Title: Akira - Rooftop PV panels -page 23

Time to re-start my Japanese anime/manga project after the Photo*@%?# debacle  lol

As some of you my remember I began a project based on a near future version of Japan. The idea is to have a small but incredibly cluttered board that looks like a modern/near future version of a large city in Japan. At the moment the plan is for 900mm x 900mm but I've had a few recent thoughts on how it can be expanded (but more on those thoughts later).

I'm still sorting through my photos but for starters here are the figures for the Neo-Tokyo Police force. I've based the uniform loosely on the current Japanese police and the vehicles have the current colour scheme (obviously there are no walkers etc in reality  :D )

Figure factions will be small, five to ten figures a side but there will be a fair amount of tech per side. Rules, as of yet, still to be decided.

First unit of the second riot platoon and their officer, Sargent Kabusami.

The unit needs some transport so they've got a simple 'SWAT' van. It needs decals but at least the lights work  ;)

Then there is the unit support in the form of a tactical walker; TSW for short.

And finally for now is the unit air support.

That'll do it for now, I've got a couple of other gangs on the go that'll get posted in due course along with the buildings and extras that have been done so far.

cheers

Nice to see you back at this mate! How are you getting on with your board side of things?(he asks in hope of being able to steal ideas! ;))

Are you going to put any of your old pictures on here? Your old thread was one of the best sources of inspiration on this forum!

Excellent,

You back on board with this project.

Akira, is still one of my favourite's. Always fancied building the bike.( twenty years ago I made a stamp mould for the wheels but never got any further)

Have you managed to find the bikes in 28mm?.As remember your buildings and the lighting . But I don't recall seeing the bikes.

One more question  :D Is The 'chopper' one of the card ones from Laser Cut Card?

Sorting through the old photos and will post them periodically until I'm ready to start making again (currently away on hols). I'll stick a screen grab up of the board development tomorrow probably as I@ll have done a bit more on it.

I've got a couple of the Void bikes but I'm drawing up some sci-fi bikes to print and eventually sell. The chopper is from Antenocities and I think it's oop (along with the walker).

So, had a play around with the original layout and added some bits here and there (notably the monorail and the Akira style sewer/drain). So it's gone up to 1200mm x 1200mm but can still be smaller (I've only got one expressway section complete at the moment).

Any questions, just ask. I'll be posting actual model pictures later in the week  :)

The whole set-up looks perfectly like downtown Tokyo! :o But is the highway bit not a slightly oppressive? Are you planning on playing most of your games on top of the road?

Are you taking inspiration from Ghost In The Shell for your river/sewer section?

One last question....(I feel like Columbo here!).....is the yellow see-through building going to be all glass?

Potentially the board can be widened with additional, thin road sections (say 100mm wide) to increase the distance between it and the buildings although there area over here that are like that.

That and Akira. It would be nice (but probably impractical) to have a massive tube/pipe section that acts as a board edge but we'll see how it goes.

One last question....(I feel like Columbo here!).....is the yellow see-through building going to be all glass?

The three walls to the front and sides have windows in them and the lift/stairs are supposed to be in the more solid area to the rear. I've got a few floors of this done already but hit a stumbling block lighting it and having removable floors, hopefully the electrics book I've bought recently will help with that.

Absolutely awesome and a real inspiration as well! 8)

Potentially the board can be widened with additional, thin road sections (say 100mm wide) to increase the distance between it and the buildings although there area over here that are like that.

I had the same question as Andy; how playable would the table be between the buildings, under the elevated roads? One thing that would come to mind is this; metal sheeting onder the road surface, with magnetized bases for the minis, so they will remain where they are, as you remove the road sections to acces the miniatures underneath...

The three walls to the front and sides have windows in them and the lift/stairs are supposed to be in the more solid area to the rear. I've got a few floors of this done already but hit a stumbling block lighting it and having removable floors, hopefully the electrics book I've bought recently will help with that.

Years ago, I had this crazy idea to make a completely lit, modular urban table, using 2"x2' sections, that would slot together on each side with dowels, but also with a universal plug on each side (male and female next to eachother in a standard pattern, but with both connected to the same wires) to connect all the sections to the power source. I still have not abandoned the idea; it's still brewing, and one day, given the opportunity, I will build it.

Plus would be on the X-axis, minus on the Y-axis. But with a small bit of clever electronics in each section that can switch polarity to accomodate the LED polarity in the section, so the sections could be rotated in any way and still be connected the right way. the only thing to do then is to connect each outside section on the X-Axis to its neighbour in an S pattern (first two rows connected on the left, second and third rows connected on the right, etc), and the same goes for the Y-Axis.

This means all sections can be powerd by one source, and can be completely modular. I was also planning on adding power connectors on the surface (i.e. female connectors, flush with the surface) for buildings, street lights and vehicles, which would all have a corresponding male connector on the bottom. I was thinking 3.5mm jack-plugs for this.

I hope the above rambling is understandable. I've had this idea in my head all this time, and never put anything down on paper, even though I discussed the electronic feasibility with an electronics expert, and he assured me it would be completely possible.

But to illustrate what I'm talking about at least a little bit, here's a 2 minute, manually created Paint drawing that hopefully clarifies what I have been talking about... :D

This was my thinking as well. I need to do a bit more research into it before taking the plunge and your ramblings make perfect sense  :)

Just remember, if you take this anywhere, you are going to need severe battery packs or a generator to power this board! I’m half expecting the monorail to work! lol

If you put that on a table you can have the big lift leading to Akira at a lower level besides the table... :D

Cheers fellas  :)

Each building will/has its own power supply in the form of a detacheable battery pack and all the buildings are accessible from underneath. Each 300 x 300 board will have a battery pack as well. I don’t think I’ll need mains power, just a rather large supply of batteries  lol

I’m fortunate that Maplin were doing a ridiculous sale before they closed down as I managed to stock up on plenty of supplies for this.

The Akira lift is a good idea but the thought of it not really being practiced is putting me off.

One ridiculous thought I did have was to build part of a stadium for a table edge but knowing that I’m a bit of an anal scale retard it would be too big  lol

Next up will be the flats and office blocks that have been started either later today or tomorrow  :)

For interboard connections it might be worth looking at how model railway boards are connected.

There are a large number of books and online sources on that topic eg http://www.modelbuildings.org/lighting-model-buildings.html http://www.model-railroad-infoguy.com/modular.html https://www.nmra.org/beginner/wiring

IIRC there are proprietary systems allowing 'plug and play' connectivity for modular boards.

It’s a pill and there probably is a meaning behind it but I’d be damned if I can remember  lol

So, the first block of flats. This was done a long time ago (and it’s still not finished  lol) so here are a few pictures to help refresh your memories.

It’s all laser cut and there was an idea to have interior access. This might not be the case now as I prefer the idea of having plans next to the table instead of faffing around mid game.

A simple spray job with weathering and the lining of the panels (I used a gundam pen and it’s perfect for this job).

The vast majority of flats here have little shops for the ground floor and so this is no different. It’ll be lit as well as having a detailed interior (more for the look than practicality). I’ve got plans for many different shop types so there’ll be no shortage of ground floor detail. There are still some areas that need light blocking but I’ve got some sticky backed steel tape for that.

All the buildings will have realistic details such as fans, cables etc and here is a start on this one, plenty to go though. There will also be a wide selection of street furniture, lampposts included although the idea has changed from free standing ones to ones that’ll plug into holes in the base to allow them to be lit. Pavement s are prt of the baseboards as well on which more later.

And finally there’s the roof clutter. Fortunately there are many easier expressways and rooftop ‘gardens’ in Japan from which these can be seen and photographed. Going to keep the clutter to a minimum as figures will be able to gain access to the roofscape.

Still plenty to do on this one alone but there are more to show which I’ll post up next  :)

Lasered acrylic.

So, into the next build (that of course isn’t finished yet). It’s an office block but I started to build it before the general layout/arrangement was decided so I’ll have to do a special board for it (more on the boards at a later date).

It’s relatively square in plan with the front three quarters as office space and the back as the lift, stores, stairs etc.

And of course, there’s lighting involved. Simple led strip lights on the ceiling, which might get covered over at a later date with a simple lasered ceiling plate.

As mentioned I think I’ll show the boards progress along with the subway station.

So, next off is a start of the roof clutter that is synonymous with Japan (and the whole of Asia really). The bill boards are just printed from google images and the actual structure is mainly lasered supports with microstrip struts. The bill boards have been weathered a bit (but in reality they are kept fairly clean) to be in keeping with the dystopian look I'm going for.

The water tower, of which there are many on the roofs in Japan, is basically two plastic hemispheres stuck together with lasered supports underneath, sprayed light grey and weathered accordingly. Quite simple to do which is fortunate as I plan to make several more.

The white building has subsequently been painted as these photos were taken a couple of years ago.

Boards and subway will be in a while as I need to take some decent photos of them yet.

No idea really. There are plenty of cylindrical ones but they do look older. I did a quick search last night and came up blanks  :?

I’ve often wondered. You’ve certainly captured the look though.  8)

Oh man, that does add a lot to the whole feel! The spherical water tanks definetly feel more sci-fi than cylinders. All I can think of is that a sphere is a stronger pressure vessel?

Cheers fellas  :)

All I can think of is that a sphere is a stronger pressure vessel?

Yeah, I thought that as well but it's only water and they're not that big. I would've thought a sphere is more costly to make than a cylinder  :?

Perhaps it's an earthquake thing. A cylinder has joints top and bottom and the force of an earthquake would act upon those joints whereas a sphere isn't subject to the forces as much given it's shape.

Whatever the reason, they look cool  :D

Time to add a bit more to this project. I decided to add a bit more detail to the first block of flats and will do some cabling on the upper floors as they’re going to be stuck together (once I’ve sorted the window interiors out). I’ve also looked at the shop interior and I think the layout will work with a few minor adjustments. Still plenty of details to do for this and the chest freezer needs to be made smaller and have things added to it.

Got a bit of work done on a second block although this is a sort of office block rather than accommodation.

Still need to sort out the swinging cable weathering but debating on the best way to do it.

Also playing around with lighting and I think I’ll put some on the roof to shine up at the bill board.

Not much done for this but I didn't get a floating car done. I've seen a Chinese fella on facebook do this with quite a few diecasts and thought it would fit quite well with the project  :)

It's only a quick gubbins bash, the Chinese fella's are much better.

It's going to have a large washer encapsulated in a lasered acrylic base for the flight stand; diecasts can be quite heavy for the size  :)

My experience is to not paint flying stands/rods straight black, but rather a midtone grey, preferably with a slight gradient as well, dark at the bottom, lighter at the top. This makes them blend in way better... :)

Played around getting another one done. This time it’s a van and with it being a kids toy there was actually a sticker of produce to go in the top (second picture).

I’ve put a tarp on using tissue painted over with watered down wood glue. The straps are thick paper and the hasps are styrene strip.

Got a little time this evening after casting and doing terrain boards all day and started on a ramen shop interior. They are fairly generic, especially the ‘normal’ ones (the ones usually in more suburban areas) but the devil will be in the details. Most of the bits will be scratch built but the stools and a few other items will be 3d printed (the stool at the front is to get the height right).

It’ll be quite grubby and the decor will be various shades of brown and tan (they tend to look very 70’s but the food is devine  ;D ).

But it does skirt the line between building wargaming scenery and building a dollshouse.

Could Hama beads perhaps be used to make various jars and bowls? They are easily shaped with heat.

Yes, maybe it is a little too ‘dolls housey’ but I like to make things and it's good to keep my hand in on this sort of thing.

I’m taking inspiration from some of the Japanese modelmakers out there. Those crazy buggers do this sort of thing all the time and at much smaller scales (1:150 being a popular one).

May I ask what range the miniature is from? She looks ot be a great fit for a number of genres.

I don’t know I’m afraid, got her second hand from a b&b a few years ago.

Doll housing your scenery is the way to go I say! And maaaaaaan, your table is getting so awesome. Love the little details. More!
It's just really satisfying to finish a scenery piece with every part added to complete the scene. And once it hits the tabletop it's even better. It also helps with the (visual) story when playing the game. But it does take ages to complete ;)

I do occasionally find the really tiny work therapeutic (unless it goes wrong then I go and sulk  lol).

Some progress made as the kitchen gear and walls are just about done. Bowls, condiments and utensils next. The customer bar needs some aluminium trim on the edge and I still need to print the stools.

Once they’re done then it’ll be the main walls of the establishment. I’ll probably use Sandtex (textured masonry paint) and paint them a dirty tan colour. Thinking about spraying up some thin card to look like cheap Lino for the floor and when suitably dirty it should do fine. Some aircon units on the walls and maybe a wall mounted telly along with some menus should finish it off.

Got a bit of lighting done and most of the outside of the building. Roof access and a few bits for there and of course all the pot and dishes for the inside. Also need to do a telly, some sort of waiting seating, a few more signs and of course the windows. I dcided to make the chairs as opposed to printing them as the z axis on the printer is still a bit wobbly and I'm still scared to take it apart and sort it out  lol

0.5mm acrylic with a 0.8mm thick frame on the outside.

The local one we go to round the corner from my sister-in-laws is just as plain. People are there to eat and nothing else  lol

It’ll have some posters and such added though.

Yes, particularly one of the seedy basement bars I’ve got planned and also some of the street/shop signs (I’ve yet to buy them though  lol ). I might see if the Japanese supplier I got the micro leds from does them.

I’d probably have to take a video of them to show it properly  :?

A rather small update as I haven't had a lot of spare time for this but it's a fairly important one. I've made some road extensions that make the roads wider and allow for more 'hand' access in between the buildings.

It's an extra 100mm wide (and is a slightly different colour because the original tiles have faded a little bit  lol ) and 300mm long to fit with the other tiles. The first four photos are without it and the last three are with. I think I'll have to do some 100mm square ones but that will make sense when I get some more normal tiles completed.

Brilliant stuff as always 8)

And the colour difference isn't that jarring. I mean; tarmac and concrete roads are constantly being repaired, and tonal differences in road surfaces, even between adjacent lanes is pretty common.

To be honest, from the pictures, it makes it feel even more natural somehow (although it might be absolutely glaring in real life of course :D ).

Exactly! If anything the road is too uniformly colored. But i guess in Japan they don't have the same pothole riven poorly maintained roads that the rest of us do.

Nope. They do have them, but not many at all.

All the electric cables are above ground which also means less digging up of the roads.

Got a quick little tree planter and road sign done. The planter is far too big but I can still use it somewhere and I’m thinking of drilling holes along the kerb edge for the signs and also for the larger streetlights. I’m also thinking it might be possible to have the lights light up when they are placed in the holes (gubbins underneath the base plates).

Planter isn't too big, right? I think it looks very well. Smaller and it wouldn't be in balance with the tree. The road sign is very effective and I like it a lot 8)
Title: Re: Akira - Road extensions - page 11
Post by: YPU on June 17, 2019, 08:00:39 PM
I agree with malebolgia, seems about right, maybe we just have large planters down here?

For the road signs, I'd consider putting magnets in the road side and putting it one on the bottom of the poles. That way they can't snap of and are easy to remove if say a vehicle makes a veer onto the sidewalk during a game!
Title: Re: Akira - Road extensions - page 11
Post by: OSHIROmodels on June 17, 2019, 08:11:14 PM
I've got smaller trees so that's not a problem, I meant it's too big for the pavement section it's on, not much room to move around it. Most of the trees over there just grow out of small 'holes' in the pavement tarmac/slabs but I can't really do that for this hence the planter idea.

I don't mind doing smaller ones and a lot of the street trees are severely pruned to keep them tall but with a small spread so I can cut the scale trees to match. I think the pavement itself is probably too narrow though.

I like the magnets idea but I think holes will be a better option in the long run as the joins will be more seamless and invisible.

Thanks for the input chaps, appreciated  :)

The planter looks good, but I got your point about how it should look.

How about a base for the tree that 'fades' into the pavement, and (slightly) slopes up to the tree trunk itself? As if the roots have pushed up the pavement; happens all the time.

Also, I've put a lot of thought into the planning for a table with removing, working street lights, and I ended up settling on using 3.5mm jack-plugs, with the sockets recessed into the base, connected to a wiring harness underneath the board.

The plugs have several advantages: they are tight, connect the + and - well, and are easily removed and replaced. I found a type that is very thin, almost as thin as the plug itself , so probably about 4mm. It's a soft brass and has a textured outside (diamonds) to facilitate easy (un)plugging, which would probably have to go; either puttied over or filed/sanded off.

Then it's pretty easy to solder the wires and lead them through a tube which is the mast. Haven't thought about the actual light fitting, but there are loads of dirt cheap model railroad street lights on AliExpress (I know; bought 100 of them ::) ) so those are a definite option.

Be aware; I haven't fully fleshed out or even tried this approach, but it does seem very promising... ;)

I'm going for quick and easy, so for the most part it'll be washers and rings (which is what the current one is made from) but if I have a fancy building then that would be more suitable.

Be aware; I haven't fully fleshed out or even tried this approach, but it does seem very promising... ;)

No, that all makes sense and was kind of the way I was going to do it. We did have an electronics chain over here called Maplins but they've gone bust which is a shame as I'd rather be able to look at components in my hand rather than pictures on the net  :? Still, might be worth a punt as the components won't be expensive at all.

As to what to call it, Elastic-trickery Meister might be suitable but I'm rubbish at electronics (for some bizarre reason, I got most of the wiring jobs at work; I still need the picture to wire a fucking plug  lol )
Title: Re: Akira - Road extensions - page 11
Post by: OSHIROmodels on June 21, 2019, 10:54:58 AM
After the Boxer Rebellion game last night I managed to do a quick set up of most of what's been done so far. Top photos are without the extensions and the bottom ones are with. I'll certainly be doing it with as there's so much more room to get hands in.

I might also do some thin side passages to go between the building plates but it won't be for all of them as the gap it creates might cause a problem for the expressway; something to ponder

I've got most of the parts for the expressway but they are still unassembled and therefore not included.

The strange looking angled piece close to the ground surface is a construction site but it has stairs that lead below ground level so when all the boards are elevated to the correct height it'll fit nicely into the building plate.

There's still sooooo much to do though  lol

Damn impressive. That looks absolutely stunning and spot on. But I can imagine that raised highway will inhibit gameplay quite a bit, that's a pity. For my own table I am considering doing an angular part in a corner to give that extra height and body...but keep things practical. So in a top down view a 45 degree road running through one quarter of the table.
But I can see that's not really an option now with your setup ;). Still, the best table setup there is man, totally awesome.

Spectacular!   :o  :-*

Love Akira. I watched it the first time as a teenager on video on a Friday night, and on waking the next morning went right back and watched it again. Read the manga years later when Dark Horse put it out in 6 volumes. It's amazing how epic. After seeing the movie (which was made only part way through the manga) you think where else could it go? But the manga keeps escalating and keeps rolling out oh damn and holy &*#@#  moments right through.   :o

Many novels and movies seem self contained, in that they have an arc and stories outside that arc need to be fit in carefully, start a new age, or what not. The world wasn't constructed to exist in a world of serial stories. With Akira, I feel that gaming it and keeping the momentum, and keeping the balance between human scale moments and epic city-destroying events would be a real challenge, but possible in the right hands.

At any rate, amazing city! I just found the thread and would like to come back to this. Tons of inspiration. Hope you have endless fun living the dream playing in your city!

I'm starting on a city environment I've been planning and collecting and making a few inroads in for a few years now, and am moving to a new place this summer where I'm finally going to have a space large and permanent enough for me to go full bore with the city building. Fires are stoked!

Cheers again fellas  :)

The Akira manga is full of great stuff. I've only got a couple and keep meaning to get the rest but normally forget  ::)

Good luck with you city, post some photos when you can  :)

Seen this? Excellent inspiration for your project!

Looking good, though I'd echo those concerns about playability, that road bridge is great but it'll be a pain in the arse to move figs under it, especially after a few beers lol

Not much progress as I’m away but I have done a little skip from card (excuse the out of period figure but I forgot to bring a suitable one). The bits in the skip are scraps of balsa, card, sprue and some small gravel.

Not too happy with the orange rust as I didn’t bring my mix with me and the paints I do have don’t really work (it’s not worth a trip to the art shop either).

It’s the Tamiya diorama texture paint ‘grit effect’ and for this it works quite well for texture but it’s the actual colour I’m not too happy with.

That’s the new one which I actually prefer to the old one but the Halmark ones are the old ones. I think they’ll still look great I situ though as it’s a very good design.

Was waiting for a large amount of a flock to dry on a commission and decided to add some plant pots to the roof of the ramen shop. No particular reason  lol

When the windows are done for it I'll take a video on a turntable and post it up. Might not be for a while though.

I'm also going to rebase all my figures for this (there's only 15 or so) as 25mm is too wide really and they are a bit too thick as well. Two layers of lasered 1mm with a 20mm diameter should do the trick.

Project is awesome, is it safe to say that the buildings were flat packed for luggage transport?

Thanks  :) Nope, they just took up most of one suitcase  lol

Got a bit of work done on a garage for another building. I’ll be drawing and printing a bicycle hopefully that’ll go in there (it’ll be a simple one to save a bit of time). I will also be putting a couple of lights in there and possibly some random ones behind some of the windows in the building itself.

Dunno what to do for the roof yet but when I know I’ll take some photos of the whole building (it’s gone back in a box now).

I have to resist...

Yes, a mix of GW inks and Foundry and craft paints. I’ve got various mixes of them.

I’ve also got a rust ink mixed up and I quite often use pastels.

The boxes were freebies from the net scaled in autocad. Just search for model boxes or some such and you’ll find them. I got these years ago and haven’t a clue as to where. I do remember there were more on the site but I didn’t get them.

The green building has removable floors (and some of the others in the same style do as well). It’s not practical for games though so the intention is to have print outs on the sidelines that figures could be placed on. Gun ranges would be measured from the actual windows if shooting from the buildings.

No, it was on a Japanese railway modellers forum that I stumbled across by pure chance. Forgot to bookmark though as I thought ‘I’ll have a look again tomorrow’ but that was a couple of years ago  lol

its one of those things that doesn't stand out, but in its unobtrusive nature adds realism to the scene. Its a great piece of gameplay scenery as well, can't go trough it, can trace LOS trough it but definitely cover.

Apparently I failed at internetting last week, and dropped links with no explanation.  So, here’s the explanation :)

I found a copy of the file for the shipping boxes, you can find it at this giant ugly link:
https://public.bn.files.1drv.com/y4pRZzuKPyHpHJETN2Hxni-3tqYyW53XO2NjhN1hEvlFeh7KM34iWC-hFnTryCauCfcQMdj3vU2a7QzfpCrI7GWRcqRza3Gt9NqE2ZeMelqys__8tnjW7Et7GlBinZx8Oj9NE_x7K-hAR39DznceSKjo_ZnwbqAKs4kFKkH20l7Yx6wSBOM7YNx0p-u5A-yPsb0/Tg-Box01.JPG?psid=1

I found it with a bunch of other files for boxes, shipping containers, etc. here:
https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=5C08D02D0B309F29&id=5C08D02D0B309F29!429

Hope this helps.

Got this one finished  :)

No lights as it'll be a self contained light box and I'll be doing several at the same time in one hit.

Most of the details are available from here https://oshiromodels.wixsite.com/oshiromodelswebshop/urbanfuture (https://oshiromodels.wixsite.com/oshiromodelswebshop/urbanfuture). The tv aerial was soldered from brass and the car is from Antenocities (dunno if it's still available).

Still plugging away at bits and pieces of this and at the moment it’s the central reservation I mentioned earlier.

This will allow easier play on the table with the expressway not getting in the way. Happy with the way it’s turned out so I can crack on with the others.

Last two photos have the road width extensions added.

It really brings it together. Excellent. Do you have more sections planned or will you just wake up one day and think “maybe I’ll make x today”.
Title: Re: Akira - Central reservation - page 20

Do you have more sections planned or will you just wake up one day and think “maybe I’ll make x today”.

There are enough pavement sections built for three foot either side (along with the expressway bases) and when I get the other two reservation sections built (they are quite easy, I just need to decide what design for them) then there’s enough for a small game on a three foot square. I’ve got enough started and finished buildings to fill both sides, it’s just a case of finishing them  ::)

I’ve started on the road widening sections but need quite a few of those before they’re useable.

I’ve also got a two foot long underground platform nearly done and I will need to do some sort of entrance for it. I’ve also got ideas for sewers and basements to ‘fill up’ the remaining underground area for the three foot square space.

I’ve got plans for some sort of canal sections to go behind a row of buildings or to also have it so it can go in the middle of the board. These should be relatively easy.

It’s a massive project but only being able to do a bit at a time is difficult because I float around it like a butterfly  lol

Post by: OSHIROmodels on October 05, 2020, 04:13:52 PM
Yes, at some point in the future. I've got plenty of acrylic tube for the pipe work, just need to sort getting it cut to length.

I'll also be doing some sort of factory/warehouse that's collapsible but I've got a couple more residential plots to sort out then I can move onto them.

Something like this for the pipe work. It could also branch into something similar to the scene in Ghost in the Shell when the major is in her camo suit fighting that bloke.

Will there be the dead rat with the maggots in the water?

Just back from watching the film at the cinema. Just wow! As much wow as when I saw it way back when (ICA in 1991).

This thread reminded me of it so well.

As an aside, the majority of the film is set in Tokyo in 2019, where they are preparing to host the Olympics! Maybe someone at the IOC was a fan.

Got a bit more time on this project recently and have nearly finished a little city shrine.

Still needs gravel, a fence at the back, the shrine itself obviously and probably a bin or two; just because  lol

I’m thinking that the grill/drain at the front is a bit over the top and I might cover it with a bit of painted card to match better with the normal pavement  :?

The torii and shrine will be available in the Urban Future section of the webshop eventually.

I’ve got an idea to do something similar but just have it as a simple koen (park); maybe with some swings or some such.

I don't think the grill it that bad actually! Some gravel will definetly liven it up a bit though, it has the vibe of a empty pool at the moment. Nice characterful addition to the table, the hedges are particularly convincing.
