Well, we have some good news and some bad news, guys. The good news is that the boffins have beavered away and fixed the problem with interior links on LAF. The links are all fine now. The bad news is that this thread has been hit pretty had by L' Affaire Photobucket and by the ravages of time in general. There are lots of links to reports that no longer have images, mostly due to the Photobucketery, but also because of other sites no longer existing.
I've colour-coded the duff ones as you can see, so we don't waste people's time.
I haven't helped matters in that I have not kept the list up to date. I had a couple of periods when I entirely lost interest in the hobby and almost dropped out of LAF altogether, only hanging around to do the moderating out of a sense of comradeship with the site and the friends I have made on it. During that time I failed to keep this part of Colonial running, and I'm sorry about that. I'm probably never going to post as many threads of my work as I used to, but I don't think I'm going to be dropping out any time soon (unless Mr. Eyre has other ideas!).
We're at a point now where we really need to discuss whether this page is worth keeping. I'm happy to throw that open to discussion here, but here's my plan:
I really don't have the time to go back and find all the reports that never made it on to here, and I may still struggle in keeping up with the new ones, so I am going to appeal to the membership to help out. This thread will no longer be locked, instead you can post links to your reports here, past and present, and once a week I will sit down and add them to the list. The posts will then be deleted, to keep this a nice clean reference rather than a discussion thread (so once this new system is up and running only make posts here that you don't mind losing - they won't be sticking around). Also, if you are the owner of a dead link or a report without pictures and you fix that, I can amend the list to show that it has been fixed.
So that's what I want to do, but I'm open to your ideas. What shall we do about the wonky reports? Leave them on the list or get rid of them? Get rid of this whole thread or keep it? I'm happy to leave this open to discussion here for a while, and when that seems to have run its course I shall move it to its own thread, to keep this one clean (if we decide to keep it at all).
So what do you think? Should we keep this thread or has its time passed?
-
I would have said that the page had passed its sell by date but with the demise of the ability to filter the thread by originator this seems to be the only way to find inspirational pages from the past. Thus I vote to keep it. Hopefully the original owners will re-link their photos in due course.
-
Should we add Colonial games that never featured?
-
Certainly. That's the idea. If you have or know of old reports that never originally made it, by all means post the links here and I'll add them to the list.
-
I would like to see the membership add posts with links.
A great up date it would be.
Also set a date for broke, non photos posts.
If the link is not updated with photos by then, delete.

I agree. The Colonial board has had some of the finest reports on the Forum, so keep it.
-
+1 here. The Colonial board's AARs drew me to LAF in the first place. Please keep them.
-
Well, I just went to Photobucket's horrible, slow, pop-up laden site, and it is resisting me even trying to retrieve my own photos. I think I shall simply delete my own links. I really can't be bothered with it if they are going to make things so difficult. Not for multiple reports each with multiple pictures. Having Photobucket even open seems to be making all my tabs run oddly, including LAF.
-
I like the idea of setting a deadline for the removal of dead links and threads with no pictures. What do we think is a reasonable time-frame for that? A couple of months, maybe?

I can add the following links to my Blog

I can add the following links to my Blog...
Done!

Around 2 to 3 months I think would be about right to delete all the broken links.
Pick a date, say May 31st.
-
Seems reasonable. May 31st it is.
Let it be so. Selah!
-
Well I found the pics for two of my reports on a memory stick, so the first repairs to the list are done!
Edit: Have given the discussion its own thread, as we were on to a second page. I'll keep it as a sticky for now, but once we're done talking I'll let if drift away.

Hi,
I would like to add threads I'm aware of: mine and these of friend Miltiades (too lazy to do the job :-[ ) - fortunately, as far as I have checked, all of them are Photobotched-it free and working.

That is all for the moment, I hope anybody revisiting them will find something interesting.
I would like to add my voice for updating a colonial links catalogue, I have found many interesting and inspirational jobs.
Thank you for your attention and good luck to your efforts!

Cool! I'll get on to it later today, Dinos (gotta do some work right now).
-
Done!
(Though I did leave a couple of them out because they weren't actually battle reports. We have to be a bit strict and keep it focused on actual battles, otherwise we'll have to list every thread there!)

You are 100% right! I was absentminded, two of them were not battle reports ::)
Thank you once again!

Well, as of today, May 24th, it seems that the Photobucket picture links are working again. So I'm going to suspend the May 31st deletion deadline and adopt a wait-and-see approach. There's no point in deleting links that are currently working.
Here's hoping this change of heart is permanent.
Edit: Hmmm. Seems we still have some broken links and pictureless reports, but they are ones not connected to Photobucket. I think the deadline should stand for those.

If I may:

Done. :)
Right then. Photobucket appears to be holding nicely and any pictures we lost due to the LAF server move seem to be back now too, so I have been able to remove the scary red warning text from a lot of the formerly picture-less links. That just leaves a few stragglers that need sorting out (including some from James on the WAB forum, which unfortunately appears to have entirely vanished).
I think we've had plenty of time to fix our links (several months) and any that haven't been done already probably are never going to be. Therefore I'm going to give it one more week and then delete the links that aren't working or have no pictures. So the final, final deadline (and we mean it this time) is next Sunday, the 5th of August. At some point on that day, I'll be removing the broken links. If you really want to save your report, you'd better get moving. Cheers!

I've recently posted links to two reports on my blog, but neglected to include them here. Both are Darkest Africa Congo games.

Sorted.
Sorry for the delay, I've been a bit poorly. :)

Great additions by Eric the Shed. Well met!

Fantastic looking games! I love the termite mounds! Fantastic AARs too!
