Title: Old Citadel Viking Archer
Post by: Cubs on April 04, 2018, 01:21:02 PM
Thought you might like to see this wee fella I painted up for myself over the Easter weekend. I have an on-again, off-again project of Isle of Man raiders, with an eclectic mix of Gripping Beast metals, Gripping Beast plastics, Redbox Games Njorns and some old Citadel fellas like this one (as well as a couple of one-off mins from here and there).

He's one of those classic figures that stand the test of time I reckon.

By the way, in case you're wondering, the bowstring is a plastic bristle from a dustpan and brush set. The plastic bristles split easily into sections of fibres and this is the bristle split down the middle. They are easy to glue in place and easy to cut, plus they naturally want to sit straight.

Great tip!  I've taken a shot at string but quickly gave up.  Your approach would be MUCH easier.  Thanks for that.

You have made that minitaure look fantastic. I especially like the battle damage on the sword scabbard and the long-flowing moustache. Great job.

Really nice work, I particularly love the chainmail shirt and no pants look. Daring.  8)

One would hope underwear was worn, because just the thought of the alternative has me wincing ...

I've had good results with plain old nylon/cotton thread (the stuff you sew buttons back on with), but you do have to keep the tension on. This might be a handy alternative, not to mention an upside next time the dog murders the dustpan brush.
