An addition for my medieval terrain - Hudson and Allen pieces I've had for some time. Fantastic detail in these models, which make them a joy to paint.
Will admit to shamelessley copying a lovely John Boadle model with same barn.
Sow and piglets in the sty are all doing well, if anyone is concerned to ask!
Thanks, Simon.

Fantastic composition and painting
-
Lovely work Simon :)
-
really impressive stuff there ;-)
-
Pleased that the Sow and piglets are ok but you should be more concerned about getting a Cooper to look at that broken barrel outside the right hand building Simon ;) :)
Lovely scene mate :-*
Cheers

It's almost too nice to burn down.
Lovely work.
-
Great work Simon.
I've got a big set of Hudson & Allen buildings on order myself!
What colours do you use for the woodwork?
-
Wow, that looks great.! :-*Particularly like all the bits and bobs around the farmyard
-
Lovely as always Simon :-*

Hi Charlie,
Black undercoat, then Vallejo Model Colours - Black Grey, German Grey Green and London Grey - all dry brushed on.
The wash of AP Soft Tone ink.
Final dry brush highlight of VMC Light Grey.
I'm certainly very tempted to get a couple more too.
Cheers Simon.

Thanks, I might give that recipe a go when I get mine.
I ordered the walled farm, all of the timber framed cottages, and a couple of barns / sheds. Enough to make the outskirts of a village to fight over. Sometime in the future I plan to get a few of the more urban looking ones - that big coaching inn thing looks fantastic!
-
great looking house and a nice addition to your by now insanely large collection im sure!
-
Fantastic piece, really like the colours of the buildings!
-
Charlie
You mentioned the walled farm - so this made me check mine out and treat it to some new tufts!
Still not used this on the tabletop - a resolution for rest of 2018.
I added hinged doors....
Little scenario is Burgundian guards being billeted and kicking out the Ordonnance longbowmen.
Cheers
Simon.

Very nice. I like the sandstone colour 8)

It's almost too nice to burn down.
Nothing is too nice to burn down, as Henry V would have told you.

Well I did say "almost".

I'm in awe of the work on these pieces! They look amazing, are there any known Continental suppliers or UK dealers?
-
They are lovely buildings and you’ve certainly done them proud, love that pig pen layout.
Mine get their first outing at Partizan, but I might need to go and recheck my painting, seeing these :o
-
Fantastic work, Simon! I'm in the middle of planning another order from Hudson & Allen myself, so that's very inspiring! :-*
-
Top painting. I wish there is a distributor for H&A-Miniatures. Order in USA is to expensive over here.
-
Beautiful work!
-
Just superb! :-*

Splendid job on those buildings Simon.
I've always greatly admired (read 'been insanely jealous of' lol) your Hudson & Allen / John Boadle collection - and it's just getting more lovely with each addition.
Ebob used to sell part of the range in the UK, but I think he's been out of commission for a while?
-
Fantastic! I love both pieces! :-*
Great colouring! 8)

Hello,
Superb paintjob !!

Absolutely stunning work. I can feel the grumbles of those poor longbowmen being turned away
-
Those are some awesome farms.
-
These pieces of terrain are really outstanding! Thanks for sharing!
-
Yes, very nice indeed.

It's almost too nice to burn down.
Said the longbowman to the billman. lol
-
So nice paint jobs Painterman, and in the first picture, it adds so much to the effect when you do a proper base and little detail additions, it really brings the buildings alive. I have to try something like that too. Is that Renendra wattle fencing in the pigsty?
-
Verderer
thanks for the kind words and yes, Renedra wattle fencing.
Cheers
Simon.

Simon, what paint colours did you use for thatch? This is one of the areas I am most having an issue with. I want my thatch to be worn rather than 'new'.
-
Beautiful stuff Simon :-* :-* :-*
I love the guy confronting the chap carrying the empty flagon at the start of the thread....
"Oi! did you drink my ale!?!?"
Darrell.
-
Hi
The thatch was over a black undercoat and is a dark umber (vallejo I think) dry brushed a couple of coats.
then some flesh tone added to the dark umber to just catch the edges in an upward dry brush, from bottom to top and along the ridge.
Hope that helps, I used a house near me as my reference, which has aged thatching. I must admit that so many folk seem to go for a thatch finish which seems to be the day after the roof has been put on!!

Do Hudson & Allen still sell these buildings? Couldn't find them on their webshop. (Also couldn't afford them, but still asking. :))
-
Sold now in USA by Vatican Enterprises.
Ben is good to deal with, but you’re likely to get stung for customs duty on imports from USA.
Someone has got Some UK. stock but yet to get them ready for sale - so watch this space.
Simon

Thanks!
Also, forgot to say your terrain & composition with miniatures is superb. :)

See my thread for details on prices and my experience ordering from the UK.

Very, very tempted by these myself, think they would go well as a farm in the Pale for my Elizabethan Ireland project, a nice target for Irish raiders.
-
Nice scenery, you have done a fine job. Keep up the good work & post it as well.
-
Both sets are truely wonderful and have inspired me to purchase some Hudson & Allen buildings from the USA. Where did you source the extras (bench, ropes, barrel and tree from in the first set?
-
Did the guy in the UK ever get the stock of these buildings?
Clive
-
I contacted him a few weeks back - seems he has received stock and was getting them added to a website...still know no more I'm afraid.
But I'm ready to buy...
-
Me too, keep us posted please.
