Title: 15 mm Centurion
Post by: gamer Mac on June 05, 2018, 11:50:58 AM
Got some tanks for my 15 mm AK 47 Republic project
Got a couple centurions from QRF
Not great models, a lot of flash and various bits damaged during transport
Anyway the package has a bit in it that I don't know what it is, help?

At a guess, it's kinda like the thing sometimes attached to the rear of the hull that cables are attached to.

I'll admit, it is an odd shape, but Voltan may be correct in calling it a tow bar - many British vehicles had one constructed from leaf springs & put between the hard towing points, used for pulling trailers (& in the Centurions case, a fuel bowser, given that they were quite thirsty.
Here's a pick of the Duxford one, it's not exactly the same, but I can't think what else it could be (are  there any attachment points on the rear of the model?).

Thanks for the effort guys, still no closer,
I am starting to think it maybe a spare bit of the suspension
It has a similar shape but not the same detail
May just leave it off

can you take a picture of the rear and of the QRF model?  I think I know what it is... but I need confirmation...

If I am right it must be the rear support to hold the towing cables while not in use. But I need to see what the back of the model has...

I think Arrigo and folk are right for my money, it's meant to be the cable roller, although it seems a bit oversized. If it is it goes on the hull rear in the centre, 'triangle point' uppermost.

A search on Google Images for 'Centurion Tank Rear' should give some views of them in situ. Or there's a few good photos here; http://anzacsteel.hobbyvista.com/Armoured%20Vehicles/centurionph_1.htm

Edit: Here's the Centurion from the Aussie War Memorial, it's got one on the back of the external fuel tank... which I can't say I've seen done before; https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C244338?image=2

No guys, thanks for the input though, but the piece I have looks nothing like any of the pictures
It can't be that important so I am just going to leave it off
