I'm too the point of painting cavalry for my Battle of Almanza project and I have to decide on the number of figures per base? I can't make up my mind so I'm throwing it out there, what do you think? 2 or 3 per base? I also painted up some Commanders for the French and Spanish.

I like the look of 3 on a base for the cavalry troopers, but 2 mounted officers on the command bases... ;)

I agree. For formed units of cavalry 3 on a base looks good, 2would be too sparse.

Depends on the base size, surely? I mount my 28mm cavalry two to a 40mm square base, and they don't look sparse.
Two to a 50mm base would probably fit better with big modern figures, but having standardised on 40mm square years ago, I'm not changing now.

On the blog, he details that he is looking at 30mm square bases, and 10mm figures.

I second this choice.
For the commanders' bases you may use two mounted figures of course.
By the way, I like how you painted your commanders!
Wish you a good continuation! Cheers!

3 on a base for me, just looks right in my opinion, great work on the command figures too!! :)

I have no mind of my own ….. so I will agree with 3 horse per base, to maintain a good aesthetic density.
2 per base could be saved for light cavalry / scouts if appropriate and leaders.

The trend seems to be 3 per base. So that is what I will go with. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

If your rules don't specify then here's what I do. I play HOTT, DBN and DBA-HX so this works for me with all three rule sets.
Heavy Horse - Cuirassiers, Pistoliers, etc. 4 per base
Cavalry - Dragoons, Horse who charged in mass at the gallop 3 per base
Light Horse - Skirmishers, Hussars, Chasseurs, Cossacks, Carbineers
I also base all of my mounted figures on 40 x 30 MM bases
My two cents and hope it is helpful.
