Title: Getting into By Fire & Sword 5 part video series
Post by: Anatoli on May 26, 2018, 06:28:49 PM
I'm doing a series of videos for one of my favorite games, By Fire & Sword, mainly aimed at new gamers who may be interested in getting into the game.

Part 1 covers the various rulebooks and what tools you need to play the game. Next part will cover the army building aspects.

A lot more By Fire & Sword content can also be read over at my blog with over 140 entries under the tag "By Fire & Sword" http://anatolisgameroom.blogspot.se/search/label/By%20Fire%20and%20Sword

These are great news, Anatoli! I'm glad very you decided to do this. I've been interested in this game for a quite a few years now, so to have a new video series explaining the rules is definitely of great help. I'll make sure to check out your Youtube channel. Cheers! :D

yeah, what about 28mm figs but use 15mm basing?

I actually have the book lol  and it's the best looking rulebook ever. The background material alone is worth the price, until I got the book  I had no interest in the period or especially the location.  :)

The rules are in centimeters and written for 15mm scale, I think you could do them in 28mm, but you would need to measure everything in inches to make it reasonable. However that would also impact the scenarios in that objectives etc would require more table space which can be difficult to create on a 6x4' table.

I mean, the rules and how you play will work for 28mm without problem, the game does not care about miniature size as long as you increase the movement and shooting ranges. But scenarios will be the biggest challange to reverse engineer to 28mm, imo.

Great start. Looking forward to the next video.

We have played BFAS alot the last couple of years and really like it. Only problem is, that we alway gets tactical victories. Never anything more spectacular.

Cheers

Thank you for the kind words guys, really nice to hear and always serves as motivation to keep my blog going despite work putting a dent into my hobby time.

Second part of my series teaching you the historical wargame "By Fire & Sword". In part two I talk about how the army lists work on a skirmish and division level. I also take a quick look at the online army building tool.

Part 3 of my video series about the historical wargame By Fire & Sword. In part 3 I give you a general overview of the rules and the command, movement and combat phase. There are also some examples of game play situations and how combat is resolved.

I had a lot of trouble with this video, my camera messed up a large chunk in the middle of my material so I had to do what I could with the beginning and the end of my shooting session. I think this part could have been a bit better, but I hope to fix that in upcoming parts.

Many of the special rules will be explained in the next part where I talk about the different unit types and equipment rules.

As always, feel free to ask questions and give comments, I may include answers to those in future parts of this series.

Really interesting, I am going to take a proper look at these. I have small Polish amy and Cossack army in 28mm built for my Great Northern War project, might be useful to have another use for them.

Hey Anatoli
Thank you for some great videos. I especially liked the last one where you discussed the scenarios and how victory was achiaved. We are two players who always use the same armies againt each other and we always get tactical victories or draws. Based on your last video, I think I will try and convince some of the guys at the club to join in as well. Many of them have 15 mm. TYW armies based for Field of Glory which will work just as well in BFAS. I gather that more players will mean more difference in the results and many armies are based en reiters, dragoons and musketeers, so they wont have to be Swedes all of them.

No proper Dane would like to play the Swedes anyway  ;)

Cheers
Erik
