Calling on the group. I am looking for fantasy figures (Dwarves, Elves, Halflings, Orcs ect) that are armed with more modern weapons. Say 1980s till today.
Are there any out there?

The miniatures for Shadowrun feature fantasy races (elf, orc, troll, dwarf) with modern weapons, but they are in modern clothing (well 80s/90s era).
Iron Wind and RalPartha Europe have pretty much all the current releases with other OOP ones around on eBay etc.

You might have better luck swapping regular figures weapons with some from a modern weapon sprue.

Old 25mm humans can be used as Dwarves, especially if you add beards. Friend of mine made a whole gang of dwarves for a recent Shadowrun game using old Grenadier Gang Buster figures.

I use some of the old true 25mm Shadowrun and Grenadier Cyberpunk human characters as elves alongside 28mm figures and some of the bulkier modern 28mm ranges with a headswap become orcs or trolls. The Mantic fantasy sprues give good Shadowrun sized orc heads.

There are plenty of fantasy plastics you can convert, the ex Wargames Factory survivors came with an equipment sprue with AK47s, M16 and L85s plus SMGs and pistols.
Crooked Dice Minions (and law men) have separate heads so you could easily convert them to elves or less cartoony orc's.
Hasslefree have their Grymm range of ultramodern to SF people of diminutive stature. No beards though.

I had thought of using grymm as halflings but not sure of their size.
Would they be small enough next to Dwarf figures?

I forgot the Crooked Dice Simians, bulkier than minions and again have separate heads.

I love Mary Gentle's book Grunts!; basically a dimension traveling dragon has hoarded 'our world' weapons and equipment by the mountain and when it dies, it curses its hoard with 'you become what you steal'. Prompting a single small band of orcs, which steals some equipment to become 'orc-marines' to the core.
They end up changing their entire fantasy world into a fascilism of ours, but then with fantasy races, subverting every single trope into something with a modern twist. Think dwarf mechanized infantry in APC's, pegasus dive-bombers or halflings driving an armoured column.
(but in the end, world domination comes about in a rather unexpected way...)
I've always wanted to model this; could be a lot of fun, but at the time of my first reading, the only miniatures I knew were GW's, and most were metal to boot.
It strikes me that only recently, all the components have become available on the market to actually make this a reality!
The abundance of plastic kits of every variety out there will make kitbashing orc-marines or elf-GI's very easy. (and now I'm sorely temped too... lol ).

You should; it's a hilarious tale and I've re-read it many times. Although there are just as many detractors as there are fans. The author's humor is not for everyone, I suppose (but it clearly was for me ;) ).
My advice; stay with it till the end, as reading only a few chapters and then dropping it will not leave one with the complete experience (the tone and direction of the tale will slowly change until it becomes clear where the tale goes off to, but don't expect too much depth; it's just a straight up parody of fantasy, mixing all possible genre-tropes (and a great deal of scifi too) with modern day technology).

Not sure yet. Some sort of gang warfare.
Try to create some sort of story behind it that can lead to
a campaign style game. I found Shadowrun to complex for me.
I really couldn't follow history/timeline and what all the groups ect
were.

I searched for 'Orc Marines' just now, and came across some pictures of Wessex Games' Panzerfäuste miniatures, which might be useful for you too.
They're basically fantasy races in WW2 kit (http://www.wessexgames.co.uk/p/panzerfauste.html), which, in a pinch, could work for your purpose... :)

Thanks for the update. I do have a bunch of Panzerfauste and have looked at the RAFM. Nice figures.
I also have, on your recommendation, ordered Grunts. Like you said, it seems that people either love it
or hate it. I will give it a go and see what I think.

Just an idea - I used the Empire Militia bodies with Cadian arms holding lasguns.
In many cases I cut off the shoulder pads so the arms were just fabric. It wasn't as hard as I expected, I discovered.

Probably Ghost Archipelago plastic bodies would work as well (I am building some GA figures from the Empire Militia at the moment).

Just stumbled across this thread, have you seen the will Smith film bright? Posh elves ,orc gangs set in modern usa.

It's a Netflix Original, and as far as I know, so far only released on Netflix. It is a really fun movie though, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Think Colors, or End of Watch, meets Shadowrun, with the occasional typical Will Smith comic relief... ;)
