Title: Gale Force 9 - Aliens Board Game
Post by: cdm on June 04, 2018, 07:56:57 AM
Apparently Gale Force Nine announced quite some time ago they were releasing an Aliens board game. Figures are apparently 28mm - ish. The Aliens look a little out of proportions, but some may enjoy the marines particularly. Due September.

Here's a couple images I culled from random web searches.

Very interesting as I wonder whats going on with the license  o_o

They look less fragile than the Prodos ones though.

I found it very hard to find much solid information on this without trawling news posts, aside from a comment that all the marines are in the set, including the ones not pictured such as Vasquez, Gorman, Ferro etc.

I was also surprised about the licencing, good on them for getting it done. I'd still love to see 54mm and 4" Aliens ranges to go with the old Halcyon APC model kit, and my 3.75" Star Wars collection. I'd expect to see 3d print models instead some day.

Interesting, hope my missing stuff from Prodos will come.

It really bugs me that Prodos have not sorted out all the backers they shafted :( I don't hold out any hope you for though.

I caved in the end and bought some from a local B&M store to go with Star Wars - Legion figures, though the Prodos preference of building aliens squirming through scenics is bothering me alot, the new queen most of all. The core box set is fantastic value for $, even if the queen/king etc are ridiculously overpriced items to my eyes.

GF9 have a good record with licensed games. Usually they are pretty solid and fun (albeit unspectactular) a track record with sci fi too. Firefly and Star Trek Ascendancy are both good games.

the real bad thing ist, that they build new figures like Predator elders and Alien Fathers, but do not produced the promised stuff. I wait for clear Predators, which are never released until now. I hope Fox will not extend the licence to prodos and a serious company will get the licence. After getting a part of my pledge I had hope, but now I am very disappointed...

Prodos are a terrible company.

This looks okay, anyone found a decent pointer as to the size of the minis?

I Hope the rules are better than the Prodos rules.

I pre-ordered the Firefly Brigands and Browncoats game which was well produced, quite entertaining and captured the them quite well and, as a bonus, the Little Fish really like it.

All-in-all it was pretty good value. The only real downsides were that the base game came with only four scenarios and the opponents were all 'goon' level (so no 'bosses'). Most co-op games would have at least a dozen scenarios in the base set so I feel this specific aspect of the game was particularly underdone.

Based on my experiences, I'd be open to ordering an Aliensgame as I'd be condifent of the general quality of the product.

I have no idea what is going on with this licence but I'm ecstatic that prodos have lost their deceitful sordid grip on it.

Only pity is the minis look a bit sketchy, but I look forward to seeing cleaner images.

Prodos has the AVP license...this seems to be an Aliens license. I guess they're not the same.

This game keeps getting pushed back (mid to late summer 2019 as of right now), but I'm interested for sure, depending on the rules and the quality/scale of the figures.

Prodos announced their license for AvP is finished after April.  It's too bad they mishandled the game so much and never delivered some of the stretch goals from their Kickstarter. Some of their early figures were quite pretty, if a little fragile and fiddly.

Thats one explanation, another could be seperate licences for wargames and board games.

Prodos lost the AvP license as Fox has been acquired by Disney.
I for one am rather sad to see the Prodos figures discontinued as I think they are absolutely lovely. The GF9 minis look pretty average so far but hopefully they will be a bit better when the time comes. I do hope GF9 will be successful enough to justify the release of additional figures at some stage. It’s a great IP and it would be a shame not to have a game for it  8)

I can only agree , the miniature quality of the Prodos AvP sculpts was great.
The KS was however very badly handled...
So I can understand  some bad feelings.

Personally I'm always concerned when I see GF9 linked to property, as they always seem to miss their deadlines.

I'm basing my experience on their handling of the Dr Who Time of the Daleks game.

Immediately prior to release, GF9 decided to lower the number of Doctors from 6 to 4 and reduced the price. The 2 missing Doctors were supposed to be released as an expansion that still hasn't materialised (pun intended). 2 years on, we're still awaiting the oft promised expansions.
