Painted up the Sepulchral Guard from Warhammer Underworlds a while ago, thought I'd post them here. Received a Commended Entry at Golden Demon Europe 2018 for which I'm quite proud.

Gorgeous! The cold monochrome is off-set perfectly by that lovely dark rust.
-
Superb! Chilling (and chilly) to look at!
-
Very good and very atmospheric.

Simply stunning

Splendid. I particularly like the rust 8)

Great paint!
Well done.

I second this one, also curious about that disheveled horse!
Well done!
-
Oh wow! This has turned out really well, really liking the high-contrast colour composition you've got going on!
-
Appreciate the comments!

I second this one, also curious about that disheveled horse!
The horseman is a conversion combining the upper body of the Sepulchral Warden and the horse from the Nurgle Harbinger of Decay. Some resculpting of the cape and repositioning of the arm was necessary. The horseman's head is from the Warhammer Skeleton Warriors box.
-
those are some very dynamic skellies. Great poses and painting.
-
Commended entry only? I'd rate this band higher. Love it, strong colours, well painted, nothing wrong with these guys.
-
Very nice indeed. As others have mentioned, the rust is very effective, it does actually look like it's a texture in some of the shots. What's your process, if you don't mind me asking?
-
:o Brilliant!
-
Gorgeous! Paints recipe, pretty please? :)

Thanks, anything higher than commended and they would have received a demon, so I can't say I'm disappointed.

Happy to share!
Bone:
Basecoat with 50-50 mix of Scale75 Rainy Gray and White Sands. Shade with Rainy Gray and then mix black to this. Highlight with Sc75 White Sands and then pure white.
Rust:
Basecoat Mission Models Black, but anything with a eggshell finish should do. Wash with Citadel Typhus Corruption for subtle texture. Wash with Scale75 Brown Leather, let it pool and leave tidemarks, imho it only enhances the effect. Add watered down Scale75 Mars Orange to crevices and other areas were you want to increase the rust. I pre-wet the area and paint it in an almost wet-in-wet fashion. Add white to the orange and repeat. Go back with brown if you want to tone down the effect. "Highlight" edges and rivets with black. I'm not sure how well it shows in the photos, but I think the subtle difference between the eggshell black and the very matte Scale75 paints gives a nice effect.
-
Gasp! That's amazing! Lots of cool ideas and a perfect execution :o
-
Thanks for the reply
-
I join the club of fans of this work. Great idea and extremely well done!
Cheers

I did a version of the leader on foot earlier. The close up of the shield shows off the difference in finish on the semi-gloss black "metal" and the matte rust.

I'm making this a general thread for Evil stuff.
My take on Hess Poison Breath. I added the pestilent cloud from the Plaguecaster in the WH40k Dark Imperium box which I thought was a perfect fit. The paintjob is pretty simple, mainly aiming for effect. I hit it with an airbrush to get the OSL effect and then added some spots of highlights. Most of my efforts went into the cloud.

(https://i.imgur.com/p67aMv5.jpg) (https://www.instagram.com/p/BqYEnxbH93P/)
-
Superb! That's a tremendous minimalist scheme!
-
These are amazing - excellent work!
-
Hess looks business. The minimalistic approach really pays off.
-
Fantastic painting in this thread. Hess Poison Breath's googles - metalics only or you added a wash/shading? Love him.
-
Very nice. The undead are lovely but that last guy is spectacular!
-
The effect on those flames and the goggles is amazing! :o :-*
-
cor - fantastic painting, all.
-
Thanks guys
Fantastic painting in this thread. Hess Poison Breath's googles - metalics only or you added a wash/shading? Love him.
The reflection is just painted on with regular matte paints. The only colours I used on this was black, white and Scale 75 'Toxic Waste Green.'
-
Cool, thanks - he has been nicely executed.
-
I painted up Sli'Ith Iron Lung in a similar fashion to Hess Poison Breath above. I converted him slightly by substituting his hands with one from the Empire Wizards kit and one from the 40k Poxwalkers.
(https://i.imgur.com/NHtFxy8.jpg) (https://www.instagram.com/p/Buy_GUDHa9b/)
-
Again, such a tight palette, but so effective.
-
I've painted up one of the chainrasps from the Warhammer Underworlds Nightvault box. I wanted to keep the paintjob loose and energetic. The idea was to make it seem as if the ghost was flowing with unnatural energy.

Wow, your lighting effects are really striking.
-
Gorgeous stuff. I love when people paint with style over technical perfection - please don't take that as an insult.
One of my favourite commission painters is often derided for being technically poor, but his models are striking in a very artistic/emotional way (i.e. he delivers a thematic punch without meticulous edge-highlighting and hours of wet-blending, etc.).
Really like painted minis like this. I have zero artistic ability to mimic the style or I would.

Thank you! And not the least bit insulted, it's very much a stylistic choice in this case. I assume the painter you're referencing is Lappat? Very much a fan of his work too.

The guy I am thinking of is ThirdEyeNuke. Very polarizing style. He likes limited colour palettes, and a splattery Blanche-esque paint finish on things. It's what I thought of when I clicked on this thread! :D That's not a bad thing. What I like is that I can see your painting prowess in the pieces, but I can also tell you've chosen a particular style, a minimalist one. I dig it.

Awesome😳

This set of figs really captures my imagination. It's so evocative in a realistic way that really captures a dark winter day/evening. The near monochrome is so realistic under a snowy, dark sky yet there's still an unnatural light to it. It's really great. I want to build an entire undead army based on this theme :D Thanks for the inspiration.
Here's a fun comparison that I found (of course, it's fresh snow in the picture below, whereas the above figs look like they're coming out of older compacted snow, thus the bits sticking to cloaks and the uneven surface, still, the lighting comparison is pretty apt!):

That ghost really looks spectacular, as do the rest of the figures.
-
Love those undead!!
-
Thanks for all the comments!
@Neldoreth
That's pretty much the mood I was going for!
I painted up another Chaos sorcerer in the same vein as the two previous ones. This time Shreve the Inquisitor. I substituted the torch with the brazier from the base of the new Abaddon miniature from GW. Fits perfectly I think.

You've got talent, my friend!
It's amazing, watching your paintjobs!
-
An overall amazing thread with brilliant artistic painting!
-
I can feel the heat from the flames- really nice brushwerke!
-
Amazing work. Pure Atmosphere ! I hope i can achieve those kind of effects some day.
-
Absolutely superb. Love your painting style; very evocative :-* :-* :-*
-
Many thanks for all the comments.
I've painted up another set of skeletons, this time a set of dusty bronze age warriors (or Hyborian if you will). Some more angles and closeups on my instagram.

Amazing builds and paintjobs, you are a true master, Nicklas!

Lovely painting on those life challenged types.
I'd love to know your method/recipe for those aged metals.
-

Many thanks!
Lovely painting on those life challenged types.
I'd love to know your method/recipe for those aged metals.
Here's the recipe for the bronze (partially copied from IG)
Base: Citadel Abaddon Black + Vallejo Armour Brown (Air). For very old metals I prefer a non metallic paint but with a bit of sheen. I think this gives the most realistic finish.
Verdigris: Very diluted washes of Scale 75 SS Camo Medium Green+ Citadel Wraithbone. Local washes of Scale 75 Irati Green and Surfer Orc Flesh. Touch up edges with Base colour or by mixing Armour Brown with SS Camo Medium Green. Scalecolour dries very matte which I think helps sell the effect. A sort of speckling effect was achieved with a over-dilited mix of Scale 75 Thar Brown sprayed from a distance. Play around, let it pool and leave tidemarks, dilute until the pigments break. It's all about creating randomness.
-
That bronze is quite awesome! Well done.
-
Thanks Nicklas, it works a great on your skellies.
-
Really nice work on the Skeletons. One of the better GW kits.

Wow! Really impressive with the creativity and technique on those.
-
Superb skeletons! The bronze armour is quietly jaw-dropping.
-
Wonderful work.
-
These models are so well done. Its not only the painting and the texturing, but a lot of thought was put into the preparing and basing. Very good job.
-
I love the dirt and grass tufts stuck to them!
-
Beautiful painting, the skeletons actually look like skeletons, if you know what I mean.

Top notch work. I’ve just been through the whole thread and really like all of the models, you clearly think a lot about the overall look and feel of the model, then execute it very well.

Simply awesome :o

Great mossy basing.

Great job! The mossy base is really well done.

Wow! You're posting some lovely stuff. I'm going to find your Instagram account and follow it.

Fantastic work, on everything you have posted, but my favourites are the skeletons on the first page! Really nice!

Are the bronze age warriors made from the Grave Guard kit?
-
Thanks all.
Are the bronze age warriors made from the Grave Guard kit?
They're made with Tomb Kings Tomb Guard bodies and heads/arms/weapons/shields from the regular Skeleton Warriors. The head with the large spike is from the Grave Guard kit though.

fantastic face on the Beastgrave fig.

Really cool stuff all around. I'd just like to mention that you got that glow-y smokey effect as seen on the left and right sorcerer (purple and green-ish yellow) down. Looks great.
-
:-* Love what you've done with the feet of those skeletons, makes them look like they're walking through a dusty desert

brilliant stuff :o

Normally I go to great lengths to keep the flock off the figures,
but you have got me thinking about deliberately putting it on!

She did NOT look like that on the dating web-site!

The bog skeletons and creepy ghoul are great.
Could you do a tutorial on the skeletons? Thats a look I've wanted to create for ages but not sure where to start without making an arse of it

Thanks!
There was a bit of trial and error on the skeletons before I got the look I wanted so I don't really have a definite recipe. But if I was to try to recreate the look I would use Citadel Wraithbone as a base colour and then shade and highlight by mixing in black and white. Then use washes of various desaturated greens and browns to modulate the colours. I used Scale75 SS camouflage colours and Scale75 Gobi Brown which is a brownish green.
For the earth effect I've used my regular ground cover mix which is a mix of finely ground pine bark, old coffee grounds and various turf hues from Woodland scenics. I used an old brush to apply PVA glue like with a base, I then used a brush and my fingers to wipe of the excess. The moss tufts are late fall moss tufts from miniNatur/Silflor.

Amazing painting and photography.

My latest project. Gulgoch the Butcher. Painted mainly with Scale 75 acrylics. Had some fun using Tamiya clear colours for the various disgusting effects. I'm also experimenting with a more minimalist basing inspired by the flat black bases on the old Rackham miniatures.

Thanks Gunner. Yeah, I've only done two so far. I have plans for more in the future, I have some ideas for the "Vengeful Skullroot" from the Sylvaneth Endless Spell box.

Another wonderful painting, sir ! :-*
I'm really fan of your painting style. I think it fits perfectly the background of the Realms of Chaos books.

Looking great!

Not sure how I missed this thread before, but glad I stumbled across it now - lovely stuff in here!

I'd love to see a tutorial on how you do your skeletons, your verdigris etc. They are really all a step above.

Thanks guys!

I've got more bronze skeletons in the pipeline, might record some of the steps to do some sort of tutorial. I've posted a rust tutorial on my instagram in case you're interested.
I've converted an old Necromunda Wyrd Telepath into an Empire Gold Wizard by using bits from the plastic Wizard kit. The pattern on the cloak is a reference to Gary Chalk's classic Wizard Duel illustration from times of yore.

I'm using Summer moss pads from MiniNatur (Silflor in the US). I've given them a thin coat of a saturated bright green with an airbrush to take away the plastic sheen and make them pop a bit more.

Some awesome techniques and your pieces just ooze atmosphere. Can't wait what ellse you come up with

Thank you. I use my airbrush very occasionally. Mostly for stuff like the dusty legs of the skeletons or to get a general idea on the OSL effects.

Great pictures!

Nice work. Spoooooky!

brilliant.

How do you achieve that, I almost called it "splatter pattern" on the ghosts?

Thanks guys! : )
Long live the Undead! Who would have thunk lime green could work so well on the restless.
How do you achieve that, I almost called it "splatter pattern" on the ghosts?
Cheers! I wrote down the method on my instagram a little while ago, copying the text here:
I primed the miniatures in Citadel Wraithbone, I then basecoated them in a 1:1 mix of P3 Necrotite Green and Scale 75 Toxic Waste Green. I used wet blending to create the transitions from Scale 75 Riff Green and to white respectively. I am not overly concerned with the smoothness of this transition since a lot of it will be covered up by further washes and effects later. The “bubbles” are then done by placing dots of very diluted paint on the surface. As the edges of these dots start to dry I use a clean brush to wick up the remaining paint, leaving a ring. There’s a lot of room for experimenting here. I wash the area with the background colour to blend the bubbles into the surface and then repeat the process, making sure that some bubbles of the new layer overlap the previous ones. That way a sense of depth is created. Stippling is used throughout the process to blend the different areas together. Washes of the base colours are used to either tone down the contrast or help with the transition.
It’s very much an iterative process so it’s hard to describe it in a step by step fashion but I hope the description above is somewhat helpful.

Thanks all.
They're made with Tomb Kings Tomb Guard bodies and heads/arms/weapons/shields from the regular Skeleton Warriors. The head with the large spike is from the Grave Guard kit though.
Wow, really good!
May I ask, how you painted the metals? Sorry, If You already wrote it, I didnt read the whole topic through. The same style would fit perfectley for Oathmark skeletons.
-
Very smart!
-
Dammit, I love your old bronze style. I can't seem to replicate it! I just always get drawn into putting a bit of metallic paint in, which ruins it.

No worries, the current recipe is this:
Base colour is VMA 71.041 mixed with black. I then use thin washes of Scale 75 SS camo medium green mixed with white. I apply this unevenly and let it pool and leave tide marks. If I'm unhappy with the results I tone it down with the SS camo green mixed with black. I finish by adding some variation with washes of Scale 75 Irati Green and Caribbean Blue.

A chieftain to lead my mossy skeletons. This was a collaboration between myself and Matteo from the PINXIT blog (http://hagenpinxit.blogspot.com/). I provided the bitz and the general concept and he brought it to life with his incredible sculpting skills.

"We are Legion"
I took a couple of mood shots very much inspired by Blanche's old skeleton horde artwork. The GW skeleton warrior kit might be a bit uniform in terms of posing but they really look great when ranked up in a group.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
I've been working on this old Perry troll for the past couple of weeks. A very characterful sculpt but somewhat tricky to paint. Some of the areas are sort of "blobby" and poorly defined. I added lot of texture work to work around this.
(https://i.imgur.com/BTlWYBN.jpg) (https://www.instagram.com/p/CKbBKWXHNCw/)

Wow thought the smelliest were amazing and then scrolled down to see that wonderful troll...incredible job on a ideal that brings back many memories
-
Beautiful painting!
-
Beautifully ugly!
-
Outstanding work on that troll.
-
Holy crap, that's gorgeous. Those big patches of troll skin are so hard to tackle, but the texture you've introduced with wrinkles and scales, plus the hints of yellow and red tint on the blue skin ... stunning.
-
Excellent painting on this wonderful mini.
I love his eyes. He seems so sad....

Superb work.
Inspiring and demoralising in equal measure!

The nose on that troll is wonderful - definitely something to aspire to!

fantastic. :-*
such a sad looking fellow; trolling wouldn't appear to be such fun after all.

Awesome!!

My friend Matteo @hagenpinxit (https://www.instagram.com/hagenpinxit) gifted me his wonderful Bretonnian knight, Sir Medarde de Tourralbine, le Coq Noir. At his suggestion I rebased him in my signature style.

Gosh, he looks absolutely sensational! :-*
I think I recognise the lower parts of the model from the new Sisters of Battle plastics, but I have no idea about the rest.
Looking through your thread generally is a real treat though, so thank you for sharing! :)
-
Great looking mini. Your basing is very effective too.
-
Nicklas, your work is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
I especially love the ghosts, and the skeletons with turf on them.
I'm also an huge fan of Matteo's work, and minimalist basing, so you've created the perfect combination there in my opinion.
-
Great figure and basing! I cannot imagine ever quite achieving results like you do in this thread, but it is inspiring!

Beautiful, inspirational stuff. The vision behind the conversions is amazing, capturing something essential - the Bretonnian knight is the most "Bretonniany" thing I've seen.
-
With the Warhammer Skeleton Warriors kit now being out of production (:'() I decided to try out the recently released North Star kit sculpted by Mike Anderson. The bronze age styling on these sculpts is just the sort of look I'm after. I went with my moss and iron scheme and I think they fit in well with their Warhammer cousins, albeit slightly smaller. I have a couple of more on the go and I'll post them later.

still not sold on the helmets for those skellies - but lovely painting.
you even manage to make basing products such as that moss look 10 x better than I've ever achieved with the stuff!

Lovely work. Nice rusted effect on the armour. What colours did you use?
-
Niiice.
-
Very good painting, as always.
Your painting scheme fits really well on these skeleton.
-
Looks great!
-
Lovely work. Nice rusted effect on the armour. What colours did you use?
Thanks. I use Citadel Abaddon Black as a base, its glossy finish is enough to suggest metal. I then give it a bit of texture with Citadel Typhus Corrosion. I then use Scale 75 Brown Leather and Mars Orange, and for the deepest crevices I mix a little P3 Carnal Pink into the orange. Finally I use a regular pencil to highlight the sharpest edges.
Finished up a couple of more troopers. I really enjoyed painting these, nice simple sculpts with clear details.

They certainly look the part - great painting.
I must admit though, I would be more afraid of being bitten by those humungous teeth than stabbed by their weapons.

Thank you for that. More great PJ's

Just found this tread: really amazing work here! Thank you for sharing.

The Cacogen, Chirurgeo-cultist warrior
I made this guy to complement the cyber-vampire lady a few pages back in this thread. He sort of straddles between fantasy and sci-fi. Inspired by the Alchemists faction in the Rackham game as well as the futuro-fantasy worlds of Vampire Hunter D and The Book of the New Sun. The idea is that of a surgery-addicted cult that constantly strive to beautify and modify themselves. Like vampires they prolong their lives by transfusing the blood of their victims.

Couldn't stop staring at that. What a great model with such dynamism and a perfect paintjob on it.
-
Tremendous - and very Urth-y!
-
Reminds me a bit of Karl Ruprect Kroenen from Hellboy, not the exact look, but the general feel. And if Hellboy feel, then I have to love it!
-
Awesome job yet again!
One question: Where is the weapon from? Dark Eldar maybe?
-
Thanks guys (:
The Thaumaturge
Another Chirurgeo-cultist. The head and sickle is from John Blanche's old limited release Femme Militant Cataphractii. The rest of the model is made up of a Delaque skirt, Neferata torso and Drukhari/Dark Eldar Talos arms.

Excellent! Always a pleasure to see your stuff.

More skeletons!
First one is a champion/bodyguard for my chieftain. It was converted by my friend Matteo of the Pinxit blog. The horn blower is from the regular Warhammer kit, I only substituted the head for one from the Skulls kit and reposed the second arm to grab the horn.

Simply stunning…

Yes indeed, that is top work! The corrosion and the soil/grass really give the impression that the skeleton recently climbed out of its burial. Contrasts really well with the pale bones, too.
-
Just gorgeous as always. I don't use rust effect a huge amount, but I've recently bought a bottle of this stuff -
https://www.greatescapegames.co.uk/online-store/weathering/modelmates/rust-effect-weathering-liquid-ex-modelmates
- and it's amazing. You've got to remember to shake that bottle until you hear the ball bearing rattle though, otherwise it doesn't work.

The instructions on that make it sound kind of fragile for regular gaming use rather than "sit in the display case" model kits. You had any problem matte sealer altering the color on you?

No, but then I've only put it on small areas thus far. It's kind of random how it looks when it dries, but that's why I like it, because it's realistic (well it does contain real rust dust). Nick's rust effects are gorgeous, but he uses rust on so many of the models so much, I thought he might like to play with it like I did! They also do a verdigris one.
-
amazing work on the standard bearer :-*

Thanks cubs, I found a retailer here in Sweden carrying the stuff. I'll give it a try on some future project, although I think I'll stick with my current technique for these skeletons for consistency.
Posting a pic of the backside as well. A lot of work went into the stippled texture of the cape so it would be a shame not to show it off.
(https://i.imgur.com/rXAnyIU.jpg) (https://www.instagram.com/p/CU9d10Ktxjw/)
-
Lovely cloth texture effect there, just like a woollen cloak.
Yeah, it makes sense to keep your technique consistent but it is fun stuff to use and you just slosh it on and wait for it to dry! It's like a chemistry experiment, watching the different colours form. I think it's designed mainly for use on larger surfaces, like vehicles and such, but it does work on smaller stuff too.
-
Never seen it done this way. Very educational. Thanks.

-
OUTSTANDING WORK! The Deadites are impressive AND the Goblin is a real charmer in his own whimsical/silly way.
-
Those skellies are wildly good, especially the metal, not to mention those ectoplasmic cloaks on the ghosties.
Colour on that gobbo is up to your usual very high standards.
-
Your best is still when one of your miniatures came alive - odd I know for Undead... animated might be more accurate. Must be all the realism and magic you put into your miniatures. lol

Those cloaks are crazy good. You have an A+ ability to paint. :)

I know it seems churlish to pick on one small detail when so much wonderful work is going on there - I mean, how smooth does the finish have to be, to look that good on extreme close-up? - but it's the eyes selling it to me. Very simple, but at the same time very difficult to get the depth in the 'white' of the eyes, and have a deep enough grey to still show the light spot in contrast. Whenever I try it, the white spot just disappears into the rest and it looks like the pupil/iris has shrunk. That's really annoyingly good.
-
yep, those eyes are amazing and that's at about 100 x the actual figure size on my screen !

Not at all! I probably wouldn't even have painted this miniature if not for the eyes so I'm glad you think so.

That's just f#$king brilliant. Those eyes!
-
Not at all! I probably wouldn't even have painted this miniature if not for the eyes so I'm glad you think so.
I'm stealing it and I'm not even ashamed. Too often I try to make the 'white' of the eye a pale cream colour because it seems more organic. But looking at what you've done there - it's plain old grey, and not too light either. And that's right, because that's how people's eyes really look, especially in contrast with a bright speck of light.

To be fair a lot of us do that because on the tabletop grey may come off as too dark.
Really depends on the size of the eyes you have to work with.

Hi again guys. I painted the classic moon faced Tzeentch champion as a companion piece to the Nurgle champion on page 8 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=113078.105) of this thread. I'm not sure Goodwin intended the object hanging from his belt to be a stem of broccoli but I figured I'd just go with the most common interpretation.

Wow. Looks like a newly released mini now.

I always loved that figure - great to see it so well painted!

Great figure with a great paintjob. I'll never see that as anything other than celery now!
-
That moon-man sorcerer miniature is one of my favorite Citadel pieces ever. Mine is mounted on one of those flying discs.
Excellent paintwork there.
-
I'm stunned at the quality of painting you've achieved on these figures. I'm especially impressed with your corroded/verdigrised metal effects — very inspiring.
-
This thread amazes me beyond belief. Moonface is fantastic! And the praise on that little goblin needs to be seconded.
Brilliant.

Thanks guys.
I had painted up Throbin Death Eye from the Dwarf Lords of Legend box set earlier but never posted him on here. A fun sculpt although some design choices and the way they're executed are a bit iffy.

Another 'action shot', this time Sir Medarde de Tourralbine battling the undead. I added some green reflections to the armour as a homage to Boorman's Excalibur. The knight was converted and painted by Hagenpinxit (https://www.instagram.com/hagenpinxit/).

Simply :o :o :o
Stunning :D
-
Lordy! That's amazing!
-
That’s excellent painting and conversion - I wouldn’t have guessed that it was converted if you hadn’t mentioned it! The contrast between the red and gray really works, too.
-
Gorgeous. Good to see an unashamed grey skin complexion (with pinky shades) - I find the commercial 'flesh' shades way too rich in colour a lot of the time.
-
Wow! That's amazing. Totally blown away with that.
-
Fantastic work; shockingly well done.
-
Well, that's marvelous.
-
Thanks, guys!

Thanks Cubs. Yes agree 100%. I don't think there's a single flesh paint that I would use straight out of the pot. I like to mix in a little olive/camo green to them, the "pure" flesh paint can then be used for warmer areas
-
stunning

I like to mix in a little olive/camo green to them,
I'll have to give that a try.

Getting back into the painting groove with a classic Kev Adams Night Goblin. I decided to stick to the classic early 90s scheme while at the same time keeping the colours more naturalistic. I added a thin layer of gloss varnish to the nose, makes it more fleshy and realistic I think.

Fabulous job on that, he looks amazing! Interesting technique using thinned gloss on the nose, I’ve never heard of that one. It certainly looks good on that guy!
-
Stunning job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
That's excellent. The eyes really bring him to life.
-
Another Kev Adams goblin. I wanted a skin tone that suggested green rather than being quite so literal.

Superb brushwork :-*

It's the funky blue eyeshadow that makes it special. lol
Beautiful brushwork. 8)

Beautiful painting.
-
Awesome work, Nicklas!
-
Beautiful, lovely basing too.

Stunning job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Superb - those eyes! :o
-
Absolutely brilliant work, here. I'm envious of your control over the brush. I've seen stipple-style painting on miniatures before but your technique is on an entirely different level.
I'm also really impressed by how realistically you implement greenery on your bases. It takes a keen awareness of nature to reproduce it so realistically. What brands of static grass are you using for these? It looks very fine but you manage to produce excellent, real-looking tufts.
Thank you for sharing these!
-
more jaw-dropping stuff - have to keep reminding myself how big these figures actually are ...
-
Thanks everyone :)

I'm using a mix of Woodland Scenics Fine Turf to which I've added ground down tree bark and used coffee grounds for the "dirt". The little patches of mossy grass are MiniNatur moss pads, I mostly use the dark green summer ones and the late fall/winter. I give them a touch up with the airbrush to modify the colour a bit and get rid of the plastic sheen.
I've revisited the bronze age skeleton concept with a different recipe. The miniature is a kitbash from various GW kits: Tomb Guard body, Craventhrone Guard head, Skeleton Warriors arms and a trinket from Kragnos for the shield.

The verdigris bronze is superb! :-*
-
Love that verdigris!
-
The verdigris bronze is superb! :-*
Agreed, but the whole figure is brilliant.
-
That's great. The equipment looks perfect, aged but still effective, and deadly.
-
Thanks everyone :)

Brilliant! Thank you much.

Amazing skellie!
-
Everything about that skellie is stunningly good.
-
Thanks all. Here's the second skeleton. I would ideally like to make more of them but the Craventhrone Guard kit only has two helmets with the proper styling.

absolutely bloomin' marvellous :-*
-
Another amazing example!
There's obviously at least some hand-painting of that verdigris, but are you using any premade verdigris, such as GW's in there?

Thanks! No, I only use regular acrylics. You get the interesting effects like the tide marks and specks once you water it down beyond its breaking point.
-
Brilliant, friend!
-
Cor, I do like that. I think it's really ballsy to smash the verdigris like that, unashamedly dull with just the tiniest hint of metal and you make it work so well, along with your limited palette. It's such a beautifully balanced piece of work you always produce.
-

Yes, having done so myself, I have a little experience with using that method as well.
-
Proper art this is. Also educational.
-
Very nice. Love that look going there.
-
These are simply some of the best skeletons I've seen modeled/painted. The posing, the figure, the paintwork, all top notch.
-
Cheers!
A third warrior in the same theme. This one is some sort of officer. The head is from the ghostly knight riding in front of the Coven Throne.

Excellent 8)

Great painting, very neat and inspiring. i love the way the golden bracelets sping out on the dark tones of the skeletons!
-
The aged bronze effects are stunning.
-
Love what you are doing with the skeletons and agree about the armor!
-
Oh my god, awesome! How do you do that effect on the floor? o_o
-
Just brilliant!!!
-
Absolutely awesome!
-
Superb work.
I've tried to get similar results, i'm starting stamp collecting! lol
-
A classic Orc Big 'Un. I spent a little extra time on this model and really tried to push myself a little further.

Beautiful work! Very smooth transitions on the skin areas and pretty amazing details.
-
:-* Wow, your painting is incredible!
-
God, that's so smoothly blended.
-
That orc is outstanding! very well done.
-
A fine example of Orc flesh, his mother would be proud... if he hadn't ATE her!
-
Another little master piece. The basing too, is marvelous.
-
The quality of the work shows.
-
Amazing work!
-
Incredible eyes, really good
-
A goblin by Kev Adams. I drilled out the sleepy half closed eyes and replaced them with small balls of putty. I then repaired the area around them. Painted with Scale 75 and AK 3rd gen paints. the vegetation is a mix of Mininatur and Gamersgrass tufts.

Always an amazing piece of art.
-
I've just looked through this thread.
I don't know what to say. Just...just...ruddy heck!
-
The old Citadel minis never looked better. OUTSTANDING WORK!
-
Outstanding work and love the idea with the eyes.
-
Amazing as always.
You put a touch of gloss varnish on the eyes, or is it just the camera?
-
Amazing as always.

I did not use any gloss varnish on the eyes, the reflection is painted on.
-
Looks so realistic cool :o
-
Wow... The realism of your paintjobs is something else. Those eyes especially are incredibly well painted.
-
Another brilliant piece of painting!
-
I am speechless! And that doesn't happen often. I bow in awe of your skill!
-
I do not watch Strictly but its a 10 from Glen, absolutely amazing :o
Jaw dropping stuff, colour me green with envy
Glen

It’s been said already, but genuinely Jaw-dropping work. :-* :-* :-*
How long have you been painting to reach this standard?

Thank you. I've been in and out of this hobby since I was nine. Maybe twenty years in total, but only really pushing my painting for the past five years or so.

Good to know! Thanks for sharing the results here ;)

Fantastic! :o I love the extra detail you add through your painting….the wrinkles, different skin colours, etc.

I've just noticed, this handsom chap has been to the dentist, he's got braces!
What an awesome detail.

I envy you your eyesight and sense of color.
