I'm sure this has been asked before and apologies for asking again but I'd like to know what Foundry colour/triad would work best for German greatcoats and helmets?
Also, what sort of grey for vehicles when in a winter environment? A fairly broad question I know and apologies for that.
Just Foundry suggestions please (being slightly colour blind Foundry works best for me).
cheers
James

At the risk of sounding contrary, try the Vallejo Panzer Aces range. They’re probably about as accurate as these things get and as an aid to your impairment, they are labelled as to what they are, including where appropriate the RAL and RLM codes. A number of them are set up with base colour and highlights although I don’t believe that’s the case with their Field Grey.

Hi James.
Foundry Storm Green triad works best for me, and I use it on all sorts of things besides German uniforms.

Helmets were actually green (I'm sure you know this) and depend a bit on the period. Early war they were a colour referred to as 'Apple Green'. You can make a good impression of this by ising the Storm Green triad but starting with the 'B' middle tone, and using white to added to the highlight to make it a bit lighter for the highlight. Alternatively you could use the Moss Green triad for a bit more contrast and saturation.
For later war helmets do the opposite - add black to the Storm Green shade to make it darker and work up so the middle tone is your highlight.
Storm Green works for uniforms too btw, and you can vary by how much you highlight etc.

Cheer Keith, that's spot on :)
Lovely figure also 8)

Whatever paints you use .....that figure is astounding! Character and movement aplenty!

Many different paints will work

Brilliant picture, but no one ever mentions that those jackets aren't all from the same period :-)
... but yes, almost anything will do. Ironically Vallejo Russian Uniform works well.

And apparently Vallejo English Uniform Brown.

The one that doesn’t work quite so well is German Uniform. It’s designed to be used for the reed green summer work uniform. It does however make the ideal colour for pre-war Czech state police uniforms.

Definitely for the '44 pattern, less so for earlier. Late war German dyes also store particularly badly so even the greens can turn brown over time.
'44 pattern was modelled on British Battledress, to a degree including the colour.

Perfectly valid observation Keith. Although I might add, that anyone with just a passing interest in WW2 German uniforms will see the differences in cut and style.

Heh, indeed. I just see it posted lots in Bolt Action Fb groups as an excuse to use anything and my eye start twitching (clearly an OCD problem) :D

True. But those are also the gamers who field their Fallschirmjäger mounted in Sd.Kfz 250/ 51‘s ::)

You're gonna hate what I've got planned then lol

For my mid-war germans I use a simple mixture of Vallejo 880 KHAKI GREY + BLACK + IVORY - more black for shadows and more ivory for highlights. Not Keith's detail but I'm happy with the color:
