I'm looking for some flock / static grass that would be appropriate to represent stubble fields.
Ones that I could place straw stacks (like the ones in the pic from Grandmanner) and patches of un-cut grass or wheat (door matt fields) on. For terrain boards.
I'm guessing I'll just want some sort of wheat-coloured flock, but wondered if anyone has any other clever ideas or could point me in the direction of some good brands?

How much do you need? I've got a load of pale yellowy (with a hint of green) flock I bought for something or other and never got round to using. It's yours if you want it.

That won't work I'm afraid, as I need it to be flat - it will be on a terrain board, which will be stored with another board on top. And I don't want it to disrupt placing figures either.
What got me to thinking of doing this was figure placement actually - I wanted some corn fields, and have seen the simple door matt approach work REALLY well... but I can't bring myself to have figures sitting on top of it, magically hovering above the corn!!! But those resin hay-stacks made me think - a field in the process of being harvested could be a great feature. As well as the stacks there could be patches of uncut wheat (small pieces of door matt) - if a unit is standing in one of the small patches they can just be easily re-arranged or removed.

That's very kind! I'm not actually planning to do this right now, so don't need it yet... but then again it never hurts to have stocked up in advance. Do you have any pic of it, or a link to the product itself?
Just done a little google search... these images show the scene I'll be going for! But in a medieval setting.

Looking at them now, I guess I could use some long straw-coloured static grass for the crop lying on the ground before it's been raked together into stacks - it's fair to imagine the farmers running off with the job half done when they find an armed confrontation taking place on their land!

Guess I should have a look through his blog.... Looks like some good stuff.
But I'll definitely want a specific area of stubble on the terrain board itself, which the stacks, patches of wheat and field boundaries can be placed on. Something that will also work WITHOUT these features as bare ground / empty fields. I want to avoid obvious terrain bases for the stacks and wheat patches, and don't want them sitting on green fields.

I've used straw-coloured bristles cut up and glued on thickly - looks like a cut wheat field.

I will second Silver Whistle's method of simulating the stubble, I used it for my wheat field in my KPW game at Historicon and a lot of people asked where I got the idea.

Sisal rope cut in the required length and unwound. Would be a cheaper option than a brush I think. Also you can use the Sisal for making wire trees.

Here is my take on it. I used the moss sheet from garden centre as mentioned above. Added a bit of loose moss and then gave it a dry brush.

Love Sabot's scarecrow! Cool.
For OP: Take fake fur, an electric hair trimmer, and 'buzz' cut the fir close to the backing cloth - but not too close. Leave chunks in place as you like and clear 'paths' where you want for either paths or a patch of hay bales.
And don't forget you can spray paint fake fur for a lot of different looks other than what comes off of the store shelf.
