I want to host a big game in two weeks...set in the RCW.
6 Players on a decent table....:)
So far I have enough minis for a white russians party and a friend has more then enough for two bolshies.
So I have to build 3 more parties.
Each party will consitst of 1 leader, three 8-9 men troops (variing quality), a heavy gun (HMG or artillery), a transport and a little pulp troop (like Dr. Shivago and his nurse).
My collection is so far more orientated around the Back of Beyond. Mainly infantry orientated with lots of pulpy stuff....:)
I started today with a scracht build tachanka.
Just got me the wheels from a sprue of ACW artillery from the Perrys and glued some plastic card.
(http://i.imgur.com/fktlNFbl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/fktlNFb)
Took me just 2 1/2 hours...:)
Added two horses of Perry heavy napo cav and two WW2 russian infantry from Warlord.

(http://i.imgur.com/jhVrVXcl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/jhVrVXc)
Still a lot of work...espascially on the horses.
In the time the glue was drying I took a box of mongol cav out of the plastic pile.
And converted a few cossacks. Inspired by father primus....;)

And Added lots of equipment.

Stay tuned and Cheers,
Don....;)
-
Excellent WIP - very inspirational! Seeing the tschanka has made me realise I can convert on from an Old West buggy.
-
Another great Don thread to follow 8)
-
And here I thought it'd be a simple gallery of painted figures.
You are very talented! Great job!
-
Wow, that tchanka is exceptional! :o
-
Very interesting. :)
-
Love all the scratchbuilds!!! :-* :-*
-
Pretty cool stuff, Don.
Not only the tchanka build is excellent, but also the driver gives a nice touch to it :-*
-
Wow! Very nice! Drunken driver deserves a special respect! :-*
Also glad to see, that my kitbashing/greenstuff exercises inspire people)))
-
Another great Don thread to follow 8)
Yep :)
Bring it on, Don, you scratchbuilding, kitbashing, speed painting genius! 8)
-
Thank you very much gentlemen....;)
Here is the first batch of painted minis.
One of the fractions will be a pro zarist company in worn out WWI uniforms.
Perhaps a little of the track, but I wanted to haul this project only with stuff from the Lead Mountain....:)
I bought the miniatures from Mad Doc Morris a few years back. They were already based mainly on coins...
I will keep them that way although my other minis are based on 25mm bases.
(http://i.imgur.com/BV89W5ll.jpg) (https://imgur.com/BV89W5l)
They are a bit small compared to the chunky Copplestone beauties, but full of detail and character. Like them...:)
Also glad to see, that my kitbashing/greenstuff exercises inspire people...
I absolutely did...scrolled throu all your postings....great stuff... :) :o 8)
Cheers,
Don
-
Okay, here is the next load of minis. This time copplestone bolshies...:)
Need a little bit more stuff and the red side is ready to take on the field.
(http://i.imgur.com/DYnFGiul.jpg) (https://imgur.com/DYnFGiu)
...and I need more standard bearers....:D
Cheers,
Don
-
Great job Don. How did you made the peacked capīs from the zarist company ?
-
Stop being so bloody quick lol
-
Stop being so bloody quick
Okay...this time only 9 minis....;)
But being a little handicaped by toothache I couldn`t find much sleep last night....so I started a new squad.
This time some turn coats and a bolshevik HMG.
I really like the Osprey books on the RCW. Very informative....and there I found this little gem of whole units switiching sides. Some multiple times. Ideal for one of my multiplayers...:)
So I ll use them for what ever side needs some reenforcements in my games... o_o lol
(http://i.imgur.com/Q3BMUejl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/Q3BMUej)
How did you made the peacked capīs from the zarist company ?
Sorry, dont get your point. They are modelled on the minis. These are regular WW1 minis....erm with caps.....;)
Cheers,
Don
-
Sorry, but i only know these miniatures from empress as russian infantry for russo-japanese war,
http://www.empressminiatures.com/userimages/procart51.htm.
Paul Hicks designed the figures with peackless caps. Therefore my question ;).
By the way, realy good paintwork.
-
Lovely stuff - great scratch building.
-
@waterproof
I just bought the minis...don't know where they come from....:D
...sorry.
Okay. I am still a little handycaped by my toothache...so there was not much painting yesterday.
But... I got me a plane...;)
Just managed to get it together and build a little flight stand.

Cheers,
Don

Here is the next batch of minis.
Turn coats again and some Bolshies....with the cool Trotzki miniature....:)
Started them last week and almost finished them today. So a little WIP again....;)

Lovely! Who does the mounted Cossacks???
-
The link below holds the information as laid out by Father Primus. It is fairly vague.
"Let's take some mongols/napoleonic french and turn 'em into any comissar's living nightmare - mounted cossacks!"
https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=92695.msg1223907#msg1223907 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=92695.msg1223907#msg1223907)
Mounted plastic Mongols are done by Fireforge Games.
-
Excellent work Don, although I don't know what is more impressive, the quality of the brushwork or the rate at which you are churning units out :o
-
That tchanka is gorgeous. I am planning one also, but I think I'll make mine out of sheet brass.
-
Lovely! Who does the mounted Cossacks???
I think Don wrote plastic mongols, I suppose that means conversions from the Fireforge sprue. I would be very interested to read a step by step of that conversion process and compromises made regarding uniform. I sure as hell would like to do something similar and would appreciate Don's insight.
-
Thanx gents....;)
@Cossacks
Yes, as mentioned I used the Fireforge plastic mongols. Pretty much as they come out of the box.
I just used mainly plastic french hussar heads from the perrys....cause they have cool moustaches. To get the distictive hats I scrapped the napoleonic headgear away (leaving just the face) and modelled the new cossak hats with greenstuff. Thats pretty it.
Next I added a few guns and stuff from all over the plastic mountain: british WW2 Enfield, french muskets, french heavy cav sabre, a german Blitzkrieg handgrnate arm, 30years war cav arm, russian pistol...;)
The heads have little variation. I used one plastic hussar with fell cap and one irokese head from the WW2 american airborne.
In a later stage I added shoulderstraps but couldn't force myself to model the cool munition pockets on the chest, as father primus did.
@tachanka
Would love to see your take on it....:)
Cheers,
Don
-
Todays update is my biplane....:)
Still a little WIP, but I have some more troops to paint. So I will put on the side for now.
(http://i.imgur.com/3Rs6Ayfl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/3Rs6Ayf)
Not sure if I should add a tricolour on the wings or some "heraldy". And I am not sure if it will be flying for the reds or the whites...;)
And here it is flying around in my kitchen....:)
(http://i.imgur.com/w29fWizl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/w29fWiz)
Cheers,
Don

Feel free to draw on the aircraft the badges of the imperial army - even the red ones flew for a long time with old identifying marks.
Here you can find the real color options such aircraft in the Red Army (and not only):

Thanx, Cuprum....;)
I will consider this...:)
Her is the tachanka with a little paint on it.

Kind of tempted to build one more. But the time for the big game is ticking...just 8 days left..... o_o
Cheers,
Don
-
Ha...my first double post in this thread....:)
To get some ...erm...paint in my white russian troops I painted a unit of Kornilov shock troops.
Again Coppletsone minis....;)
(http://i.imgur.com/RVIliDbl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/RVIliDb)
I am not a keen black painter.
But I tried a least to get the arm symbols on....kind off.... lol o_o :o

Cheers,
Don

Lovely stuff. I agree the plane could benefit with a splash of colour and/or just the skull and crossbone on the rudder.
-
Only because I took too long to find RCW SPAD examples!
-
Don,
Your painting and painting speed is really impressive o_o o_o I wish that I could move as fast and do as well. I really like your plane.

Only because I took too long to find RCW SPAD examples!
You just had to ask a question)))
-
Thanx gentlemen....;)
After painting some mainly black figures for the whites I did some sailors yesterday to bolster the red forces.
(http://i.imgur.com/TCfMrbUl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/TCfMrbU)
...have some more on the painting table.....:)
Okay...so I have exactly 7 days left till the big game.
Cheers,
Don
-
I can't help but envy your painting speed. Figures are splendid too! :-*
-
So here are more red Sailors and some of the first minis for the Siberian Rifles.

Okay, today I started to srcatch built a "kind of Putilow armoured car".....;)
Still lot of work to do...but you get the idea.
Started with some plastic card and a few renedra bases...
(http://i.imgur.com/3x9XAqhl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/3x9XAqh)
Then I glued some of the basic stuff together.
(http://i.imgur.com/86ht5oIl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/86ht5oI)
Build I turret from a card roll and some more bases.
(http://i.imgur.com/hcRiZwWl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/hcRiZwW)
Tried my hand on a rotaing turret and starting with the rivets...;)
Probably a littel to big...but I like the comic aproach here....:)
(http://i.imgur.com/86uTQ6Ul.jpg) (https://imgur.com/86uTQ6U)
(http://i.imgur.com/mIQIiNCl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/mIQIiNC)
Oh dear...so much more of the rivets to glue....:)

Cheers,
Don
I'll take 2!
Simply brilliant :-* :-*
-
Don, your work on the black clad units is fantastic! I have a unit of Whites to paint as a Kornilov battalion, and have been building up my courage to tackle it as I find getting black uniforms to look right is much harder than it should be. Thanks for the inspirational photo, although there is no way I will be able to match your pace and churn them out in a day :o
-
Thanx gents for your kind remarks....;)
@Sir Rodney
Hope to see your Kornilov soon....:)
Couldn't find much sleeplast night and painted more on the cossacks.
A few highlights are missing here and there, but for the gaming table they are some how finished....:)

And with a rural church.

(http://i.imgur.com/fY2ALCGl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/fY2ALCG)
Will be hard to get them finished and painted till sunday...too much other stuff to do.
Cheers,
Don

Very nice work!
Love the pace of this project.
-
Inspirational stuff, well done fella!

Okay, 2 more days to go till the big game. Time to muster the troops...:)
Can't wait to see them all.
-
How did the game go? Was everything finished on time? Oh the suspense
-
Yes, photos please! A most enjoyable thread to read during management meetings.
-
Okay...with more than a month delay...here are a few more shots from my RCW....;)
In the night before the game, I had to build a couple of mine entrances to get a little bit of pulp-stuff on the board.
Players could enter the mines to get to different locations on the board and to get Victory Points.
When entereing with a troop dice 1 D19:
Random table D10
1 get to entrance 1
2 get to entrance 2
...
7-9 get a russian Icon (Victory points)...I had made cards for these; D6 for Exit point
10 get an Icon, get 2 men reinforcement and choose your exit point
These mine entrances made a lot of chaos and worked really well....;)
(http://i.imgur.com/AvVMcnel.jpg) (https://imgur.com/AvVMcne)
And I mustered a few more WW1 russians painted by the late Mad Doc Morris wich I bought years ago.
Wish I could paint like this....:)
(http://i.imgur.com/d6NNdMXl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/d6NNdMX)
And I finished all the odds and ends from variou troops.
(http://i.imgur.com/9caQbCcl.jpg) (https://imgur.com/9caQbCc)
I was pretty exausted after all the painting when I left for the big game: 6 Players and a crowded table...
(http://i.imgur.com/H8QLLDll.jpg) (https://imgur.com/H8QLLDl)
Promise to post a few more pics the next days...or so....;)
Cheers,
Don
-
I really like the mine entrances :-* and they sound like great plot points in your game. Nice looking table. I am sure that the players appreciated all of your hard work!
Lon
-
Some great new additions buddy :-*
-
Love it Don 8)
-
Awesome looking table - I definitely want more photos. And I'll be appropriating those mines for an Old West game.
-
Wow!! very nice..
-
A-Maze-Ing! Lovely looking game - I reckon your hard work paid off. Would love to have been there. And the mines idea - very wicked.
