So what should a proper feral elf - ready for war - look like?
There's obviously Tolkien with his somewhat disconnected wood elf kingdoms, but I somehow imagine their appearance to be not too different from their cousins in Bruchtal.
Then there's the LOTR movies, and many classic fantasy publications, where they are presented as ranger types with pointy ears. Often hooded.
To me the old range from Citadel/GW came closest to an original, good looking and consistent presentation of a forrest / feral elves force. They had so much presence, an the fluff was of the kind that developes itself while playing. I have in fact re-collected many of the models to eventually build some sort of small war band. But even this range has grown old. The sculpting is just not up there with what can be done when releasing modern figurines.
So I sat down with Mike and started working on a range of feral elves. The first bits are ready, and I really like where this is going.
First concept, build on a range of dollies that was made.

Not sure how much detail I really want to add since the open spaces will allow for nice magical paintings or some serious woad.
More soon!

Lovely sculpt :)
The only thing I would suggest is some sort of torc around his neck (but not a torc obviously).
-
Very promising indeed. I think I agree with the idea of some jewelry.

We've been there, and it didn't work too well. :--(
-
I have been wanting feral elves forever, following what you have here :)
-
maybe a little more decoration on the torc and maybe an amulet so it doesn't look like a slave collar
-

Fair enough :)
-
I like it certainly looks like a more low tech feral elf.
I have to say my favourite feral type elves are the old Grenadier wood elves sculpted by Copplestone.
-
I use the Hordes Circle Orobos figures, Bloodtrackers, Tharns and Ravagers etc.
I don't like much from the PP ranges, but they do Feral Elves superbly.
-
I say leave the torc off.
It's easy for the end consumer to add one if you want to convert to add them, but removal is a nightmare if you don't want them.
-
Lovely sculpt :D
I look forward to seeing more.
-
Lovely sculpt, exactly what I was hoping for when you posted the first sketches online. How tall is this chap?
I’ve always been a big fan or the Jes Goodwin and Mark Copplestone figures (for Citadel and Grenadier respectively) but I do have a soft spot for Gary Morely’s wardancers.
I also prefer the version without the torc, I really like the distinct lack of metalwork; It means you could paint the arrow heads and spear tips as flint (elfshot) and make them truly feral or primative.
Thankyou for posting this preview here rather than just on facebook. I don’t have an account (and I have no desire the make one) so I can only read the comments if I borrow the other-half’s phone (if you post in a group I can’t see anything).

Ditto on being a lovely sculpt. Could be used for so many projects. Hopefully there will be females also.
No torc please. As per Loop , thanks for previewing off Facebook.
My only critique is he looks squat in the legs, not tall and lithe like expected of elves. If you look at the placement of the belly button and carry on down, his crotch would be just above his knees - hardly any thigh length.
looking forward to seeing more.

I think that's just an issue with the belly button being too low than the overall proportions being wrong.
That said, yes, he has "man proportions" rather than "elf proportions". I guess I don't mind? I all depends on what Schrumpfkopf intends, I suppose.

Thanks everybody for their interest and comments. I defo leave the torc off for now - I wil get the first mini cast up to play around with, and then I see where we go from there.
We have a few fun bits ready, but I think finding the right kind of jewelry will be very important, especially if we hit character models.
As for the bodies - yes, I think they would even work for humans. In my head elves were in general never fragile. Feral elves would be the fellas that have thick hemp ropes instead of muscles.
The minis are large 28mm (so in fact more like 30mm)
-
First one look like an elf slave. Very inspiring
-
I've been looking for dceent feral elves for a long time and these look like a decent start. The head seems a bit big though or maybe the overall proportions are a bit squat and dumpy as someone already pointed out. Also not a huge fan of the skirt, would look better with a loin cloth of some type I think.
-
This is what happens when sculptors have too much fun with dollies.
Haha.
-
Very 👍🏻

Bison Minotaur in the making - needs more fur feathers and bone tomahawks

Why not leave it generic bison an not too specific native american? Remember also in Europe we had bisons up until the dark ages, before they all got hunted and eaten.
-
Great minis! :-*
I like the smooth finish a lot. What do you use as sculpting material?
-
That bisotaur is great.

Liking this idea.

Yep, excellent point.
The Bull as you see it is the dolly we will use for the others. If people want undressed stuff than that's usually possible.
-
Europe still has Bison, btw :)
-
Superb sculpting :-*

The new elf dollies are a gift that keeps giving.

That's great!
-
I like that one very much. Were it not for the size, he'd be perfect for a project I have.

Are you going off 28mm?
-
I rather like the first one, so many possibilities feral elves/Martians /dino/lizard riders even sea elves using the new deepkin steeds :-*

This LW spin off really was only for fun - we will totally keep working on our ferals. :)
-

Well, I’ve gone to 60mm in a few threads on other boards on here, but here I was thinking of a project that involves small 28mm. :)

Nice Lone Wolf, I want one :D

I love these miniatures and your existing range. Too bad they're NEVER in stock on your webstore.... :(

+1.If they were, and if there was a white metal option, I’d be all over them. Shame because they’re right up my street ...

+1 Why is nothing in your store in stock?

2 things have gotten into the way of running a proper shop.
1. We need to sort our Kickstarter campaigns with priority. Promises have been made and we need to work on keeping them.
2. We can't match the demand. We are working on expanding the production capacities for more than 12 months now.
I am pretty sure that this effort will pay off in about 8 weeks, as we should by then have the capacity and the stock to sort
orders with a maximum delay of 3 weeks.
I also am a full time dad with a 13month old wrestling pro. :--)

Wielding 2 blades like the 80's never passed.

I believe Steven Spielberg is currently trying to convince us they haven't...

I hesitated to post because I don’t want to sound like a negative nancy but then I remembered that I thanked you for posting previews here as well as on FB, so I want give feedback in return.
I live the character, the drapery of the cloak looks fantastic, the dual wielding makes me nostalgic for classic wardancers it’s just... the pose. It’s a personal bugbear but I’ve never been a fan of the “shoot me!” pose. I appreciate that he’s probably invoking the gods to lead his tribe to glory but he’s also asking for a javelin to the sternum (probably followed by much goblinoid sniggering...).
Any idea as to when you might release him into the wild? Do you think it will be another Kickstarter?

No worries, any kind of feedback is appreciated!
And hah, I know what you mean - we used to call this arm stretch thing the 'eternal idiot' as it seems to be common amongst men of questionable heritage.

it however really fits with our pict / wood land indians approach - bloke standing on a hill top, taunting the enemy etc.
Really no clue when they come out - I want to take my time and get some painted and i need a few more anyway.

We are starting to toyaround with the cavalry.
I wanted the horses to be somewhere between the steroid types from GW, and more realistic ones we see in historical ranges, and I think it's spot on.

Nice armature diagrams below it as well :)

It's a lovely horse indeed.

Really like look of the cavalry.

Fabulous I am enjoying these a lot.

I noticed those as well. Are they of your own making or did you get them somewhere?

Thanks everybody :--)

They're Westfalia babies. I am planning for a crowd funding campaign by the end of July.
