I have, for now at least, completed my 10mm Early Macedonians. I was prompted by the forthcoming Men of Bronze to finally build a small force of pre-Philippic reform Macedonians - and army I always wanted but never got around to. MoB only uses a small number of units (4-6ish), but in order to have a range of options, I ended up with 10. By adding two commanders, I was able to make up a 250 point army for Hail Caesar as well - perfect for multiplayer games.

For Men of Bronze I am guestimating that I could run a large Macedonian army, or reasonably field two smaller forces. Maybe Eric will be able to comment on that.

Argead (Lowland or Royal) Macedonians with heavy cavalry, hoplites, peltasts and archers.

Highland Macedonians or Epeirotes with hoplites, peltasts, slingers and Illyrian mercenaries/allies.

I've posted quite a few individual posts about the constituent parts - sample pictures and links below.

Awesome!  I imagine for Men of Bronze that breakdown of units would be....

1 Heavy Cavalry
2 Militia Hoplites- (If they are allies)
3 Macedonian Phalanx
1 Slinger
1 Archer
1 Warband Infantry- Illyrians

No need for separate commander models.

Cool stuff!

That is a great looking force.
I have no idea how you can paint such small figures.
 :o

Loving those shields!

Ewww... none of those post-reform pike phalanxes here. 5th century Macedonian infantry are just hillmen with pointy sticks and an animal hide covered pelte.

I am guessing I could the two small forces as shown above. At best estimate they would be in the region of 24 - 28 points each.

Well, in that case!  If they are just ill-tempered dudes with pointy sticks and Pelte then they could either be Light Hoplites (Similar to the ones Iphicrates was famous for using) or Militia Hoplites.

Not peltasts Eric? Or other crappy infantry? This would be considered a tribal force with a unit of hoplite support. It is certainly not a civic hoplites army.

Oh yeah, Peltasts could work as well.  It is up to you.  Peltasts fit in better with the Hill Tribe army lists for sure.  I have to admit, my knowledge of pre-reform Macedonian armies is pretty slim!

Very nicely done.
