In order to clarify this rather basic question, having enquired about the game on the Weird Wars forum, specifically regarding comparisons with Achtung Cthulhu! I've become tempted to try it, and have only just become aware of this sub-forum, which would seem to be the ideal place to enquire about how to get hold of the rules. Thus far, while skimming the forum, the source evades me.
(Canada rings a vague bell, which does not bode well. I'm in the UK.)
P.S. If anyone says Kickstarter, may the Hounds of Tindalos rend your living flesh for eternity....

Check online for the Sentry Box, in Calgary and see if they have it. That's where I bought mine, and they do mail order.

You can buy pdf copies of the rules directly via the Strange Aeons shop: http://www.strange-aeons.ca/umw-shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=15&zenid=ef3dc033099f01bee847de6eb4df86e5
While not a 'proper' book it's better than nothing.

They have rulebooks in stock. Email orders@sentrybox.com and ask for details.

Thank you to both - now three - respondents. I have just emailed the Sentry Box as suggested. (Their catalogue has been removed).
Unfortunately a PDF is worse than useless to me - print, I must have print!
-
Reply from the Sentry Box - the core rulebook is not in stock.
-
The Sentry Box has made enquiries with Uncle Mike, who has confirmed that the rule book is out of print.
-
Andrew, I found a someone that has copies for sale. I've PM'd you the details.
-
Thank you, Mr Moose. I have taken action.
-
Sterling Moose, I'm interested in the rules too. Pm or email me please.
thanks

I have a copy of the rules which I'm willing to sell (along with the expansion "Morbid Adventures").
DJ
edit: oops 1st edition I think (third printing 2011)

Yep, sounds like 1st Edition
-
(Note) So... the rules for first edition are not bad. In a lot of ways they are a little less overwhelming and more than enough to get you started. The second edition rulebook is "complete" on the other hand.
But 1st will get you into the game and playing quick.
I think it's a fairly comprehensive ruleset that preserves the feel of Lovecraft. Not many rulesets do...

Any further news on where to get a hardcopy?

Lee VanShaik has copies, about 10 at the last count, he runs Crucible Crush and although they are not shown on his website they are available if you contact him directly. Be warned though, they are not cheap, IIRC they are CDN$60 plus postage.

Just an Update, I picked up a copy from Crucible Crush for $45 CDN. Not sure if they have more copies. :D
