Title: First play of Over Malvern Hill, new ACW rules by Stand to Games
Post by: Mr Steve on January 11, 2019, 10:37:24 AM
As the title suggests this is our first game using the new ACW rules by Stand To Games. As we had recently tried out the revised Brigade Fire & Fury 2nd edition we decided to re-play the same scenario from that set but using  Over Malvern Hills to see if we achieved the same result. There is some explanation of the rules scattered throughout the AAR’s

Links to both games below.

Thanks very much for the AAR!

First off, your observations concerning ACW seem to reflect my own experiences with the period: Few years ago ACW and AWI were the only two periods I could think of which I knew didn't interest me. Then slowly ACW kept sneaking up on me. Three years passed and now ACW is my biggest 28mm collection and in 2018 ACW has been almost all I played (Sharp Practice and Longstreet). I think the only other things I played was a bit of Fantasy and What a Tanker! tryout games. :P

Late last year I also had a game of OMH. I really like the Fatigue system, even if it means units 'popping back up' after a while. Since in my mind fatigue is mostly morale/order/nerves (as this is what keeps an army together I think) it makes sense to me. However, we played early war affairs with the strongest units having 8FP if I remember correctly.

I also really appreciate the listing of where the minis and terrain have been acquired at the bottom of the blogpost.

Thanks for your comments , I have to admit that I will never gain an interest in AWI or FIW despite my enjoyment of 7YW but ACW has been one of my core periods ever since I played on the floor as a kid with unpainted airfix plastics.

In OMH the most common Fatigue Level is probably 8 or 9 depending on the year and theatre , my units were slightly altered in trying to transfer over the Fire and Fury scenario I was using. As I said we will try them again with more standard forces on a more open table soon but next up is another of the F&F scenarios from v2, 1st day Gettysburg as soon as we finish assembling all the houses.
