Excellent. The magazines and shell casings are nice touches. It's great street litter! The water bottle is my favourite :D
How are you getting on with your board side of things?(he asks in hope of being able to steal ideas! ;))
Are you going to put any of your old pictures on here? Your old thread was one of the best sources of inspiration on this forum!
Have you managed to find the bikes in 28mm?.As remember your buildings and the lighting . But I don't recall seeing the bikes.
One more question :D Is The 'chopper' one of the card ones from Laser Cut Card?
Time to re-start my Japanese anime/manga project after the Photo*@%?# debacle lolHey James,
cheers
James
But is the highway bit not a slightly oppressive? Are you planning on playing most of your games on top of the road?
Are you taking inspiration from Ghost In The Shell for your river/sewer section?
One last question....(I feel like Columbo here!).....is the yellow see-through building going to be all glass?
Potentially the board can be widened with additional, thin road sections (say 100mm wide) to increase the distance between it and the buildings although there area over here that are like that.
The three walls to the front and sides have windows in them and the lift/stairs are supposed to be in the more solid area to the rear. I've got a few floors of this done already but hit a stumbling block lighting it and having removable floors, hopefully the electrics book I've bought recently will help with that.
This means all sections can be powerd by one source, and can be completely modular. I was also planning on adding power connectors on the surface (i.e. female connectors, flush with the surface) for buildings, street lights and vehicles, which would all have a corresponding male connector on the bottom. I was thinking 3.5mm jack-plugs for this.
For interboard connections it might be worth looking at how model railway boards are connected.
I'm also intrigued by the row of Chinese/Vietnamese houses in the background.
Seeing you showing off these buildings again makes me realise you need a 28mm scale Gundam or Godzilla for your table! ;)
I’ve got a 1/48 Patlabor along with another mech from the same series that’ll get some work done in them at some point. That reminds me, I have an AV-96 Ingram and a Brocken assembled in a box somewhere (and an unassembled Helldiver). I must dig them out.
What kind of plastic do you use for building? looks great!
but do you know why they use those spherical water tanks?
Thanks :)
No idea really. There are plenty of cylindrical ones but they do look older. I did a quick search last night and came up blanks :?
All I can think of is that a sphere is a stronger pressure vessel?
I'm not sure what to say, it's so over the top good. What he said.
The shop window is particularly good, is it a clear acrylic?
Thanks chaps :)
Yes and the signs are just printed on normal paper and stuck on.
Now this is what should be coming to Salute mate.
Awesome buildings James and I will follow with interest! Hope you add an otaku model shop (HLJ branch?) so I can stare longingly in the Windows at the 1/56 scale models of the 1/100 scale anime models lol
Would you not be better using your clear acrylic flight stand.
Excellent. Makes me think: The Fifth Element 8)
My experience is to not paint flying stands/rods straight black, but rather a midtone grey, preferably with a slight gradient as well, dark at the bottom, lighter at the top. This makes them blend in way better... :)
...the only weird thing about them is the lack of a driver, I'd almost be tempted to just paint the windows
Absolutely love the hover cars, the only weird thing about them is the lack of a driver, I'd almost be tempted to just paint the windows
May I ask what range the miniature is from? She looks ot be a great fit for a number of genres.
Could Hama beads perhaps be used to make various jars and bowls? They are easily shaped with heat.
Huh!?
I thought everyone knew Hama beads. https://www.hamabeads.com/product-category/all-mini-hama-beads/
They come in different sizes.
It looks fantastic (light switches!) but I find the staff to be a little intimidating :DYes, but well endowed!
When you say customer?
I thought this was for yourself?
What are you going to use for the window glass?
It could do with a bit more colour in the shop, it is a bit bland, but may just be the photo?
The Tokyo Mayor's office and city planning bureau has kindly requested you to stop shrinking their buildings and taking them home with you. The reconstruction efforts are bankrupting the city! lol Very well done, mate!
Got a couple of less for the sign out the front and took a picture with the lights off :)

Have you thought of doing some flickering led lighting? That would be awesome.
Thanks again :)lol, or just multiple photos ;)
Yes, particularly one of the seedy basement bars I’ve got planned and also some of the street/shop signs (I’ve yet to buy them though lol ). I might see if the Japanese supplier I got the micro leds from does them.
I’d probably have to take a video of them to show it properly :?
lol, or just multiple photos ;)
If I do that I’ll just cheat with normal leds and turn them off and on again for each photo lolThere is the option of doing that anyway for gamin and having to deal with RSI at a later date.
I do have a generic remote and possibly some sensors somewhere...
Now you are talking cyberpunk. :D
And the colour difference isn't that jarring. I mean; tarmac and concrete roads are constantly being repaired, and tonal differences in road surfaces, even between adjacent lanes is pretty common.
To be honest, from the pictures, it makes it feel even more natural somehow (although it might be absolutely glaring in real life of course :D ).
Brilliant stuff as always 8)

Exactly! If anything the road is too uniformly colored. But i guess in Japan they don't have the same pothole riven poorly maintained roads that the rest of us do.
Also, I've put a lot of thought into the planning for a table with removing, working street lights, and I ended up settling on using 3.5mm jack-plugs, with the sockets recessed into the base, connected to a wiring harness underneath the board.
I'm so jealous of all of you electro-priests (that's the correct term, right?) out there. I would love to add lights to my 15mm builds, but I haven't got the knowledge, tools or skill.
Voltlord Currentwrangler; Amp-smith. At your service... ;D
I believe they prefer galvanimancer these days, none of that religious mumbo jumbo. :D
How about a base for the tree that 'fades' into the pavement, and (slightly) slopes up to the tree trunk itself? As if the roots have pushed up the pavement; happens all the time.
Be aware; I haven't fully fleshed out or even tried this approach, but it does seem very promising... ;)
I reckon that you need a very small assistant to climb underneath and move the figures around for ya.
;D
Damn impressive. That looks absolutely stunning and spot on. But I can imagine that raised highway will inhibit gameplay quite a bit, that's a pity. For my own table I am considering doing an angular part in a corner to give that extra height and body...but keep things practical. So in a top down view a 45 degree road running through one quarter of the table.
But I can see that's not really an option now with your setup ;). Still, the best table setup there is man, totally awesome.
I've got him a scaled school girl uniform so he'll fit in with on of the gangs I've got lol
The elevated expressways could be used for Dredd too.
:o :o :o :o
Oh, you bugger!
I cannot unsee that image now!
HELP!
:o :o :o
Your fault in the first place. Don’t worry though as I will remind you from time to time to keep the image fresh and not forgotten :D
Fantabulous. Please deposit 50 cents for the use. :-)
Spectacular! :o :-*
Love Akira. I watched it the first time as a teenager on video on a Friday night, and on waking the next morning went right back and watched it again. Read the manga years later when Dark Horse put it out in 6 volumes. It's amazing how epic. After seeing the movie (which was made only part way through the manga) you think where else could it go? But the manga keeps escalating and keeps rolling out oh damn and holy &*#@# moments right through. :o
Many novels and movies seem self contained, in that they have an arc and stories outside that arc need to be fit in carefully, start a new age, or what not. The world wasn't constructed to exist in a world of serial stories. With Akira, I feel that gaming it and keeping the momentum, and keeping the balance between human scale moments and epic city-destroying events would be a real challenge, but possible in the right hands.
At any rate, amazing city! I just found the thread and would like to come back to this. Tons of inspiration. Hope you have endless fun living the dream playing in your city!
I'm starting on a city environment I've been planning and collecting and making a few inroads in for a few years now, and am moving to a new place this summer where I'm finally going to have a space large and permanent enough for me to go full bore with the city building. Fires are stoked!
Seen this? Excellent inspiration for your project!

The music was good enough on it's own, I'll have a look to see if there's any more.
Looking good, though I'd echo those concerns about playability, that road bridge is great but it'll be a pain in the arse to move figs under it, especially after a few beers lol
I'm guessing you know it's from the 2nd bladerunner film right.
Btw a Karl Urban style Dredd would fit in there perfectly! ;)
That’s a good idea and DREDD is a great film 8)
Careful......
Andy has caught ya and given you the Butterfly Effect.
lol
That's rubbish ;)
What do you use for the rust texture?
See, told ya rugby would not be enough:
MUST BUILD!
:D
It was always the intention to bring stuff out. I’ve built nine buildings so far lol
Just wondering if I can get away with going to a home centre and get some base material.
I’ve got a couple of Spinners on their way as GH could be could for Bladerunning lol
I am impressed that you managed to take all this with you?
Did you not get some strange looks from security?
And are you going to be able to get it all back in one piece?
Spinner:

;) :D
Project is awesome, is it safe to say that the buildings were flat packed for luggage transport?
Nice pot plants, did you buy the pots and make the plants?
I have to resist...
Give in to temptation :D
What do you use to weather? I'm guessing acrylics, I tend to pile on oils (which are ancient),probably to not much effect lol
Very impressive, are the interiors of each floor playable on or is it a once piece (cant take roof/floors off)?
Cheers :)
The boxes were freebies from the net scaled in autocad. Just search for model boxes or some such and you’ll find them. I got these years ago and haven’t a clue as to where. I do remember there were more on the site but I didn’t get them.
Maybe by 'Tommygun' (that was his forum's handle elsewhere AFAIK)? That was where I got them at least.Might have to maybe share since no one can remember. ;-)

And the cars are still available :)

You are going have to stop building this tall scenery, though, as some of your group may not be able to see over it.
Lovely work mate .... terrain with height presents a very different challenge (and not just to midgets like Paul ;)
Might want to stick something on the end of that aerial...looks pretty lethal...perhaps a safety seagull ?
:D
Do you have more sections planned or will you just wake up one day and think “maybe I’ll make x today”.
.....because I float around it like a butterfly lol
Been dressing up in the fairy wings again, eh...?
;D
I'm intrigued as to your storage solutions, where the hell do you keep all your stuff?
Do you rent warehouse space?
Always fun to see behind the curtain at anothers rhino files as well.
Oh that will be good! Akira has a couple of scenes in trenches like that as well I think, though with more sloped sides.Yes, true.
Will there be the dead rat with the maggots in the water?
Not water instead of gravel?
