I'm making some Chaos terrain so this might help push me along a bit. I've already made one centrepiece tree but I want some smaller ones. Nothing too exciting, but it's something I'll use, which has been the premise of every BSC I've entered.
-
Huzzah!
-
Intriguing 8)
-
All finished.
No, not really. This is one I made earlier just to show the sort of thing I had in mind. It's polystyrene formers with air drying clay and repair plaster with Heather twigs.
-
The tree is looking fantastic, reminds me of the film sleepy hollow
-
Great. You ant really go wrong with a chaos tree.
I like how you tvink. Practicality is put down in the ’mission statement’ of the BSC. :)
-
Am really liking the concept. 8)

Sleepy Hollow, of course.
-
Wow. That one looks great. I cant wait to see your one for the comp.
-
Thanks guys. The one for the BSC will be slightly smaller than that one as I'm struggling to find a box to store it in. I don't want to just copy it either so I was thinking about one with 2 leaders. I picked up some formers today.

I’m glad that cone on the right is a cone and not a sphere lol

That would be the Slaneesh chaos tree youre thinking of.

It'd probably need extra cones for Slaanesh.
-
...probably need a different kind of former.....maybe something out of Ann Summers......minus the batteries! ;)
Great idea mate! If I had managed to do something for the BSC, this is what I would have made too!
-
Only you'd make it much better! lol
-
Great stuff!
-
A bit of work in progress. I've had to stop till the glue dries on the main components as it's sliding around too much. It needs some carving work and some clay work to get the shape right before it's plastered. It's still pretty large despite me only wanting a smallish tree.
-
A good start. Looking forward to seeing the shape it’ll be :)
-
Looks good so far :)
-
Having a look at your picture again mate, that looks, sorta like a body in that tree! :o
What about sculpting bodies into the tree? That’d be creepy/chaos-y type thing! A tree made of bodies!

Unfortunately it doesn't look like that in real life but it's a good idea. I tried something similar in clay last night but it looked pretty rubbish. I think it needs someone of your skills rather than mine.
A bit more work in progress, fleshing out the branch structure, shaping, and carving out the top of the tree, which I'm doing as a rotten or lightning damaged section.
-
Promising start
-
Looking good :)
-
Thanks. It's pretty much done now, just the undercoat to do tomorrow once the gloop has dried.
The undercoated shot will be the last one. I now need to decide on what colour to paint it and on foliage. As much as it's a chaos tree I don't want to paint it colours that would stop me using it in a Sleepy Hollow or Dracula type game.
The top section has been finished in a 'no more nails' type adhesive in an attempt to give it a different texture to the main tree. It may not be noticeable after painting, but I'm intending on having that as a damaged section.
-
I like where this is going.
-
Undercoated so done as far as new photos are concerned.
Still not decided on colour though. Any suggestions?
-
Cool 8)
I like the unintentional (?) fade to black at the top.
Colour wise, how about a sickly yellow/brown?
-
The black on top is totally intentional. I'm using your suggestion of a lightning strike so the top and inside will be fire blackened. I'll try a yellow brown and see what it looks like. It's not the right shape for a silvery white birch.
-
Aha, good idea 8)

It was your idea lol
-
Shit, was it? lol
-
Looking good - I like the choice of sickly yellow/brown. Maybe with a contrast ink wash (red)?
-
The old GW paint snakebite leather may be a nice color too

Funnily enough I was looking at that but don't have enough left. I also thought about Tau Sept Ochre as a base, perhaps with a peat ink wash.

Get a tester pot from B&Q. Only three quid :)

Probably the best bet. I'll have a look and see what's available.
-
This looks great. I can't wait to see it finished in the line up.
-
Unfortunately my photography isn't great as I'm entirely reliant on my phone.
-
I picked up a load of cheap tester pots from B&Q so I'll experiment with those. One is a yellow ochre as suggested.
-
I haven't been idle with this, I've repainted the main tree at least three times trying to get a scheme I'm happy with. Now I need to select a suitable foliage material. No photos though as that would be breaking the rules!
-
Looking forward to seeing it :)
-
I'm kind of hoping for a 'Eureka' moment with the foliage.
-
Have you tried glitter? :D
-

Hehehe been there done that :)

Maybe dried Oregano/basil et cetera?
Looking good!
-
I've now got a paint scheme I'm happy with, so that will probably help determine the foliage colour and texture now it's done. I think I'll pass on the glitter this time.
-
Soft! You're not a child of the Chaos gods!

Soft! You're not a child of the Chaos gods!
The Blood God does not like glitter, for it gets everywhere and he keeps finding bits weeks later.
-
looking good!
-
During painting and flocking I've determined that I'd actually like to use this for non Chaos games. I've de-Chaosed it by going with a more 'normal' look. I'm looking at using it for more general fantasy games, Darkest Africa, scifi, etc. It is now, therefore, the Ancient Tree.
-
And why not :)
You can do other trees later >:D
-
Yeah, I've got plenty of ideas, but mostly I need to reduce the size of the trees as they're bloody huge!
-
So are trees lol
-
So are trees lol
Yeah, but I can't find a box tall enough to put them in!
-
Me too lol

With an hour and a half to go I suddenly remembered about the deadline for this. I should have checked the camera was working, but it's not, so it's a bit phone shot entry that seems to be both overexposed and out of focus on each of the 30 or so shots I've taken. Still, I've got a big piece of terrain out of it, so it's been positive. I'm looking to see what everyone else has done.

Deadlines do sneak up! I turned in three assignments for an online class yesterday- a day late. Sad thing was I had them ready to go, just got sidetracked.
Looking forward to seeing your entry!
-
Cheers! I'm looking forward to seeing all the others too. I'd had the tree finished for a few days too, I just couldn't find the camera and then I forgot about it. lol
-
I will still accept your entry no problem if you send it to me shortly.

Thanks, though I managed to get it sent last night, thankfully!

Really? I have to check...

Really? I have to check...
Ah, yes, you did. Sorry.
-
No worries lol

I like the way your tree came out, it has that look of a really old tree that saw some severe damage in the distant past, and still managed to survive.

That's exactly what I was going for, thanks.
