault), so I had to add water. Funny thing is that in the end, the putty being not in optimal condition was an advantage, as the final texture was better indeed, like old, eroded stone. The main bulk of it was like this:

It was a matter of compromise. Had I painted the xeno grafitti first and then asembled it all, it would have taken me ages. I really needed to achieve some results:

Once we have reached this point, please let me a little bit of philosophy (or maybe even theology). What's the distinctive element in the Genestealer Cult? That they are... well, a Cult. Religion plays a central role, as it does on Warhammer 40,000 in general. Political dissent is shown by religion (which is quite a thing to think about!)
What else is important? Breeding. Think of it. The Cult expands not only by infecting new victims (in a vampire style fashion), but by nurturing Hybrids in a process that literally takes generations. So... why have we never seen religious representations of fertility/growth/motherhood/whatever? It may play a pretty important role in the expansion of the Cult. But we only see the Patriarch and the Magus. Well, not anymore. Such an important element has to be represented. I thought of classical (ancient) fertility goddesses, in a primitive way, from the Venus of Willendorf to Tanith/Astarté:

I built an improvised altar or shrine for her. A spontaneous place of meeting, in which expecting mothers pray for a good pregnancy and a healthy new generation of hybrids; a place where you can lit up a candle and place pics of your missing or lost relatives, victims of the Imperial scum on the surface, and where you leave farewell letters or improvised poems:

Besides, I thought it would be fun for the Magus to have servo-skulls. Servo-skulls are quite an iconic element in WH40K since the beginning, and anyone slightly relevant in the Imperium has one. So if the Cult is somehow mimicking the Imperial structures, I thought it would be logical that the leaders wanted to have their own sign of position.
