I noticed Fram had posted a link to a Mono wheel in another thread which reminded me I've a 90%(ish) finished one knocking around (definitely in butterfly mode this year).
So while I'm taking pictures of finished bit for others. I thought I might as well see if anyone was interested in this.
Mark.

Yes, there's more 'chunk' to this one than others I've seen, additional realism from my perspective.
-
That's a great model.
-
Absolutely effin' brill.
Will the rider be removable/separate?
-
Way cool! Could use a machine gun or two...
-
"Could use a machine gun or two..."
...whose recoil would help propell the wheel: Shoot More = Go Faster!
Shoot just one (side) and give a bonus to a turn (at a cost to accuracy, of course).
A cannon for a brake?
This stuff just writes itself.
-
Yes, yes, yes. Must have one for Mad Maxilliam.
-
Figured you'd like it armed lol
It's already got a mounting for a Lewis gun. Just requires a chunk of blue tack to hold it in place. Which doesn't translate well in a photo(so I left it out of the original photographs.)
Matt. It'll be a multi part kit once I've dotted the I's and crossed the T's.
-
By the by, shouldn't there be pedals under his feet?
Or are they moulded onto the boot and I just can't see that very well (the soles look a bit thick, but it's hard to tell in the photos if those are footplates under the boots or not).
-
Excellent :-*
-
Only you lol
I make a perfect circle with in a perfect circle ,and you notice he's got platform shoes. ::)
The shoes do need thinning down, and the soles applying. The foot pegs will be added to the bike after the boots are finished.(Applying a little artistic licence to the positioning will help.)
It also needs a second fix on the riders selves, and additional bits added to the engine.(again rider first to ensure the neatest fit.)
I did mention its only 90%(ish) done ;)

great figure!
would fancy one...
-
Oh yes! 👍
-
What a thing of genius! :o I would love to have about three of those. 8) 8)

Want. Need.
:D

and me.
-
Very nice. I want too :)
I know a guy who built a working monowheel looking mich like this one. It had one major flaw - even when leaning out le couldn't get it to turn. However, since this is such a cracking little model I'll certainlly suspend belief!
-
Glad you like it,as its left home today . So there's a good chance of it being ready for Partizan II, in August.

Top work again Mark.
I'm so jealous of your sculpting abilities :-*
-
Way cool! Could use a machine gun or two...
....or a Dredd or two! ;) See I did find it! :D
Great work! One of your best!.....and that's a long list go choose from! ;)

Wonderful figure and great execution... I do wonder about your grasp of physics though.... A steering wheel??

There are actually a number of these out there, and all the classic ones have a steering wheel.

well colour me wrong then!
Interestign how that steering wheel works then as the only way to turn a monowheel is to move its centre of gravity outside of the plane of the wheel.
In that pic you just posted i can't see a reason for the rider and the wheel to be at opposing angles. Unless thats a fixed position and the wheel cants over to get the front of it out of the line of sight and the rider moves the other way to counter balance it. Would be a nightmare to turn left in though as you have to lift the CofG to get the wheel to lean towards the corner. hmmm...
Anyway none of this takes away from the cracking sculpt that the OP rpesented.
Thanks for the picture YPU.

No problem, it took me a while to accept these things are fact not fiction as well!
I believe that the bike indeed turns by moving the centre of gravity outwards by swinging the rider and engine part to the side when the wheel is turned. I think that the one in the picture either has a tendency to move the wheel the other way (makes sense, turn 2 gears and both move) or this is simply the easiest position to hold the bike in as I'm not sure its actually moving in the picture, the foot on the other side appears on the ground? Pure speculation on my part anyway.
-
Yes, the bike in the above image is definitely stopped.

Oh,I like that monowheel.

That was fascinating, and not just because of the bike. Did anyone else notice the map of France at the beginning included the Rhineland?

This is completely of the (mono) rail but looking at a map I think that's Switzerland? the little hook on the bottom towards Como is there in the abstract.
-
Geographically that would make more sense. Maybe it shows the reach of the TV station into French speaking Switzerland rather than a political map.
I'll shut up now and let people look at monowheels again...
-
Amazing work, Mark! You continue to astound and entertain. :-*
-
First casting arrived yesterday. :)
-
Terrific - now get it painted up so us lesser mortals can have a clue what colours etc etc 👍😁
-
Looking grand! How many parts will it come in?
-
Looks great! :-*
-
Lovely work Mark on this mono motorcycle.
All the best,
Helen
-
'H' and all.
Glad you like it. :D
The basic bike and rider are three parts. Mono wheel , rider, steering wheel with hands built on.
The aircraft Lewis gun and mounting .Two parts(strangely it would appear the mount works on other vehicles too ;) )
So in total the kit is five parts.
Mark.
-
Neat. I couldn't quite tell in the pic if the engine was separate or not. Pretty impressive bit of moulding with this kit!
-
Maybe this one is the next ?? :D :D
-
Appart from the wonderfully impracticable stabilizers and trench legs.
I always liked the way the concept ignored the engine vents of the main illustration when they made it float. Not to mention the poor chap inside in full kit and tin hat.
But no I won't be making it . But.... I can think of a couple of ways you could. :D
-
I just thought very fun this one and posted here. :)
I dont want it in my collection but i will want a few of yours when they are released. :D
I´m having some crazy ideas with motorcycles with sidecars and monocycles with lots of machine guns and perhaps a big one with a kind of sidecar. o_o
Your fault... lol lol
-
Finally managed to throw paint at it this afternoon . a little speed painting and its good enough for the table and thats all I need.
-
Love it!
-
A wonderful piece of kit...
You're giving me ideas again now...
-
Fantastic!! :-*
-
Great. :-* :-* :-*
Looking forward to have one. :)
-
Your a wizard Harry! :o Brilliant stuff mate! :-*
-
Lovely work Mark. The paint work has brought it up a treat.
Best wishes,
Helen

Cheer chaps,
Simon and Mick brought another spin off the master mould for me to paint. As I'm not happy with this one. I made the mistake of building before painting. Which made it a royal pain to paint. Its a smoke and mirrors paint job for the add. So I want one painted properly for me.Plus it bugged the hell out of me knowing I fugded this one.
