Wow! What a game! :-*
-
Thanks chaps. All credit for the game should go to James (whose idea and much of the scenery it was) Sam and Mike (who provided lots of soldiers)..

Any idea where the carpet was from?
-
The fleece mat?
I think James just bought it from a local fabric shop.
He then added some paint and even glued on some sand he collected from the Hill 107 in Crete.
Just for that extra touch of authenticity.

I was going to do a Crete project a while back, seeing this layout makes me want. To do it, thanks for the mat info

WOW! What a table!
:-* :-*

Cheers all; it was a great day out, exhausting as ever, and the weather was perfect for the 77th anniversary of the battle.
The cloth is, as Tom says, just a fleece cloth bought from the market, with some splatter and spray painting, plus flock and sand patches. We created the Tavronitis river bed by raising up the tables on either side, giving us a flat valley in the middle. The whole set up fits in the back of a car.t

You did an excellent presentation! Congrats!
I keep revisiting the pics on the blog!

And now I have ordered the new Crusader Partisans to add to my Gorgon ones! lol
-
How did the game itself play out?
-
How big is it?
From the pictures, it looks huge - about 8 metres x 2 metres (24ft x 6ft), but I am not sure if that is an illusion.

Great looking table.
Love it.

Yep...you’re not the only one. Looks like some of those will work for Crete, perhaps with some head swaps.

5 x 15’ or thereabouts.

Thank-you

How did the game itself play out?
Very well, thank you. We played two Chain of Command scenarios based on the events of May 20th. The Germans successfully stormed the RAF camp in the first one (though with some serious resistance from the New Zealanders. In the afternoon we did the counterattack with the Matildas, which ground to a halt after the Matildas broke down. A pretty historical result.
