Title: Latest Horus Heresy units finished for Istvaan III
Post by: Pictors Studio on February 10, 2018, 11:35:44 PM
The first of the Sons of Horus forces for our Istvaan III game at Historicon are just about finished. These guys still need some weathering but other than that they are all finished.

They are going to see some action on the table tomorrow as we play an Istvaan III game.  They will be on the loyalist side as a rag tag band of survivors try to live through an attack by the World Eater Primarch.

Juljak Nul was a commander in the Warhounds before the recovery of Angron. He suffered horrific wounds and was interred in a dreadnought eventually.

He was with the troops sent down to die on Istvaan III and survived the virus bombing and resultant fire storms.

He eventually fell along with many other World Eaters when Angron attacked the survivors.

Nul was equipped with two Kheres pattern assault cannons during the fighting on Istvaan III.

Thanks.  Here are the first of the XVI's veteran squad.

There is another bolter armed guy who is finished and then there will be two specialists and a Sergeant.  I'm not sure what the specialists are getting yet.  Options are meltagun, flamer, plasma gun, missile launcher (although I already have a squad of those so probably not) or Heavy bolter.

I'm thinking Plasma gun and melta gun or two plasma guns.

We will see.  I'll probably build them later tonight if I'm still snowed in.

Nice.
Title: Re: Latest Horus Heresy units finished for Istvaan III now with more SoH!
Post by: Pictors Studio on May 10, 2018, 04:01:57 AM
I just completed the next Veteran Squad for my SoH for the Istvaan III game.  These guys are going to be the core of the SoH force.

There are 10 of them.  One with a plasma gun, one with a melta gun and a Sergeant.  The rest have bolters.  The sergeant is showing some wear and tear in that his armour has been patched with the vambrace and gauntlet from an Emperor's Children marine.

The rest of the guys are pretty standard as I will probably use these for stuff other than Istvaan III, likely including a Molech campaign at some point and the attack on the Vengeful Spirit later as my friend as a crap load of Blood Angels and I have some Custodes.

Just got finished with the Reavers.  These guys will be reinforcements not part of the main army initially deployed.  They will only come on as traitors.

I made them using a mix of the MKIV marines and a couple of frames from the Khorne berzerker box that I found in a used bin for $10.

I will probably do three more of them before the game.

Nice work Scott.  Of course they deserve to die in a hail of artillery shells but nicely done none the less.

Thank you.  Here is the tank that might make some of them die.

Just some heavy support to add some anti-infantry firepower to the loyalist Sons of Horus.  Possibly not the best load out for a vehicle that is going to only be fighting space marines but with 8 shots a turn, it might put a hurting on Angron himself.

Obviously it has seen some battle prior to these pictures being taken.  The gang signs so prevalent on the armour of the Sons of Horus can be seen on this vehicle.

I'll have to get the guys together for a group shot at some point.  Most of them are here but the heavy weapons squad is at my storage unit.  I might run out there today when I go to the gym.

This finishes off the Sons of Horus for now.  I may add a few more reavers to the reaver squad but no more units will be added until after I get some Emperor's Children done.  I'm starting on those with a Cerebus heavy tank destroyer.  I thin they will be coming to the fight as an elite force using the rite of war that allows them to field terminators and veterans as troop choices.

We will be having a game on June 17th.  The game will be at Phantom of the Attic in Pittsburgh on S. Craig street.

http://www.pota-oakland.com/games/

This will be a Warhammer 30K game.  We will be gaming a portion of the Battle of Istvaan III.  The Legions allied to the Warmaster attempted to purge the loyalist elements from within their ranks.  To accomplish this the suspected loyalists were sent down to the surface of Istvaan III to put down a rebellion against Imperial authority.

While on the planet fighting against the insurgents the loyalists were betrayed.  Horus released the life eater virus into the atmosphere of the planet from his ship.  Due to the brave actions of several Astartes who were still aboard the fleet for various reasons word reached the troops on the ground of the betrayal.  Many perished but many were able to find shelter in the myriad underground catacombs of the Choral City, the capital of Istvaan III.

After the Life Eater virus turned most living creatures on the planet to mush Horus used lance strikes from his ship to ignite the released methane in the atmosphere causing a global firestorm which inflicted further loss.

Once the fires died down there were still indications of life on the planet.  Sickened by the impersonal nature of the destruction so far Angron lead a wave of his World Eater legion to the surface of the plant to root out and destroy the survivors.

His initial landing will be represented as he attacks the loyalist elements of his own legion as well as some Astartes from the Emperor's Children and the Sons of Horus who found shelter in the same place.

We will be starting around 1.    All the models, dice, rules and terrain will be provided.

More Emperor's Children.

Here is the first actual squad of Emperor's Children that I've finished to go along with their Primus Medicae.  It is a sort of rag-tag bunch of terminators armed with weapons from the fallen.

They have a disproportionate amount of plasma and vulkite weapons to deal with enemy infantry in anticipated tunnel fighting.  It will probably come in handy in the close quarters of the ruined Choral city.

They also have a variety of close combat upgrades including this guy with lightning claws.

If I ever expand this force into a whole army (I suppose that should be when) I will probably divide these guys among two squads, one more close combat dedicated.

For now I think they give the appearance of an amalgamated squad that picked up what weapons they could find from the dead and are looking to sell their lives dearly.

Looks like you will have a fun game this weekend.   Are you photographing this unit on a background you bought or one you made?
