Background
On the 12th October 1999, Russian forces crossed the Terek River and began a two-pronged advance on the capital Grozny to the south. Hoping to avoid the significant casualties which plagued the first Chechen War, the Russians advanced slowly and in force, making extensive use of artillery and air power in an attempt to soften Chechen defences.
On the 15th October 1999, Russian forces took control of a strategic ridge within artillery range of the Chechen capital Grozny after mounting an intense tank and artillery barrage against Chechen fighters. In response, President Maskhadov declared a gazavat (holy war) to confront the approaching Russian army. The next day, Russian forces captured the strategic Tersky Heights within sight of Grozny, dislodging 200 entrenched Chechen fighters in the process.

As your armoured fighting patrol advances towards the village of Goragorsky, west of Gronzy, the escorting Mil Mi-24 Helicopter Gunship is fired at by a surface to air missile. Despite taking evasive action, the gunship takes a glancing hit, forcing it to land nearly one kilometer forward of Russian ground forces. [/size]

Russian Mission Objective
Your mission is to rush forward, rescue the air crew (if still alive) and secure the crash site.
Russian Victory Points
• +1VP for each destroyed enemy vehicle with a DV of 6.
• +2VP for each destroyed enemy armoured vehicle with a DV of 7 or 8.
• +1VP for each enemy unit removed
• +4VP for securing the crash site/held at games end (no Chechen fighters within 6").
• +2VP for each air crew member rescued.

Chechen Mission Brief
Your field commander has ordered you to reinforce separatist forces around the village of Goragorsky. The village is of strategic importance and the last Chechen stronghold before the City of Gronzy. One of your team gets a lucky hit with an RPG, forcing a Mil Mi-24 Helicopter Gunship to crash land just on the outskirts of the village.

Chechen Mission Objective

Having totted up the victory points, the Chechens won this engagement, scoring a great propaganda victory by downing the HIND Gunship and then successfully denying the Russians from recovering the machine.

Great write up, the battle was terrific fun and well worth the trip to the wilds of Wales from Swindon.
The Bolt Action modern supplement works really well, massed AK47s are very nasty to be on the receiving end of as my Para squads found out...
Not a good day to be a Russian para, however the chopper crew (well 2 of them at least) owe their lives to the Paras
Great fun game and a great story to play out, could have gone either way right up to the end really, as seems to be the case with most of our games.

Its definitely those 2 shot assault rifles which defines this game from standard Bolt Action WWII games.

I used a combination of miniature companies for my collection, however, the vast majority come from Tiny Terrain Models - The War In Chechnya Range: https://www.tinyterrainmodels.co.uk/
This relatively new company has run 2 successful kickstarters, but most of the models are now available on the website. The sculpts are top notch, with little to no flash, it took me less than an hour to clean up 60+ miniatures. Anatomically the miniatures are spot on and the weapons are not over-sized. There is lots of great details on both the Russian and Chechens, the latter are dressed in a nice variety of military and civilian clothing, which mirrors all the photos from the war.
The Russians also have a good variety of kit, plus a decent range of support weapons, including a AGS-17 grenade launcher and MG teams. You also have the choice between Russian "line" infantry or VDV Recon Troops (paras) to form your platoons.
I can highly recommend these miniatures and vouch for the fact they mix well with the 28mm moderns from Empress Miniatures.

Looking at ranges like Tiny Terrain really makes me regret my decision to go with 20mm for my moderns, sometimes... :P

I can see the appeal of smaller scales, but I think once you commit to a particular scale, it just makes sense to do all your gaming in that one scale.

Absolutely stunning - the smashed floorboards are particularly effective.
I'm sure with some set dressing they can be used for lots of devastated 20C+ settings whether it's Chechnya, WW2 or Thatcher era "The North".
