Title: Gibby does - CMON Song of ice and fire -(update 8/27 More Boltons)

Post by: Bloggard on April 21, 2019, 10:59:40 AM: HappyChappy - don't want to dilute the OP's thread - but the Dark Sword metals appear to be 32mm (poss. even 35mm depending on how you judge these things), assuming they're consistent.
I've only one box of the plastics from the TTG - the cragmanon goobers or some such - and they're as big as the metals and a little bulkier (but basically match well).

Having said that Akula has a thread on his GoT figures, showing cmon plastics little larger than a copplestone so ... 'go figure'.

The horse armour looks odd, and the shield looks daft ...my main gripe with the CMON range is that the sculpts look like they were designed to purely appeal to Warhammer players (and who knows maybe they were and perhaps that is a sensible strategy given the success of the range).

I might just opt for the Darksword version, or get the foot figure and replace the oversized shield.

None of which is meant to take away from the painting, which as I said at the outset is excellent.

I'll probably do those up too similarly once i finish all the other 200 guys i have left to do to get this game on the table properly... thanks for all the compliments, this is my first time doing any sort of movement trays so I've been experimenting with how the terrain on the bases interacts with what I do to the trays, I'll also be using these guys for games of Dragon Rampant and the sort, so I love that the movement trays are optional... Halberdiers up next!

I have got some of the CMON wildlings as they fit in with my own interpretation of Westeros, while some of the Houses don’t...it’s the great thing about wargaming that you get to build things how you want them.

The cast iron shields are a bit to clunky and have that overaccentuated detail which make them look like they been pulled from the grill of a tractor.

The best part of all the 3d printing is that my robot was hard at work making all this great terrain while I was batch painting these lannisters... It's like having a very precise second set of hands in the shop helping me hobby... Now I just need 6 more! (The wife will disagree :( )

I don't watch TV (except a few select series)... so you end up with a lot of time to be productive if you keep the TV off... I'm currently printing what will be the "Citadel of the Grand Maesters"... hopefully it's finished when I wake up so I can grab a quick pic... i'm plugging away on the Stark Outriders too... nearing completion of those.

IT'S MASSIVE... i'm getting my mind ready for that one.... getting lots of smaller prints out of the way first. You'll love it once it gets dialed in.

The foam is easy for me to work on while watching the little ones in the back yard... so there will definitely be more coming as the summer brings lots of outdoor time. I have about an hr in these start to finish (not counting glue and wash drying time)... i used a water based dark walnut stain for the wash... it's great to buy by the gallon... i've been using that on ALL of my terrain pieces, buildings and all... keeps from having to dig in the expensive citadel stuff.

I'm not sure what to make of the figure sculpts themselves for the Umbers though, I'm not sure if the design necessarily fits with in with the other ASoIaF ones in the range! That's on CMON though, You've done an excellent job with them!

Agreed! Of course, the sculpts are absolutely not your fault at all! The painting you've done on them is fantastic! I'm a big fan of how the armour has turned out especially, how did you manage it?

Up next is Boltons Bastard Girls, then some tullys.... then probably some stark archers.... currently I have my rackham cynwall elves on the table, fun for me to bounce around a couple projects... I do that once I have enough painted forces to play the game in question. The pressure is off to have a painted army, so now it's just about bringing all my projects a bit further along.
