The campaign has now Funded and can be found' here:

Some of you may remember that last year's Build Something Competition had the subject of 'Flight' as a guideline for entries and I built a 'Parawing' for it from brass plate.
The thread for that particular build is here:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=96742.0
It eventually ended up with a master casting of the build which looked like this...

I also built the 'pilot' for the Parawing, which began life like this...
....and ended up like this....
When they were cast up in metal I ended up with metal masters (including the 'hanging' attachment that held the pilot in place) looking like this....
Not bad, but it could have been more useful all round if I had gone down a different route.
So, bearing this in mind, I asked Andy at Ainsty to cast up the master in resin, which has made it much lighter, and worked on a variant which would allow the riders to stand on top of the 'wing' and ride it more like a board.
This would be much more useful, so I sculpted some more 'pilots' to stand on top of the boards and ride them rather than hang beneath them.
I now have all of the components back and the result is a much better design which may be useful in a whole bunch of settings.
Once the paint has dried I will take some pictures and post the results here.
;)

Glad you got this sorted 8)

That's really cool, Paul! 8)
I'm getting an instant Barsoom vibe off of this. Is it intended for such a setting?

Cheers.
I have had the 'wings' for quite a while now, but only got the masters cast up for the riders recently.
Other things kept getting in the way.

Cheers, mate.
They have deliberately made none too genre specific so that they can be as versatile as possible.
The riders that I have made for them are fitting for my Outlanders sci-fi setting, but they could certainly be used in a VSF/Barsoom setting easily enough.
:)
Here are some of the 'wings' painted up...

Reminds me of "Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind" Paul, very cool.

Thanks, chaps.
The new 'riders' will be on top of the 'wings' but not quite like that, Matt.
Here is a couple of pics of the first three 'riders' painted up to compliment my SpecForce Rangers.....

They have since been attached to their 'rides' and bases made.
I should get pictures up in the next couple of days.
;)

Tasty indeed :)

Thanks, Suber.
I am glad that someone likes them.
:)

The wings are great - I can envisage them in a range of settings - perhaps herding great plains beasts, or maybe employed by sky pirates!

That was certainly the intention as I see them being able to be used in a variety of other genres as well, Pulp and VSF/Steampunk for instance as well as sci-fi.
Paint the riders differently and they could easily be Sky Pirates....

...or even like this, as who says Sky Pirates cant wear olive?

Very nice work Paul :-* :-* :-*

I have received confirmation from Kickstarter that the project has permission to 'Launch', therefore the Skyriders! will be going 'live' this afternoon at 3PM UK time.
So, if you can see a use for some Skyriders and their craft in your life, there is the opportunity to rectify that later.
:D

I shall post a link to the campaign when it has launched.

We have now Funded and three new 'Riders' have been added to the campaign.
The new additions are from the People of the Sands faction who make ideal Skyriders as they already wear breathing apparatus and eye protection, so the speed that a 'Wing' can reach will not affect them, neither will the inevitable dust when riding the dunes where they reside.
(https://ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/020/973/543/059b7b47eb75dc5918f49921bfd4da9c_original.jpg?w=680&fit=max&v=1524395621&auto=format&q=92&s=65675e5fd35928b21e2ac8e32f056bfc)
They will have their slotted tabs removed and pegs affixed to their feet instead.
There has also been a change to the Pledge levels, enlarging the 'Skyrider Gang' level from five to six 'Wings' and 'Riders' to make it possible to Back for all six options currently available in one Pledge level.

The Parawing Glider.....
An optional Add-On is being made available during the final 48 hours of the campaign: The Parawing Glider will be available at the price of £10 per 'Wing' and 'Pilot'.
Please take note: It is available as an 'Add-On' only and is not an alternate 'Rider' option!
The Parawing Glider features a different configuration which enables the 'Pilot' to hang underneath the 'Wing' itself and achieve a much higher altitude.
This kit comes in three pieces: the 'wing', the 'pilot' and the harness section which holds the pilot in place.

The pictured 'wing' is a metal master casting. The 'wing' that you will receive will be a resin version.
The pilot and harness pieces will be cast in metal......
