As soon as I read these rules, I knew they would be perfect for Conan gaming. I had hoped Ghost Archipelago would do the trick, but Rangers hit the mark. Used 16 build pts to buff Conan properly, Belit is another normal style ranger, and they pay for the extra points by having fewer companions. Played like a dream! Suitable tension and attrition losses, and fine heroic finish. Temple by Christopher 'Set' Cotillard, mat by Cigar Box, Belit from Dark Fable, and Conan from Copplestone via North Star's Frostgrave/GA, and title shamelessly stolen from Alex Bates and Forge of Ice. You'll see why next time!

Final duel with the Gorilla King! What does our hero find in the temple? Where has the body of Belit gone? Stay tuned for Part 2!

By Crom! That is good stuff! :)
Thank you for posting!
-
Great looking game, Chris :)
-
Nice report and really cool gaming table;).
Did you use rules from rangers for your enemies or did your make your own stats for them?
-
Crom!
Those rules, I must have.

I used apes as gnolls, giant ape as ogre, and adapted the events table from an episode in the book, tweaked to fit my scenario.
-
Thanks for the info =).
If you have Frostgrave and Ghost Archipelago, you could use the creatures from there. They should have the same stats. You only have to assign them some skills, if they need some.
-
Plenty to choose from! Next episode coming soon!
-
Can we see the stats for Conan and Belît?
-
Yes please, give us your profiles of Conan and Belit. Now that my wife is asking me for cooperative games and she is reading Dark Horse Conan comics, this seems perfect for us.
-
Look great! The rules also sound very interesting, have you played Sellswords & Spellslingers? I'd be interested in how they differ, especially as regards monster actions...
-
I just buffed them until they felt right, and I kept a loose count of points spent. Those of a more competitive nature may check my numbers and find fault, if they were so inclined! ::)
Conan
M7 F +4 S+3 Arm 10 W+4 H 20 7pts spent
Abilities
Dash, Deadly Strike. Evade, Frenzied Attack, Powerful Blow, Shove 6 points spent
Skills
Acrobatics +4. Climb +4, Perception +4, Strength +4, Survival +4, Swim +2, Track +2 3 pts spent
Basically he is a one-man Ranger team!
Belit
M7 F+3 S +1 Arm 10 W+4 H19
Abilities
Dash, Deadly Strike, Distraction, Evade, Hand of Fate
Skills
Acrobatics +2, Leadership +2, Navigation +2, Stealth +2
Companions were a Man-at-Arms, a tracker, a Savage, and a Barbarian.
Adjust according to who you want them to be, and off you go! I think the game is a wonderful toolbox to build just about anything adventure-wise you could want, with a little imagination!

Haven't played them, though there were on the list at one point. Game reports I've read looked pretty good, but not quite what I wanted. Maybe better for a dungeon crawl?
-
Always love Conan stuff - thanks for sharing; looks like a great gaming session!
-
Looks fantastic!
-
Great looking game!
Sorry to be boring but can I ask where the figures are from?
M
Edit - ignore me, just read the into again lol
-
Some stellar pics in here - the first pic of the gorilla looming out of the darkness is absolutely class!
-
Marvellous stuff! I am looking into those rules.
What sets them so apart from rules like Frostgrave or En Garde?
-
Rules are very RPG lite, and have an excellent solo engine. And also,.unlike En Garde, at least in my opinion, they are actually fun to play! :)
-
what a great looking table - 'just right' combination of 2D and 3D terrain. When I see something like this, wish I'd persevered with printed game-mats!
I'll take out my next comment - unnecessary in your thread. ::)
-
Setting isn't Tolkien at all, really. The Shadow is more corruption than conquest, and besides, just change the setting! My "regular" Shadow Deep game is Norse inspired...

Can you buy a h/copy version from the UK, would you or anyone else know?

Of Rangers? I've got one on its way to me!
https://www.rpgnow.com/m/product/257695
Prices are in dollars but seems to be coming from the UK going by the delivery price (Royal Mail)
-
yes, I've ended up doing the same thing, going for the book and pdf bundle (same price as the book atm folks) for the main rules and bloodmoon expansion.
wish the RM service was tracked, but hopefully it'll be ok.
not sure about coming from the UK, as the UPS prices were rather high, but then it does say RM for the cheaper option so ...
-
Love what you’ve done there. Nice to see some Conan on the table!

It seems too much like a slightly modified Frostgrave of Ghost Archipelago to me. Maybe apart from the solo engine but that wouldn't be my buying motivation anyway. I don't think I will get into this.

Seeing as it’s the same designer, its probably going to be similar.
-
It is a really fun game! If you don't like FG or GA, you won't like it most likely, but it continues to tweak and improve those rules.

I agree...played both, and so far Sellswords and Spellslingers is the more fun cooperative/solo experience.
-
Superb game idea and miniatures... will adapt mine, .
Rely inspired a lot
-
Another important question, when is part II coming?=)
-
i got the rules with the same thought it mind but really what i am looking for is non fluff related stuff.
Frankly i find the tolkien/gw fantasy boring for wargaming unless its huge battles(and honestly i want to do huge 15mm conan era battles too but thats a different story)
So i am not thrilled that i have a list of giant D&D monsters, though i too thought of changing the gnolls into something else ect. id also like to see expanded spells and actual stats for regular humans as conan tends to fight those more than monster-men anyway
curious about sell swords too. ill have to check that out. its solo play im interested in
-
Love what you did here. As I mentioned on the Facebook page, I bought Rangers of Shadow Deep specifically to turn into a Conan game. You beat me to it and in a really great way. I think I’m going t follow your stats for Conan as I think I made him too overpowered and your’s give room for advancement through play. Can’t wait for part 2. Keep up the good work!
-
I really need to get it done. Thanks for the encouragement!
-
Came back to reread and soak up, but loads of pics missing?

Corrected! Thank you! Switched the pics from FB to my gallery here, and now all is well.
Part 2 today, barring anything weird...

Part 2 is up! Just on the RoSD group on FB for now, I'll try to transfer over tonight. Hope you take a look and enjoy!

I like this, you are having fun with your hobby and the tables look great.
If people want to play humans, you can replace the monsters with humans and just give the boss villains a greater stat line.
We are having loads of fun with Ghost Archipelago and the later supplements have expanded rules for tribal warriors.
-
I hope you get a chance to transfer the pics over here as I don't have access to Facebook groups.
The one teaser pic here looks good.
-
That one pic looks great and I would love to see the game but I do not use Facebook.
Pity

That looks like rollicking fun! I love the shot of them getting swept down the river.
-
I love it! Very pulpy setup and terrian (both in a good way!).
-
Just noticing this and feel the need to comment. What a great looking game! Very inspirational. LA, just curious - there is a (clay?) Maya head used as decor on your table. Is that available anywhere or just a one-off?

Aquarium decor off Amazon, no idea if it is still available, just searched under Mayan aquarium iirc
-
Many thanks. Didn't find it, but there is some other fun stuff under Maya... lol

Excellent. I play ROSD and this new setting has been a revolation. Beautiful pics too. Very inspirational
