I'm starting this thread to keep all my sci-fi projects in one place, these will range from Deadzone to Core Space to Doctor Who and everything in between.
To start off with I have just finished up my Enforcers for Deadzone who'll also be the cornerstone of a full Warpath army when combined with my first gen Enforcers.
There are more individual pictures over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.co.uk/2018/04/deadzonewarpath-enforcers.html
Next up I'm finishing up my Vanguard miniatures from Sedition Wars.
-
Nice brushwork :-*
-
Cheers, the paint scheme was "borrowed" from War Machine (Iron Man) ;)
-
That's a great looking army. I also commend your commitment. I backed sedition wars and deadzone and my interest in both lasted about a month which is why I no longer back big box of miniatures kickstarters.
-
Nice pjs there. The Iron Man War Machine scheme works. Those are the first Enforcers I really like.
-
Cheers guys, it must be said working your way through the big box games from Kickstarter can be daunting (it's taken me years to get these done) but there's a certain satisfaction once you have a nice looking force in front of you.
Speaking of Sedition Wars I just finished up the remaining Vanguard soldiers I had to paint, these are painted up differently to my others so they can be used as an elite unit.
Again more images and blurb on my blog:

Next up are some Old Crow vehicles for them.
-
I've just finished up these Old Crow Vehicles for use with my Vanguard force from Sedition Wars, more waffle and images over on my blog:

-
Nice job.
They remind me of the Zeroid tanks (but in a good way).
-
Nice work. I like those Sedition wars figs. I wouldn't have thought of blue and red but it has a really cool COBRA vibe to it and looks great.
I painted up 3 sets of these a while back (not as nice as yours though) and found them to be good looking and easy painting figs at a price that's well worth the hassles in assembly.

-
Thanks guys,
The reason why I love the SW minis so much is because of how flexible they are, they've seen action in Doctor Who for the most part but I'll be using them in Deadzone/Warpath along with Core Space when that lands, Starfall and perhaps even 40k!
-
A couple of characters now finished up from the Sedition Wars range, as usual more words and images over on my blog:

The Sedition Wars miniatures got a nice table top outing last night thanks to a game of Starfall, which I've written up on my blog:

-
Such a great game and review of Starfall, Giger! Your models and terrain and looking fantastic, as always, and it's an honor to see the game played on such a beautiful board with dynamic figures. Excited to see more (especially now that all the campaign materials are out). Keep us posted!
-
Interesting play through. Thanks.
-
Cool terrain and I love the upclose & personal look of the small board.
Will have to check those rules out.
-
I've finished up the last two characters for the Vanguard and tried a couple of new techniques on them, more on this and using my new light box over on my blog:

-
These are pretty nice, I like that OSL a lot.
-
Lovely shading on the medic (my favourite mini out of the sedition wars range!), and really convincing skin tone too. I like the OSL on the bigger chap. Nice work!
-
Cheers guys,
I'm on to my next (unplanned, more about that on my blog) project now, Star Wars Rebels.
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2018/05/star-wars-new-project.html
These days I'm posting day to day work in progress photos up on Instagram so if that interests you the link is https://www.instagram.com/crucium.giger/

Finished doing my test Stormtrooper, the white takes some patience but pays off. I'm using Instar's Arctic White and it hands down the best white I've used for coverage and that was watered down slightly, I was tempted to leave them at the post wash stage (on the left) for a dirtier look but I just couldn't do it so will be going with a nice gloss for these.
-
Nice work! 8)
It’d be nice to see the guy with the red OSL photographed on a dark background! I think we’d get to appreciate him a lot more.
-

Cheers Andy, I've got a black background to try out so will give it a go when it's next out.
-
Though it took a bit of patience, I finished working on the white for the Stormtroopers this morning.
Normally a job like this would have driven me nuts but I actually found it rather satisfying.
-
They look really nice.
-
Some good painting on here 8)
Consider yourself followed on Insta as well :)
-
Are these figures Imperial assault or legion?
Very nice work on the white , I am struggling to paint my IA storm troopers at the moment
-
Cheers chaps :)

These are the Imperial Assault Stormtroopers and I followed Sorastro's youtube guide for painting them (spray white, paint all black parts dark gray, wash black and then build the white back up). It must be said that the Arctic White from Instar has been superb for doing these, great coverage even when thinned down.
As I'm posting here's a quick update, Stormtroopers highlighted/bases prepped and Imperial Sentry Droids started (loved these guys in Rebels).
-
The Stormtroopers have been finished so here's a quick photo of them, I will get one in the photo tent in the next week but as I'm still playing around with that to get the best results I thought this would do for now. In the mean time I've nearly finished the Sentry Droids so more on them soon.
-
Very nice.
-
Thanks
A quick update; the Sentry Droids are nearly done (just basing to finish off) and the AT-DP is now well on the way (just weathering it up this morning, first proper use of Typhus Corrosion - great stuff).
-
Brill :D
-
I finished off my Imperial Forces for now along with Maul, more images etc. over on my blog:
https://www.instagram.com/crucium.giger/
I've had to go back to using shoe box lids to take photos as the light box just wasn't working for me, more likely due to the fact that my camera is pretty old now so I use my phone camera instead but the results are decent (it struggles with single miniatures mainly).

Love the fire eater/juggler type bloke. I could imagine him as a street performer in Covent Garden !
-
Rebel scum.. ahem... I mean Troopers have been on the table this last week, nearly finished them now (just a quick table top job for these).
-
Awesome as always! Excited to see everything in play with the Star Breach ruleset! *secretly cheers for Galatic Empire/Dark Path*
-
Awesome as always! Excited to see everything in play with the Star Breach ruleset! *secretly cheers for Galatic Empire/Dark Path*
Thanks, a few more characters for the Rebels and we'll be ready to rock.
Finished off the Troopers now and begun work on a Wookie grenadier.
-
Finished off the Troopers now and begun work on a Wookie grenadier.
I really like this fig.
Is it all standard? Any conversion?
The only thing I dont like us the leg pouches. Not as a whole, just that they are on the inside of his thighs. Remove the inner thigh pouches and be golden.
Grimm
-
These are all just stock Imperial Assault minis and I know what you mean about the pouches but I wanted to do as little work on these as possible (besides the painting) as they come pre-assembled and are made of a slightly rubbery PVC (I think).
Bit more progress from this morning, just the basing to finish off and a blast of matt varnish.
-
The Wookie is done, now on to the other Rebel characters from Heart Of The Empire.
-
Funny enough Giger, now that I look at the Wookie in the face he reminds me of MJF Teen Wolf.
Is it just me folks?
But which set of this fig from?
Grimm
-
It's that smile :) and he's from the Heart Of The Empire set.
Speaking of which I've nearly finished off Jarrod Kelvin from that set and started work on Ko-Tun Feralo.
-
Fantastic work as always! Stoked to see these two sets in battle for Star Breach! The models are just perfect.
-
Oh, really sweet! Pretty nice work.
-
Thanks guys,
Well I've finished off Ko-Tun Feralo and blasted through good ol' Chop (love this guy). I also have a new camera, which is far superior to my old camera phone so I'll need to re-take some photos from here to show off the minis a bit better however it doesn't half show of the faults lol luckily they aren't generally seen when looked at normally.
-
Lovely thread. :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks
I finished off Chop this morning and got started on Hera Syndulla, can't wait till I have the rest of Phoenix Squad later this year.
-
Good start....
:)
Maybe this is for you:
https://www.shapeways.com/product/8KB83HDNQ/legion-the-ghost-crew?optionId=65909811
But be warned working with shapeway models is often challenging.
Clean up, printlines, priming etc.
-
Cheers Agis, I had spotted those but I think I'll wait for the Tyrants of Lothal expansion and packs rather than have to deal with shapeways minis.
-
Finished up Hera Syndulla over the weekend
-
Nice. :-* :-*
-
I've been cracking on with last four miniatures I have for Star Wars at the moment, the Clawdite Shapeshifters, I actually managed to get the flesh done one these along with a quick highlight on the grey and a wash this morning so I should be able to finish them off tomorrow. For the colour scheme I'm basically following Zam Wesell's costume but changing the colour up to add variety.
It's likely these will see action as members of the Crimson Dawn under Maul, which is how I'm grouping the Scum and Villainy miniatures.
-
Dead exciting update today... crates!
Seriously though, they will be a nice bit of Star Wars scatter terrain.
-
Clawdite Shapeshifters are finished, just a quick tabletop job on these (I wasn't going to paint them until watching Solo) which I'm happy with and in the background the crates are just getting their shiny coating.
I'm going to test my new camera next and try to get some decent photo of all the Star Wars minis.
-
After finishing Hera Syndulla I've come to the end of the first wave of Star Wars minis I have to paint, so I've taken some new photos of all the miniatures with my new camera (it still needs to be worked on but I think the image quality has improved) which are now up on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2018/08/star-wars-wave-1-completed.html
-
With Stars Wars finished (for now) it's time to move on to the next project. After having another run of 40k in recent weeks I came to the conclusion that I needed more Orks in my army to get the most out of them, so off to eBay I went and managed to bag quite a nice lot of 2nd Ed Orks for very little.
Other than being very dusty they were in good condition and the paint jobs will act as a decent undercoat, though I'll be painting them to match the rest of my plastic Goffs so they'll have a distinctly old school look to them. The first work in progress picture is below, all the metals are being redone, the red getting a shade and a highlight and the same for the skin.
-
Nice orks.
-
That's pure 2nd Edition love :-*
-
That's pure 2nd Edition love :-*
I agree.
-
Cheers guys
More work on the Orks is done, the picture is a little dark though so some detail is lost (that red is very red - blood red highlighted with flaming orange) but the weapons, red and black all done. Just need to highlight the skin with good old Goblin Green and then pick a symbol to paint on their backs (oh and the basing to match the rest of the army).
-
Skin, teef an' nailz dun
-
More 2nd Ed Orks more being refurbished and in the background you can just see a glimpse of one of the first batch of five which are finished now and I'll take a snap of tonight.
As much as I've enjoyed painting these Orks I'm glad this will be the last ten (I've got 36 now), though I did manage to pick up three plastic warbikes at the weekend from The Other Partizan but they need minimal work to bring them in to line with the rest of the army.
-
The first five Boyz are now finished and you can see some more pics and a bit more wittering from me over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2018/08/warhammer-40k-orks-orks-orks-orks.html
-
Just a couple of quick and dirty photos to show some progress. I finished off another ten Goff Boyz along with a repaint of ten Gretchin to match in with my existing bunch and moved on to some Bad Moon Mega Nobz which I'm enjoying painting. As usual the paint scheme on these has remained as it was I've just brought it in to line with the rest of my army.
-
Ooooohhh, these classics never get old! :-*
-
Finished off the Nobz in Mega Armour, love these sculpts.
-
I usually look at the 2nd ed stuff and hate them, or find them hilarious.
BUT these mega armoured nobz are actually brilliant. Id have to maybe get one for myself if i can find one haha, very nicely painted too :D
-
Brings back memories.
Nice work.
-
Cheers chaps,
Here's a work in progress shot of a Mech Boy I'm refurbing with a shot of how he started off (after I did an arm swap to give him some more close combat clout).
-
I've taken some pretty snaps (well reasonably so) of all the recently completed Orks and if you'd like to read me waffle on about them some more you can head over to me blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2018/09/warhammer-40k-ork-mech-boy-mega-nobz.html
-
Excellent work. While I wasn't huge on the plastics, 2nd ed. was the last time I liked Ork miniatures. So much character/uniqueness to them.
-
Cheers, I think there's a certain charm to the plastics but this may well be due to nostalgia.
-
Bit of a change of pace for this one, my cousin (and main opponent) asked me to paint up a banner for his Black Omega Space Marines. It was my first time painting up a sculpted banner like this but I think it has turned out alright, I ran with the Babylon 5 influence from their name. He just needs to apply an Omega transfer to the centre and it will be done.
-
A quick WIP post for another restoration paint job, a Mech Boy with Shokk Attack Gun. The Mech Boy is basically complete now with just a few details to do but the gun is so far untouched, I'm looking to get him done over the weekend so I'll hopefully have some finished shots soon.
-
I've finished the Mek Boy however he's just had a layer of varnish so a bit to shiny for a photo right now so I'll get one done at the weekend however every Shokk Attack Gun needs ammo so he's some Snotlings I've just finished. Nothing fancy at all, mainly just used washes to bring them up to scratch and then did the bases to match the rest of the force, fun little guys though (no use in 8th Ed but look nice set next to the Mek).
-
My favorite Ork gun ever
Very nice snotlings
-
Cheers,
More reburb work on my Orks, this time a work in progress of three Bikers. The second photo shows how they were when I bought them (very cheap at a wargames show, totally an impulse buy).
-
Cool! I don't recall seeing them in blue, they look nice!
-
Cheers Suber, the fuel tanks on them were blue so I just went with that :D
The last few pieces for the army are done now which means that's all for the Orks!
Next up I'll be heading to the dark side for some Chaos Marine action.
If you'd like to see more pictures or read a bit more about them please check out my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2018/10/warhammer-40k-orks-finished-warbikes.html
-
RED ONES GO FASTER!
Excellent stuff - lovely vivid colors on these guys, with just the right amount of "pop".
-
With the Orks finished it's time to move on to a much anticipated project, my Chaos Space Marines.
I've had these stashed away for some years so the first thing to do was get them all out and see what exactly I collected over the years. Then came my favourite part of the hobby, building lots of toy soldiers :D, first up were the Terminators and I've made a start on what will be the Chosen (formerly Bile's Enhanced Warriors).
-
The building of the Chaos Marines has ran apace since my last post and I'm just getting on to undercoating them in batches now.
Lots more images of the builds over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2018/11/new-project-chaos-space-marine-armies.html
-
I see you have some of the metal 2nd generation noise marines there. I have some of those that I painted way back and never got around to repainting them when the newer stuff came out circa 2002. They are my next 40K project after I finish off 4 more Primaris marines for my Crimson Fists.
-
I see you have some of the metal 2nd generation noise marines there.
They are some of the first minis which caught my eye when getting into the hobby initially, still love the sculpts today.
Just a small amount of progress happened over the festive period but I managed to get some base coating done. As usual more waffle from me on my blog:

It's been a while since I've posted but I've been cracking on with Blackstone Fortress and just finished up all the minion miniatures. A selection of snaps here but more pictures over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2019/03/blackstone-fortress-minions.html
-
Excellent, that's a solid body of work.
-
Really interesting work, I love what you did here.
-
Cheers!
I've now finished up the explorers from Blackstone Fortress, lots more picture up on my blog as usual.
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2019/05/blackstone-fortress-explorers.html (https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2019/05/blackstone-fortress-explorers.html)
-
Very cool!
They’re a great set of figures and you’ve done a great job on them. I do love that navigator figure and the Ratlings.
-
Lovely work on some fantastic models. You pick up the "Dreaded Ambull" for Blackstone as well? A lovely model, although I think I still prefer the original. The robotic imitations in Necromunda are mad genius at its best.
-

Espern is one of my favourites too, there's a certain Dune vibe to him.

I do have the Ambull, it will be up after the Chaos Space Marines.
-
What an enjoyable group of adventurers :-*
-
Time for the "Big Nasty", Obsidius Mallex and his Bodyguards. Really enjoyed working on the big fella, more images and words from me over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2019/05/blackstone-fortress-obsidius-mallex-and.html

Nice restrained painting.
-
Thanks,
Last up for Blackstone Fortress is the Dreaded Ambull, more pictures over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2019/06/blackstone-fortress-dreaded-ambull.html
-
That looks nice, although I still think I prefer the original sculpt. It's got more of the "guy in monster costume" vibe to it.
Looking forward to the big expansion that's coming out? I'm hoping BF sees more long-term support than Silver Tower did.
-

The original does have a certain charm about it.
Yes and no with the expansion, yes for playing and no due to the paint queue as I'm moving on to painting Core Space next.
-
Love the Ambull, the blue-black and red combo is very nice.
-
Nice job, I like the sculpt myself. You can clearly see the origins but I lije the new direction.
What about the expansion? Is it worth it beyond the Ambull?
Looking forward to seeing your pjs on the core space stuff, I was sorely temted by that KS but resisred in ghe end.
What do you think of the quality of the core space figs? Are they worth picking up? And is the game any good?
-
The expansion gives you another quest (like a stronghold run basically) but it also allows to to integrate the Ambull into standard games so I'd say it's pretty decent (and the fact you can use them in 40k as well).
The Core Space minis are really solid for PVC and I'm more than happy with them but I wasn't expecting resin level quality. Though I haven't play the game myself (not until the minis are painted) I've seen and enough to know it's a belter, a great sandbox game.
-
I prefer the classic ambull, but you did a hell of a job on the new one!
-
I've been playing with the new contrast paints from GW on the newly arrived Core Space minis from Battle Systems, more images and words over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2019/07/core-space-purge-and-contrast-paints.html
-
Well one thing I'll say about the Contrast paints is that they're sure helping me blast through the painting at the moment. Another massive wave of Core Space miniatures completed and the three remaining trader crews are actually finished and just need photographing.
More images and words over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2019/08/core-space-security-galactic-corps.html

Looking good.
Played the game yet?

Not yet, just popping out all the terrain at the moment.

Cheers, it's been nice getting away from my usual dark colour schemes and go with a cyberpunk feel.

The last three crews for Core Space painted up, more pictures over on my blog:

They look really good. Nice variation in colours, good definition. Love them.
-
Good solid painting, congrats on getting it all done.
-
They look really good. Nice variation in colours, good definition. Love them.
Thanks, I really wanted to try out each of the contrast paints which meant a lot of variety in the miniatures.
-
I don't know how you use them, but they work really well over a zenithal primed miniature (so first black and then with white from above). This really adds a lot of shading and...contrast to the final colours.
-
Great job on the core space minis. I’m a fan of the battle system terrain and been on the fence about their minis. What did you prime them with? How do the scale to other manufacturers?
Thanks for posting all the eye candy.
-

Thanks for posting all the eye candy.
I primed them with the new GW greyseer and there about the same scale as Imperial Assault
-
I have to admit your work painting those Core Space minis helped convince me to take the plunge. Thanks for the inspiration!

You're welcome and enjoy (it's a great game system).
-
It's been a while but I haven't actually completed and new paint jobs (just cleaning up and building a mountain of Chaos Space Marines) but I did finish off my old school Ork Stompa at the end of last year, as usual more words and images over on my blog:
https://cruciumgiger.blogspot.com/2020/02/warhammer-40k-ork-stompa.html
-
Nice Stompa!
