Title: ACP164: The Albedo Miniatures Game
Post by: Chris Abbey on October 15, 2018, 02:08:22 PM

Albedo Miniatures Game ACP164
ACP164 is a 28mm miniatures game based on the ‘Albedo Anthropomorphics’ comic written by Steve Gallacci. The product line includes a campaign sourcebook, rules system, a miniatures range, vehicles, buildings and terrain items.

Timings & Approach
The Albedo Miniatures Game is live on Kickstarter today (15th October and runs until 19th November). We have many pledges available including early bird discounts for combinations of rules, miniatures and terrain.

We are, however adopting a slightly different approach in that the miniatures we have already developed are available for purchase from Sally 4th (https://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Albedo-Patrol) , so gamers can begin exploring the Albedo Universe immediately as well as being able to participate in the play test of the rules.

Background
The series is sophisticated and thoughtful, blending hard science and practical military weaponry with cute furry creatures. There are no blasters or zap guns, no clone armies or death stars, just critters trying to make sense of their existence amid a starry backdrop. The opposing factions in their universe are the Independent Lapine Republic (ILR), who are engaged in a war of expansion against everyone else, which has forced the creation of the ConFed, or Confederation of Planets. The ConFed is represented by two different forces, the Home Guard, who maintain security on individual planets, and the Extra Planetary Defence Force, an elite force dedicated to defending systems and recapturing systems taken by the ILR.

Rules System
The Albedo Combat Patrol rules have been written by John 'Buck' Surdu. They feature innovative, fast play, card-based combat mechanisms that bring out the detail of tactical ground based combat operations.

Miniatures Range
These have been digitally sculpted and the figures are supplied as multi-piece metal castings to allow a wide variety of troop types to be depicted.

Terrain Range
Albedo is based on a rich comic book heritage which has a very different look and feel to it than many of the dark, gothic brands of sci-fi miniature gaming that many of us are used to, so we wanted to create a complete gaming environment that captures this. We have designed and developed a complete range of detailed sleek, modern, plexi-glass and steel urban buildings with solar panels and air filtration units. The range includes a Hab Block (apartments), a Biz Block (shops and offices) and a Fab Block (factory / workshop, where things get fabricated).

Thanks for your kind wishes.

What a crazy 24 hours at has been! Kickstarter launched, funded in first 13 hours, first stretch goal smashed, Albedo Miniatures pre-orders arrived, packed and dispatched.

So... Here's a look at the worlds favorite EDF officer, Erma Felna, caught here off duty and relaxing in something casual. These images give an indication of what a great job our sculptor has done in capturing the spirit of the original cartoon images. During the Kick starter campaign we are expecting to introduce alternative Erma sculpts, but this one is the Ltd edition sculpt. She is FREE for the first 500 backers pledging £50 or more and she will be accompanied by a numbered Ltd edition certificate making her even more desirable!

So who are the ILR? You might be preparing to fight with them, or you might be preparing to fight against them, either way it's best to know a bit about them.

If you are not in the know, the ILR or Independent Lapine Republic are not a bunch of cute bunnies with big guns but one of the main factions in Albedo Combat Patrol, The Albedo Miniatures Game. This is a sci-fi skirmish game, with its own range of miniatures, buildings and publications based on the rich and detailed background from Steve Gallacci's Albedo Anthropomorphic comic series that ran for over 22 years!

The EDF Officer is the latest miniature to head off for sculpting.

Great to hear that backers are enjoying the game already. Just read this update over on TMP from David Burden.

"I've been a lifelong fan of Albedo so great to see this project happening. In the middle of a first play of the rules and the card-based mechanic is working really well – makes for a very quick game and minimal looking up of charts (really just the weapon spec's and they soon get fixed in the mind). My pre-order figures have also just arrived and look really nice, very clean, and can't wait to get the MDF scenery unpacked over the weekend. I could certainly see myself also using the rules and terrain for more human based SF (any chance of a human head set?), and even for modern, post-1950s skirmish (not surprising given the rules heritage!). Will write an AAR up on my blog once the first game is finished."

The early bird pledges have been very, very popular and now there are only 6 fire team commander and one platoon commander deal left.

All I can say is that we have a designer who is very keen to design one, it all depends on the amount of support for the game and it's kick starter over the next couple of weeks.

Personally I would love to be able to field the EDF as either a mechanized platoon or an air-mobile platoon with all the associated vehicles & flyers!

If casualty figs are on the maybe list, maybe include a "medic at work" sculpt as well?  Having both in a range makes for some neat diorama possibilities.

Buck Surdu, Albedo Combat Patrol rules author has written up a great game that he played last weekend.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/44698662_345117662728511_4243326550558113792_o.jpg?_nc_cat=101&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=46cc8b04138f81a638f9c4e32116e02e&oe=5C55CB39)

The game was a typical introductory skirmish scenario, with a couple of units per side.

Yeah, but those other animals are wearing fur.  You know how PETA gets about that subject.  We'll wind up having to paint all our models with random blotches of red from the paint balloon attacks.  This project is doomed, I tell you.  :)

I like the basic figures and I may get some to put on human Sci-Fi heads or some alien heads. Can't get excited about bunny rabbits and dogs though. Will be interested to see the vehicles.

Funny that you should mention the conversion potential of putting human or alien heads of the Albedo Miniatures. We have been very focused on looking at conversion potential of adding our heads to other miniatures to make them anthropomorphic, and missed seeing the potential of people using our miniatures as general 'hard' sci-fi miniatures. We will be looking at bringing some human and alien head packs out ourselves to go with the range, so interested to hear any requests for styles and alien races.

Re: Peta. They don't have any objection about depiction of critters that are wearing there own fur. It's when someone kills an animal to wear it's fur that they object! Can't see an Albedo character ever doing that.

That would be a great starting point for human sci-fi troops, as everyone looks very similar in a respirator. If they are popular we can then add a range of unmasked miniatures with different faces.

On another note...

Here's the very first images of the new EDF Officer sculpt. As with all the all the miniatures in the Albedo Range it is multipart so you will be able to use any head style (Combat Helmet / Beret / Bare Head) or species (Cat / Dog / Fox / Rabbit / Otter) and a range of weapon arms.

Any chance of getting some variety in the dog heads; only basset hounds that I can see so far. Kinda bleh about hounds. Something with a pointier snout e.g. Retriever, German Shepard, collie would be nice and appreciated.

Yay for the otter heads!

We are committed to supporting Albedo with monthly new releases, which start this month. We'd like to get all our fans involved in the development of the range, so last month we asked everyone what they would like to suggest for the next head type. We collected the responses and held an online Poll and the otter head came out as the clear favorite. We also added a conical helm for fantasy miniature converters. These heads have gone off for mold making and will be shipping out very soon. We are planning to do the same thing for Decembers new releases, so please add some comments with the next species or breed you would like us to feature, i.e Badger, Border Collie etc. and the next type of headgear you would like us to feature, i.e. Kepi, Samurai Helmet, Knights Helmet etc.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/45442043_351233565450254_7696185681915150336_n.jpg?_nc_cat=106&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=08cfd6e654b79d9fa830784702dc86dd&oe=5C7086C9)

Tomorrow lunchtime, I'll collect the responses and put an online poll together and start the process for the December new release.

My head-vote would be on rough collie or saluki, but if what we saw last time holds true, badgers it is.  ;)
As for helmets, my vote's still on sallet although I've already been greenstuffing some of my own together.

We have collected together your requests for new breeds and species to add to our 'Critter Conversion Kits' (head and tail sets for converting miniatures to anthropomorphic figures).

Quick update - Dachshund is in the lead at the moment in the voting. Still 3 hours to go, so if you're keen for a particular model and haven't voted there is still time, or share around with your mates and get them to vote as well! Sausage dog? Really? Badgers, and shepherd dogs are cooler. But if that's the result, it's ok.

My thoughts as well, still some time for other people to vote, but as a matter of integrity we have to go with what the majority have voted for.

"The figures and game concept have that uniqueness, something ‘different’, and that stands out in a market that is pretty much saturated. Overall, this is a welcome option for sci - fi gamers, backed up by a proven game system that covers a host of genres."

Those look good. The one on the right (a light tank or IFV?), the turret looks a bit small for the gun, but I can see them being of use elsewhere.

It's not the size, it's how you use it.  :D

But yes, very nice to see these.

This is the source image for the light tank version, from the comic. I'm pretty sure by the time we have added the track guards etc. it will be a 95% match. Remember this is sci-fi, it's a one critter turret with auto loader and caseless ammo.

I was not commenting on how it matches the the source material, I was more thinking of its uses outside of the game.

Good point, I wonder how it compares to the unergonomic BMP/BMD 2  turret ^__^.

Glad you like the vehicles. We're also very keen to do the ILR vehicles. They are the £15K stretch goal on Kickstarter, we are at £13.4k at the moment and campaign closes on Saturday 17th, so if we get a few more backers for what we have done so far, including the EDF vehicles, we are in with a chance.

Hi Munindk,
Sorry about postage, we just charge what the post office charge to deliver an item.
The book weighs 550g which puts it into the 1000g category which is £12.55 (Royal Mail Tracked and Signed to Europe) plus £1 for packaging materials.

You can however get another 450g or products delivered for the same cost.

Not quiet Albedo, but a little bit of fun to show of the versatility of the Albedo Miniatures range as hard sci-fi miniatures whether you like Anthropomorphic or not.

(https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/47581040_367996813773929_246295698453037056_n.jpg?_nc_cat=101&_nc_ht=scontent-lht6-1.xx&oh=8217e20540d3c29580a5fa0ca6e29176&oe=5C64DA1D)

These miniatures are ILR Skirmish Infantry with EDF weapon arms and heads from my bits box. I'm planning to convert enough miniatures to play through the introductory scenario.

The Albedo Skirmish Starter set contains 11 miniatures with 5 different weapon types plus a voucher to download the PDF version of the rules, cards, scenario and other player aids, so is a good point to try out the game (with or without converted miniatures). It has been a busy month for the Albedo team since the kick starter completed. We have had a lot of posts showing progress on sculpting and test casting of new Albedo Miniatures, but of course there is a lot more than that going on. Mike & Buck have been busy putting the finishing touches on the Albedo sourcebook and rulebook. The draft, full rulebook will be going out to backers in PDF format in the next few days for play testing. Steve Gallacci has been busy with new artwork and our card artists has designed the format for the Albedo Action Decks.

Today we can take a look at the format for the EDF and ILR card decks and the card back artwork for the main EDF pack.

We are taking late pledges via Backerkit, and we have some exciting stretch goals that are half funded, which include the iconic aerodyne, a civilian / protestor / police box set, a Toki character sculpt and a 6 wheeled ILR vehicle. Albedo Female Civilian.
Here's a first look at our first civilian sculpt for Albedo.
The sculpt is designed to accept any of the Albedo head range so this can be used to make a civilian cat, rabbit, dog, fox, otter (and of course many more species are coming soon). The arms are separate castings, so can be posed for variety or could be swapped with a pistol or datapad arm for example.
We are hoping for a February release.

Obvious utility as plain old human with suitable head is obvious.  Not a ton of scifi civilian sculpts of any species on the market, so the added versatility is appreciated.

Get your troops into action, in tip-top condition with the AV8 series Armored Fighting Vehicles.

The AV8 series APC The standard EDF AV8 APC is a tracked, low profile vehicle, capable of carrying eight fully equipped infantry and a driver. Powered by a small fusion plant, the vehicle provides protection against small arms, as well as limited protection against missiles and large-calibre weapons. The AV8 has firing ports to allow the passengers to use their sidearm if required, as well as a post mounted 10mm M2-50 HMG.

The other new Albedo release for January is the Homeguard (Otter) reinforcement pack.

Pack contains 3 x EDF Light Infantry armed with LAKW 1-56 Assault Rifles and mix of Otter heads (beret / bare headed)

In Albedo the Home Guard covers a wide range of troop types from untried militia through to elite special forces units. The term Home Guard signifies that the unit is part of the defense forces of the particular planet rather than part of the Extra Planetary Defense Force (EDF) who are off world reinforcements / advisors. Both male and female critters can be found serving within a planet's Home Guard. Home-guard troops are less well armored than EDF forces. The figures in our Home-guard packs contain a random assortment of male and female poses wearing light armor and home-guard berets.

This week Doug and I have started sorting out our participation game for this years Hammerhead show at Newark Showground on 2nd March, which is played using Albedo Combat Patrol

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/51033646_392477084659235_4188062016654540800_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=beb5fe05ede1e3982f25afc8257b2379&oe=5CFB60F7)

The situation on the ground is that ILR Planetary Invasion forces have landed on and around major population centers on Coralaus Prime. ConFed Coralaus Homeguard forces were pushed back after intense firefights.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/51109546_392477161325894_3380465657991659520_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=2bd77f37b691edd8998d581c4a548391&oe=5CFBC28F)

Over subsequent weeks the ILR consolidated there positions, digging in (bunnies are good at that), around strategic sites, such as the Government buildings and media hub featured in our counterattack game, which sees elements of an Extra Planetary Defense Force (EDF) Mech Company, landed outside engagement range via Aerodynes moving forward in a deliberate assault to recapture these strategic sites.

The first new releases for February are two reinforcement packs for the ILR.
Each pack contains three miniatures with an assortment of body and head types to give you greater flexibility when forming headquarters and deciding on squad size.

We have sculptors working on badgers at the moment.
Badgers heads will be available bare headed, in EDF Combat Helmets and with cloak hoods and conical helms for converting figures for Redwall Abbey, Burrows & Badgers, Frostgrave etc.

The ACP164 Participation game at Hammerhead last weekend.

The scenario saw the ILR troops (Independent Lapine Republic) who had landed and taken control of government buildings, digging in along the edge of some parkland that surrounded the main broadcasting station.

This is the EDF Automatic Grenade Launcher kit, I've assembled it with the new Dachshund head and tail. This model is part of the Kick Starter so will not be available to buy until we have shipped all our Kick Starter pledges out in June, however we are still taking late pledges via Backerkit

Here is our first Salute 2019 new release, the ILR Blue Wind Special Purpose Forces Team.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/55618251_2378593475519197_3040050243782574080_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=72303028cbdf47c2516ceec5d7d814d7&oe=5D506E71)

Operation BLUE WIND was a long running reconnaissance operation, based deep in ConFed territory. The troopers selected for this mission became a special breed, known for their resilience, ruthlessness and independent thought. Because they specialised in raiding and short-term missions, these squads were typically heavily armed and well led.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/55481525_2378593985519146_2740514671894200320_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=ad3187ad87dc8ad278acfe8634bc8399&oe=5D0D8765)

A BLUE WIND team consists of 12 critters, formed as an infantry squad, and always commanded by an officer, and often broken down into two fire teams. The second team is led by a sergeant, and often operates independently. Both teams have a two critter LMG crew, and the remaining three members of the squad are armed with a sniper rifle, rifle/grenade launcher combination, and normal rifle - this trooper is usually a medic in the second team and a communications specialist in the first team.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/56402117_2378594042185807_5790039295704170496_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=d5f83174d99f0ff29a9cfdb65859ef7c&oe=5D13DF93)

Unusually for the Republicans, these teams often wear camouflaged clothing appropriate to the area that they are operating in as they attempt to blend in with their surroundings during long reconnaissance patrols or sneak attacks.

The miniature range has been digitally sculpted and the figures are supplied as multi-piece metal castings to allow a wide variety of troop type to be depicted. The miniatures have been designed to overcome many of the problems associated with multi-piece metal castings. Heads are cast with a neck that finishes in a pin that locates in a hole in the body; where possible pairs of arms are cast as a pair holding a weapon with pins at tops of arms that locate in to holes in shoulders. This ensures that components align perfectly and are easy to glue together. Figures supplied with 25mm plastic slotta-base.

Many atrocities were carried out by the ILR during the 1st Lapine War. The worst examples involved an ILR Major called Amenenha – known as “The Butcher of Baka”. His preferred method of execution was to lock critters in a building which was then burned down – as this saved ammunition. Like many senior ILR critters, Amenenha escaped Baka before the end of the war. His whereabouts are unknown to this day, and he is high on the ConFed’s “Most wanted” list for war crimes.

This is a test cast of Amenenha that I painted up at the weekend.

On my workbench - 3rd April
Scale comparison - small frame critters. I've just painted up a test cast for a Mouse trooper. This is the first test cast of small frame critters, note he is carrying the same sized carbine as everyone else. Mice variants are due for release latter in April with Rats to follow in May.

Albedo Combat Patrol:ACP164.
The Defence of Science Station Z1430.

A couple of weeks ago, my good friend Patrick had an unexpected free afternoon so we decided to have a go at the introductory ACP164 scenario - Defence of the Science Station.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/56749297_424215111485432_3143470539419418624_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=e3c512d1efa74083695c8d2faf8d9a39&oe=5D319070)

Set on a planet, many light years away from Arras Chankra an ILR Planetary Invasion Fleet has recently landed and plan to annex Ralon186 to the Republic,

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/56749094_424215234818753_2213826422978379776_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=f526c6a616d301f3491622aac169c865&oe=5D2F54FF)

Taken by surprise, the planetary HomeGuard were quickly overthrown at the starport and main population centres, however there are many pockets of resistance that need to be cleared before the ILR can claim a complete victory.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/56718538_424215244818752_1529464006161465344_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=5f66d1d58544e7c6d528b989f64bc7fd&oe=5D03B527)

Science Station Z1430 was a biological research station, engaged in valuable research to determine if cultivated plants could be used to supplement the critters mainly synthesized diet. A single section of 8 HomeGuard had been tasked with its defense, however the platoon HQ was also located in the building and an additional section were close enough to support if reinforcement was necessary.

All was set for an exciting afternoons gaming. Loads more photos and battle report on my hobby blog @

On my workbench 29th April 2019

Over the weekend I have been assembling some Police / Internal Security troops armed with riot shields and batons and a shotgun

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/58462356_432529680653975_7637535017270247424_n.jpg?_nc_cat=100&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=d5698cd7ece385704aedc5d2ba7e5ca7&oe=5D32332F)

The megaphone is an arm swap with a protestor. I know that I should not really say this about our own figures, but they do make me smile every time I sit down to assemble a batch as there is so much versatility with the separate arms, heads & tails.

(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/58729703_432529737320636_7246065520087138304_n.jpg?_nc_cat=101&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr3-1.xx&oh=80a8445289bd1caf8766c24f5910ecdd&oe=5D33EFAB)

These are scheduled as a May release, we've not got production casts through yet, these are pre-production proofs.

The question is what color to paint police uniforms in Albedo? The same colors as the military? Blue? Black? Grey? Let me know what you think. as I want to get a squad painted up to photograph to go in the books.

I always think dark blue for police uniforms, but that's just me.  Realistically it's a tossup between how easy you want your riot police to be seen.  Bright colors (hunter orange, say) will make you easy to see and maybe be intimidating to an angry mob.  Urban came will make you much harder to shoot at, but you'll wind up blending into the background when you're trying to get peoples' attention.  Black is just sinister.  All of them ought to have some identifier on the back like FBI, SWAT, etc.

Perhaps dark or urban camo uniforms but have the riot shields and maybe helmets bright orange or yellow or something?

The first two packs of May new releases for ACP 164 are Male & Female Protestors. Each pack contains 3 bodies and 3 randomly selected bareheads from range. The Male protestors pack contains placard / megaphone arms, clenched fist arms and stone throwing arms. The female protestors pack contains 3 sets of arms out of (placard, throwing bottle, clenched fist or throwing stones). Some of the miniatures in the painted shot have had there arms swapped with other miniatures holding firearms to show versatility of this pack.

Last week we released two picks of protestors. These are now joined by Police units in riot gear to 'look after them'.
Each pack contains 3 miniatures with random selection of bodies from 8 light infantry poses, 3 helmeted heads 2 x riot shield and truncheon arms and 1 x shotgun. (The figure with a megaphone is an arm swap conversion with a figure from the male protestor pack).

A red letter day for Albedo Miniatures Game!

I can report that today we received the spins from the last production moulds needed for this Kickstarter, so we have every miniature to go into pledges sculpted, moulds made, lead spun, miniatures picked and packed.
We still have books, player aids, terrain & LARCS being worked on, but the miniatures & cards are all done.

Overall, we are still on track for July shipping, so...
Next week (7th June) we will be freezing shipping addresses on Backerkit, so if you will have moved house in July from when you pledged, please pop over to Backerkit and get address updated before we freeze them and start printing address labels. If something comes up at the last minute you can email us.
All of the products funded through the Kickstarter will be available eventually through retail. Once we have dispatched the last backer pledge we will start adding them to the Albedo Miniatures Webstore (www.acp164.com (http://www.acp164.com)) , however there is a lot of stuff to release, so the releases will be spread over 6 months. This is the Albedo Miniatures releases schedule for the second half of 2019, so if you want any extra stuff in July rather than waiting for it's release date, you have until 7th June to order via Backerkit. ( https://acp164.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders (https://acp164.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders) ).

We sneaked a couple of extra packs in this month that were not on the release schedule!
I was playing around with components at the weekend to put some figures together for a photo-shoot (we have over 120 components now!). These seemed like some useful packs. The kneeling crew can be used as extra crew critters for LMG, Portable Missile Launcher & Automatic Grenade Launcher or as commanders.

In Wave 2 'Boarding Action', we will be making helmeted heads for Erma & Toki, but for now this pack is an option for anyone that wants to model the pair in combat gear.

Apologies, we have been a little quiet over the last few weeks. We are all working long hours in the background, editing, proof read and finishing off the layout of the three Albedo books which complete the development effort for first kick starter. We are still on schedule to ship in July. This means that we are a little behind on day to day Albedo work, like new releases. The last new releases for June are EDF Heavy Infantry (Badgers), Grenadiers with A30 Underslung Grenade Launchers and ILR Skirmish Infantry armed with Machine Pistols. We have a good stock off all these packs but have not had a chance to paint and photograph the last two packs, so we have released them without a photo and will hopefully get around to painting them next week!

We had a quick photo shoot this morning for a few extra shots for the ACP164 Almata Campaign book which is in it's final stages of layout and will be at the printers by lunchtime (today!!!).
The scene is set for an EDF Mech Infantry Platoon settling down to nighttime routines in a rear area to have a rude awakening.

Today is a bit of a milestone day in the development of ACP164: The Albedo Miniatures Game. We now have in our hands the first glossy, full color printed versions of the ACP164 rulebook and sourcebook. It's been a huge undertaking spanning three continents to get from the initial conception to the printed product involving a great time of writers, illustrators, painters, graphic design and layout, proof reading, editing and finally printing.
The good news is that we are still on track to hit our original target of Kickstarter fulfillment by end of July followed by full retail release!

Today we have added a painting and modelling section to the acp164.com website. From here you will be able to download the painting guide that appears in the hardback Albedo compendium. We have also put some handy paint sets together based on the Army Painter range with handy colors for painting EDF & ILR troops together with all of the other basing materials, tools and brushes from the Army Painter range.

Our sculptor, Maria has just posted an interesting and informative blog about how she went about creating our range of Albedo Miniatures. I was staggered to see that there are 300,000 variations of miniatures possible due to the way that the body poses, heads, tails and arms have been sculpted. I wonder who will be first to assemble them all?

I should point out that other people have minis, and are preparing to play the game.

Reaction so far has been overwhelmingly positive, which is gratifying,  because I wrote two of the books...

I'm new to this forum,  and can already see lots of neat stuff to explore!

This weeks new releases are the EW LARCs.

The Enchawah Corporation created a range of standard rotorcraft that are used by many militaries, including the ILR, who used them in light transport, assault and gunship configurations. These had the advantage of being cheap and easily replaceable, which was handy because the loss of the rotor on one side invariably led to the loss of the whole vehicle and usually the occupants as well.

Operationally, this vulnerability kept them to low altitudes, where the rotor shrouding acted to quieten the noise of the blades and reduce potential damage from foreign objects (and tree branches) as well as minimising exposure to ground fire.

By the end of the war, advances in missile technology were beginning to supplant gunships in the air support role, and the value of traditional rotorcraft for transport was becoming more obvious in terms of survivability.

Nevertheless, the Enchawah LARC series saw a lot of use in ILR, HomeGuard and civilian service and can still be seen in second or third line roles, or on backwater planets.

The first model introduced was the LARC A.  The utility of this resulted in larger, more powerful variants, the B, C & N models of which proved successful and are still in common military use.  A models are still seen in civil, training and VIP transport roles.

Will likely start converting some officers to give the conflict that personal touch, followed by the ILR vehicles to put both forces on a roughly equal footing and then the missile launcher
troopers to give the vehicles something to watch out for. After that it'll likely be "whatever I happen to fancy".  :D

Progress won't probably be pretty quick though, my studies resumed earlier this month.

We were so busy last month that we never got around to photographing the December New Releases and posting images.
Yesterday, I got my camera out and photographed the ILR Special Assault Troops. These are the ILR's elite troopers, first in, last out, given all the tough assignments. Only the most intelligent and best motivated (or indoctrinated) Lapines get to serve as SA Troopers. They are kitted out with helmets and body armor plus the advanced 'Bullpup' weaponry.

These models were painted by Jon Atter, who has done a great job of capturing their experimental camouflage jackets.

Special Assault Troops are available as a unit box set which includes a unit reference card and as 3 figure reinforcement packs.

Yes, the World of Albedo is new to warfare so camouflage is an emerging concept.
This pattern is developed by the Independent Lapine Republic and is officially called Optical Displacement Pattern 001b, but all the troopers call it 'Carrot Patch Cam'!

We are beginning to get excited about Albedo Wave 2 Campaign:Boarding Action. Mike has been busy for many months with a new campaign book which is based on actions in space in space stations and space ships. There will of course be a stack of new miniatures to support the supplement, so Maria has also been busy sculpting the initial Kickstarter miniatures. Over the next few weeks, we'll share some of these with you. This is a rabbit head in a spacesuit liner complete with personal comms gear. This will go with both the Spacesuit and the Shipsuit.

At the weekend I found a couple of hours to paint up half a dozen new models for ACP164:The Albedo Miniatures Game.

The four armed civilians are for Kazo's Gang, ILR stooges in the opening stages of the Almata Campaign in which a proxy war is carried out by armed insurgents, agents and special forces teams

The male horse is our very first test cast of a large frame critter. This will be used in Wave 2 for Bears, Horses, Lions, Tigers etc.

Nice.

I wondered whether the Horses would use the standard body size.

The horse guy reminds me of BoJack Horsemen.

We have a small horse / pony that uses standard size body and in Wave 2 will have a large frame horse as well. These first minis have been built with hooves, but they will also take all of the standard arms as well.
