Last Saturday, we played with Miltiades the Battle of Khambula

I'm getting repeatedly an error report, cannot continue, waiting for the administrator's help!

Indeed, we are still experiencing some teething troubles with the site move. The picture attachment system doesn't appear to be working. Hopefully the boffins will get it sorted soon. In the mean time, those desperate to post images right now might have to look in to alternative solutions, such as hosting their pics on an external site, or using the LAF Gallery function (which I believe is no longer exclusively for the use of supporting members, but I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me on that).

Thank you for your prompt answer!

Hello guys,
for those who still want to see some pics from the game, I have posted about 30 pics on on facebook; just visit the page: "Colonial wargaming" It was a tough battle but a brilliant victory for the redcoats :D... Long Live the Queen
-
Dinos, give it another try. I am informed by the boffins that the attachment function is now working again. Hopefully Flashy here will corroborate that for me...

hip hip hurraaah !

Thank you! It works! I promise to post the rest tomorrow!
I thank also the tech people who worked on the issue!
Cheers for the new LAF! Hurrah for the old one! LAF forever!!!

So, now we may continue...
At the start, the British have 58 figures total, Zulus 180 figs total.
Zulus are coming in impis of 20 each.
Victory conditions: The British must destroy 15o Zulu figs for the game to end.
They win if they lose up to 20 figs.
The initial British troop positions
-
The Zulu Right Horn enter the fray!
3 Zulu impis attack the main British kraal. The guns, (not shown) send the third impi reeling back, the other two impis keep throwing themselves on the entrenched British, taking casualties, falling back and attacking again... Only a few Zulu figures manage to penetrate, but they are soon neutralized. The redcoats have two or three figures as casualties.
-
Successful dicing brings the Zulu Left Horn in the game!
The impis forming the chest, attack the British entrenched in the cattle corral! One of them is heading to the main entrenchments while the defenders are already engaged with Right Horn Zulu elements!
-
The cannons in the open, frantically firing at the Right Horn!
The impetus of the Left Horn is overwhelming and the Cattle Kraal defenders are forced to retreat!
-
The soldiers of the Main Kraal sigh with relief, as all Right Horn Zulus are gone!
....
...and run quickly to man the other side, as the Left Horn is coming quickly!
-
The Bull's Chest!
Now, after a successful dicing, it is the turn of men on the fortified hill to see the wild charge of the Bull's Chest!
The hill is encircled from three sides!
-
The Heat of the Battle!
-
Zulus attacking from all directions!
The company defending the Hill, receive some casualties, but do not flinch from their position!
Zulus attack with mania in successive waves, but the cannon is mowing down scores!
The defenders of the Main Kraal manage to resist, but the Cattle Kraal cannot be held!
-
The guns are overrun!
A Zulu impi from the Chest, went past the hill, rushing for the cannons in the open, while they were occupied with other targets!
Before they manage to turn, the one cannon (one model representing two real cannons) is already overrun and their crew lost!
The other crew are running for their lives!
-
Meanwhile, the Cattle Kraal defenders...
...manage to fall back towards the main British entrenchments, constantly taking casualties...
-
The final stages of the battle
The Hill defenders triumphant!
-
The remains of the Right Horn have regrouped and emerge again!
-
...but the Zulu war machine is out of steam...
The British have enough figures to organize a mounted sortie!
At this moment, Miltiades the umpire, declared the game as a good British win!
The British had lost exactly 20 figures (18 soldiers and 2 gunners).
Victoria Cross award to the British player was postponed, as it was raining and we had not time to celebrate the glory of the Empire at the local cafe pub sitting outside and enjoying some mezedes and a couple of good tsipouro shots ;D
-
Thanks for the fantastic report DintheDin ! You commanded the troops skillfully and managed to defeat the enemy with the minimum casualties. I don't know about the Victorian Cross but you will be promoted to Brigadier General... [the only damage was that we lost the drinks and the delicacies -you cant have everything]

I am honored about the promotion, I would be extremely glad if this would be accompanied by a wage rise lol
For the other issue, I propose next week to skip the wargame segment and jump straight to the drinking part lol
For the game now:
I would like to thank you for bringing all your stuff so that we could play such an enjoyable game...
Congrats also for the scenario design, it was well-balanced, so it was a narrow British win, just on the knife's edge!

Are those the Esci 1/72 plastics? I think I recognize some of those poses. Old friends, those guys. Nice to see them again.
-
1/72 ESCI. Yes, indeed, at least most of them.
Miltiades has used some few from other makes, he knows better.
If well painted, they have not much to be jealous from their 28mm counterparts.
Thanks once more for your quick reply on the pic posting issue! Cheers!

Agreed, they look a fine body of men. :)
-
Brilliant report! Very stirring stuff! I’ll have to get started on my 28mm Perry project. This was the exact battle I was thinking of. Thanks for the great report.
-
You are welcome! Good luck to your project!
-
Super battle report.
British and Zulus were the first colonial figures I starting painting back in 1978.

nice thanks for sharing
