Title: Maelstrom's Edge: Alien Scum
Post by: Smoke Frog on January 14, 2019, 02:29:40 AM
I really liked the Broken Infantry set from Maelstrom's Edge, so many options! I put a set together over Christmas and just got them painted up.

Some feather-headed gecko aliens:

I used a mix of GW bits (Imperial Guard and Mechanicus) amongst the minis, including a host of Necromunda bases.

Purple-headed goons:

The Blue Alien Group:

Some Beastmen Mutants, using some of my brother's leftover beastmen pieces:

A few leftover aliens and an Imperial deserter:

I plan to make a few more of these guys, and want to get into making some new Necromunda terrain. This small picture backdrop is a good first start.

Samurai Jack is going to need a new paintjob!

Nice work and kit-bashes! That looks like a very versatile set, and great for any space opera setting. Could easily be employed as some Hutt Cartel thugs, Maquis, space pirates and smugglers, muties or underhive scum, and so on and so forth. Gotta grab a box one of these days...

Nice work on them. It is good to see them assembled.

I bought a set at Salute, but have not started on them, they might end up as Freeborn for GOT.

Does anyone actually use them for Maelstrom's Edge?

I've looked at these a few times but never seen any actually painted outside the ME webstore. They are nicer than I expected! Definitely a lot of kitbash potential even if some of the bodies seem slightly stiff. May tempt me to pick some up eventually...

I don't think ME gets a lot of publicity, unless its on FB or something that I don't use, certainly can't say I've seen any reviews or battle reports on LAF...

These look great :)

It prompted me to have a look on Maelstrom's site and there are some great miniatures on there... and they are not too expensive, either. I'll definitely be looking a bit closer now :) .

They are an interesting selection of kits, though I have not got round to more than building some.

Their modelling blog is always worth a read.

The kit was very fun to use and has a lot of conversion opportunities.

I am considering getting the Maelstrom's Edge terrain sprue (https://www.maelstromsedge.com/medge/store.jsp?p=8). They even have a few tutorials (http://www.thecommguild.com/roller/thecommguild/search?q=terrain). Even more potential!  :o
