Title: Latest conversion done
Post by: traveller on May 24, 2009, 09:50:48 AM
I got inspired by all the "latest..." posts in this forum. Please join me on this one. I convert many of the minis I paint and I will post them as replies to this post. Here comes the first one - The Mad Baron with a gun! (The conversion went better than the paintjob...:)

Marcel Dalton, conversion based on the Atlas Averell Dalton mini:

Well, this is my latest conversion, from last week's LPL. Ain't much of one, though. Just a headswap, which is about as much as my skills run to...

My Gallipoli Tommy is Soapy's Combat Stress charity figure, given a new head, also by Soapy. Add a Copplestone SMLE and another soapy head with the actual head gouged out to leave just the helmet, and voila... We have this chap at Suvla Bay saying "Goodbye, old chum" to his comrade.

The original:

Easy job. Absolute child's play.

One of my first completed scuplts, I'm pretty pleased with it if I may say so myself. I've since invested in some clay shapers (soft rubber brush like things, that are good for burnishing the greenstuff), and this gives a much smoother surface on my as yet uncompleted scuplts.

Then some GW imperial guard/handgunners converted to form a scots napoleonic inspired army. I've not come any further with these guys:

The idea was to have a series of parts to be cast to make my own models up with:

but thats not likely to happen since the 40k gets steadily worse with each new edition :(

Title: Re: Latest conversion done

You should still complete this. Don't like the new rules, stick to the old ones or use a different set. ;)

I guess this one qualifies for this thread too:

The figure is intended as a zombified civilian for the WW2 era.

The basic miniature is one of several plastic '30s themed figures that came with a 1/50 scale Lledo days gone car. Most of these figures are about 28mm and while some details like the faces are a bit lacking, they can be used as conversion fodder to come up with some unique figures. I replaced one arm and one hand with bits from the Wargames Factory zombie sprue (they're good enough for this purpose) and the head is a metal west wind zombie head.

Also did these in the same batch.  I believe those are leftover reptus tails and velociraptor arms, though I have no idea really.

Title: Re: Latest conversion done
Post by: traveller on July 24, 2009, 10:57:21 AM
dijit,
see middle of this page:

http://www.napolun.com/mirror/napoleonistyka.atspace.com/Russian_infantry.htm

The opolchenie (militia) was raised in autumn of 1806. It was raised again in 1812. Serfs formed the bulk of the opolchenie, they were chosen by ballot from every 4-5 men per 100 aged 17 to 45 and required the permission of their landlord.
The middle classes; clerics, professionals and intelligentsia joined the opolchenie voluntarily.
The NCOs came from training battalions and retired soldiers. The officers came from noblemen and those who had served in the Army before. The nobility elected the generals and officers of the opolchenie.
Some sources state the opolchenie numbered not less than 420,000 men, a more realistic figure would be just over 200,000 men. The opolchenie took an active part in the military actions at Borodino, Polotsk, Viazima, Krasnoi and Charniki, and many other battles. These cohorts were used as a source of replacements to fill out the depleted line units late in the war as well as employed as independent combat units.
At Maloyaroslavets, pike armed Opolkenie were used to fill in the 3rd rank of the units that had been mauled at Borodino. There are repeated references to the St. Petersburg Opolchenie being absorbed into line units during the period around the second battle of Polotsk. They were not confined to direct military uses but also allowed the release of regulars from logistic tasks. These included maintaining garrisons, trains, parks, camps, stores, and worked as nurses, miners, policing, guarding prisoners and so forth. (Source: "The Opolchenie" by Dr S. Summerfield)

The problem is that there are only few miniatures available. Front Rank and Foundry has some but they look a bit too regular for me. I would like to see more character and civilian peasant items in their dress

I've already posted them elsewhere, but they qualify for this thread... My zombie Tintin and Haddock conversions.

Got the inspiration for this late one night (out of nowhere really), so looked at the WGF sprue for the best parts to use as dollies for these, threw in a West Wind zombiehead with peaked cap (after a bit of filing) and glued it together. Sculpted the details in the next day in two sessions (morning and afternoon). Painted the next day.

Two rather extensive conversions of the 1/35 "fireball" Mak. This is the flying, rocketpack version and everything that wasn't needed was stripped from the models and holes were filled with greenstuff and useful bits and bobs (some old pression buttons were recycled). I decided to give this version flamethrowers (which allowed me to make use of the fueltanks for the rocketpack), using some leftover plastic bits from a GW catachan sentinel sprue. Some tubes were added to connect it to the fuel tanks. Since the long, humanlike arms didn't work for me after this conversion, the other arm was modified to, one receiving a chainsaw (useful in the jungle, no dount) from the same sentinel sprue and the other a circular saw from a clicky mechwarrior mini (these are a great source for alternative weapon arms for your MaK's btw).

A couple of twin detectives to go with the zombie Tintin and Haddock

Title: Re: Latest conversion done - Pirate fiddler
Post by: Poiter50 on August 19, 2009, 03:15:11 AM
No, I haven't made the conversion but I have a spare Foundry or Dixon Old West fiddler and I was thinking of doing the conversion to make him a Pirate era/type figure, so I am seeking opinions.

1. Should I use a tricorned head or a head with bandanna?
2. Should I bulk out the OW trousers to make them baggier or leave them as the slimmer line?

Someone recently was lamenting the lack of a Pirate fiddler either on here or TMP, so I thought that my idea was an acceptable solution.

Also picked up a Dixon seated fiddler and dancer (hoedowner?) who will finish up as one of the crowd in a saloon (eventually). Already have the piano man and banjo/mandolin players (they are painted courtesy of a friend) as well as the card players and saloon girls. Gradually gathering the Cantina crowd as well.
Title: Re: Latest conversion done

I wonder how much fiddling that was done in the pre-tricorne era. I would go for the tricorne option with bulky trousers

Last conversion...

I took Heroclix Criminal from the waist down, added Heroclix Doc Samson's from the waist up, added greenstuff for his shirt and made Doc Savage.

For a size comparison, here he is next to Bob Murch's outstanding Doc Savage miniature…
(http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/9970/docsavage03.jpg)

Got the idea from http://docsavagetales.blogspot.com/2009/04/tannhauser-tuesday.html (http://docsavagetales.blogspot.com/2009/04/tannhauser-tuesday.html)

This is the first time I ever converted a mini and my most extensive use of greenstuff to date.

I'm still in the "baby steps" stage.

The three in the centre are converted; the warchief with headdress has just had his headdress added; the two shieldbearers had their spears cut down, shields added, and remaining spearshaft converted to Aztec-style rake-swords (behind the shields). The rest of the unit is stock Hydra "Ugg" Saurians.

Now Foundry have a Panto Horse I again really wanted one so decided to build it while I am on leave .
While looking at the full sized photos I noticed how rough it was looking so may have to use some filler after priming it .
Also there is a GW Genestealer which I converted to an Alien . Now only another 23 or maybe 31 to go depending on how many sets I can pick up cheaply.

Currently more cone head than alien, lose the eyes and create a dome on the front and the effect is very alienesque.

A hand & sword swap from a Conquest native American (Woodland Indian B pack) to a Crusader French SYW infantry officer, who will be commanding my French-Canadian-Indian force.  The woodland indian had come without a musket whereas I like mine to be fully armed, with the mucket being modded from a Warlord ECW firelock courtesy of fellow LAFer aircav.

I wanted more woodland indians but in shirts rather than barechested and so 'scalped' these Conquest Delaware (a mix from packs A and B, the rest of which will be converted to French Canadian milicien).  Additiional musket as above.

Here you can see some conversions for my napoleonic project "The Battle of Goehrde 1813".
The figures made from the Perry's and Victrix french and british plastics.
I made the peak cap of the Jaegers from the french tschakos and the french field caps by using "a cutter and glue"  ;)

Is the peak cap of the jaegers similar to the prussian cap?

Yes, I think so.
But the 1813 hannoverian troops were uniformed with several clothing things from the french, prussian, russian and british armies.
In 1814 they became their british uniforms, e.g. the dark green brit. rifle unform for the Light Bat. Lüneburg.

I'm a little intimidated by the quality of some of the conversions I've seen here. My recent project was to create some Great Beasts from the Return of the King LoTR film. A dearth of suitable beasties to pull/push siege engines in a recent fantasy game inspired me to have a go after seeing an article in WD of someone who had successfully converted toy animal Rhinos...
The first two are plastic rhinos by different manufacturers found in charity shops with a Foundry 'Gondorian' for scale comparison.
This is #1 and by far the most successful. I had originally hoped to obtain similar models from toy shops etc. but it proved far harder to source these than I had first hoped.
The rougher more knobbly skin modelling of this second rhino and its larger size makes this the herd leader in my book.
After a year or so on the back burner I took the plunge and tried converting other similar sized animals. This started life as a plastic baby elephant. It had roughly the same bulk but the different gait and head position makes for an interesting pose (after a radical nose job).
While #4 started life as a Hippo which still needs more work than the others.
I plan to let all 4 reach a similar stage of modelling - having added the humps, bulking out the shoulder and rump musculature, enlarging the feet and toes and completing the yokes before I finish off by sanding and filing and blending the green stuff into the original surfaces.

I greenstuffed, or brownstuffed rather, the shorts into trousers. The fez was removed in favour for a woodbine company slouch hat.

Some centaurs using Games Workshop's Riders of Rohan horses and Wargames Factory's Roman legionaries. I did a Converting Roman Centaurs (http://www.hourofwolves.org/?view=articles&which=centaurArticle) article, which assumes you have a handle on sculpting already. These are Heresy ghouls, I converted them for the game Strange Aeon.
Out of the 6 male ghouls there are only 3 weapons, knife, sickle, meat clever, meat clever and knife are ok as hand weapons in the game, as I wanted some range I went with the crossbow and replaced the sickle with a  buckle type sword there is one more to be converted with a axe.
Reason I did not give them guns is I may use them in other period type games.

Me again!
Converted c100 pre-40k space marine into chickie babe.
Hollowed out torso and rebuilt, thickened hips plus scratch built the head using GS so it would scale match the captain.  :P

And more conversion work- Hasslefree Libby into a marine for the c100 squad- scratch building the old style of backpack found integral cast onto the originals- quite different to modern ones! The chainsword arm is from a c100 deathguard.

Fixing a broken Citadel Imperial Assasin into a functions support officer for c100 marine squad.  Building her a fist gun to match the c100 captain.

Thanks Grimmnar!

I started a hobby blog a few weeks ago- finally got around to it after a couple years of thinking 'I should start a hobby blog' since I'm always looking at others' fun stuff... spread the wealth and all.

The Hobby Blog is here:  http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/ (http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/)
-it'll mostly have my personal projects but also some of the conversions & creations for clients.

My commission studio site is here: http://www.laughingferretstudio.com (http://www.laughingferretstudio.com)/
-it is mostly for the business stuff, but has a gallery & project section that I update and keep to have items I'm particularly proud of up for easy access viewing.

a few blood bowl teams up the commission schedule is an all-converted multi-species Undead team that I'm looking forward to making.. should be some conversions to show from that, and I'll be making an Underworld team for myself soon.  speaking of, I've posted a lot on the Talk Fantasy Football site- the only forum where I don't go by Laughing Ferret: it's Pitch Invader over there.  :D

I did my first conversion ever to make a Mage Knight figure. I really like the original figure (Lylyth, a Privateer Press figure*), but the original has this godawful huge conehead instead of a face. So I ground it off and replaced it with some other-wise crappy MK figure's face, then tidied up the seam with a greenstuff headdress.

Please forgive the hilariously bad lighting. It was the least-awful means I had to get the contours to show up.

*Out of all the major minis manufacturers, I would say Hordes/Warmachine are by far the closest in overall visual theme to Mage Knight figures.

I love it Froggy! that is awesome.  I recognize the Hinterland woman (right? those are quite cool) what is the big insect she's riding from?

Most women I know are quite squeamish around bugs, that's one brave lady!

I made a new version of the Skaven Deathball, this time to be the star player Fezglitch
(http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb16/LaughingFerretStudio/Misc%20Conversions/Fezglitchwip001.jpg)

More on it here: http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/2011/04/to-z-conversions.html (http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/2011/04/to-z-conversions.html)

After the pictures I added a 'metal' band around the exhaust pipe to support the seat's pole, and made the stick shift brass rod.

Modifed a couple Tekumel-project snakemen a bit: replaced the tentacles with actual hands and weapons taken from the plastic bit box.

Four more to do with various melee weapons.

That beardy barbarian looks pretty fearce, nice puttywork there!

Returning back to mah snakes, here are some more. Four snakemen with melee weapons. Again simple hand and weapon replacements.

Then two Reaper Warlord snakemen (whatever they're called). Instead of tentacles for hands, with these the problem was the lower body which was a snakey one. So I had to cut these in half and the add some feet from another miinis, in this case riders of Rohan... which were a bit small, so I had to enlargen the feet some and add some folds to the clothes etc.

Theyre rather larger than the rest but that's ok. You'd think they're an older generation of leader/champion types?

Done some conversions to complete my GCW troops with NCOs. It seems I have done this ages ago - I tell you never start your own business and move flat...

So here you can see the "Red Hans" and his evil twinbrother the "White Heinz".

As you can see he got his helmet changed with putty for a cap and got some trousers. As well he got the armypockets and waterbottle removed.

I have done some more conversions with WWI Germans to add some machinegunners (helmets removed) and another NCO (just a head sweap).

GCW? Don't recognize that one... it stands for German Civil War? You doing a post-WWI game (i.e. Freikorps & the like)?

Very nice job, by the way. Especially with the cap - you must've had to grind off the helmet and sculpt the cap, but it looks perfect.

GCW= "German Civil War"; correct history-sience term: "revolutionary postwar cirsis" with battles, uprisings, riots and coup de etats form Nov. 1918 to Nov. 1923.

Did a couple 'command' minis for Dwarf Rangers for Lord of the Rings SBG. The rangers needed a Captain & a 'Banner'

Captain:

'Banner': Battle Horn:

Okay, new dorks.

Started off with this old figure as a base.

He was basically a "small" dragon-man (called a Neophant) from the first Mage Knight set ever. He was useful as a small fighter and point-filler to round out a dragon-man ("Draconum") faction army (most Draconum were and are big, expensive figures), but which had become mostly obsolete. Time for an update! A friend made some updated dial designs and I took it from there.

I stripped the stock paint off a pair with acetone, then went to work:

For the first fellow, the straps are layered electrical tape, with some metal trim. The round stud bits are finishing nail heads I snipped off, the pauldron on the first fellow was a hollow filigreed metal bead that I cut into quarters, layered, and added a neck-guard fin from styrene card. His sword was an old spearhead, with a nail for a pommel and the grip was simply filled in with epoxy. For the second fellow, the scimitar blade was done in styrene card as well, with a greenstuff hilt (that hilt is not my best work :-X ). The belly plate was a flat bead, the jewel and belt studs were just epoxy drops, and the belt itself is more electrical tape. The fur is greenstuff.

Finished versions have been posted here (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=33568.msg397826#msg397826).

2 new foundry Saxons turned into Mountain men....a few century later on a new continent... lol.

The guys on the left wear a fur cap now and the wood stick sculpted by foundry (?) became a big saw.
The hunter get a Redoubt rifle and a scratchbult knife on his belt.

Light conversion work but a great result. The paint work will give the final touch.

Oh, this loveble thread!  :-*
finally I've got something to share here. This is a fantasy steampunk warjack for my little imperial army. The theme is based on the symbol of a italian noble family wich dominated Verona (my born town) in late middle-age: white ladder in red field stands for Della Scala family, aka Scaligeri, loyal to the german emperor. Verona's flag is just blue and yellow so I used on my army mostly the three basic colours. Well...back to the mech! It is a Warmachine Khadhor heavy jack and I bought it essentialy because it was a new plastic kit. I sanded the shoulder left hole to put inside a magnet to be able to switch between different arms with different weapons.

(http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8085/23112011474.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/94/23112011474.jpg/)

then i cut away the big axes it had as I wanted only a big iron fist for the first arm option. A magnet and it was ready. I wanted a fire weapon too and so I've added to his original small cannon some bits from the gw imperial great cannon.

(http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/1495/23112011475.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/851/23112011475.jpg/)

here's the finished model in his two versions

(http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/2231/23112011476.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/845/23112011476.jpg/)

aaand...
In this period I'm planning to run a Pike&Shotte&Zombies game/campaign so I made a little kitbashing (gw greatswords and gw pistoliers) to create a ferocious survivor: Arroganzio, mercenary, veteran, brave bastard! Here is some pics :)

(http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/771/23112011462.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/823/23112011462.jpg/)

In case I don't get this painted in time for Christmas (the mini only arrived yesterday and I'm still waiting for some bits to set), then, in the words of Mr Frank Turner,

"... but on the day I die I'll say,
'At least I f***ing tried!', and that's
the only eulogy I need."

This is my interpretation of Captain Christmas, one of several personifications of Christmas who kicked around in 17th century England before everyone settled on Father Christmas.  It's a TAG Swedish standardbearer.  I've added a fur lining to the cassock, a bough of mistletoe, and a tall hat crowned with holly and wrapped with ivy.

A photo of the finished model will go up on my "At Hobbs Hill, 1645" thread.

Edit, Christmas Eve: now done and posted.

Some great stuff on here, great for inspiration.

Thought I would contribute something I did some time ago;

A couple of alternative Nurgle Beasts or any other kind of gribblies that you care to think of.

The one on the left is mostly GW with a new head, the other two are almost complete sculpts with the exception of the claws.

They were all slightly different to represent male (centre) with large slashing claws, female (right) with digging claws for burying eggs and male child (left).

The first figure for my third project for 2012, no painting at the moment, just collecting figures when I can afford them. Whilst waiting for my first order from Brigade to arrive, I found this figure who with a little work could be made into a Savant, the clothing may not be historically correct, but I am sure with the right paint job will look the part.
removed side hair rolls and ribbons from back of head, green stuffed more appropriate hair style, scratch built easel.
Looking at photo's saw green stuff over eye so have removed.

A conversion of Andreas' minis Ithandir (32mm) to a more ranger-like setup and a much smaller cloak. Plus I hated the wraparound cloak on the original. It's beautifully sculpted, but makes the figure look terrible when viewed at any angle other than directly opposite the cloak flourish.

Thanks!

I know it's from a Sisters of Battle figure, but I'm not sure which one. It was a bit bigger than I wanted (I'm more typically a fan of the Tre-Manor Red-Box type sculpts), but she already has big hair, and big, well...  ;)

The figure's supposed to be a big boisterous Amazon, so I think casting sobriety to the winds was fine this time anyway.  :D

I'm not sure which sister the swordarm came from originally, because I just picked it up as a loose bit. She's painted now, so I'll post up larger pics soon. I just need to base her.

EDIT: Okay a Google search shows St. Celestine's sword has a wreath/bouquet of roses on it. So, no.

I wanted to change this guy:

To remove him from the (too-small) cat and put him on a bigger reptile mount.  I chose the game zone dark elf's reptile.

Here's the result:

Beg to differ.
I remember video images from some revolt in Africa Where a guy is waving an enormous piece of tree bark with a large nail in it.
It looked almost surrealistic and the whole thing probably would've broken in two upon hitting someone, but nevertheless, that image remains printed on my memory   :o

P.S. : It's actualy wire from a coil I got out of a relay (the electronic switch component you can find in cars etc...)
I'm not sure, but I think the wires in a (flexible) cable are thicker.

So Laughingferret, I can see the tentacle is hand made, how did the "suckers" get shaped?

Same way- suckers are the easy part actually- the main tentacle part is a lot harder. make a bunch of very small green stuff balls, and along the flat underside of the tentacle just plop a ball down onto it, pressing it in the center with a smaller diameter object (point of a round file is perfect) and instant sucker.. repeat 59 more times ;)

A few details and his shield left to go.  Will post those pictures when I finish him and paint him.

Original figure for reference (http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones/latest/77013)

The pose was too hunched, his head was protruding from his chest, and the musculature needed work.  Also, I wanted to add a bit more Greek flavor to him.  Will use him in various games.

Loving the conversion. Though i need to get one of the original versions still. Only thing i am having an issue with is the length of his legs. They seem not long enough. It is something i see a lot with Minotaur figures and not just this one. Maybe a pic from more of a table level if you have a sec?

Latest conversion: change a dino-man spear man to be a chieftain: shield & stone axe:

Always love your work LF. I hit your blog often to see what new madness you have done. The stone axe though. Seems not to be in his hand properly? Should the head of the stone axe be twisted a bit to the model's right? Other than that cant wait to see it painted.

Finally managed to get the last 3 Hannya-Killers done.
Here they are

Ghostface comics? I am loving them but i couldn't find any reference on them. Got a good link by chance?
Now, it is hard for me to tell. Are they men wearing masks or something else?
And cant wait to see em painted. :-)

Thanks Grimm.

Pictures in my Fantasy WIP Thread (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=47374.0) might serve what you were looking for.  His legs are a little bit short, but not terribly so.  I can live with it, especially since if I bother to change it I might as well just sculpt the whole thing... Lol.

Finaly got my (simple) supermutant Jotun conversion painted.
drilled a whole in the hand, created hear from fine copperwire that I glued to a Mantic ghoul head and used a GW Ork arm with shotgun from the bitz box.
the torso on the base is from the Army Painters' body parts blisters, just added a bit of GS entrails (not real happy with how that turned out, might have to reconsider what clours I use on that).

And another one done (well, nearly, just need to paint the rim of the base and add some dried grass)
This is a Dreamblade mini (Butcher) that got a GW orc hand w/ bolter and a GW Space Marine hand holding a scatchbuilt rebar club.
I also cut away the buttoned front of the shirt to represent his bare chest.

This is one of the latest conversions I've done. It was for a 'Slann' Blood Bowl team, using W40k Kroot minis for all positionals (humanoid shape with bird like heads) , and I needed the Big Guy to look like he was part of the same specie.
The model (a skaven WFB Rat Ogre), had pretty much what I needed except for the head, so I've sculpted it.

If you care to see the rest of the team of see it painted, please check out this blog post:

Very much liking the Dredd & Anderson minis; I've just watched that film, thought Karl Urban did an excellent job as Dredd.

These are my first proper, break out the razor saw, conversions of 20mm minis; a spare parts mash up to get something to count as RhSAS:

(http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp115/Ash-2-photos/Rhodesian/RhSASParaRPDfrontLR_zps53436b13.jpg) (http://s403.photobucket.com/user/Ash-2-photos/media/Rhodesian/RhSASParaRPDfrontLR_zps53436b13.jpg.html)

The RPDs are a tad too big and with hindsight the sling, on the bloke on the left, should look less crap, but it would wreck the paint to try to remove it now. His left hand could also do with a thumb!

the conversion work for my goblin king on a wyvern.
I thought it would be better with straps to secure a saddle, and functional-looking reins.
he also needed an elevated base, and he's got a banner pole- a tube at the back of the saddle that I'll be able to insert & remove the banner, for easier transport.

Brilliant! I did something similar (but not as well) with that same model about twenty years ago. Something else I did was insert shaved-down cocktail sticks into the mouth as sharp fangs. They were a complete pain!

Did some Tekumel snakemen conversions (finally)... kindly donated by Sir Barnaby Hammond-Rye. I was going to post in that particular thread but it seems to have been archived quite some time ago. Sorry for the delay but my current rate of modelling and painting can be best described as tectonic. :(

Anyways, thought it might be interesting to show a couple of pics before painting, so as better to see how I converted them. Originally they have tendrils instead of hands. I used some handy (pun intented) parts from the plastic bits box, and cannibalised some arms from Mantic zombies and a GW Hobbit plastic goblin set that I bought from a forum member. I am quite pleased with how I got them fit with a bit of greenstuff and wiring. Those two-handed pole carriers can be a pain to set, but I think they look pretty natural.

My latest conversions which is yet to be finished is a scatchbuilt Mortar for my Dwarf army. I never understood why that technoligical inferior Empire had one and Dwarves didn`t. Its mostly Parts from different Warmachines and Dwarf Warriors. My aim was to make it a seamless as possible and make it blend in with the current Line of WHFB Dwarf Warmachines.

Looking good. That's the trick with doing your own sculpting - you can't do it all in one sitting (as you have to wait for layers to dry before you can build on top of them).

Here's my latest effort (not quite finished). First four are supposed to be Rhodesian troops still with their jump helmets on. These 20mm blokes were/are the generic NATO troops from Elhiem, I just removed the butt packs and replaced with pouches, then filed down the helmets to look more like WW2 Brit para helmets.

I love this. Head from a reaper chronopia miniature? Where is the body from?

Sorry for the late response.
Yes, head is from Reaper.
Body was taken from the Malifaux "Ronin".
Once a female, removed the head and changed the female breast into a male one ;)

Came out nice

Hello all

After discovering this thread and seing the lovelly conversions you all made, i couldnt resist so here is my latest one.
The model is a Black Tree Design norman character that the original (on the left) had a hawk in his left arm and i´ve decided to remove it and place a shield so here is the result.

Cheers

Hello all

Thankyou for the comments Comsquare.
Another one made today.
This time a greek cavalrymen transformed in a roman mounted citizen/ganger.
Body of a greek, head from a WF roman, hand with sword from a plastic cesarian roman from Wargames factory.

Cheers

and some other little conversions - two headswaps and bayonets cut off
(http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac61/former user_the_anarchist/SALE/IMG_0540.jpg)

and here is a thing that bothers me:
the Narvik Foreign Legion is supposed to have MAS 36 carbines (far right), which should be broader and considerably shorter than the Lebel rifles of the others on the pictures. I originally intended to cut the lebels to carbine length (which I did for another unit), but now I am in doubt....
and I surely won't cut 20+ MAS 36 to size just for..... button counting.. :?

Great conversion! what kind/brand of green stuff do you use?

Sylmasta Kneadite (it's the cheapest I could find) ;P

it's more to do with getting the right balance of yellow to blue than the brand, different ballances work well with different textures and timing. Often best to let it cure a bit before sculpting in the detail but the timings depend on your mix; always something ye need to experiment with. :)
Title: Re: Latest conversion done
Post by: traveller on August 29, 2015, 07:03:59 AM
Yours looks very crisp and textured while mine usually is much more solid and hard to work with. Thanks for the advice, I obviously need to do some experimenting... ;)

Previews of coming attractions.

Some of you may have noted the conspicuous absence of Nazis from an otherwise substantial collection of 30's pulp stuff (thread here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=63559.0). Partly this is because all the best Wehrmacht figures are in smaller scales, like 25mm or really runty 28mm, so it's very tough to find Germans who fit with my bigger stuff. There are some larger ones, but are mostly crap quality and have issues (like only having late-war uniforms which are all wrong and need heavy conversion).

I use a pretty wide variety of figures, with varying sizes, so in some cases I can use a small figure anyway and say it's just a little dude (for instance my Nazi leader is a shortarse), but having a Nazi battalion of nothing but five-foot tall guys is just not on, so the Nazis went on the back burner. Over a longer period I've collected a variety of figures from different sources, a couple of nice bigger figures which were one-offs here and there, along with some of the crap-quality bigger figures which I am probably going to do surgery on to fix up (headswaps for some nice GW heads, better legs, etc.). I've finally reached the point where I'm close to having enough figures, so I've started actually doing the work.

This is a relatively small figure who will function as the Nazi's go-fer (secretary, clerk, photographer, living languages translator, etc.). She was originally from some she-wolf pack and had an undersized MP40, which I cut away and replaced with a Luger and a variety of gear. The old stock of the MP40 will now stand in as a camera flash. The camera itself took entirely too long to make... though even now, I'm looking at the left most strap and thinking there ought to be a buckle or something visibly connecting it to the camera.

For pulp, I have generic workers, and I have a variety of more upper class types, but I noticed I was actually missing any sort of in-between types - the middle-class working man. A foreman for the workers, a decently-off farmer, someone of that ilk.

Had some American heroes among the Copplestone packs and found one that converted perfectly. The fellow on the left here:

Became this fellow here:

Removed the lemon-squeezer and six gun, added a common fedora, as well as a pipe and mustache (I didn't have anything against the cigar the original figure was smoking, but it had been smashed, so I replaced it with a pipe, which seemed to fit better).

Might do something similar with the not-Indy from the same pack, since I have a much better not-Indy from another manufacturer.

Correct. I popped in an L-shaped bit of wire, then added a tiny blob of putty on the end and shaped it to fit. A bit fiddly, but it works.

Hello quite new to the site but saw this thread and thought ye might want to see something I converted for frostgrave, it's a plastic Perry knight that I worked in a bit of a dark souls theme on.

Was scrolling backwards through the thread when I saw this guy. Excellent work!

Praise the Sun!

I've gone conversion crazy after diving headfirst into Inq28 and the fantasy equivalent.

This chap has the legs and arms of an ECW parliamentatian, the torso of a Zulu wars British Line infantryman and gubbins from all over the shop.

This chap was a miscast Black Scorpion cowboy; some sculpting and parts donated from a few other kits gave me a version of the WFRP Ratcatcher.

There's a load more WiP shots on the blog here: http://critfailure.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/the-drift-part-i.html
 (http://critfailure.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/the-drift-part-i.html)

The third one was a bit more ambitious: I used a lot of brass rod and wire in order to create the servo-skull, alongside parts from the zombies and catachan kits.

And this was the first one to be painted:

Some very nice conversions and painting (and you took plenty of photos which is great for us to appreciate it). I'd only recommend cleaning up some of those mold lines with a needle file.

About time to post something new here on this fine thread  :)

After watching the movie recently, and reading the books I decided I need a fantasy-version of him for Relicblade.
Here he is, "Old Man Logan":
(http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt196/Comsquare/fdef6861-ee04-4660-8a64-f025bc1d2c6a_zpsoklnzahu.jpg) (http://s611.photobucket.com/user/Comsquare/media/fdef6861-ee04-4660-8a64-f025bc1d2c6a_zpsoklnzahu.jpg.html)

Nothing special, very simple conversion, but I love the result  ;)

Nice. What was the original figure? Guy with an axe?

2-handed sword ;)

Was wondering if I should convert the left hand so that it shows his back, though.

The original mini is a Rackham Kelt:

Okay so it's only a small conversion 15mm small but a head swap, I have some Rebel Minis police figures and I want to have some State Troopers, so using some WW I Dough Boy heads wearing campaign hats from Peter Pig I was able to make a nice set of figures,

here is a comparison of the Rebel Mini figure on the left and My head swap version on the right.

Here is the set all finished and painted as Minnesota State Troopers.

Thanks for looking

Another small head swap. I didn't care to much for this figure and how he turned out.

Using a head with a baseball cap from Peter Pig.

I came up with this guy.

He is my "Burt Gummer" for "Tremors" games. I plan to use more of the heads with baseball caps on more Rebel Minis "Police" figures to make a couple of "Armed Forest Rangers/Park Police" or "Game Wardens"

Thanks again for looking.

An inspiring thread always worth coming back to. One of mine from a  few years back. He is a Dwarf for fantasy WW1. I made him a Russian so that he could provide support for my British looking Kindred (from Hasslefree.) Big crossbow became an anti-tank rifle, trench coat and fur hat added in greenstuff.

Just come across this thread for the first time. Occasionally I dabble in a bit of conversion but not very often, so I give you one I did some time ago.

Starting with a Foundry Landsknecht command figure like this one:

I needed to make a Cardinal Matthaus Schiner for Marignano 1515. The hat is a shield.

Note the nose extension, he had a huge conk. (At least I think that's what it said).

And the finished command stand featuring, the wonderfully conniving, Schiner.
