I recently purchased one of the above from Colonel Bill's site and am almost finished assembling it. I was going to paint it in wood colours but I wondered if the German in their efficient Teutonic manner, painted their wagons in a uniform colour e.g. Panzer Grey or a similar colour to match in with their armour and transport. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Horse colours probably started off as matched within teams & mostly blacks or bays, but as losses mounted any old nag could be drafted in.

Several years ago I recall an original (ww1) german wagon for sale, retaining its original FIELD GREY finish. Though I couldn't find a link to that wagon, here is an artillery limber which gives the same idea:http://www.lovettartillery.com/10.5cm_leichte_Feld_Haubitze_Limber.html (http://www.lovettartillery.com/10.5cm_leichte_Feld_Haubitze_Limber.html)
