Title: Tjubs 15mm blog
Post by: tjub on September 13, 2018, 05:25:10 AM
Thought Id might as well start a blog here, trying to actually get some paint on these guys and make an army out of them. Experimented with a brighter paint theme on the new white metal Tjublings.
Went with square bases for 15mm KoW or Vanguard.

Run for cover!
Painted up a "Thunder hammer rocket". Based on a 2,5x2,5 base for 15mm KoW. Decided to go back to the original color scheme for the army. :)

Lovely painting, they look good on individual bases  :)
Been tempted by these for a while, I don't suppose you have any size comparison shots with other 15mm stuff?

Edit: Also out of interest are you planning to keep expanding this range with more war machines etc?

Yes, I plan to expand the range a lot. I enjoy doing these too much to quit. :P Got 30+ concepts to be honest, quite a few of those warmachines but hobgoblins and more Tjubling troop types as well. Next up will be centaurs, including a centaur war machine.

Here they are compared with Demonworld Dwarves. They are greens and the casts may come out a teeny weeny bit smaller, but hardly noticeable.

Here they are with a few other ranges I had available.

The Bull Centaurs look really good!

Thanks for the comparison shots tjub, looks like they should scale nicely with most of the demonworld range, I shall likely put in an order in the next few weeks... ;)

Mighty tjub,

Lord of lords, vanquisher of the peaceful Pygmies, conqueror of the northern and the southern lands,

Thank you for bringing your light to this place!

I love your models and have posted a few in my 15mm thread. They are awesome.

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=108985.0

By now I have many more tjublings ready, but we are currently moving to a new house and I haven’t been able to paint since weeks!

The new sculpts are brilliant anyway and I’ll get mine as soon as we have a new home!

Which rules are you using for them? Ill be building mine for 15mm Kings of War and Vanguard primarily, but might try some on round bases as well and go for some 15mm Frostgrave adapted for the Ashlands.

Those characters are really brilliant!

I base mine currently on cents and plan to use them for some good Oldhammer fun. We tried it already with 10mms based as blocks and just noted the casualties with little dice - it works brilliantly!

Take your favourite Warhammer Edition (mine would be 4 or 5), replace all inches by centimeter and

- EITHER play on a smaller tabletop; a standard IKEA kitchen table suddenly will become a huge battlefield without looking crowded
- OR play on a really large tabletop for 28mm and start very far away, but double or triple the turns of the game. --> Dont forget a good number of terrain in this case.

It was incredible fun when we tried it and gave many units like skirmishers and light cavalry great new uses and it felt much more like a real battle!

KoW is nice but to gamey for me. We tried it and it was great, but then I played against someone who measurd every move moved just 2mm outside my arrow range etc... not my cup of tea.

Frostgrave on the other hand would sound like a lot of fun.

Cool, more or less as we do around here. Guess its the same with any game, its all about setting your own meta with a group and how you want to play a game. :)
Tried both 6mm and 10mm before, but found 15mm to be in the perfekt spot. Still fun to paint and great to play.

Anyway, got some more paint on the characters during the weekend. A Lord/hero and a sorcerer.

Jupp, I really should make some statues of petrified sorcerers etc. :)

So, finally had our first game of 15mm Vanguard. Great fun, like the rules a lot! Only thing is that we have to make character cards as in the 28mm version of the game so we don't have to put all the tokens on the table.

For people looking for a fast paced skirmish with a lot of tactical options, rules for equipment and campaigns etc I can recommend it! :)

Nope, those are Demonworld Goblins available from RPE http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk best 15mm fantasy range there is IMO. So much character, would love to one day be able to create something that level!

Jepp, they will be available through Admiralty Miniatures Etsy. But since Im not running AM Im not sure when etc. My guess would be late spring/early summer. For more information regarding AM you can follow them on FB www.facebook.com/AdmiraltyMiniatures/ . But Im sure Ill post painted versions here once Ill start to add them to my army. :)

Dun-Khan - Lord of the Storm
Not the greatest among the Tjubgobs but without doubt the most feared, Dun-Khan leads a huge coalition of tribes referred to as the Storm. Dun-Khan has carved out a reputation as a ruthless warlord, who once had three betrayed allied chieftains bind and skin each other alive as they desperately begged for mercy, with the last remaining chieftain being force-fed his own large collection of knives and daggers. At another occasion, Dun-Khan fed poison into choice leaders of a rival tribe, thus sparking a stabbing frenzy around campfires as kinsfolk accused each other of betrayal. This served to weaken his enemy, and allowed for the malignant warlord to move in and scoop up the survivors of the bloodbath into his own growing ranks.

Such methods marked out Dun-Khan as a respected leader of Tjubgoblins, yet what earned his fame among the lordly Tjublings was when he on his own initiative dealt with the huge savage hordes of the Orc Gazrak the Ravager. Dun-Khan did this by ambushing and stealing away with a number of large Orc foraging parties, who were then promptly mutilated into large bits, each piece of forearm, thigh, foot and head being impaled on a stake all its own. One moonless night of howling winds and whipping rain, the Tjubgobs under Dun-Khan’s command toiled furiously and in devious silence with erecting a circle of grisly trophies around the Orc camp, leaving the loose fence open at one end. The Tjubgobs then lit fires under the impaled bits.

When the warlike nomads woke at crimson dawn, their eager nostrils and empty guts were greeted by the wafts of cooking meat, yet this teasing hunger only increased the horrible spectacle of their own kin butchered into bits and impaled in pieces, all around them. The rumbling guts turned it to an even greater panic, once the Orcs observed what was being cooked up for them. So much so that they forgot all about breaking camp and just bolted! The superstitious Orcs left camp in a violent haste to get out of this ring of death and bad luck, and the entire horde darted for the exit in the fence and kept running straight ahead, wild-eyed and panicked, thus heading down into an ashen canyon known as the Cleaver Wound. This wadi became the grave of the rampaging Orcs, for the building storm unleashed the full fury of its hellish weather, and the Orcs were swept away, drowned and dashed to pieces against dark rock walls as onrushing water masses stampeded down the Cleaver Wound. Thus ended a scourge of the Ashlands.

As a token of gratitude he was gifted the Stormbringer by the ruling sorcerer lords of Tjubba-Tjubbuz. Stormbringer is a mighty mace capable of striking any foes that come close with bolts of lightning!

Among common Tjubgobs Dun-Khan is seen as a divine being, maybe even a manifestation of the great wind demon himself...

Volsnik Smokebreath
An infamous Tjubgoblin shaman who has roamed the steppe for untold decades, striking fear and repugnance alike into all who behold his confusing manners and unhealthy body. No one knows how old he is, and no Tjubgob alive can remember a time when the scarred elders did not speak of this mysterious figure as someone who had wandered the wastes for as long as they ken. Volsnik is shunned by his own kin, as are so many shamans, yet many Tjubgoblins in trouble will inevitably seek him out in remote places, and perhaps invite him to the campfire by promises of roasted prey animals and captives to eat more or less alive. Often, those who approach Volsnik are ridden with sickness, or else they have ambitions both taller and more crooked than their felt caps. At other times they are paranoid over knives in the dark, which is admittedly a sensible mindset for any Tjubgoblin, because everyone, indeed, is actually out to get them!

If such maverick and desperate figures manage to appease the strange shaman by gifts and honeyed talk, they will be met by a fearful spectacle as the old Tjubgob inhale powders from his pouches, take deep breaths frantically, and work himself into a trance, often while ripping apart small creatures such as live rats or cockroaches to feed upon or use in weirder still ways for his ritual. Volsnik will then call upon the great wind demon with ululating chanting, his hoarse voice tearing at the ears of all nearby, until suddenly, his voice and stooped demeanour are all changed as the great wind demon possess him and fills his fragile frame with a fraction of its might. The possessed shaman’s back straightens out until fully erect, his shoulders square themselves, and his bearing and gestures become like nothing displayed out of trance by the decrepit old being. Thus invigorated and infused with a powerful spirit, Volsnik will talk with a strong voice in cryptic sentences, all the while deeply inhaling smoke from the campfire.
The words of the possessed Tjubgob will sometimes come across as instructions, at other times like riddles or an intense interrogation of those present, for the great wind demon is even more shifting and capricious than the supposedly mortal shaman it has taken hold of. Usually, the demonic harangue will transition into a majestic and terrible display, as Volsnik lets out a steady stream of curling smoke, a Smokebreath which does not cease and does not care for winds nor weather. For many minutes he will exhale without inhaling for a single moment, all the while breathing out smoke that whirls and form moving figures in the air. Often there will be scenes of vaguely shaped persons and beasts cajoling or struggling, or pointing out those present. At other times tendrils of this smoke will form gnarled grey hands that envelop around the throats of those present, or otherwise give signals with sooty fingers. The smoke visions come in varied myriad forms, for sometimes they will appear as silently screaming faces erupting out of the gaping mouths of other faces, At other times still, those witnessing this baleful act will see wolves of smoke springing from Volsnik’s mouth, to hound prey or lunge out at those present, or at non-present figures. Tales whispered in the saddle and around the campfires also speak of Tjubgobs choked to death by this smoke, or devoured whole.

Whatever the shape taken by these exhalations, no one has ever walked away from any of Volsnik Smokebreath’s trances unshaken. Indeed, the gnarled old shaman’s powers are so great that Tjubgoblin Khans are willing to offer him great spoils of war and Tjubling-crafted trinkets for Volsnik’s participation on the battlefield. In war, the magic of all Tjubgoblin shamans revolve around deceit, winds and smokescreens, with the lightning of storms being their main means of dealing damage to foes. For the sorcery of Tjubgob shamans taps into the howling steppe winds, whips up the blinding dust clouds, and draws forth the dark stormclouds to darken and befuddle their enemies, the better to outdeceive and ambush the victims of the Tjubgobs. The demons of the steppe are those of wind and dust clouds, and of smoke and lightning, for the blistering barrage of the elements wish to scour skin from flesh and flesh from bone in a merciless land where only the strong and the cunning may survive and prosper. For such is the unforgiving lands that shaped the Tjubgoblins, and such is the nature of these treacherous tribesfolk, and so, as follows, is their tricks and their sorcery. In trance, to the beating of drawn skin drums, and to the whirling smoke does Tjubgob shamans such as Volsnik Smokebreath ply their nefarious trade of storm and dusty winds, and woe betide those caught in their nets of shadows.

These two are Harpies from Ralparthas Demonworld range, added some greenstuff flames to make them fit a little bit more. They will primarily be used for Vanguard as Gargoyles for Abyssal Dwarfs.

Thanks! :)

Here are a bunch more, scimitars, two-handed hammer and command. Noticed that I had forgot the end/butt on some of the scimitars. Will have to add that... :P

Simply brilliant! Please make them available quickly. I’m currently in a painting break as my wife gave birth to a wonderful little Chaos Dwarf princess in 530mm scale ( :o yeah... I know, try to get some terrain for that size!), but I wanna finish my army as soon as possible!

Thanks! If it would be up to me they'd be available tomorrow, but Im not running Admiralty Miniatures so I will have to wait as well. Need those pesky meat shields for my army! Been working on some various critters...

Beyond soaring mountains lie the vast Ashlands, a harsh patchwork of landscapes varying from steppe to lava pools and giant briar forests, cut through by dry wadis, gaping earthquake fissures and unclean streams alike, and dotted by oases that are all too often toxic. Foreigners' babbling rumours has it that this is nought but an empty desert - nay, it is hell on earth, a realm of smoke where daemons in towering headgear cavort in fields of fire!

Yet in these nightmarish environs, life is still to be found, far more plentiful and rich in shapes and species than one would expect of such inhospitable wastelands. These are all rugged lifeforms, made deadly or cunning or wretched to survive and prosper in such dangerous lands.

On the southern Bonefields, the fabled Bak-kak-ku bird hunt and breed, infamous for its aggressive temper and sought after as a monstrous mount by Tjubgob riders.

Dreaded Bonestingers skitters on the Bonefields among the graveyards of monsters, their bodies shaped like skulls, ever the main prey of the Bak-kak-ku.

Floating on hot streams of air are to be found the Yri-Moss-Han, great creatures resembling jellyfish with paralyzing tentacles, which Tjubgob shamans collect to chew on, in order to increase their magical potential and open up their minds.

The Wanderlust Fungus is an insidious horror of the Ashlands, for it infects living beings and alters their personalities until the host body is little more than an empty shell wandering about the wasteland, until they come across optimal conditions for founding a new colony of fungi.

All over the Ashlands can be found Trailers, slightly resembling armadillos and turtles. These tough scavengers are attracted to caravans, and will eat almost anything left over by the caravan. The longer a caravan has travelled, the more Trailers follow in its wake.

Not all life in the Ashlands has a beating pulse, nor even a breath. The winding way to the Plateau of Madness is guarded by the Watchers of Zhubb, groups of ancient stones shackled together, possessing eyes that strike terror into all wanderers. Few can gather the courage to approach them, and fewer still to meet their many-eyed gaze. These mysterious rocks are old beyond the reckoning of mortals, mute witnesses to forgotten secrets...

Such are some of the flora and fauna in the Ashlands.

Wrote this on another forum(http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com) on how we do 15mm Kings of War...

Tjublings - a journey into 15mm Kings of War
Since I've got the question about what is out there for 15mm and how we play 15mm KoW. I've written a quick article about it meant as an introduction, please post any feedback or questions below. :hat off

First off there are several systems which are popular in 15mm, both for Skirmish and Rank ’n’ File. I will be focusing on Kings of War and Vanguard, both done by Mantic. Among others are: Horde of Things, Battle Valor, Dragon Rampant, Song of Blades and Heroes, Frostgrave etc.

Kings of War handles your bigger battles with 50+ infantry while Vanguard deals with those minor skirmishes taking place before the main battle. Be it scouting, raiding and so on. They both tie in together for a more narrative approach to your wargaming, where Vanguard supports with an experience system, individual equipment etc.

The basic rules are free for both systems and can be found over at Mantic Games: http://www.manticgames.com/free-rules.html
While the free rules are great to get to know the game before you commit to it, you will eventually want to buy the rules. To get the full core rules of the game you will need the Rulebook for KoW2.0 as well as Uncharted Empires for those extra army lists not covered in the Rulebook. Each year Mantic releases a Clash of Kings pack which cover minor updates to army lists to balance the meta as well as updated magic items, spells, legendary characters, formations etc. Each Clash of Kings collects all previous updates to the game, so you will only ever need the most up to date, Clash of Kings 2019(CoK19)

Armylist building
Easy Army is free and has a free army builder for both Kings of War and Vanguard. Which I strongly recommend, because it includes all rules as well as updates from CoK and give you a printable pdf with handy rule sections for the units chosen:
http://www.easyarmy.com/

Basing
First of all I want to say that we don’t play competitive games in my circle of friends. KoW is a good game for such, and has a great tournament scene. But you will have to be a bit more careful when scaling down to get the exact translation. As long as your group agrees on a meta you should be just fine. In my gaming group we simply convert inch to cm, which is easy and works great.

For all bases we use 2mm MDF. We buy our bases from Warbases. https://warbases.co.uk/

For basing material we use Woodland Scenics Fine Turf which are available in several different colours. Here I recommend to coat with PVA and flock, once dry mix ¼ PVA and ¾ Water. Soak the flock and flock again. This gives a much richer basing and cover any edges from tabs on models etc. Link to tutorial. (http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3630&pid=287566#pid287566)
Woodland Scenics (https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/category/FineTurf)

Nerve/damage markers
In KoW you track the amount of damage a unit has taken, and take a Nervtest to see if the unit breaks/flees.
To track the damage taken by a unit we use 5mm dice placed behind the units. Seen on some of the photos below. Simply add them up.
Dice and diceholders are available from Pendraken. I would recommend a two sets of 10 dice and one set each of the double and tripple frames.
https://pendraken.co.uk/dice-frames/5mm/

Lore
The lore in Kings of War is a bit weak compared to Warhammer, but it’s been deepening a lot in recent year and given time it will be a good setting as well. There is nothing preventing you from setting your battles in the Old World or creating your own setting.

There are a few Novels available for KoW from Mantic, other than that the lore is sprinkled throughout the books.

Campaigns
There are several ways to run a campaign using Kings of War/Vanguard. Either there is the Destiny of Kings Campaign supplement. Or older CoK has rules for both campaigns as well as an experience system for your units. Vanguard of course has its own campaign system with links to KoW as well. Where your different Vanguard missions directly affects your KoW battles.

In 2018 Mantic ran their Edge of the Abyss summer campaign which was a success and brought the lore of KoW forward. They have promised to follow up on more campaigns in the future.

CoK19 brought the Siege Rules to KoW as well, which we have not yet been able to try out.

About once a year there is a Kings of War International Campaign Day which I can’t recommend enough! Join the group on Facebook for more info. https://www.facebook.com/groups/USKoWCampaignDay/

Miniatures
Obviously I recommend the Tjublings as Abyssal Dwarfs. :P https://www.etsy.com/se-en/shop/AdmiraltyMiniatures
For Obsidian Golems/Fire Elementals the "Adult Demonic Elementals" from PuppetsWar.eu are great! https://puppetswar.eu/models-and-bits-46/fantasy/adult-demonic-elementals.html
For non evil dwarf related models I prefer the Demonworld range by RalPartha. http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/demonworld-15mm-c-76/

If you join the "15mm Fantasy Gaming" on Facebook there is a long list of 15mm ranges/reseller available.

Terrain
Usually we set up a table that we think looks good and then rolls to see what mission we will play. But for a more competitive game I recommend having a look at Epic Dwarf’s Map Packs. http://www.epicdwarf.com/

There are several manufacturers of great terrain out there. But Dragonfrog Games is a favourite of mine for the Tjublings. I can recommend their sets a lot. https://www.dragonfroggames.co.uk/store/index.php?page=15mm-laser-cut-mdf-buildings

Resources avaliable from Mantic
Quote
The main rulebook for Kings of War 2.0. This it what you will want once you have tried out the free rules. It contains all the rules explained, a bit of lore and army lists for: Forces of the Abyss, Forces of Nature, Undead, Dwarfs, Elves, Abyssal Dwarfs, Goblins, Orcs, Ogres, Basileans and the Kingdoms of Men.

Quote
Uncharted Empires, contains army lists for: The Brotherhood, Salamander Armies, The Herd, The League of Rhordia, The Trident Realms of Neritica, The Empire of Dust, Night-Stalker Armies, Ratkin Armies and the Varangur. As well as some background for each faction and some "new" army wide faction rules.

Quote
Clash of Kings 2019. Contains the rules and scenarios for Siege games. KoW balance updates, "new" units, Living Legends and Formations for all armies. New/updates spells and artifacts. As well as the introduction ofLegendary spells and new/updated competitive scenarios for 2019.

Quote
Clash of Kings 2018 Note that this book is considered obsolete with CoK19 rulewise Contains the  conclusion to the Edge of the Abyss campaign, new maps and lore. "New" units and Living Legends from the Edge of the Abyss campaign, as well as formations for all armies currently without. 2018 updates for spells and items as well as 2018 versions of the competitive scenarios.

Quote
Clash of Kings 2017 Note that this book is considered obsolete with CoK19 rulewise. This was the first CoK and focused a lot on how to organize a tournament and a league. There are some good ideas on how to grow your games, as well as a Experience system for your units and characters. Thoughts about terrain in a tournament. And ideas/guidelines for creating your own units in Kings of War.
And of course updates for the 2017 meta with, characters, units etc.

Quote
KoW Battlefield Cards. These are fun and my group tends to use it alot for casual games. As longs as you agree on forehand you can use some of the rules/cards for normal CoK missions as well. "Objectives" these cards more or less lets you design your own missions by drawing cards and choosing a primary objective for the battle as well as a secondary objective reviled during the course of the battle. Also include "Battlefield Conditions" which can have none or a big impact on the battle, fog, rain etc. "Strategy" gives you small hand of cards which can be played for effects during the battle to tweak the course.

Quote
Edge of the Abyss. Mantics first global campaign that run during summer/autumn of 2017. Mantic used the outcome of this campaign when they progressed their lore for the game. The campaign ended with overall "good" victories except in a few areas which brought the Nightstalkers to have bigger impact, flooding the Abyss, forced the free dwarves to flee unto the dwarven empire etc.
EofA Campaign brought formations, scenarios as well as Living legends for most armies. All of which are collected in the latest CoK.

Quote
The Destiny of Kings - Kings of War Campaign Supplement. Contains different ways/ideas how to structure and set up your own campaigns as well as "The Quest of the Necromancer Campaign". Some senarios include Mantics Dungeon Saga, they could pretty easily be translated be played with Vanguard instead.

Quote
Kings of War - Historical. This is not a historical war-game as much as a way to expand your setting and include Historical armies if you want to. For example the Romans have a generic roman feel to the army rather than correct fromations for all the specific time periods of the Roman Empire. That said, of you ever wanted to field Romans vs Goblins etc this is a fun book. Also contains some interesting rule concepts/ideas for your games like "skirmishers" and "up hill charges" and a few scenarios etc. There is also a list for "mythical" creatures to be used with the historical armies.

Quote
Hellfire and Stone. H&S is a narrative campaign for Kings of War 1, featuring an epic conflict between Dwarfs and Abyssal Dwarfs. As well as six scenarios that link up the story of the campaign, Living Legends etc.
Thought this campaign is set for the first version of KoW its easily adopted for KoW2, since its a campaign I guess its mostly interesting for players who have a more narrative approach to the game and want to refight that conflict.

Quote
Vanguard. Even they the basic Vanguard rules are free, you will eventually want to get the full advanced rules.
These will let you play out the actions taking place before the main battles. Be it plundering an enemy camp, burning their stores, opening a portal, stealing information or assassination of an enemy commander etc.
This book includes all of the core rules for playing Vanguard, including unit entries, scenarios, campaign system, advanced spells and abilities, and rules for tying your games into Kings of War.
Be aware though that Vanguard is a "living game" with new units added every now and then. Rules for these new models/factions are available with the models OR FREE AT Easy Army Vanguard (http://vanguard.easyarmy.com).

Been painting up some of the terrain I bought from Dragonfrog Games (https://www.dragonfroggames.co.uk/store/index.php?page=15mm-laser-cut-mdf-buildings). Bought one each of their 15mm MDF sets for the Dwarf-line and Ziggurats, that resulted in a smaller city. So this is just a first batch. :D
The sets over all need some extra detail, but that's to be expected given material and price. So I'll probably add some stuff to them later on. But really satisfied over all with them and how they paint up. Black base and a few dry-brushes of grey. If someone is looking for 15mm Tjubling/Dwarf terrain I recommend giving this range a look!
The square buildings are fully modular so it can be build as either several smaller houses or towers etc, really nifty. :hat off

The Tjubgob "Storm dancer cannon" was originally designed as a cruel joke by the Tjubling masters. But it soon became evident to them that the Tjubgobs viewed it as a blessing to be touched by the Storm Demon himself. The Tjubgob Shamen tell stories of great honor, but the actuall dancer seldom survives long enough to tell his story about the encounter...  o_o

15mm Hobgoblin/Tjubgob Thunderhorn.
"Communication is everything to the efficiency of a Tjubgob horde. Their best Warchiefs have always been those able to quickly convey orders and scout reports where they are needed. Whistling arrows and couriers riding with several Wargs to change between are part of this apparatus. One peculiar device of communication is the Thunder Horns, whose noise may be enchanted in strange ways by Tjubgob Shamen for battlefield duty. Thunder Horns instil some semblance of bravery into the craven hearts of Tjubgob warriors, while enemies shiver at their mighty din."

I play alot of 15mm Kings of War these days, so I thought I needed some proper rules for the Tjubgobs as well. It's worth to mention as well that I aim to cover all of the army entries through Admiralty Miniatures (http://leadadventureforum.com/www.facebook.com/AdmiraltyMiniatures/) as well, most of which have already been sculpted (and will be released in the fullness of time). The Tjubgob lore has been a co-operation between Mathias and myself.

The Tjubgobs are considered to be an Evil army closely allied to the Tjublings/Abyssal Dwarfs.

200pts Kings of War - Vanguard, Abyssal Dwarfs vs Dwarfs - "the Dragon's Egg"

Hade two great games of 15mm KoW Vanguard yesterday, the first was ”the Dragon Egg”. Where some Dwarf rangers were about to rob the nest of a dragon, but were intercepted by Chaos Dwarfs which had other plans...
Epic moments were when the mother dragon came down to roast one of the rangers and the oh so brave Dwarf Captain on a boar tried to ride down the K’daii.
Once the battlefield was secure and the last Dwarfs had fled the Chaos Dwarfs sent the remaining flee bitten slave orc to capture the egg... The dragon will be raised to Hashuts honor! :hat off

Deployment, with the ranger about the get the egg.

...which was solved by the mother dragon her self luckily, badly hurting one of the Rangers.

Mayhem breaks out as the Dwarfs are eager for battle and counter charges!

Meanwhile Sir Ulf the Boartamer tries to ride down the K'daii by himself, which despite Sir Ulf being a capable dwarf with a mighty axe didn't end well for him...

The two Rangers are struggling with the egg, which now seems to be a race against time with the Chaos Dwarfs quickly decimating their forces!

When one of the Rangers flee the battle the remaining wounded one are quickly stricken down by the surviving flea-bitten slave orc. Which is ordered to secure the dragons egg with the Chaos Dwarfs surveilling on a safe distance should the mother return... :hat off

This looks absolutely brilliant! I love the smaller scales because they give you such a good idea of sizes of terrain and monsters. Much better imho than traditional 28mm. And your tabletop is simply beautifully painted.

Thanks, and I agree. Still play some 28mm but 15mm has been the main scale for years now. Love it!  :-*

200pts Kings of War - Vanguard, Abyssal Dwarfs vs Dwarfs

Our second Vanguard fight for the evening. The original plan was to follow up the first skirmish with a Kings of War battle and use the "hook/bonus" described in the senario for the upcomming battle. But since we havent played alot of Vanguard and it was great fun, we decided to go with another skrimish to get all the rules down.

The second senario was "The Power Stones", ancient nodes of power located across the land. These stones give in game benefits to magic users and leaders if they are close by.
Since we hadnt really planed for two Vanguard skirmished we used the same warbands as before.

...again the Dwarfs made good use of the Rangers which already had located the objective and claimed two of the three. Our proud Chaos Dwarf forces had to leg it up the battlefield to contest them. Of course we made good use of the slave orcs again and forces one of them to run up to the big objective disregarding the enemy forces. I was obviously a worthless slave anyway since he didnt survive contact with the enemy forces, but it was a good plan none the less since it hindered the Dwarfs from securing the big objective in the center. Leaving the first turns of battle with both forces wrestleing for control of the big center objective and securing one each of the smaller stones.

Having made quick work the slave orc the Dwarfs had the curage up and Ulf the Dwarf commander ordered them to take positions around the big objective. The bold Dwarf was a fool though. It should be noted that one shall always send the disposable slave troops first. A lesson our brave Chaos Dwarfs taught well, the K'daii charged forward to meet the Dwarf commander in single battle again. After both sides exhausted themselfs Ulf finally fell of his pig once again... With their commander slayed and the Chaos Dwarfs engageing all along the line the battle was soon over. The Rangers managed to slay the K'daii before the both fell to our axes. The only surviving Dwarf was Freddy 'the oh not so brave' Stonepriest who managed to outrun our more heavily armed forces...

The powerstone are secured and our sorcerors have started to tap into their power for their summoning rituals...
In the heat of the battle we kinda forgot to take pictures. :cheers :hat off

Painted up a bunch of generic Hobgoblins for Admiralty Miniatures (https://www.facebook.com/AdmiraltyMiniatures/) Kickstarter, but haven't really decided where to go with them for my own army yet. Considering a more uniform look to them, Im sure the Tjubling overlords won't stand for that rag tag look they normally display.
Theme here is very much inspired by the Great Khan himself! Thoughts/feedback?

Brilliant idea!

I guess there should be Pyramids from even older times or Ziggurats of the Ancients somewhere in Chaos Dwarf country to be an equivalent to frost grave.

If Chaos Dwarfs are a mixture from Late Medieval (.) Turks and Assyrians, well there must be a Bronze Age civilization under their cities!

Jupp, something like that. Haven't really decided if and how much I want to mix it up with old Warhammer stuff. Been looking at a lot of Ian Miller artwork lately, so tempted to try something out that at least lean that way. :)

Ah, it was our first skirmish for Frostgrave. So we just took what we had available, reading the rules the size of the area didn't matter that much. We will probably use a bit bigger next time, but my guess would be about 16".
Infantry models are based on 1,5cm squares and we just use cm instead of inch.

My long time gaming friend and 15mm partner in crime have run series of battles and skirmishes following the "Edge of the Abyss Campaign" for Kings of War and Vanguard, which turned into a narrative campaign of sorts. The story so far can be seen at Chaos Dwarfs Online(link) (http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=9). And will lead to an adaptation of the Ice & Iron campaign soon to be released by Mantic.  :)

15mm KoW Vanguard - "Secure the Portal", 200pts Abyssal Dwarfs vs Dwarfs

Given the recent "guerrilla warfare" by the Dwarfs our conquering force in the Halpi Mountains are kept on high alert. We've had several smaller skirmishes on the mountain roads, but all of our patrols have come back and we believed the Dwarf forces to be dwindling without established supply routes.

So the attack on the temple area in Zar'Kraz came as a surprise. Somehow a small force of Dwarfs had managed to sneak thru our perimeter. Most probable the slave orcs weren't whipped hard enough to be kept awake. New routines have been ordered to our Hobgoblin overseers to make sure it won't happen again...

Praise Hashut the Dwarf force were spotted just in time by out temple guards! :hashut

The Dwarf attackers went straight for the Holy Flame of Krazz. Used by our sorcerers to summon the mighty K'daii into existence. The Dwarfs stormed the temple courtyard with bottles marked with strange runes. These will have to be investigated further!
The Dwarf wizard incinerated the closes slave orc, which made the second one hesitate a moment. Weak-minded maggot...

The Dwarfs quickly reached the Holy Flame of Krazz and started throwing their rune marked potions into it, which quickly made it dwindle and struggle. Being from the deepest parts of the Abyss, the Holy Flame of Krazz is almost to be considered demonic in itself. And quickly roasted one of the Dwarfs which got too close to it.

Our temple guards managed to cut down the Dwarfs surrounding the Flame of Krazz. Most likely the were caught by surprise that the Flame fought back for survival.
And our remaning troops engaged the other Dwarfs in the yard by brutal hand to hand combat.

In a moment of bravery seldom seen in the weaker races the Slave orc let out a howl, later interpreted as "Praise Hashut!", and charged towards the Dwarf wizard. Burying his axe deep into the chest of the Dwarf...

This made the remaning Dwarfs hesitate a bit, to keep fighting or flee. The Holy Flame of Krazz was almost dead and only a small flicker remained.

With the confusing and hesitation of the Dwarfs, our Bull Centaurs made quick work of the rest while the Dwarf Slayer in command managed to escape...

High Priest Zhurthar in a quick and heroic act, ordered the Bull Centaurs to feed the Flame of Krazz and promptly threw the remaning Slave Orc into the flames. Giving it new life and essence to feed on, there by saving the Holy Flame and securing the future summoning of K'daii in Zar'Kraz.''

Lately Ive been thinking a lot about making some terrain based on Ian Millers fantastic artwork. But that will require some planning, and though good looking not be as playable as Id prefer. So yesterday I just kinda started on a  Chaos Dwarf castle. The aim is to use it in Kings of War Seiges as well as KoW Vanguard and other skirmish rules.

So far Ive just built a "skeleton" and chopped up 200000 bricks. But I do love how doable it all is in smaller scales. So far an evenings work... :hat off

Btw, the wall sections will be about 6cm thick to allow units to be places on them. But Ill extend the last part with a wooden deck.

So after playing a handfull senarios of Vanguard we finally decided to try out the campaign rules in the book. They seem really cool, picking elements from other games such as Mordheim etc and also introducing new thins such as the Retinue and the ability to promote you characters etc. Wont go into it here, rules can be found in the Vanguard core book.
So far its been really enjoyable!  :-*
The prelude to the campaign can be found here ->http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=9 (http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=9)

Quote
(https://i.imgur.com/Jp5vyXF.jpg?1)

Storywise, following the "Edge of the Abyss" campaign the Halpi peninsula was cleared of free dwarfs by our troops. The cowards fled into Imperial Dwarf territory over the Great Cataract.
An agreement struck between leaders of the free dwarf clans and King Golloch lead to Imperial Dwarfs shipping and supplying an incursion of free Dwarfs to reclaim their lands in the Halpi peninsula. Of course King Golloch have no such plans for the campaign and simply see it as an opportunity to expand the empire or worst case get rid of the Free Dwarf clans who won't fold into his empire...

The incursion of the Free Dwarfs met with initial success at the coast and struck inland towards the newly established Abyssal Dwarf garrison/settlement of Kar'Kraz.
Our troops managed to get word of the coming attack and the battle for Kar'Kraz was won at the cost of more or less depleting our troops there. The Free Dwarfs suffered huge casualties as well and retreated up into their familiar mountainranges and old tunnels, falling back on guerrilla warfare harassing our troops at any chance they get.
Word was sent from Kar'Kraz to our twin cities, pride of our empire! And fresh troops and slaves are on their was south as we speak, to weed out the remaning Free Dwarfs before they can be resupplied from the coast.

Meanwhile in Kar'Kraz High Priest Zhurthar gathered a small force sent out to locate the dwarven camps and if possible destroy any pockets of resistance they might find...

The task was assign to one of our most ruthless Slavedrivers, Zharr'kus the Flayer. Who promptly whipped a force together and headed out in pursuit.

Not much is yet know about the forces of the Free Dwarfs, but a blond bearded individual with a blue cape has been sighted several times and is believed to be the character Freddy the Weakling. The competence and leadership of that individual is at best laughable and Zharr'kus task should be completed with in a few days at most.

Our slave troops tracked down the free dwarfs, and managed to catch a few of them of guard. While they were resupplying at one of their old hidden locations. No time was wasted and an attack was ordered while the Free Dwarfs were unprepared.

Senario Capture the Plans(or rather Free Dwarf maps and supplies) - 150pts
Forces chosen for the senario.

Both forces deployed diagonal opposite each other with 3 objectives between them. Two Free dwarf scouts were seen hiding behind the hill and rocks in the center. The aim of our forces was to spread out and try to secure as much terrain as possible until the "plans" were located.

Our clumsy slave troops made our forces and we were spotted by the dwarf scouts who sounded the alarm and alerted the rest of their troops in the area. The scouts quickly gathered their hidden stash and readied themselves to fall back. (Of course the plans were found by the scouts at the center location :o)

Our troops pushed forward, whips cracking and orders shouted at their lazy backs. Berzhakrrazh our gargoyle managed to just caught up with the dwarf scouts while dashing forward disregarding cover or its own safety. Almost makes one proud to see our maggots actually perform in battle for once. The Kdaii strode forward relentless despite taking several panicked arrows from behind the trees.

Berzhakrrazh lacked the ability to fend for itself and was disappointingly fast hacked down by the dwarf leader who charged. The nimble dwarf scout carrying the "plans" managed to sneak past the screen of troops before our Kdaii came crushing into their line, quickly smashing several free dwarfs to the ground. Of course the dwarfs couldn't stand before the might of our great flames of the holy Abyss!

The dwarf Levys fighting for their homes proved to be capable fighters though and kept resisting and poking the Kdaii with their spears. Sturdier than first thought, and Zharr'kus the Flayer noted that they'd probably make much better slaves than the ones at his command here.
The character recognized as Freddy the Weakling leapt out from the trees and blasted the slave hobgoblins with several fireballs scaring a few of them. While the dwarf scouts kept retreating...

After a long combat in the center the Kdaii flickered and vanished. Leaving behind several burnt and mutilated dwarf carcasses... Zharr'kus ordered the hobgoblin slaves to engage the dwarf leader and quickly take him out before they could escape with the "plans". But the dwarf leader had no pride what so ever and ran as quickly as he could after the scout...

Seeing the dwarf leader running up behind him the dwarf scout thought all to be lost, dropped everything he carried slowing him down and dissapeard...
While scrambling to secure the "plans" the dwarf leader was caught up by our pursuing slave troops just as the mountain fog rolled in. The useless slaves couldn't tell for sure weather the dwarf managed to secure the "plans" or if they were lost in the confusion that followed. Despite Zharr'kus whining them about all night in the fog nothing was found... Two more slaves were lost during the search, but that's the price they will have to pay for being utterly useless...

The senario ended in a Draw turn 6, seeing the dwarf scout failing 4! nerve test and heading of into the woods and leaving to dwarf leader unable to secure the "plans" while being in combat with the hobgoblins.

After the battle injuries were assessed and the dwarf healer managed to save the dwarfs from permanent damages, while Berzhakrrazh our Gargoyle suffered several deep wounds unable to be regenerated. Most probably due to the dwarfs being armed with runic weapons...

Both factions made camp, rested and resupplied. The dwarfs managed to scout out one of their old secret tombs containing the Obsidian Book of Secrets and the Abyssal Dwarfs received some basic supplies from Kar'Kraz.

Finished building the castle, measures about 30x30cm. Think I'll be adding some optional details like stars etc later for skirmish use.  :)

For the second skirmish in our Vanguard campaign we played "Light the Beacon". After locating one of the camps for the Free Dwarfs Zharr'kus the Flayer aimed to send a message to the forces in Zar'Kraz with their position, using one of the old signal beacons, before the Free Dwarfs were able to relocate their supplies.

Zharr'kus attack force 200pts.

Free Dwarf defenders 175pts.

The old signal beacon is located up the mountainside on a small hill overlooking the valleys bellow. Our Abyssal Dwarf forces slowly advanced from within the cover of the tree while the Free Dwarfs scrambled their forces to defend the area.

The Free Dwarfs ran towards the beacon trying to destroy it once the our plans were clear to them. The old stone structure which had stood for hundreds and hundreds of years proved sturdy enough, and not easily destroyed.
Our forces had to keep their hats down and slaves up front since the bolts from the Dwarf scouts were hitting the trees and stones around our forces.

Horoth, our bull centaur, tried to go for a flanking maneuver where the ground was flatter while our main force advanced straight at the beacon.

The Dwarf Scouts spotted Horoth as soon as he emerged form the tree line and the brave centaur raised his two handed hammer and charged them, while taking several bolts piercing his armor. And he fell badly wounded on our left flank.

Our slave troops proved useful soaking several bolts as well and even got a few of the younger free dwarfs leave their positions behind the rocks and attack them. Clearly visible to our warriors who readied themselves for a counter charge towards the exposed and exhausted Dwarf troops.

The character known as Freddy the Weakling was spotted once again, blasting several fire balls into our ranks before quickly hiding behind the rocks again.
Zharr'kus bakred an offer of gold to anyone who brought him the Dwarf priests head.

Once stuck in brutal melee the weaker Dwarfs proved no match for our sturdy forces, and they fell one by one... Forcing both the boar riding Dwarf commander and the dog handler to engage.
The Dwarf commander raised his axe and proclaimed "I Pallinor the brave will avenge my people!"
Zharr'kus observed the Dwarf commander being surrounded by his warriors, and Pallinor taking several blows by the heavy two handed hammer. Crushing both shield and armor...

To the left Ruzh'ark the Immortal made quick work with both the scouts and dog handler alike. Zharr'kus felt pride in his black heart, few stand against one of the Immortals and keep their life.

The cape of Freddy the weakling was seen again as he ran past the Beacon and up the mountain side leaving dead and wounded Dwarfs where they lay.
Realising Freddy the Priest had fled and his last two warriors were badly wounded Pallinor ordered the retreat. And the reamaing Dwarf forces scattered once again...

Zharr'kus made sure all the Free Dwarfs he could see were dead, but wasted no time pursuing the fleeing Dwarfs. The Beacon was light and the message to the main force was sent. It would only be a matter of time before these mountains and mines were cleared and could be claimed properly for his father, praise Hashut! :hashut
(https://i.imgur.com/dQhMW1B.jpg?1)

After the battle Zharr'kus force found baggage which presumed belonged to the Dwarf priest including several tomes and potions forwarded to our sorcerers for further investigation, as well as gold, gunpowder and other supplies.
Horoths damages proved to be too much and didn't heal well. While surviving , Horoth had to be transported back to Zar'Kraz.
Both sides suffered minor wounds which had to be tended and a general rest was ordered.
In the following days word reached Zharr'kus that the caravan to Zar'Kraz had been attacked by Free Dwarf raiders, though they had been able to fight of the attackers supply had been lost. Including the tomes and potions just found... This most likely wouldnt be a random raid, but had to be a targeted attack given how may warriors the Free Dwarfs had lost in the campaign so far. Those tomes and potions had the be more valuable to the Free Dwarfs than he first though.

Zharr'kus cursed these land and their old inhabitants... "Flay them all! Let them for ever fly in the wind over the lands they hold so dear."

For our third game i our Vanguard campaign we played "The Power Stones" with 200gc war bands chosen from our campaign forces.

Given our glorious victory in the last skirmish our main forces have been alerted and sent to clear out the area from the Free Dwarfs. The remaining task given to Zharr'kus the Flayer was to scout the area for any potential traps or hidden tunnels as well as engage any Free Dwarf troops they are able to locate.

The Power Stones are set to represent old Free Dwarf magical wardings, necessary to be razed before the main force arrive. Who knows exactly what power these rune filled stones might harbor.

A small band of Free Dwarfs held a defensive position on a hill just behind the stones. Initial reports led us to believe that this fore yet again was lead by the Free Dwarfs recognized as Plainor and Freddy the Weakling.

The Free Dwarfs were quick to capture both the center stone as well as the right stone. And immediately started to chant at their base which in turn made the stone to "hmmm".
Zharr'kus realised to Free Dwarfs used them as some kind of batteries taping into their power for the upcoming clash! These Free Dwarfs had to be engaged and cleared with haste.

Zharr'kus had sent one of his Blacksoul warriors on a flanking maneuver to hopefully draw as much attention away from his main force as possible. The Blacksoul managed to dodge several bolts for the Free Dwarf ranger as he made his advance up the field.

...and swiftly cut the Ranger in half with his axe once he got the chance to repay him.
Zharr'kus ordered the Slave orks to engage the Free Dwarfs to interrupt their rituals until the mighty Kdaii were in range to smash them. The plan worked perfectly and only taking a few casualties the slaves did their job until the true hammer of Hashut hit the Free Dwarfs and a long and fierce combat erupted around the main stone. Involving Palinor himself and the main bulk of both forces.

Despite being struck down several times. Palinor in a last effort managed to strike the Kdaii with his rune filled weapon and banish the fire creature from the field.
This left Zharr'kus no other option than to engage Palinor, trying to claim the dwarfs head for himself.

On the flank the brave and competent Blacksoul kept hacking through all the Free Dwarfs that came at him. Even taking down Freddy the Weakling, the Blacksoul will be rewarded greatly after the campaign earning himself a place among the Fire Guard Zharr'kus thought.

Being more of a competent leader than a fighter Zharr'kus got badly wounded by Palinor and in the chaos that endured our forces were unsure of his fate. His proud hat were nowhere to be seen...
The last Slave Orc proved loyal enough to avenge his master and ran his spear through the mount of Palinor and wounding Palinor himself in the fall as well.

Seeing the Dwarf leader taken down yet a again was enough for the last Free Dwarfs to turn and run for the mountains yet again. Another glorious victory for our forces could be reported, the rune filled stones will be examined by our sorcerers and destroyed if necessary.

After the battle Zharr'kus were nowhere to be found, only his hat and whip lay at the center stone where he was last seen fighting Palinor. Having the will of black iron and fire we are sure to see him again. Scouts were sent out in the area to search for him while Ber'zhuk the Ironcaster prepare our forces to make the final push against the last remaning leaders of Free Dwarfs.

Thanks alot! Been fun so far, and the plan is to try out some different concept which would be good as a unit/set as well.

We also just finished our initial little KoW: Vanguard campaign as well. I really recommend both system and the world!
Quote
For our forth game in our campaign we played "Kill the Commander" with 200gc forces chosen from our campaign forces.

Our Hobgoblin scouts reported that the had located the leadership och the last remaning Free Dwarfs. They had fled into a small village deep within the mountain forest...
Despite Zharr'kus the Flayer were nowhere to be found our forces waisted no time and prepared a dusk raid. This time Ruzh'ark the Immortal took charge,  what Ruzh'ark lacked in command capabilities he surely made up for with pure skill and ferocity in combat!

Ruzh'ark the Immortals attackers

Palinors defenders

The village was located in a small clearing in the deep forest. The Free Dwarfs had a few guards set up, but Palinor himself were nowhere to be seen yet. Though our Hobgoblin scouts reported he had been seen in one of the houses.
Our forces quickly surrounded the village to make sure all possible roads of retreat were blocked.

Our initial attack were swift, as swift as a dwarf with an even bigger hat can be. And more or less caught the Free Dwarf defenders by surprise. Of course our greenskinslaves lead the charge...

A few of the Free Dwarfs counter charges while other scrambled for cover and took up defensive positions. With a mighty ROAARRR! the huge stone elemental charged towards our lines.

In a heroic scene that stunned everyone involved our Blacksoul Warrior Kh'arr parried all of the blows from the Elemental with his hammer. And in return landed several blows to its head, sending sparks or raw earth magic into the air before it tumbled to the ground before his feet.
Though it still moved it was clearly damaged and in bad shape...

Our attack pressed in on all sides while the Free Dwarfs met with feeble resistance and one by one the Free Dwarfs fell to our axes. But still no sight of Palinor...

Our greenskin slaves which were well fed and eager for battle, didnt wast any time and charged the Free Dwarf characters to tie them up. And to keep Freddy the Weakling from healing the Stone creature with his spells.

In the meantime Ruzh'ark had chopped his way through the Free Dwarf defenders at the gate, which didn't stand much of a chance against his skill and ferocity...

...and he soon joined Kh'arr to finish of the Stone Elemental.

A sudden BOOOM! filled the air with thick smoke from the Decimator which had taken up position behind the hedge. And filled the remaining Free Dwarfs with lead and shrapnel.

As things started to look really bleak for the Free Dwarfs the doors from the house in the center suddenly slammed open, and our came Palinor!

In his drunken rage he was quickly surrounded by our forces, and Ruzh'ark took his time with the Free Dwarf Commander. Enjoying every moment of the combat, until he decapitated the foe.

A calm once more came over the village as the yard was filled with dead or dying dwarfs. Pride and triumph filled  Ruzh'arks chest. This would surly put him in command, and craved the respect he deserves from the High Council and even Overking Zerkziz himself! The title "Eviscerator of the Halpi Mountains" would be fitting he thought...

..."Ah, well done SERVANTS!" Somehow Zharr'kus the Flayer had made it back to camp during the night. And hurried after his troops to lead the attack on the last of the Free Dwarfs.
Zharr'kus eyes were filled with fire and hate, not even Ruzh'ark dared to meet his glare more than a few seconds before looking away. Now was not the time Ruzh'ark thought. But it would come, soon...

So, this was our last skirmish in our first little campaign for Vanguard. Really enjoyed the system so far, and will surely follow it up with more stories. And as fate would have it, our skirmishes in the Halpi Mountains fits right into the overall narrative of KoW. 3rd Edition has moved the timeline along 10 years form Edge of the Abyss-campaign which saw most of the action between the Free Dwards and Abyssal Dwarfs. The peninsula is now under firm Abyssal Dwarf control and the Abyss is once more on the offensive...

Next up will be an adaptation of the "Ice & Iron Campaign" which just released for Vanguard. We will probably start it with new, smaller war bands of 200gc since with 400gc we were able to leave any wounded characters in camp and more or less always have a fresh and full war band. We also plan to make use of random skill trees for our characters since some felt better than others once we had a few games.

Always hated a boss that swooped in and took the credit.

Great report! I thought that stone creature would have a bit more impact on the field.

Oh, it should! Its a beast, though bad rolling combined with exploding D8 gave an epic moment.  :o

It is always satisfying to see the big-baddie felled in a moment of superb dice rolling. It gives you one of those Indiana Jones shooting the swordsman moments:

Haha, indeed. That was pretty much the exact scene!  lol

Got a bunch of disregarded resin masters, perfect as a sneak peak and for our Vanguard skirmishes. Black Hammer bazooka and smoke/shadow demons, to be used as a Mobile Katsuchan and Gargoyles...

Thanks, haven't seen lost... But had the smoke demon from Game of Thrones in mind. :)

Gave the Skeletons/berzerkers an updated paint job.

I'm not very aware of the Game of Thrones stuff. I know it exists, and then all of my knowledge is pretty well spent. lol

New paint? I can't see a picture if you posted one.

Ah, pretty much the same. A bit more features in GoT I guess, but same concept. Jupp, there's a photo of the repainted Berzerkers as well. :)

They are just for "private fun". Honestly they are really easy to make and would be really hard to mould I imagine, as well as being expensive to cast.

Here is the first of the Golems painted up. It will be used for Vanguard, hence the smaller base.  :)

Tjubgobs with Boomsticks - Increasingly, Tjubling overlords have found it worthwhile to equip their Tjubling underlings with strong but primitive blackpowder weapons. The arquebuses are known as Boomsticks among the superstitious steppe tribes, and they convey great prestige on the handgunner. For they hold part of the power of the Storm God in their hands!

Tjubgob Storm Guard - To be a leader of Tjubgobs is to live in constant fear. Power instinct (called paranoia by foreigners) makes Tjubgob leaders watch their every step, and makes them trust no one. Some of the tribe’s best warriors - and especially poor Tjubgobs who theoretically be very grateful for such a promotion - will often be chosen to join the prestigious Storm Guard, armed with glaives and tasked with defending their leader’s life with their own interposed. Costly generosity usually keep the Storm Guard reasonably loyal, yet all too often one Warchief is succeeded by his ambitious Storm Guard captain, thanks to poison, a knife in the back or more ingenious methods of treachery.

I use them for warhammer and SoBH. Though your games with KoW and the respective skirmish system made me want to try these two, too. I sadly don’t have a shop nearby and currently am not very mobile (with my little chaos dwarf princess approaching her first birthday, this may change, however, soon).

My best tip would be to get a friend or two interested and start playing with them. Or build two armies and invite friends to play... That the best part of 15mm, its easy to both store and buy. :P

I totally agree, but it doesn’t solve the time problem (and the problem of finding people willing to play at baby-friendly hours)...but this will change.

Since Kings of War 3ed dropped Ive been really eager to get my Abyssal Dwarfs up to a decent army size. Managed to field a 2000pts army, but aim to knock out a few of the bigger/easier pieces before painting Infantry and sculpting more Tjublings. (Which will come soon anyway...) But here's my conversion of the Abyssal Dwarf Supreme Ironcaster on a Great Winged Half breed. A Tjubling version would Ideally be more in line of a "classic" Lamassu, but I think this conversion fits the frame atleast as a big mutated winged monster with magical abilities. :)
