Hi Everyone.
When the Prof passed LAF to me, one of my first thoughts was to do a special miniature.
I work with Mark Copplestone, one of this forums favourite designers, so I spoke to him about it and he was keen to do it. We thought something with a Pulp theme would suit LAF, and so we are proud to present the International Adventurer!
He'll be available to buy next Monday (19th March 2018).
Next Monday morning, we'll do a prize draw and randomly choose 10 LAF members and they'll get a free model of the International Adventurer. We'll PM you asking for your postal address. After the draw, the figure will be available to buy as normal through the secret page.
Cheers
Nick Eyre
PS It is of course 28mm, and made of metal.

Kev Dallimore is painting him up now, so we'll have a painted picture to show you soon.
-
I'm in, I need one of these! :-*
-
Brilliant idea!
-
Not only is this a great idea, but that's a brilliant version - really appropriate!
Many thanks for arranging this Nick.
-
Copplestonesness at its best :-*
-
Squeeee lol lol lol
-
Someone from Malta in the lead at last ;) :D
-
Wargmes Foundry have a version of that character in their League of Exceptional Gentlemen set (DA012). The pose is slightly different, but it's otherwise very similar, presumably due to it being by the same sculptor.

I may be getting shockingly old, forgetful and generally useless at understanding, but I don't understand... Can I ask for some clarification?
How are the 10 members being chosen? Is it just 10 random members from the list, or are there any selection criteria? Is the draw an 'opt in' thing? If so, how do we opt in?
If it's random, I can foresee a situation where 10 people are chosen but because they don't come to the forums any more (or have, you know, died in the last 10 years) the figures are unclaimed.
Then again, is there a time-limit on claiming them? If not redeemed in 48 hours (or whatever) does the mini go back into the pot?
Any elucidation on these burning questions will be most appreciated (or alternatively, someone kindly pointing me to where it's all explained would also be lovely)!
(Though at 2 quid if I don't win one I'm going to buy it anyway, obviously!)
-
I'm choosing 10 winners randomly from the member list. Mods and Admins are not included.
They'll be PM'd straight away asking for a postal address. I'll also ask them to post on this thread if they want to.
What if they don't reply? First I'll email them. As long as the email is active, the prize figure will remain theirs to claim whenever they want. I think it'll be unfair to put it 'back in the mix'. The exception is if they reply to say they don't want the figure. I understand if you play 10mm Ancients, a 28mm Pulp figure is not top of your wish list. In which case I will do a new draw.
Cheers
Nick

Sounds good to me...it's my birthday on Tuesday so if you are feeling generous.....
-
lol
Oh, it's birthday this year too so...
Gorgeous mini by the way.
-
Thank you for another fantastic Mark Copplestone miniature.
Cheers
Alex
-
He ain’t a 15mm dwarf, but he sure as hell looks cool! :)
-
Just my cup 'o tea. Great pulp figure.
-
Nice one, looking forward to get it.
-
Strappin' fella'!
Nice touch with the draw.
-
Neeeed!
-
Perhaps you could mark interested in some new Back of Beyond stuff but this figure looks great.
-
Nifty figure. And I am overdue for an order with Northstar anyway...

-
Thank You Nick, very nice gesture!
also, very nice from Mark that he finally complements the Rasputin special figure
-
Excellent sculpt, will go well with one of my Congo columns 8)
-
I think he looks lovely, although part of me wants to insist he needs a hair cut. I think I may be turning into my mother. :-[
-
Very nice figure, just what I need to captain a steamer around the islands of Morvalonesia!
-
Very nice indeed !!! Just wanted to order but says out of stock?!
-
just brilliant. Indeed perfect to go with the Rasputin fig.
I'll just need to track down the Corto Maltese tarot deck too now. ;D
-
It's not available to buy yet, I just wanted to make the prize draw first. I'll be doing that this morning.
I'll PM the 10 lucky winners, then make it available to buy.
Nick
-
ok thanks
-
Nice mini, not too specific on clothing so very flexible with regards to periods it can be used in.
-
The draw has been made.
I'll be PMing the winners for their postal addresses over the next 10 minutes.
If they want to boast about being winners, they can here of course, but I won't list them.
Later this afternoon I'll make the figure available to buy.
-
TBH I would much rather Mark released more Barbarica packs.
-
Well he isn't.
-
MWHAHAHAHAHA!!
You poor unfortunate foooools! I managed to rig the draw by making thousands of extra fake ID's.
The last thing I won was a 'Mr Tight-Buns' contest, and that was only because I was wearing my medical support underwear.
-
As you can see, at least one winner has made his victory known.
You can order the miniature here:
http://www.northstarfigures.com/enter_code.php (http://www.northstarfigures.com/enter_code.php)
You need to type in LAFFIN to get to the page. You will not see the page normally, it's a secret page for Lead Adventure Members, you need to follow the link each time.
You can of course add the miniature to any other order from North Star & associated companies.
I appreciate the postage on one figure is a trifle steep, if you want to organise collection from a show or North Star stockist, I'm sure we can come up with something. I will be a Salute for example on the Osprey stand, but you'd have to let me know before hand you're coming. I'll also be at Historicon, same deal, see me on the Brigade Games stand.
Cheers
Nick
-
Just ordered some
So happy about this mini:)
THANK YOU
Florian
-
Wow - I'm delighted to have been selected at random to be a winner - anyone who knows me will testify to my pedigree of random ;)
Great figure & looking forward to getting him painted :)
-
Yaaay! I actually won something! Someone remind me who is supposed to be again. I haven’t read Corto Maltese.
Nick can I order a few other things and have him thrown in with them?
Cheers
Steve
-
Yes, I'll make a note to look out for your order and we'll add the figure.
-
just ordered three of them
-
Needed some Copplestone stuff so added 2 to my order. One for me and one as a gift to another LAFer.

Sure me & Andy can find a bit of room for some on the Ainsty stand at shows Nick 8)
-
It can't go on general sale Dags, it's a LAF exclusive, but if LAF members want to get them from you at a show, we can co-ordinate it.
Nick
-
Well I just ordered mine, lets see how long it takes to get here.

Nick
That's what I meant, just worded it badly. In defence it was stupid am in the morning :)
In short, if we can help we will 8)
-
Hurrah!
-
Well he isn't.
Thanks for letting us know. Saves continuing to buy into a range that won't be completed.
-
It's still a beautiful range. But I doubt we'll see anything more for it. We've ran Copplestone Castings for a couple of years now and there hasn't been any new 15mm from Mark in this time. His next range is actually going to be 28mm Darkest Africa, but I won't say any more till the first figures come through.
-
While this is undoubtedly sad news for many, and I feel sorry for those people, this makes me very, very, very happy.
(Unless the range consists of things I have already spent painstaking hours converting with head-swaps and Greenstuff, in which case I shall be very, very, very annoyed. lol)
-
Oh my ...

No, it's brand new. No one has done the range he's planning before. (Tell a lie, might have done one or two of the figures, but not the range).
-
That's what I meant. There's plenty of stuff that nobody has done ranges of but that I've cobbled together anyway. I spent ages putting Copplestone tropical helmet heads on Great War Miniatures early war bodies, only for Gripping Beast to release that exact uniform combination a few months later. It makes one go "Grrr!!! Why did I waste my time with that?"
I just hope that kind of thing doesn't happen again, as I've just done a bunch of Darkest Africa converting. :)
-
Just discovered I'm one of the lucky ten, thanks Nick looking forward to receiving the mini, it looks great.
Must be one of the few times in my life that I have won anything.
Don
-
Ordered! I've three versions of this fellow now, but this is the best.
-
A very nice miniature indeed! Another to add to my 'buy soon' pile (I'm trying not to buy any miniatures now until I've dented my pile... Salute is going to probably ruin that though)
-
Apparently I'm a winner! I saw this thread but hadn't replied... so I was very surprised. Guess it's my lucky day, thank you :D

lol
A very long time ago I spent ages cutting and modifying heads from 1/72 ESCI French napoleonic cavalry (I don't even remember which) and fixing them on ESCI Polish lancers to make some more units of Line Lancers... Which I still have somewhere although they have only see 2 or 3 battles since.
Back to topic, I'll order this mini for sure. Thanks Nick (and Mark!) for this wonderful idea.

I know the Foundy one, but what is the 3rd? ???
EDIT:
Ah, Statuesque, of course!

Statuesque/Pulp Alley ;)
-
Kev Dallimore is on it. Here's his painted version of the International Adventurer.
-
Ooo, now that is nice :-*
I don't want to paint mine anymore lol
-
Order just sent and paid for. :)
-
Beautiful mini! Will be ordering today. I am very much looking forward to pairing this guy with a sly Russian also done by Mark.

Got my figures in the post the other day . Haven't started painting yet but have done a conversion on one of the figures to use it for warhammer 40000.

What do you think?
-
is the figure sold out? the link is not working

Don't think it is anything to do with the mini. For me the whole North Star site is refusing to load at the moment.
-
Northstar site is experiencing gremlins today and they're trying to sort them out.
-
thank you
-
The mini is now offered as a freebie for orders over €75 at Decors Miniatures.
-
Site was down this afternoon, the server had problems but it's back up and running now.
Argonor, what do you mean?
-
Argonor, what do you mean?
Earlier today, I got a post in my FB-feed with a picture of the painted mini, stating that orders of €75 or more (I think it was) would be accompanied by a free Corto Maltese mini.
I cannot find it now, so maybe it was taken down/regretted, I just noted it because it seemed odd to me. I am pretty sure it was from Décors Miniatures, but, of course I now get in doubt, as I cannot conjure up the message, again.
-
It was Decors. We asked him to remove it. The International Adventurer is an offer for you guys, it's not for other companies.

OK, makes sense, then, I am not completely senile, yet lol

Here's mine :)

Anyone have a spare of Rasputin or know where I can get one?
-
Don't have a spare, but you can get him from Stoessi's Heroes in Germany or Great Escape Games in the UK.
I'm afraid I don't know who if anyone sells him on your side of the lake.
-
Stoessi's is indeed the place to go at the moment. The figure was sculpted by Mark Copplestone for our - now dead - RCW and BoB themed "convention".
-
Heh... Very nice figure. Loads of character from one of my favorite sculptors. Thanks.
-
Just out of interest, I remembered I already did the original 'not-Corto' miniature Mark did for Foundry Darkest Africa...
I guess these two figures are more or less 20 years apart... He's still got it :)

Lovely stuff - never imagined him with striped trousers but it works a treat. For some reason I’m getting a bit of a Prisoner vibe from him.
Funnily enough I have here two sat side by side on the shelf right now. If anything I prefer the new version.
-
Remember folks, it's Salute next Saturday and you can get a LAF International Adventurer from me on the Osprey Games stand, but I'll only be taking to order, there won't be any stock there.

Here is my take on the adventurer for two different settings:

amazing stuff!
-
Just ordered my guy now - thanks for keeping this as a sticky!
-
I just ordered the Pulp Alley Solo Deck, so I shall soon be getting this guy, too (probably along with some African animals for my Paleo Diet in the Jungle project), as I intend to do some PA both on my own and with my daughters, and the Maltese sailor is a perfect main character for solo gaming. :-*

Beautiful paint job Capt Blood

I have quite recently discovered that I have interest in "darkest Africa" and adding Cor...ahm..."International Adventurer" to my next North Star order would be nice.
