Just a quick question - is Steve Gallacci directly involved in the project? And if so, will there be stretch goals for the comics?

Sally 4th has a license from Steve Gallacci to develop a miniatures game based on Albedo.
Steve has agreed to develop some new artwork that will feature in the rule book and campaign source book.
We have many, many ideas for taking this game forward. Albedo is 'hard sci-fi' with a rich and unique background.

The miniatures range are multi-part, top quality digital sculpts, with the sculpts we have to date we can make at least 125 different miniatures. We have the first 20 stretch goals defined for the campaign which will increase the possibilities dramatically. We do have some ideas for new comics / story, if the game reaches it's potential... so watch this space.

Good news then. Thanks for the update! And if don't mind revealing just another bit...what vehicles are you aiming for? Those scouts vehicles with big wheels and aerodynes for instance?  ;)

We are starting off with APC's & Tanks, but as long as we get enough gamers buying in to the system will make all vehicles from Albedo universe.

Just recently received first batch of test casts and painted up some troops from the aggressive, expansionist and very capitalist Independent Lapine Republic (ILR).

Very unusual to see female ILR in front line position, but here we have an ILR Intel Officer briefing troops in forward position.

Aerodynes you say? Any pictures/topic about those?  :D

As requested, here is my card model of a 28mm aerodyne constructed from 3mm hardboard, illustration board, cereal card. and some floral wire IIRC. I didn't have wheels at the time so put it aside and didn't get back to it. The rear ramp works and there is place for a magnet on the bottom for a flight stand which I don't have.

The styrene model I had started was 20-25% smaller so too small to continue.
I will likely build another aerodyne or 2 and will post a build thread for that. Possibly a bigger vehicle transport too.

No problem mentioning the official Albedo Miniatures Game Facebook Group.
It was just set up yesterday.

Too big to make in resin so maybe we could design a MDF and card kit for folks as well.

Just got this Work in Progress shot through from our sculpting team. The image shows an EDF Feline Heavy Infantry soldier acting as loader / No2 on the LMG.

As the Albedo miniatures range had been developed as multi-part castings, these arms will eventually get cast as separate pieces, meaning that you will be able to use them with Heavy Infantry, Light Infantry and Home Guard and with any species head for the ultimate flexibility. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to get some on my painting table!

*girly squeeing noises*
I can only heartily agree about seeing these on my painting table. Though perhaps I should actually paint something to make room for them...

Has the material these'll be been mentioned somewhere? Because if so then I've missed it completely, though I've seen what looks like a metal figure on the Facebook page.

Hi Fionna,

Sorry if forgot to mention. The Albedo Miniatures range are multi-part metal... but with a difference. In the past I've struggled with multi-part metals that have flat joints and are difficult to glue. This range has been digitally sculpted with precision so that the parts fit easily together. The heads have a small cast on pin, the necks have a small hole to take the pin. Where possible arms have been cast as pairs holding a weapon with a pin at top of arms that fits into a depression in shoulders, so multi-part and easy to assemble and convert.

Press Release No 1
Albedo Miniatures Game ACP164
ACP164 is a 28mm miniatures game based on the ‘Albedo Anthropomorphics’ comic written by Steve Gallacci. The product line includes a campaign sourcebook, rules system, a miniatures range, vehicles, buildings and terrain items.

Background
Albedo is a hard science comic, featuring anthropomorphic animals or “critters” in a universe apparently created just for them. The opposing factions in this universe are the Independent Lapine Republic (ILR), which is a society dedicated to advancing the causes of Rabbits and crony-capitalism. They are engaged in a war of expansion against everyone else, which has forced the creation of the ConFed, or Confederation of Planets. The ConFed is represented in firefights by two different forces,  the Home Guard, who maintain security on individual planets, and the Extra Planetary Defence Force, an elite force dedicated to defending systems and recapturing systems taken by the ILR.

Rules System
The Albedo rules system, Albedo Combat Patrol, has been written by John 'Buck' Surdu, retired US Army Colonel and prolific and innovative games designer whose previous works include Gaslight, Look Sarge No Charts, Fire Team Vietnam, Blood and Swash, Beer & Pretzels Skirmish and many, many more. The rules feature innovative, fast play card based combat mechanisms that bring out the detail of tactical ground based combat operations.

Miniatures Range
The miniature range has been digitally sculpted and the figures are supplied as multi-piece metal castings to allow a wide variety of troop type to be depicted. The miniatures have been designed to overcome many of the problems associated with multi-piece metal castings. Heads are cast with a neck that finishes in a pin that locates in a hole in the body; where possible pairs of arms are cast as a pair holding a weapon with pins at tops of arms that locate in to holes in shoulders. This ensures that components align perfectly and are easy to glue together. The Albedo comics feature a vast range of sapient mammals so using our multi-piece approach we hope to be able to make all species that appear in the comic available to gamers as miniatures.

Timings & Approach
Sally 4th will be running a Kickstarter campaign between 15th October and 19th November to raise additional funding for the project, however we are adopting a slightly different approach, which we hope will benefit backers and customers. We have funded the Albedo project as far as we can with internal funding and now need the support of the gaming public to take the game to the next stage. The miniatures that we have already developed are going to be made available for purchase just before the Kickstarter launches. They will go on pre-order on 24th September. The reason that we are doing this is that as gamers we have backed many kickstarters over recent years and have been very excited during the kickstarter period and then frustrated by having to wait a year (or more) to actually play the game. Also, The Albedo Miniatures game is a new gaming concept. As far as we know there are no other ranges of anthropomorphic sci-fi miniatures available to use as proxies, and we want backers to be able to start playing and  be able to participate in the play test of the rules, and also to experience the quality of the miniatures. A PDF copy of the introductory rules, cards and other player aids will be available to backers to download from 15th October.

I'll keep a watch on this range. I've painted many a dog figure (fantasy ranges only at present), but I'd enjoy adding a few cats to the collection. Perhaps paint them to match the various cats owned by my family over the years :)

ACP164 is a 28mm miniatures game based on the ‘Albedo Anthropomorphics’ comic written by Steve Gallacci. The product line includes a campaign sourcebook, rules system, a miniatures range, vehicles, buildings and terrain items.

The Albedo Miniatures Game Campaign Sourcebook

The ACP boxed set will contain a sourcebook for the Albedo universe. This explains the concepts behind the Albedo Comic book series, which are central to the game. We’re trying very hard to not have a game that’s “WW2 rabbits”, or “random space critters”. Steve Gallacci did a lot of work in establishing a rational basis and storyline for his universe, and we’re aiming to stay true to that. Unlike the previous RPG versions, which are based in the ‘present day’, we’re delving into the history of the Albedo setting, and exploring the detail of the First Lepine War. If you’re a fan of the comics, this is the war Erma Felna’s Dad fought in, and which established the way that critters fight.

The sourcebook comes in four parts. The first explores the history of the Albedo Universe, and provides a general overview of how things work. We’ve not gone into exhaustive detail on all these things - that’s because we’re staying consistent with the RPG. If you want to know how space travel works, that’s the place to look. Besides, it’s largely immaterial to a ground level infantry combat game.

The second part of the book looks at the First Lepine War from a historical perspective. We’ve looked at each of the four phases of the war, highlighting the development of technology and military thinking, as well as the key operations.

The third section looks at the military, organisation, weapons and technology. This section contains organisation charts for the HomeGuard, EDF and ILR over time, as well as painting guides for each force.

The final section details a dozen linked scenarios that form the Almata campaign. This explores the escalating conflict on the planetary surface, and depending on the Kickstarter, will also include a mini-campaign set in a space station in orbit above the planet of Coteipi. This campaign is set in the modern period, but later expansion packs will look at the earlier war period in more detail, with associated miniatures. We’re hoping that interest will be high enough to produce the miniatures needed to represent the Almata Home Guard!

Hi Fiona,

Thanks for your message. We are just firming up on how everything is going to work in the Kickstarter and early release now. Next week (24th September), we are putting the core unit back on acp164 website for pre-order to ship October before Kickstarter starts on 15th October. There will be a ConFed Section (8 Critters mix of Cat / Dog / Fox with 1 x Machine Pistol, 6 x Assault Rifle, 1 x LMG) and an ILR half section of 7 x Lapines armed with 6 x Carbine and 7th can either be given a Grenade Launcher or LMG.

The Kickstarter will include:

Sourcebook (80+ pages of background, history, technology, geography) useful for both table top and RPG gamers.
Scenario Book: (40+ Pages of two linked campaign arches with integrated scenarios)
Rules Set: Rule book,  2 x 50 card action decks, 1 x 26 card activation deck, MDF Status Tokens, Perspex Template Set, unit reference cards and introductory scenarios. Basically everything you need to play the game. If we get 300 backers, we will be able to but this stuff in a boxed game which will also include 11 miniatures that are used in introductory scenario.

Miniatures and vehicles including EDF APC, Light Tank, ILR APC, ConFed Light Infantry, ConFed Home Guard, ILR Garrison Troops and Special Assault Troops together with loads of species and weapons stretch goals.

Terrain - Buildings, Roads, Scatter, Modular building interior set.

... and much more depending on level of support!

When Kickstarter starts we will also make basic rules and cards available as PDF downloads so people can start playing / play testing with basic units.

Hopefully Sally Forth will have few of these at SELWG next month. I've been thinking that a group of elephant mounted 'Siamese' warriors would be a fun conversion to use the head/tail sets for. Are there any Avian figures planned soon, maybe as stretch goals?

Unfortunately we will not be at SELWG this year as it clashes with a family wedding.
We will be at Fiasco, Crisis & Warfare with plenty of the ILR & EDF squads plus conversion packs.

We have the first 20 stretch goals defined for the Kickstarter campaign that starts 15th October. This includes lots of different heads, weapons, characters and vehicles.

We would like to be able to offer every species that appears in Albedo. It all depends on how much support we get for the kick starter / pre-orders.

We are still thinking about approach for wings and hoofs. Disney draws them with hands, Steve doesn't.  If we follow Disney lead we upset the Albedo purists. If we follow Steves lead we have miniatures that can not hold anything and can't do much more than peck or graze!

Layout complete for the Albedo Combat Patrol play test rule book.
This will be available as a free PDF download for everyone who backs the Kickstarter (live on 15th October) or pre-orders some Albedo Miniatures from www.acp164.com (http://www.acp164.com) so that everyone can get playing straight away and participate in play test / games development.

I'll have to figure out some method of printing out cards...

May I ask if you've advertised the project on any other miniatures-related sites yet?

Hi Fiona,

We do regular post on Facebook, and I send out press releases to a growing number of sites / blogs, but if you've got any suggestions for any where new, I'd be really pleased to hear them.

Thanks,

Chris

Ah, I'm by no means an expert on advertisement, just thought to ask as I was browsing through Dakkadakka the other day and didn't recall seeing any mention of the project there.
I don't use Facebook myself so most I can do to spread the word is to mention it on the one and only Finnish wargaming forum.  :D

Thank you for your suggestions for the next head pack to make available. I have collected together the responses that will fit on our 'standard frame' miniatures. We are hoping to do small frame creatures (rats, mice, squirrels etc) and large frame creatures like bears as stretch goals in kick starter, which starts 15th October.

We are now running poll, and will collect results on Monday 8th and pass them on to our sculpting team. This is link to vote

Yours could have been the casting vote, as Otter was the winner with 34% of the vote, we have briefed our sculptors so expect to see some Albedo Otters some time next week!

@Chris
So far there are only the 2 squads for sale, right ?
The No.2 for the LMG carrying ammo box isn't available yet ?

Cheers

There is an APC in the stretch goals and there's also been some 3d renders (which I can't manage to locate at the moment...  :? ) of it.
I think there may have been some mention of other vehicles perhaps being possible too but don't quote me on that.

I'm not Chris or affliated with Sally 4th, but I've understood it so that the LMG teams and other things not currently on sale are (hopefully) coming to general release after the Kickstarter.

Thanks for the questions, and thanks Fionna for the answers.

We have big plans for Albedo.
We have some vehicles already being sculpted, other will follow assuming that we get enough backers to be able to support them (so go forth and spread the word!).

We have just made the first two basic troop type unit boxes (plus conversion heads) available for now so that backers can start playing with the free play test rules. Everything that is in the Kick starter will be available as a retail release once the backers have got there copies.

However, as we are committed to supporting the game with monthly new releases, watch this space as we will be shortly showing of Novembers new retail release.
