Title: Making 28mm neck ruffs
Post by: Hat Guy on June 08, 2018, 12:50:25 AM
Getting into Age of Sigmar with the new edition, going to play Ghouls as they fit my play-style. So I'm thinking for my ghouls of adding flourishes to highlight the fact that they think of themselves as "nobility" in the fluff.

Any idea how I could make Elizabethan neck ruffs easily?

Any suggestions not involving sculpting are preferred as I'm lacking some fine motor function in my hands due to an injury. I don't need to make too many, a half dozen would be heaps.

I'd take a look at the hardware store to see if these are available in small sizes, witht the central hole the same diameter as the neck.

Corrugated/ fluted beads or bead caps might work if the toothed washer thingies end up a bit too sharp edged.

Just in case you can't find anything premade that's close/good enough looking - two tutorials for sculpting the ruffs:

Are these figures ones where you have to glue the heads on? If so it's fine, but if not then how are you going to get that thing over the head and on to the neck?

What about using paper and then varnishing it? Perhaps you could use ready corrugated paper cut down into thin strips? I'm sure I have seen some renaissance zombie miniatures somewhere recently- could be a quicker option? Perhaps your existing Zombies could be wear livery to denote their noble status?

Make a Green Stuff donut, then cut out 'v' sections from the top and bottom?

Lego makes a neck ruff in both white and black - might work.  You can find them for sale by various vendors who list on BrickOwl:

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll have a bit of an experiment then report back.

Yes, the minis have separate heads with a recessed join that fits onto the neck.
