Title: Star Wars stuff from the Muzfish Bowl
Post by: Muzfish4 on January 14, 2019, 07:13:12 AM
Finally finished my first unit for Legion, a squad of Fleet Troopers:

I tried to get them looking as close as possible to the guys from the Tantive IV in A New Hope.

Hope to finish a couple of 'standard' squads and get these guys onto the Table of Honour soon.

Thanks for the kind words.

With their short firing range the Fleet Troopers do usually have a short and semi-glorious life on the table of honour, but they and their fellow troopers are pretty effective ablative armour for Luke to allow him to get in close and make a mess of most opponents he faces. Last outing he cleaned up a full squad of stormtroopers, Veers and an imperial officer while taking one wound (rolling well for defence on the red die really helps).

Next up will be more troopers, thinking of doing them in a desert type uniform, and then onto wookies - I've always wanted to say that Chewie is my co-pilot  :).

Enjoying the game and have even had some good results with the speeders which the internet seems to have decided are a bit rubbish.

A friend has started an Imperial Assault campaign and that has got me doing a bit of painting on that particular plastic pile. Here's Jyn Odan:

And the rebel troopers who have proven pretty good meat shields for the characters:

Have to get back to Legion soon...

Okay, plenty of stuff that needs painting and not a lot of time to get it done. Naturally I go off on a pointless diversion. While I was in the Rebel Fleet Trooper Zone I also finished up one from the (I think) now discontinued Star Wars Command range:

I bought a few boxes of these guys for the Little Fish to paint but snaffled a few for myself with a (very) vague idea in mind about a skirmish convention game. Anyway, here's a few shots of the Fleet troopers all together:

Now all I need to complete the set are some WotC bendies (in a box somewhere) and West End 25mm dudes (pretty sure there aren't any in the lead pile).

Nice one. Good to see the comparison.

Nice painting.

The range of scales is odd.

[Edit] stupid autocorrect.

yeah nice paint job on that 54mm figure.  Have you got any more painted?  I have started a 54mm thread on little wars if you would care to share some there
cheers!

Thanks for the kind words, all.

As I'm playing both Legion and Imperial Assault these days these items tend to wriggle their way to the front of the painting queue. So much more satisfying playing boardgames with painted miniatures. I go over the bases with 'ard coat as I want the to be able to withstand a bit of rough handling.

I finished the imperial officers (quite simple) and here they are in different colours:

I also finished off a SW Command officer a while ago. Here he is:

I use these miniatures with my kids to do something we all enjoy together, Sort of a transition stage between toy soldiers and 'actual' miniatures. They quite enjoy it as they like Star Wars and this is a bit more interesting than just 'army men'. Here's a five year old's take on the imperial officer:

Finally, a comparison between SW Command and Imperial Assault officers:

I don't have the Legion set with the officer yet but it's on the purchase list for my next tranche of Legion.

-Woodface, I'm not on the LittleWars board but very happy for you to upload these images if you think they'd be of interest.

Off? Not odd. That big one is massive.  But nice paintwork

Nice looking project!

Interesting that the Legion and Imperial Assault minis look like they scale quite well together. I've heard that Legion minis are quite a bit bigger, but in your photo it looks like, at least with the fleet troopers, it's mostly if not entirely down to the taller base of the Legion guys.

I'd been holding off on any Legion purchases because I have a sizable Imperial Assault and WOTC bendy collection, but if they're relatively scale compatible then I should take another look.

Anyways, excited to see more! Any Imperials in the pipe?

I wouldn't say they are scale compatible. Imperial Assault and Legion just don't quite work together. An unkind observer might almost think it something other than an accident of chance.

I have a few more Imperial Assault Imperials about the place somewhere (will hunt for photos over the next day or three) and intend to do a few more in the imminent future.

In Legion I am taking the rebel side at the moment but fully intend to get into the imperials once I have a decent sized rebel force.  Played a cracking game tonight where it came down to the final turn and I was pipped 5 to 6 but it could have so easily gone the other way...

Life has gotten in the way of painting as it so often does. Nevertheless, I have managed to finish another character for our ongoing Imperial Assault campaign.  When I asked the chap running Fenn Signis (known to his comrades in arms as Cyril Figgis) how he'd like his miniature to look he gave me but the one instruction: "no pink'.  Mission accomplished I'd say, though he seems less than enamoured with the Lavender Caviler:

Why so serious, Fenn Signis?

Managed to get a squad of rebel troopers painted. Their trousers are an attempt at the First Gulf War 'chocolate chip' pattern. The rest is a bit of a mix to suggest stretched supply lines and irregular resupply:

This force is slowly coming together.

A bit of thread necromancy but I'd prefer to keep all my Star Wars stuff together.

Anyway, finally finished a couple of E-web Engineers (i.e. Scout troopers with HMGs) for Imperial Assault:

After a spray of Dullcote I put gloss varnish on the bases to withstand handling in the course of play. Seems to work okay so far.

Hopefully there won't be quite such a hiatus between updates next time.
